Update (May 2026) -- 4 stars I went back to Saranrom Thai today and I'm glad I did. The food was just as good as I remembered -- if anything, it tasted even better. They've also updated the ambience, making it feel cozier. I spoke with Jacob, the assistant manager, about my previous experience and the complimentary meal that was promised regarding the cockroach incident. He said he needed to verify it with the manager or business owner, and after 10-15 minutes came back to let me know the owner approved 50% off the whole meal. While I appreciated the gesture, I did feel it fell a little short of what was originally promised as a full complimentary meal. What stood out most this visit was Jacob himself. He told me he vividly remembered my party from that night because he was the one who seated us -- and he sincerely apologized for what happened. That acknowledgment genuinely meant a lot. They also gifted me a free mug, which was a sweet touch. The food and atmosphere continue to impress, and the staff clearly cares. I just hope the follow-through on promises matches the warmth of the service going forward.
Popular Thai restaurant in Elmhurst with a Michelin bib. It can very busy on the weekend so be sure to get reservations or place orders in advanced. When I went, there was a 2 hour waitlist! The food here is reasonably priced, fresh, and delicious. They have a good variety of dishes aside from the usual Thai ones. We got sone sauteed catfish (Pad Ped Pla Duk) which comes with rice. It has bones, so be careful. The crispy catfish salad (Yum Pla Duk Fu Salad) was new and unique for me. It was very good and not fishy at all! The pad thai was also delicious and was enough for two meals. There are dried shrimp, tofu curds, and whole instead odlf crushed peanuts in it.
A fellow foodie Sally W. suggested we try this local Thai place in Elmhurst, not knowing it is rated a Michelin Bib-Gourmand. I was so excited to try! Pushing through the crowds waiting for a table at the door, we secured a spot just beyond the doorway. Inside, it was very cozy and tight as far as seating. The restaurant dining room is really meant for single diners or pairs of people, as the room is not wide. Any group 4+ will be difficult unless you have a reservation and they planned for it. The menu has a lot of seafood, pork and classic Thai curry dishes. Those all caught my eye. It was hard to decide. The waiter was super friendly and all smiles. We asked for his recommendations between the dishes we were thinking of and his choices were spot on. If you are a fan of spicy/dishes with heat, there are plenty on this menu. I wanted to order a few but I was afraid to given the spice level couldn't really be adjusted on some. Started with the curry puff appetizer. It was really tasty, potatoes and onion as well as the curry powder flavor really came through on this. Delicious. For entrees, we tried the: - clams with basil sauce - packed with a mild chili paste heat in the sauce but stir fried to perfect consistency. Of the whole plate, a few clams didn't open so I tossed those. - duck panang - nicely roasted with crispy textured skin, paired with basil in a coconut milk and curry paste. Very delicious. - stewed pork leg, could've been more tender so it was a tad on the tough side. The soy sauce soup and boiled egg was good though. Drinks were very good, Thai Iced tea was not overly sweet. We opted to pass on dessert as the table we sat at was really meant for two but it was three of us. I felt a little too crammed in. I think I would've enjoyed the meal better if I had a more relaxed/leisure dining pace but they were really busy and too tight on space. I can see why it's a hidden gem and noted as a Bib-Gourmand. Prices are very fair and the food was really good. Very authentic.
Yum! Yum! Yum! All 3 dishes ordered were Yummylicious in its own way! The shredded catfish salad was amazing! 1st time ever eating catfish this way The crispy pork with basil and a side of rice was so comforting and nostalgic. The 3rd dish was unique and all the ingredients complimented each so well. All 3 dishes were made of fresh ingredients and medium spicy. Every dish was made with love and delivered with care. Saranrom Thai definitely deserves two thumbs up and my Yummylicious Stamp of Approval!
This is the best Thai restaurant I've had in America! We went on Sunday around 230pm and waited about 20 minutes but right after us the line grew pretty long and was a 1 hour wait. The place is quite small. I've been chasing the raw shrimp ceviche flavors ever since I had it at a night market in Thailand and finally found a close 2nd here! It was a perfect balance of tangy and salty. They gave us a decent amount of shrimps. The tom yum soup had a kick (to the back of your throat to it even though we asked for mild. It was tasty. The basil minced pork was also delicious with the Thai omelette completing it really well! My partner got the intestine herbal soup and it was pretty good! I wasn't in the mood for it. I had some bites of it and it wasn't smelly at all. Thai iced tea was also good and as expected. A bit too sweet for me, I wouldn't order it again.
while there was a long wait, gentleman at door had great communication with customers, even serving drink while waiting. I had panang curry with shrimp which was delicious. red snapper with mango salad was crispy however slightly a dry but flavorful . for appetizers, moo ping was delicious! a must have if you like pork. steamed thai dumplings were delicious.
A good authentic Thai restaurant. If you want to try authentic thai food, this is the place to go. The seasoning and flavors are not modified for a western palate. The chive pancakes are more like dim sum style with fried glutinous rice. Overall the food was tasty but may not be for everybody. Its a small restaurant so definitely make reservations. It can be very loud inside when crowded. Service was good.
Finally made it to what is often referred to as one of the best Thai restaurants in NYC. Excitement was real. First of , place is fairly small so even on a Tuesday lunchtime it was full. I didn't have to wait long though. Menu is fairly exhaustive with many familiar dishes and the crowd was a good mix of tourists as well as Thais . While noodles and curries are easy go to's, and many had them on the table, I opted for less pedestrian options. First crispy pork belly with basil. The pork was very crispy and glazed with a sweet sauce with basil. Mixed with jasmine rice and a runny egg this was quite tasty. Next came the beef salad with toasted rice powder. I honestly didn't love this version as much because the beef had a slight mushy texture and the veggies and herbs were not as crisp. Suspect this has been made ahead and acid has affected texture. It was also skewing towards too sour. Lastly , scallion pancakes Kanom kui chai came out . These were very crispy on the outside and slightly gooey on the inside. Texture of scallion was a bit too creamy for my liking but the flavor was good especially with the sweet Thai dipping sauce. Overall good experience but I wasn't blown away . I guess rustic is a good way to describe it . With so many great Thai spots in Manhattan I wouldn't go out of my way to Saranrom. Perhaps I needed to try more?
Cute little restaurant. Definitely recommend making reservations. The place gets filled up fast. Staff was friendly. Food was pretty pricey but decent portion size. The two lattes we ordered were really sweet. The pad see ew was good and we liked the whole fish. The tom yum soup was spicy bit we've definitely had better else were. The chive cake was definitely different. We never had it before were it looked like a steam bun but it was good.
I love this place! My daughter graduated at citi field and we needed to have a quick lunch. I called and asked if we can make a same day reservation for a party of 9 within 20 min and they said yes we can do that for you!! We waited about 5 minutes, It was also 92 degrees outside and we were very comfortable inside, temperature was just right. The food was sooooo good! And the drinks were so cute and unique. We live in BK but I would definitely return. This was very tasty Thai food. The Staff was very nice and the restaurant was clean. We were so pleased.
I celebrated my birthday at Saranrom Thai, and they made me feel so special! The staff were incredibly kind and welcoming, which made the experience even more memorable. The food was excellent as always. The Pad Thai and Basil Duck are consistently delicious and never disappoint. I always bring friends here when they're visiting New York, whether it's for a special occasion or just a quick lunch break. It's one of my go-to spots because the food, service, and atmosphere are always on point. A little tip: if you're coming with a group or planning to dine in, call ahead and reserve a table. The place is almost always packed--and honestly, for good reason! Thank you for making my birthday celebration so wonderful. Highly recommended!
Saranrom gets five stars from me for a perfect blend of high quality food, delicious flavors, and fantastic service. Also of note is the warm and welcoming vibe of the decor, and the background music, which tonight was old school funk at a perfect volume. We started off with fried tofu (boring, but super light and fluffy), marinated pork skewers (Moo Ping), and perfect Thai fried spring rolls. Food hits the table as it's ready, so all of a sudden you're eating! I have no issue with getting my food served hot, so I'm all for it. Tonight's entrees were Shrimp Potted with Glass Noodles and Stewed Pork Leg. The noodle dish was glorious, served in a pot that made the presentation as nice as the contents. The stewed pork leg was super tender, served with pickled greens in a rich broth. Rice accompanied, as did, in my case, bottles of Singha. We couldn't figure out how to leave space for desert this time, but the Mango Sticky Rice was calling hard. Next time for sure.

If you're craving authentic Thai flavors in Queens, @saranrom_nyc is definitely worth the trip From the warm hospitality to the incredible variety of dishes, everything here was packed with bold and balanced flavors without breaking the bank. One of the standout dishes was the Yum Pla Duk Fu Salad -- a Michelin Guide recommended favorite made with crispy fried shredded catfish, crunchy breadcrumbs, and a refreshing spicy mango salad. The combination of textures and flavors was unreal Another must-try is the Miang Kha Na, also Michelin Guide recommended. It comes with savory dried pork, lime, chili, and fresh Chinese broccoli leaves for wrapping. Every bite was fresh, tangy, spicy, and so satisfying. And don't skip dessert the taro balls were soft, comforting, and the perfect sweet ending to the meal. read more

Waited an hour on Friday afternoon for walk-in. I was excited to try the top Thai spots in NYC and on top of that a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant. Price-wise was excellent with most dishes around the $10-30 range. Portions were large and meant to be shared. As for the food itself, I honestly expected better. If it was ranking in the same leagues as Fish Cheeks, Pranakhon, and Bangkok Supper Club on Beli, I thought the taste would be phenomenal but it truly just tasted like any decent thai spot I could find in SoCal. The only difference is that in SoCal there would be little to no wait. I must clarify that my qualms is not with the restaurant but with NYC having an issue of overinflating certain places and establishing high expectations of otherwise normal restaurants just doing its thing. The pad see ew was my favorite, and I liked how wide and long the noodles were. Otherwise, their Michelin Yum Duk Pla Fu was just another mango salad to me, and I had wished that the catfish tasted more like fish than breadcrumbing. The green curry was decent, nothing special. Good price for what you get though. If the wait wasn't unnecessarily long, I would consider this a nice spot for cheap, yummy Thai. read more

Great Thai food in Elmhurst. So many food choices that I don't see in other Thai restaurants. Service is very friendly and the waiter recommends many good dishes to us. Good vibes cozy restaurant. Make sure you make reservation before you go. read more

I just celebrated my Birthday at Saranrom Thai and this was my first time here but definitely not my last. First thing I loved was the staff and how friendly and attentive and helpful they are. It is some of the best if not the best Thai food I've had in NYC. The Crab Fried Rice is so fresh and well seasoned but the crabmeat is the star. The Duck curry with pineapple had the most divine sauce. The Whole Ted Snapper with Mango Salad was so crispy and tangy and full of flavor. I also tried Lao beer for the first and it's good. Well it was my Birthday so I had the Mango Sticky Rice with some of the freshest mango I've had in years. I definitely recommend coming here and best to make reservations! read more
It's amazing how busy this place always is! I was luckily able to grab a table with minimum wait New Year's Eve and I can definitely see why it is always crowded. Starting off, we had the Thai Spring Rolls, they weren't anything special but definitely good crispy spring rolls with a nice and tangy sauce. Then we got the crabmeat fried rice. I thought this was a little lacking in flavor but it was loaded with crabmeat and my friend really enjoyed it. After, we got the Chicken green curry which I really enjoyed, it was had the perfect amount of heat to it but I generally like things to be a little bit spicy. Finally, we finished off with the beef drunken noodles which were my favorite of the meal. It was nice and saucy and the flat noodles had a nice chew to it. The decor of this small restaurant is very cute and the servers were very attentive even though they are quite busy. I will definitely be back to try more items on the menu in the future. read more
I came on a weekday afternoon with a friend with no prior reservations. Since this is a Bib Gourmand rated spot, it is almost always packed. Although we did have to wait some time, we were able to snag some seats as walk-ins. Unfortunately for us, it was the day before a holiday, so they didn't offer lunch special. In turn, it opted for choices that I couldn't get on the lunch special menu. My friend and I decided to share the appetizer MIANG KHA NA. It is one of the famed appetizers, so we decided to give it a try. It comes with green vegetables - meant for you to wrap it all up and eat it that way. As soon as you take a bite, the lime flavor hits you right away. The appetizer is a blend of citrus tastes meets crunchy texture. The green vegetable really comes in to balance out the overall tangy-ness. It can be sour, but it's quite addictive. For some, it can be a bit spicy for some, but it's quite mild (in my opinion). I personally chose to get KEE MAO THAI as my entree. It stated that it's original thai style and I've never seen this dish anywhere else to my knowledge, so I was intrigued. On first impression, it's not too different from other thai noodle dishes. I personally like the texture of the wide noodles. This dish is savory because it uses oyster sauce as it's base. Most of the veggie toppings inside are of crunchy texture - cut up peppers, cucumbersm string beans & baby corn. Overall, I really enjoyed this restaurant. I was satisfied with my meal. The service is great - they rounded frequently to top up our waters. They offer dishes that I haven't seen elsewhere, so it's unique in that way. I would recommend this spot. read more

Saranrom Thai is everything we look for in a Thai restaurant. It has superb taste with creative variations on traditional Thai dishes as well as drinks. It is also a major attraction. You will usually have to wait for seats to become available. My party decided we could not wait two hours to enjoy the marvels of this cuisine. They also have a problem with chockroaches and rodents. This problem is part of NYC life. The city should tighten up their monitoring of restaurants to minimize this plague. I grew up in the city. I don't like their presence. But I hope the establishments and the city do more to minimize these customers. read more
Saranrom Thai was fantastic, the mango salad was fresh, tangy, and had just the right kick. The Tom Yum soup and Pad See Ew were full of deep, authentic flavor, and the Thai iced tea was the perfect sweet finish. Portions were great and everything tasted fresh. I'll definitely be back. read more
Came on a Thursday night and there was around a 20min wait, so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation! I haven't tried their Michelin-recognized dishes yet, but you can taste the quality in any dish you get here. I always go for the Drunken Noodles - I prefer it with chicken over the crispy pork since it's a bit meatier and more satisfying. The Thai iced tea comes out within seconds of ordering and has just the right sweetness to pair perfectly with your meal. Saranrom is my go-to spot whenever I'm in Elmhurst. Do recommend! read more
Place is cozy but small. We were here to celebrate multiple birthdays in our family of 12 people, of which 2 were kids. I was excited to try this restaurant since my Thai family insisted they were known for good, authentic even unique foods. I'll post pictures of what we had but the most memorable were: Som Tum Pla-Ra (medium spicy is sufficiently spicy for hwat lovers) papaya salad with fermented fish paste and lots of fresh veggies and plenty of lime. Mango salad with fried catfish was amazing! My son ate all the crispy fish but it was bright, spicy and crunchy. Mussel Pancake: I've had these other places and they were so greasy but here it tasted so clean, not oily just wish they gave a lot more bean sprouts. I can see why this place is in the Michelin Guide. This spot is very small but intimate so plan to wait to grab a table but the servers were so attentive constantly filling our glasses and checking on us. Definitely would recommend! read more
Have been wanting to try this place forever! I was able to call the day before for a reservation! I would recommend because this place gets busy. We ended up ordering all three of the bib gourmand recommendations. - yum pla duk fu salad: this was my favorite, you almost couldn't tell there was catfish in this because it just tasted like super crispy breadcrumbs. The mango was excellent and the salad was a perfect balance of spicy, sour, sweet, and umami. This appetizer was also a big portion. - Miang kha-na: this was my bf's favorite, if you love lime you're going to love this. It was a bit too sweet for me for me though - southern spicy minced pork: didn't find this very spicy and it tasted just like curry paste, I would skip next time, it was fine - kee mao Thai: honesty a really excellent pad kee mao, would get again I would definitely go back for more! read more

The quoted wait times here are always around 1-1.5 hours, and its pretty accurate given the number of parties & limited seating inside. This time, we managed to get in after an hour for a party of 2. Would strongly advise against any parties larger than 4, though reservations appear to be available if needed. Since it was just my fiance & I, we ordered our usual dishes (& some of the ones he had during a prior dining experience here) for a true comparison to other spots. Everything was SO good, with generous portions and great value. The papaya salad & pad see ew were solid classics that were done RIGHT. This is the first time I've had a tom yum soup that wasn't super red but delivered in both flavor and spice. It's not as lemongrass-y as I usually like it, but the depth of flavors was there. The crispy pork with chinese watercress (oong choy?) was a new favorite. I usually find chinese watercress to be a bit flavorless, but this was delicious. Across all spicy dishes, we ordered medium. It was a good middle ground where we could appreciate all flavors while maintaining a good level of spice. Service is super polite, kind, and attentive. Our waters were constantly refilled and dishes were brought out really quickly. One thing I'd give them extra bonus points on is how allergen friendly they are. The crispy catfish mango salad (yum pla duk foo) is my fav thing to order. It comes great as delivery so I'm sure it's better at the restaurant My fav things are the salad, moo ping (pork skewers), and the basil fried rice. I typically order and food comes great. I've ordered the noods and it's good but I think that's prob better at the restaurant I've tried other dishes and I've learned I don't like lime leaf, but I tried the one popular dish there and didn't like it. This review is for lunch. I came on a Thursday afternoon (it was a holiday) and was able to get seated within ~25ish minutes for two people. They will text you when the table is ready. Overall, I thought some dishes stood out more than others. But the apps were PHENOMENAL! Nothing like I've had anywhere else and dishes I will be thinking about long after. Ambiance / Service: restaurant is very small and intimate. Probably not ideal for groups larger than 4. No outdoor seating. Service is very friendly. Food: I ordered the below for two people and it we took some home (portions are generous). -Miang Kha-Na: omg just order this. Sooo many flavors...tangy, spicy, sweet, citrusy. So good and refreshing. I've never had something like this before. One of the best dishes we got. -Yum Pla Duk Fu Salad: again, just order this. This was another best dish we got. I've never had meat this texture before. Dish was bursting with flavor and sooo good! Chicken Panang Curry: we got this mild and it was too hot for me (I have a very low spice tolerance though). Aside from that it was good. -Drunken Noodles: with chicken. This was actually a bit underwhelming. Definitely not bad, but noodles were kind of dry and lacking in flavor. This place is SO good. The pineapple curry duck was amazing! The combination of flavors was very unique and everything went well together. The curry puff was also amazing! The thai iced tea wasn't too sweet, which was great for me (it was still sweet, just not overly so), and the blue latte was SPECTACULAR- it tasted like a vanilla milkshake. Took my mom here for her birthday and we had an amazing lunch! We walked in without a reservation and by noon the place was already packed. We only waited about 15 minutes for a table, and there's plenty to do nearby while you wait. The space is bright, cozy, and inviting. We ordered the red curry, pad see ew, drunken noodle, and the raw marinated crab with mango salad. Everything was so fresh and full of flavor. The red curry was my favorite dish. read more
Food: This is one of the best Thai restaurants in NYC. This is my second time here, and this time we came for the lunch special. They offer a lunch special ranging from $13-14 which includes an entree and a choice of either a fried egg or spring rolls. Entree options include green curry, red curry, pad thai, drunken noodles, pad see ew, stir fry pork with basil, and more. We tried the pad see ew with squid (you can choose the protein for each entree) and crispy pork with basil over rice. Both dishes were excellent in both taste and presentation! The Thai iced tea and Thai coffee are both really good also. Service: Service is excellent here; staff are very friendly and welcoming. Ambiance: This is a very small restaurant with a bunch of small tables, and space is tight. The restaurant is always packed during both lunch and dinner. This is my 3rd time dining at Saranrom Thai in about a month. My wife and I came based on all the fine reviews and we were not disappointed. They offer a wide variety of dishes and their appetizers are recognized by Michelin Bib Gourmand. We ordered the whole fried red snapper which came with a mountain of delicious mango salad and the yummy pad see ew. We also cooled off with refreshing Thai iced teas which was a must on a sweltering hot day. The reviews were spot on as everything was delicious. Although the restaurant is small, it is very cozy and the ambience is welcoming. The prices are very reasonable and the portions are generous. The wait staff are very attentive and friendly. Tips: Get there early because the restaurant is small and lines form quickly. Make sure all members of your party are present or you will not be seated. Stopped in for a quick lunch & this place did not disappoint. Atmosphere & service were great, 10/10 as the employees were super professional & pleasant. Food was good & I would definitely recommend, I wasn't in the mood to experiment so I went with a basic Chicken Pad See Ew & had some chive dumpling. This Thai restaurant is very popular so I strongly suggest to call for reservations in advance. Food is super tasty. We ordered most of dishes from their Michelin recommended list. My favorite of the day is the Yum Pla Duk Fu salad (fried catfish with mango salad). The mango shreds are fresh and not too hard to chew. The fried fish is crispy and flavorful. The combination is just refreshing. It is a MUST to order. One impressing thing about the restaurant is the cocktail menu, all under $10 and presentation is very pretty. Really love all the textures in every single dish here. Khao klook ka pi: never had a rice dish infused with shrimp paste before. Has a nice smokiness/savoriness that felt comforting. Raw shrimp salad: delectable garnishes. Shrimp didn't taste old either. Yum Pla Duk Fu Salad: was hoping for more of that shredded fish in the mix. Feels more like the remains/leftover crumbs of a fry. Overall, I felt this dish I could have been much less salty but still appetizing none these. Cute and pretty cocktails! I always have a lovely time going to this restaurant after work for an early dinner! My favorite dish on the menu is their Duck Noodle soup but I also enjoy their Pad Thai. Since moving to NYC, the duck noodle soup at this restaurant has been my favorite dish. I hope to try their desserts soon! It's decorated very pretty inside, they make good use of the smaller restaurant space. Service is great with servers being attentive to you and always pleasant. I drink a lot of water so I appreciate that there is someone always giving refills. The food is at fair prices for its quality and I will always happily come back:)! read more
