In the area picking up groceries when a sudden pang of hanger struck. Dumpling Town to the rescue! This location is actually a joint location of Kulu Desserts, which serves up traditional and modern Chinese desserts like mochi/fruit/ice cream combos, sweet soups, bubble/egg waffles, crepes, shaved ice and Asian-flavored ice creams, boba tea and other hot/cold drinks. Dumpling town shares the same space and offers casual savory snacks and simple meals, like noodle soups, variations of dumplings, and fried rice and noodles. The space inside seats about 30, in the form of stools at bar-height tables along the front of the store and a handful of booths in the back left. An ordering and pick up counter is located at back right. Staff performed their roles satisfactorily and were able to answer my question about what ingredients were in a couple of their tea drinks. My order of chicken and mushroom dumplings with chili oil $8.75 was ready in about 10 minutes. I also got the $1 add-on for a jasmine green tea. The dumplings were good, a medium thick dumpling skin and juicy meat filling inside, with a nice touch of spice from the chili oil which wasn't overpowering. Based on this experience I'd come back if I was in the area to try some other Dumpling Town menu items since they are a good value for a quick meal. And given that there are limited places to get Chinese desserts, I'd probably come back to try this location of Kulu to see if their selection stacks up to some other spots. read more

There is a dumpling place located in the same establishment as Kulu (likely the same owner), and while I typically get desserts from Kulu, I gave the "food food" a try. You order via counter or at the self-serve kiosk, and there is typically a short wait of maybe 10 mins or so, depending on what you order. The tables/floors can be a bit sticky at times, but overall, I would say it is very clean. I got the beef noodle soup with mild spice. I would say their spice levels are more intense than average, and I am glad I went with mild over my usual medium. The broth was very satisfying with a good balance of umami, spicy and sour, and they gave me a generous portion of beef with my noodles. I added a fruit tea to my order as well, and it was surprisingly not too sweet! My friend got the fish and cilantro dumplings with chili sauce, which I can not speak to personally, but she said she would get it again. All in all, I really like Dumpling Town, and I would definitely be back. read more

Who knew that Kulu (#1) served anything beyond desserts? Certainly not I. Most folks are coming to Kulu for post-dinner treats, but for the many late night eaters (#2), looking for any place that still serves some semblance of hot food is key. Asian food in Elmhurst is plentiful, but after 11pm it becomes slim pickins almost immediately. This is where Dumpling Town makes their presence felt. I don't think they're a separate entity from Kulu. It's a pseudo ghost looking kitchen that had to come up with a secondary name to get away from being scrutinized for selling steamed dumplings next to the ice cream. The seating is somewhat tight, but that's to be expected. The food is nothing new and incredibly simple: Chinese noodles and dumplings. The latter has a quite a few combinations that include the classic pork and chive to more unique flavors such as curry chicken or cheeseburger. I'm a shrimp-pork-chives kind of dumpling lover but I've developed an appreciation for their flounder and cilantro dumplings. I'm still not sure how I feel about their super veg choice of pumpkin and oatmeal, but to each his or her own. They also sell frozen bags of 50 dumplings are available at $35 each. (#3) On the plus side, if dining in, there is always dessert options from Kulu. After a long week of work, and just feeling generally run down, I popped in for a bowl of soup. My partner does not eat pork, so I appreciated the signs that were posted about one of the broths containing it, so I could steer clear in my ordering. I ordered two of the chicken curry dumplings in the spicy broth. The food was made to order, so it took a little longer but that was fine. The place doubles as a dessert shop, so there are cute little booths to share with friends and I sat at one waiting for my order. I really appreciate done of the cooks coming out to verify if the ingredients in the broth were okay before sending me home with something my fiancee wouldn't be able to eat. When I got home, ready to dig in, the soup was still piping hot after a 5 block walk and a 15 minute train ride. The neighborhood here in Queens Blvd and Broadway ain't looking right now like in the past. But I was dying to eat every variety of their dumplings they have on the menu. As I finished then, they look and taste good. It will be better if they add more dumplings in a quantity as I finished one order, it doesn't feel enough for me to fill my hunger. Amazing casual noodle spot in Queens. The noodles are freshly made (might need to wait a while) but worth the wait. There are very few items on the menu but they do a good job on them. The noodles are great for any day and you can choose spicy or clear soup. There are also a variety of dumplings options - some unique ones including flounder dumplings. read more

This place is pretty decent but not mind-blowing. We got the pork and chives, cilantro and flounder and the curry chicken. They took a bit too cool but I'm okay with fresh dumplings. The curry chicken was decent, but the curry wasn't really hitting hon me like I had hoped. The cilantro and flounder was pretty good, but also not hitting home. I was looking for a good fish flavor or cilantro punch and got neither. The pork and chives were good. They had good flavor and that authentic pork and chives I was looking for. I wanted to try a new restaurant instead of going to one of my usual restaurants in the area, so I wound up wandering in here. I was immediately struck by how... sterile and bereft of character this place seemed. Generic benches, generic tables, those coaster-like pagers that signal when your meal is ready that remind me of horrid chain restaurants, a hidden-away shelf of Gundam robots towards the restrooms that struck me as the same kind of random stuff they stick on the walls of chain restaurants... not impressed. I was in the mood for noodle soup so I got their House Special, which has the choice of clear broth, which a sign next to the cash register says has pork, and spicy soup, which I inquired about and is mainly vinegar, water, and chili oil. I got the latter, waited about 10 minutes, and liked my soup just fine. I would not say it was great, for the broth was nothing to write home about, but not bad. Fairly spicy, not "can strip paint off the walls" overpowering and not a "you call this spicy?" disappointment, and they sure did not skimp on the sesame seeds. The beef had the consistency of chunks of pot roast, I could effortlessly slice through them with my chopsticks they were so tender, and there was a decent amount of them, so that I certainly liked. They did not provide a proper noodle soup soon; instead, a plastic spoon a kid would use for cereal. I absolutely hate this practice, for not only is it wasteful, but these spoons are WAY too small. I just drank the broth from the bowl because I'm not going to take half an hour to drink it with a tiny plastic spoon. While eating my soup, the music changed such that, had it been playing when I walked in, I would have spun on my heel and walked out. I'm not sure who thinks it's a good idea to start alternating between dubstep and hip-hop in a restaurant known for dumplings, noodle soup, and desserts, but that person needs a talking to, in my opinion. I actively dislike the discordant screeching mess known as dubstep and I don't care for hip-hop. So yeah, decent enough food, but the decor and the horrible music choice means I doubt I'll be back anytime soon. Oh my gosh, behind the KULU signs and KULU decor, there lives hiding a TREASURE! Behold - this is the place. With the bustle of uber drivers picking up orders, and those waiting for their take outs - it is an incredible place. Dumplings were made fresh to order, who can beat that. Then the bonus is ordering KULU desserts. This is an insane place - if you can stay away because it is TOO CONVENIENT! But back to the dumplings/soup and everything on the menu., ordered everything (ok so the menu is not that huge) but we had a large group that took up all the items (with repeats) from the menu. Then with the desserts, it's just crazy! (that would be the kulu review). The bags we had to carry! But the point is - the place is deserves beyond five stars. Food was delicious. Highly recommend trying this place if you love dumplings. It's different from your usual dumplings. The dumpling deluxe (I believe it had 8 pieces) is a variety of flavors and reminds me of south Asian cuisines. You'd almost miss this spot- the menu is featured in the Kulu dessert shop. We ordered the beef & cheese in chili oil, which was my favorite. The chili oil brought just the right amount of heat. We opted to get the pork & dill with noodles... SPICY!!! The noodle soup will definitely open up your sinuses. We'll probably stick to the chili oil next time. Dessert was needed to cool down, so we got the mango crepe with matcha ice cream. I'll definitely be returning to check out the other cool dessert options. I decided to pick up some dumplings to go from this place. When I looked at the menu, I saw there was a really affordable dumplings & noodles option, so I ordered the spicy pork and chives dumplings and noodles. I waited about 15 minutes (as it states the wait time will be) for my takeout order and expected the wait time meant everything would be made to order. I was right. When I got home, the food was still nice and hot. They packaged the noodles separately so that they wouldn't get soggy. The dumplings were very tasty, but the noodles tasted like very bland instant noodles. Next time, I'll be sure to go with just the dumpling option and leave the noodles out. Also, choosing spicy instead of nonspicy means the whole bowl of food will lose its color and turn red. If you like that kind of spicy oil, definitely opt for spicy! This is inside the Kulu Desserts location. It's an interesting concept. You get to choose eight dumplings (of a single type or a mix of all eight fillings) for a certain price. For a bit more, you can get it as a dumpling soup. And for a little more past that, you get a dumpling noodle soup. I went with the option that let me try all eight dumplings. The prices seem to have increased since the menus were posted, so my eight dumplings plus soup came to $6.50. It was interesting trying all eight of their dumplings. It was tough to make out what each one was, but the pork and dill was the standout. It's not a combination you see very often, so I really enjoyed it. My least favorites were the curry chicken and the beef and cheese. I was excited to try the fish and cilantro one, but I never did find it. I don't know if it just didn't taste like fish and cilantro or if they somehow skipped it and gave me two of a single flavor. The non-spicy soup was actually a lot more than I thought it was going to be. I thought it was going to just be a clear broth or the kind of broth that comes with wonton soup. But it was actually an impressive broth with a lot of seaweed and mini dried shrimp for umami flavor. The reason this is 3 stars and not 4 is the service. It took 25 minutes to get my dumplings. I saw multiple staff members just standing around in the back talking. None of them had any sense of urgency. I doubt they're sitting there wrapping each of my dumplings to order, so all they have to do is throw eight dumplings into boiling water and cook them. There's no way it should take 25 minutes. Go to the New World Mall and order dumplings there. They'll have them to you within 5-7 minutes. I got dessert from Kulu Desserts at the same time, but it wasn't the dessert that was holding things up since I saw my mango pomelo dessert sitting there for a while waiting for the dumpling soup. read more

The wait took 21 minutes to be exact which was a pretty long time for dumplings so I don't recommend this place for a quick bite. The dumplings tasted good but they were not mind blowing. I also found the noodles to be a little too hard for my tastes. Even if you order spicy, the food isn't spicy at all. It's a new addition to the area and I'm happy to have it. The dumplings are good for the price, it's really easy to fill up here and still spend less than $10. They have a $10 credit card minimum. The curry chicken dumplings are nice. Tender chicken, mild curry flavor. The pork, chive, and shrimp are good. The pork and chive are on their own are even better, the shrimp isn't really discernible. You can get just the dumplings by themselves (8 to an order), or you can get them in soup, or in soup with noodles. The spicy broth is not really spicy, I actually prefer the clear broth with a little bit of sriracha. While these dumplings aren't on the same level as Lao Bei Fang, you'll leave full and happy. Wait times are long, and the music is absolutely atrocious (blasting k-pop and dance hip hop). The place is always full of people sitting around, on their laptops, I don't know how anyone gets anything done. They currently offer 10% off when you check in on Facebook or Yelp. I ordered the curry chicken dumplings on their own, and the pork and chive dumplings in soup with noodles. With the check in deal it came to under $9. I'm happy! read more

Forget Chinatown! Get on the R train and come to Dumpling Town! The newton st subway stop drops you right at it. The delux is 8 different dumplings.. not a single one disappointed me! When I walked into the cafe, the first thing I noticed the only patrons were teenage schoolgirls; about a dozen of them. I guessed the food was cheap and decent here, and I guessed right! I got the dim sum deluxe--an eight piece assortment of some of the more popular dumplings, for only five bucks (you get 10% off for checking in on Yelp of Facebook). For a few more dollars, you can add soup or noodles to the dumplings and turn them into a meal. Not a fan of their pork, but the curry dumpling was tasty! The guy at the counter messed up the pager call, so I ended up with a portable vibrator in my hand for ten minutes. More notably, this place has a cool collection of action figures inside a glass display, dramatic lights and all, right in the middle of the room! My brother got the choconana waffle instead of dumplings to satisfy his sweet tooth and he said it was delicious. The workers were also super nice and went out of their way to make us comfortable. The family randomly stopped and this joint didn't disappoint. We almost didn't make it because parking is tough, but a few city block circles later we landed on a residential spot. Back to the food- we tried two types of dumplings and 1 was plain and the other spicy soup format. The reactions: "Delish", the 6 year old "That was really enjoyable", papa bear " it was ok", 8 year old who loved the dumplings but not the super fresh watermelon slush. As for me, it was freakin amazing and is stared on Google maps for a return. Ok wow, didn't know restaurant dumplings could taste this good. These puppies are def handmade so be prepared to wait 10-15 mins on them. While the novelty flavors like beef&cheese and beef&pepper were cool, the tried and true Pork&Chives and Pork&Cabbage were the real champions there. But at less than $5 for 8, might as well try them all. Kinda wish they sold these frozen so I can cook them at home. PS: Don't get the soup and don't get the noodle, you will regret it. I had the pork & chives dumplings as well as the pork, chives & shrimp ones. They were decent but nothing spectacular. I wasn't able to taste any shrimp in the pork, chives and shrimp one though. Service is a bit slow but they are handmade so that's something. They are about $3.50 and comes with about 6 pieces. I took mine to go and they put each order in separate microwavable containers which was nice since dumpling places usually use styrofoam or those clear plastic containers but it felt like a waste. read more

Came here to try the dumplings and I have to say im a fan! Had the most common dumpling type on the menu pork and chives and it was really yummy.
