Had this on my list from a NYT review a while back but I think it's changed name/ownership since then. Came at 7 PM on a Saturday night and the place was totally empty - maybe they're doing a good takeout/delivery business because otherwise? Anyway, I had a solid meal and service was good. I tried: + Steamed beef momo + Crispy Mala fish filet + Green beans + Tingmo The Sichuan menu items were better than the Tibetan menu items! Fish and green beans were amazing. Beef momos were a little dry but had great flavor. The tingmo is similar to a steam bun in consistency but it's very plain/doughy so maybe get something saucy or soupy to dip it in.

I could have sworn I already wrote a review for Nangma! I've been here several times and the food is always fantastic. Recommended! Service is hit or miss (sometimes slow) but in general, service is always welcoming, friendly and very accommodating to my large groups. Note: 5% discount if paying with Ca$h! Nangma serves both Himalayan/Tibetan and Szechuan cuisine! All delicious. We've tried several different dishes and here are the standouts: - Chongqing Chicken ($17): Excellent dish! Crispy and flavorful; very addictive. - Beef Shapta ($15): One of our fave dishes from Nangma; very flavorful - Mapo Tofu ($15): we asked for this to be extra spicy and it definitely hit the mark. I only wish the tofu weren't in such big chunks. - Beef Shabalak ($13/3pcs): beef patties fried golden crispy; these were so satisfying and tasty! - Steamed Beef Momos ($11/8pcs): they were out of the pork Momos, so we tried the beef Momos. Fantastic! Pillowy soft and juice Momos! - Manchurian Chicken ($13): Good but nothing too special about this dish. There are other tastier dishes to order. - Braised Fish Fillet w.Napa Cabbage ($20): this is a fave dish in any Szechuan restaurant, and Nangma's version was on point! Lots of spicy goodness here! - Spicy Fish Fillet w.Tofu ($20): another great fish dish! - Crispy Mala Fish Fillet ($25): this fish dish has no sauce; the fried fish fillets were perfectly crispy without being oily, and perfectly spicy! - Shredded Potatoes & Green Peppers ($15): surprisingly spicy! Nice surprise! Needless to say, we've been here several times and have tried many dishes. Nangma never disappoints! We look forward to many return visits!

My friend and I had lunch here yesterday. I've wanted to try this place for a while since I've never had Tibetan food before. Inside the restaurant was a huge space with many tables. It use to be a dim sum place. The picture of the Dali Lama was displayed prominently on the wall. We were seated quickly and given menus. Many items looked Chinese since makes sense since they said they also served Szechuan style food. But we wanted to try some Tibetan cuisine. So we ordered the momos (dumplings) both fried and steamed. We also got Tsak Sha La Kor (Beef, potatoes, wood ear, bean thread, herbs in a curry sauce) which came with tingmo(white steamed bread), crispy mala fish with fried chili and peanuts, spicy tripe, and snow pea tips. First the momos were so juicy. Careful when biting because juice will squirt out. The dough was thick and chewy. I liked the fried better since it had a great crunchy texture. The Tsak Sha La Kor Hot came with the tingmo which was great for dipping in the sauce/soup. We were surprised by the bean thread and wood ear but it was very good. The beef was on the bone and parts were a little chewy. The crispy mala fish was crunchy and well seasoned with a little kick. My friend loved the chili chips and peanuts. She was stuffing the tingmo with the chili and peanut. Unconventional but tasty. The tripe was good but at this point the spice from everything was making it hard to eat. Luckily, I had a mango lassi. It really helped. The pea shoots were tender, cooked in a typical fashion but fresh and done well. I am not an expert on Tibetan food so I couldn't tell you if it was good Tibetan food but I really enjoyed it. I definitely want to come back.

Quiet spot with lots of different dishes. I went with the thenthuk and momos (craving momos for the longest). Service was prompt and efficient. Best part is it's close to where my friend works, so now I have a reason to visit more often. Food was filling and inexpensive. Solid spot. I'll return soon.

It was my first time having Tibetan food, and it was quite interesting. I wasn't used to a lot of the spices, so I had trouble adjusting, but my favorite dish was the fried momos. The fried potatoes were also really good and were very spicy, but if you like peppercorn and spice, I would definitely recommend that. The service was also wonderful. The waiter was super attentive, and the food was brought to a relatively quickly. The decor of the restaurant was so cool. I loved the way they decorated the walls and all the other decorations around the restaurant. In terms of food, the noodle dishes weren't my favorite, but it was a good experience.

Came for Saturday lunch and there was plenty of space but more people came in later in the afternoon. The space is cool. There are rooms upstairs. Servers were friendly. The food is where I'm unsure. Grade was pending when I went, which never bothered me before in NYC. The Sichuan Dan Dan noodles and cucumbers were flavorful and delicious. We didn't like the mapo tofu. It seemed to taste sour, and the server let us get the momos instead. He had also offered to remake it if we wanted, which I appreciated. We also got the lamb chops which were fine. They also gave us a tingmo (steamed bun) by mistake and it tasted a bit off. I wasn't blown away by the flavors of anything.

I've been trying places that I haven't been to, and this is what popped up in my head and on Yelp. It looks quite different on the inside as it's very roomy and the outside looks very plain. There are two floors and I'm not sure what is on the second floor. But the main floor has many dine-in tables and chairs. There's even a bar area, too. Regarding the food, we ordered the momos, which had chives and beef inside of it all, which comes in a set of 10. Those are steaming hot, but really good to eat. My friend and I got two different types of noodles, which are Thenthuk and the Bathuk soup with chicken as the protein. You can either get chicken or beef in it or perhaps even veggies, but they're basically the same soup except different noodles. One is hand drawn versus the other, which is Tibetan Noodle. My friend said it has similar ingredients to certain chicken soups. All in all, I would like to go back in the near future to try other dishes.

Nice Tibetan restaurant with a Szechuan menu. The food here was pretty good but there were a few bumps along the way with the service which was corrected. We wanted to order some food from the Szechuan menu but none of the dishes were available unfortunately. Instead we ordered fried momos, bathuk, vegetable shabalak, chicken manchurian, and fried noodles. The food is served family style. The momos and shabalak were very good and flavorful. The bathuk was good but simple in terms of flavor. It's basically a rib and vegetable soup. I wasn't too fond of the Manchurian chicken or the noodles. They had good flavor but a bit too spicy for me. The edamame was also good but a bit spicy. Overall, I liked the appetizer type dishes better than the entrees.

    Ken W.

Excellent food and service. The thenthuk was hearty and had a good bite with the chunks of noodles. The momos were excellent and had a good amount of soup within. The pork ribs were mild but quite flavorful and crispy. Tingmo helped to offset the spice and sauces from the other dishes. Ambience was cozy and welcoming with a nice collection of decorative elements along the walls.

My family happened to come here by chance. Like spin the Yelp wheel to see where it lands kind of chance. First time we all agreed to try something different. We were welcomed upon entry. The place is huge. The waiters got us beverages right away and helped with food options. It helps that they have pictures of the foods on the menu. It's more of a family size orders. We ordered lo mein ( vegetarian) , double pork , veggie rice, scallion pancake and 3 orders of rice. My son loved the rice. The taste of each platter was definitely good. Honestly, no complaints but we agreed it wasn't our favorite option. Service : A+ Cleanliness : A Food : B Location : B Portions : A

Enjoyable Tibetan food with nice service in a quiet and decorative ambiance. The restaurant was also spacious, so it's good for groups! We tried both Tibetan and Sichuan food here. The Tibetan dishes included Thenthuk, sour & spicy sliced beef with enoki mushrooms), beef momos, and tingmo (twisted flour bun). The only Sichuan dish we tried was the classic braised spicy fish fillet with Napa cabbage. I thought the Tibetan dishes were all delicious and comforting, but the Sichuan dish was not as good as other Sichuanese restaurants. I enjoyed dipping the tingmo into the sour & spicy beef dish, and the momos had a nice amount of soup in them! The servers were helpful with explaining the dishes on the menu, too. Looking forward to trying the other items on the menu!

I want to give more than five stars if I can!! I've never had Tibetan food before, so this was a nice little surprise. The restaurant had really high ceilings, wait staff were very attractive, and service felt attentive. We had the shapaley, beef and tripe in chili oil, beef with peppers potatoes, Ping sha ri ri (a glass noodle dish), momo, stir fry cabbage, tingmo (bread), fried fish, cau. The shalaley, the fried fish, the ping sha riri were stand out dishes for me. They were so flavorful!!! I also ordered a black tea and it came with a date, which was so unique and good. The bread was also very unique and soft! Everything else was good as well. This is one of the better experiences I've had in NYC, so highly highly recommend!

    Beef shapta. $15. Excellent stir-fry.

Short review: Recommend the beef shapta and chongqing chicken the most. Momos are passable (especially fried.) This is a new quite large restaurant which is an interesting mix of Tibetan food and Szechuan food. They have some large tables and booths and they are definitely big enough to hold a big party. With one of my usual groups, we ordered a mix of dishes from both regions with some of the dishes being definite highlights. The food overall was good though less spicy than I usually would like for the Szechuan stuff but I partially presume this is at least partially because Tibetan food and Himalayan food in general tends to be a lot less spicy than Indian or Pakistani food. We got momos both steamed (with chicken for $12) and fried (with pork for $14) and I would say that the fried ones were definitely better. Sure you pay an extra two bucks for the fried versions but those had both a better texture and were better flavored. Quite nice though there are definitely better momos in many of the Tibetan restaurants pretty close by in Jackson Heights. One of our other earlier dishes was curry chicken which was $15 which was one of the weaker dishes being very bony but the flavors were pretty nice with a hint of sweetness. We got some rice ($2) and some tingmo ($3) with most of the other dishes below. For those unaware, tingmo is a steamed bread and their version here is good. Unsure if they make it themselves or they buy it but it's good. After the momos, we got two larger dishes which turned out to be our favorites. The Chongqing Chicken ($17) happened to be excellent. The peppers in it were well prepared in the wok making them nicely light and crunchy and there wasn't too much breading for the chicken. The other best dish by a mile was the beef shapta (15$) which is essentially the Tibetan version of a stir-fry. It primarily consisted of pieces of stir fried beef topped with plenty of very well made onions and some bell peppers. Very well spiced and well flavored, this was the highlight of the night. There was also braised fish filet with napa cabbage ($20) which was pretty good. A bit less sour and spicy then other spots but the fish was plump and there was a whole lot of it for the price. The spicy ping vegetable soup ($15) was a bit disappointing. The menu lists that it was spicy and one of the people there had ordered it and different day and said that the spices were a lot weaker this time. This lead to a rather bland broth but there was a nice and mixed vegetables and plenty of noodles on the bottom (I believe they were glass noodles specifically.) The food overall was pretty tasty and pretty reasonably priced. They also have beer, wine, and soju in case you want something to drink as well as a few other things. Good new spot. Low 4.

Big plus: they're open late until 11 pm, which is always appreciated. They have a solid list of over-rice combos, all reasonably priced around $11-$12, with generous portions. I ordered the beef with bitter melon over rice, and this alone guarantees I'll be back. It's the first time I've seen this combo offered anywhere, and it was surprisingly delicious, even with the natural bitterness of the bitter melon. My husband ordered the beef with bamboo shoots over rice, and that was tasty as well. Everything came out flavorful and satisfying. Service was another highlight -- the wait staff was quick to refill our hot tea, and the place was clean and well-kept, even though we came close to closing time. Also glad to see that they accept cards though there is a $20 minimum. We also ordered the stinky tofu. While I wasn't used to the sauce they used (it had soy sauce and capers, which was a bit different from what I'm accustomed to), it didn't take away from how yummy the tofu itself was. Overall, this was a great late-night find, and I'll definitely be coming back to try more items on their menu. Glad we finally stopped in!

Some standouts were the twice cooked pork, the dry fried long beans, and the fish soup. The twice cooked pork had very thinly sliced pork and it was rich and well seasoned with chili bean paste. The long beans were wrinkly and deep fried with savory ground pork mixed in. The fish sound had abundant tender pieces of fish and a creamy mild broth. I convinced my dining companions to try the braised kidney flowers, as 火爆腰花 is one of my favorite sichuan dishes and I was interested to try this braised version. While most of my friends were not particularly into the kidney, I really enjoyed this dish. The hatched kidneys were floating in a rich broth with peppers and bundles of glass noodles. The noodles were unexpected, but a very welcome addition as they allowed me to consume more of the delicious braising liquid. The kidneys were tender and bouncy, exactly I as expected them to be. I didn't place the order so I'm not sure if you can select the spiciness level of your food when ordering, but I didn't find any of this food to be particularly spicy and I found the tingly mala notes to be muted. While everything was very delicious, aside from the sweet and sour pork which I found to be inedibly sweet, I think this is a more tame and toned down expression of bold Sichuan flavors. The service was extremely friendly and I would return again for another group dinner, as they have enough options here to satisfy a wide variety of diners with different palettes. Hopefully next time I can sell my companions on the 夫妻肺片,as I've heard they make a great iteration of the dish here at Mountain House and I would love to try it.

I've dined here with my family twice and in the most recent occasion, we came with no reservations around 2:30pm on a Sunday. All the tables were taken as they just opened at noon so we had to wait a bit. Their menu / iPad ordering system was simple to navigate and quick to place. Our table was started off with their spicy pickled cabbage, which was super addicting. I love how the spicy oil was so flavorful and the cabbage was soft and just slightly tangy. We ordered 5 dishes for our party of 5: the la-zi chicken, stir fried cabbage, grilled beef ribs, beef and mushroom bibimbap and mao xue wang. My favorites were the la-zi chicken as the diced chicken was super crispy and flavorful. The spice level and numbingness was just the right amount. Next comes the beef and mushroom bibimbap, which is mixed and served at the table. The flavors were more soy based and was very balanced. The stir fried cabbage was cooked well but the pork in the dish was extremely salty. The grilled beef ribs came with steamed baos, similar to peking duck. I enjoyed the experience and presentation but the dish was a bit boring. Toppings included a spicy hot sauce, cucumbers and scallions along with the sliced beef that was individually torched at the table. Lastly the mao xue wang is a traditional stew featuring offals and blood curds. This one had duck blood, tripe, and intestines. I was extremely disappointed by this dish as I was expecting some tofu and small pork intestines but it didn't have either. The tripe and intestines were very crunchy, wherwas the duck blood was silky and soft. The flavor was very basic mala stew and had a ton of red chili peppers. Overall I had a decent meal at Mountain house but can't help but wonder if I ordered the right things since not everything was as good as I hoped. I will mostly likely return to give their other menu items a try.

They were both slightly toned down iterations when compared to the times I've eaten these dishes at other Sichuan restaurants in flushing, but still well seasoned and well cooked. The service was very warm and friendly, and many other customers seemed to be returning regulars.

Warning to all with a pineapple allergy like me: do not eat the duck sauce. If you like spicy ask for hot mustard instead. Orange chicken was crispy and flavorful. I did not find it spicy, but my spice tolerance is very high. My fiance had the chicken with broccoli and it looked amazing. Try the cold noodles. They are chewy and delicious. For me the fried dumplings were good, but not great. Worth a try but nothing to rave over.

The iced Americano was solid too if you need a good option for your coffee fix. I also tried the momo dumplings & they were decent overall. It was slightly on the mushy side, but still tasted great. The space itself is pretty big with plenty of seating. There aren't many outlets though, so I'd recommend charging your laptop beforehand if you're planning to get some work done. The drinks also took a little while to come out, so service tends to be on the slower side. If you have some time & in the area, I definitely recommend checking this place out!

I decided to just sit for a few minutes and soak it all in before starting my work. I love the mini Tibetan merchandise corner, the lived-in feeling that the "prayer flag" wall gives, and I'll leave the rest for you to discover on your own. Shockingly I wasn't a big fan of the salted butter latte, which I thought would be right up my alley. The espresso was actually great, but it was a little TOO salty and buttery. I feel like that one is partially on me... This coffee shop has my highest recommendations! The owner and our barista were both wonderful to talk to and I look forward to seeing them again!
