Food: I stopped in here to try their fish dumplings. Dumplings are made fresh and you can see the ladies hand making each one behind the counter. I was a bit disappointed in the texture of the fish filling; it's very mushy and soft, almost like a slimy paste. The dumpling skin is a nice chewy texture, and you can tell it's all hand-made. I won't be returning to dine here, but maybe the dumplings just weren't for me personally. Service: You order at the kiosk or with the cashier at the counter. When your food is ready, they will call you. Everything is self-service after that. Ambiance: There are a few tables in the restaurant to eat your dumplings. Not the best for large groups. I've now tried their regular dumplings and their friend shrimp / pork and fish dumplings which I thought they were famous for. Their lamb is just so unique and rich in flavor! I also found out you can buy a pack of frozen lamb dumplings (the fried ones with onion, which are way better than the lamb and carrot ones) to go and cook at home! Old Captain Dumpling used to be a tiny stall in a food court in Flushing so I'm really glad that they've grown into their own store, rightfully deserved! The fish dumplings are fantastic and they still have the option of frozen 50 count bags. In addition to their popular fish dumplings, they now sell items such as salmon wontons which is perfect for my parents who eat fish. The wontons are considerably smaller but are still very tasty, albeit you get more bang for your buck with the dumplings. I will definitely be frequenting back for more frozen goodies! read more

O Captain! My Captain! Thank you Harris for turning me on to this place. If you read his review then you probably aren't learning anything new reading this one because I am in complete agreement. The Lamb Onion Fried Dumplings are amazingly flavorful with meat so tender and you get the full experience of lamb (if that "gamy" flavor isn't for you then neither is this dumpling). My friend actually preferred the Fish Fried Dumpling, and I would be perfectly happy eating those if the lamb onion ones didn't exist. Despite the dumplings being fantastic my one gripe is the wrapping technique - it is tri-fold horizontal wise and the ends are "sealed" by being pressed together, but unfortunately when I was eating these dumplings the juices and any vinegar (or other condiments) were squirting all over the place through the seal. I pass by here all of the time and decided to stop by here yesterday, I ordered the Lamb and Onion Fried Dumplings. From the first look I thought they would be interesting. Unfortunately they were more frustrating than anything. Because of the way they were wrapped, the meat ALWAYS fell out. Every single dumpling no matter what side i held whatever way i held it, the meat constantly fell out. I didn't eat one dumpling where I ate the skin and the meat in the same bite. I believe they started their business inside the food court within New World Mall before moving to this location because the dumplings taste the same, but I'm not entirely sure. Their boiled fish dumplings are pillowy soft and savory, which pairs well with the black vinegar that they also provide. The fish dumplings are simply filled with fish and scallions, but they're delicious and don't have an overpowering fish taste either. The smallest order of cooked dumplings is 12 for $15. The delicious chicken and mushroom baked buns have a generous helping of protein and are easy to carry out. Also try the fish dumplings and the big steamed buns. The dumplings are fresh and handmade and you will be able to taste the difference. According to the owners, the food is representative of the Shandong area of China.
