DO NOT eat here-- TLDR. My server -- Nives. The restaurant wasn't busy, but they initially tried to seat me in a dark corner in the back. I asked to be moved and they accommodated with a better seat. Unfortunately, things got worse. They brought me the wrong order, service was rushed. As soon as I finished eating (after only 30 minutes still had my first drink), they brought the check--without asking if I wanted anything else. I actually did want to order another drink. The worst part? When I handed over my card, they charged me $120 instead of $42. I caught the error. The food is overpriced for the quality, and the service was honestly bad. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. -- update to business response -- 1) The waitress asked if I wanted dessert (which I declined), I never asked for the check 2) Yes they gave me a drink in a to go container that needed to be discarded because it's illegal to drink on the streets & drive with alcohol in a motor vehicle 3) I repeated my experience at the front to 2 different employees when asking for the check to be corrected My experience was a combination of multiple things. Establishments should take responsibility for ensuring staff are properly trained and managed. Go to the Thai restaurant in Minturn, great example of fantastic service. read more

Incredible food . Incredible service . Incredible atmosphere . I came from Los Angeles visiting a friend and local to vail. He suggested this place and I'm happy he did. It's a sister restaurant to a slightly fancier vibe. favorite thing was probably the wagyu, not sure why more people don't order it, maybe the price of $55. Everything was fresh and seasoned well. Highly recommend. read more

Servers were friendly. Restaurant was nice. Food is worth the price 100%. I've been back to Mountain Standard for dinner service a few times, so it's time to update my review. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - The inside remains the same. It's very busy and loud. It's modern, upscale, and chic. Mountain Standard epitomizes Vail. 1 Star. Service - I'll focus on reservations. You can begin booking a month out, and you should. Walk in patrons may dine at the bar. If you're solo, this is fine; however, if you are planning an outing, make sure you make reservations. The servers are fantastic and know the menu. If you have a particular craving, just ask for their opinion and you won't be disappointed. 1 Star. Food - We were lucky to dine on Mountain Standard's 10th anniversary, and our dinner began with complimentary appetizers. Our server offered us a pineapple tuna crudo along with beef cheek bao. The bao was delicious, and the beef cheek was super tender. Since these were not on the menu, I'll move onto what I ate. I started with the pimento cheese. Wow - easily the best pimento cheese I've ever had. The cheese was topped with a bacon jam, which I mixed and generously spread onto the grilled bread. I could have eaten two portions of this dish. I also had the French Onion Soup. It was ok. But the star of the night was the Shrimp and Grits The shrimp were perfectly cooked, plump, and came with no tails! The grits were buttery smooth and topped with crisp pancetta which gave my bite a bit of salt and crunch. It made my top 3 shrimp & grits of all time. While the soup was meh, the Pimento Cheese and Shrimp & Grits easily made up for it. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. Mountain Standard's menu continues to evolve. All future trips to Vail will include a trip to Mountain Standard. 1 Star. read more

Mountain Standard is a nice restaurant, but what makes them stand out is that their food is cooked over an open and live wood fire. The traditional style of cooking and the open kitchen create a rustic but also welcoming environment. The food is delicious. The service is great. It is not a cheap meal, but it is a very high-quality one. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner one night. We sat inside, but patio seating is an option as well for those who want a view of the river and mountain scenery. We were quite hungry so we ordered a few different things. We started with Martin's green chili and the smoked angus short rib. The chili was good, but the smoked angus short rib was the clear winner between the two. The short rib was huge, and it had a lot of meat and a lot of flavor. I had shrimp and scallops for my entree, and he had the corned pork shank. The seafood tasted fresh, and the corned pork shank was super flavorful. Both paired so well with the purees that they were served with. For dessert, we had the chocolate lava cake. It was rich, and it was a great end to our meal. Our meal costed a pretty penny, but the experience was well worth the money. There are plenty of good restaurants out there, but Mountain Standard is a memorable one. read more

I cannot say enough great things about this restaurant! The food...the staff...the ambiance....LOVED!!!! Best meal by far since we've been here...staff couldn't have been nicer or more attentive...lunch was leisurely and not rushed at all...and every dish that came out was phenomenal! Can't wait to come back!!! read more

Delicious food with great options! The pimento cheese dip was great. Great ambiance with a kitchen view too.

This was our first, and won't be our last for Mountain Standard. We've eaten at Sweet Basil (sister restaurant) and wanted to give this one a shot. The tip from our hotel was to just drop in despite reservations being full, because many times the patio is first come, first serve. And we got a great seat with this useful tip. The service was top notch. Joe our server provided an amazing explanation of the menu, and was honest about what to skip. We started with the ahi tuna crudo, perfect for a warm summer day. The tuna was fresh, and burst of pineapple and ginger complimented the fish. What I loved about the dish was the balance of flavors and textures from the sweetness of the pineapple, creaminess of the avocado purée and the heat from the samba sauce (homemade of course). The next dish was one that I have never seen before on a menu, the grilled avocado and pistachio dip. Interesting combo that I would never have paired together. While not the most photogenic dish, the flavors will wow you. Grilling the avocado gave it a slight smoky flavor and the pistachio added a slight sweetness. The dip is decorated with these beautifully pickled pink onions and serrano chilis add the heat. A warm basket of crispy black lime tortilla chips give the dip the extra bite and salt needed to bring it all together. Don't pass this spot up next time you're visiting Vail! read more

Our "go to" spot in Vail for bone barrow, pork ribs, awesome drinks, great service, and good people watching!! There's really nothing on the menu that isn't delish. As always - we sat in the bar. The Mountain Standard gives a contemperary take on American food and is restaurant worth your visit. This was recommended to us before we got to Vail so you'll want to get a reservation far in advance. Mountain Standard has been in Vail for over 10 years and Mountain Standard shares the same owners as Sweet Basil. I enjoyed the dining experience. The only downside was a rowdy table next to ours but sometimes that is how it goes. We shared the smoked short rib empanadas, rotisserie chicken salad, the smoked short rib char siu as an entree with a glass of Malbec. I had to have the buttermilk sea salt biscuit as it was recommended by friends before the visit and it didn't disappoint. The presentation of the dishes were enjoyable and entertaining. When ordering it didn't feel like a lot of food but walked away satiated with no room for dessert. It's on the pricier side but on par for Vail. read more

This place was recommended to us by a lot of people while planning our trip to Vail. We originally made a dinner reservation, but shortly after the GM called to let us know they would be closed for an employee holiday party and to either join them for lunch or dinner on a different night. She even emailed me afterwards so I had her info in case I needed it. We stopped in for lunch and sat at the bar and had a wonderful afternoon. Brian was the bartender and couldn't have been more hospitable. The rotisserie chicken salad was delicious, the dressing was full of flavor and their smoky Bloody Mary was yummy too. I would highly recommend visiting Mountain Standard while in Vail. read more

Slow service, stuffy, got several things wrong with wife's order more than once. Stuck us in The bar despite the fact we had kids.

Nestled in Vail, Mountain Standard epitomizes cozy upscale dining with its inviting ambiance and delectable offerings. Despite not having reservations for our party of seven on a bustling Saturday afternoon, we were promptly accommodated, and the service was impressively quick. The restaurant boasts a wide variety of drinks and a menu that caters to diverse tastes. Our culinary journey included the hot chicken, which left a satisfying impression, complemented by delightful biscuits. However, the true standout was the butternut squash babaganoush, a flavor sensation that transported our taste buds.As expected in a tourist town like Vail, prices at Mountain Standard lean towards the higher end. However, the exceptional quality of the food and the overall dining experience justify the premium. read more

Been dying to try out Mountain Standard for years!! I am ashamed to say that it took us 7 years to finally try out the place when we live just a pass away and are always in Vail. Huge regrets! Regret that it took us that long to finally discover our new go-to place in Vail. Beautiful restaurant, great bar area, amazing crew and delicious food. Not surprised though, all our restaurateur friends in Vail say MS is their favourite restaurant in the area. We've tried Basil and love it too so MS lived up to the standard for sure. Went for dinner and sat at the bar, Mr New Jersey bartender made great recommendations (sorry did not catch your name). Went back 3 days later for lunch and Brian was great. Will definitely be back!! read more

Great ambience and service from our waitress. There were some mistakes in which food got brought to us by mistake. We did order the spaghetti dish with seafood but we found it too over seasoned. Had the corned pork shank. Split it with my husband and so glad we did. Huge portion. It was absolutely delicious. We're foodies and corn our own beef. Now I'm googling for corned pork recipes. Very popular restaurant in Vail. Food is super prepped in advance for fast execution. We ordered and got an intricate entry that was served to us in like five minutes so that was a little disappointing when you don't even have three sips into your drink or time to unwind. The staff is on point, but very pretentious And uppity up and no sense of urgency because they act like they're doing you a favor. read more

Everything we had was so good! The green chili cucumber cocktail was fantastic. I know, it sounds weird but it was refreshing with just a hint of chili (I'm not typically a cucumber drink or a spicy fan but somehow the combo mixed perfectly). The margaritas were fresh, not too sweet. The food was amazing, we had shrimp tamales, chicken salad, and the gyro. All were light yet filling. Best food we had in Vail! read more

Visited for lunch today. Got there at 2:40pm and was able to get a table for two as most people were finishing up their lunch. We ordered the Cheeseburger and the Wedge Salad. I don't typically order burgers from restaurants because they never cook them well done which is the only way I prefer them. I asked the server if they would cook it well done and she assured me they would. I wanted to try it because it had pimento cheese and bacon so it sounded unique. When the burger arrived it was cooked well done! I was so happy. The taste was really good - we had a side of onion rings with it and they were slightly spicy but not too spicy so they were a perfect accompaniment. The wedge salad included avocado which made it stand apart from a typical wedge. I highly recommend this restaurant - we will return when we're in Vail again! read more

This place is one of my favorites at Vail. I would say it's the best one because of food, service, staff, location, and being dog friendly. With family, I had a good time. Berger and salad are very good for a lunch. Dinner menu is different and it starts around 5pm. read more

Great menu. Incredible food. Located right by the river. Beautiful. Hit as hell so don't go when it's hot outside

Been here plenty. Pork shank is what they're known food and get it if you go. That should make it a 4 star. However the dining room constantly feels like a sauna. We've been multiple times and all I can think every time, summer or winter, is how hot it is. Last time we went we had a reservation and there was a table on the patio with the exact number of chairs for our party. Could we sit there? No, it was reserved for walk ups... The sister restaurant Sweet Basil is fantastic. Without fans or a more accommodating sitting we may not be back to Mountain Standard. All that said, our waitress Alyssa was fantastic and really on top of things. read more

My family love going to mountain standard for its ambiance and casual yet sophisticated atmosphere. We had the: biscuits - buttery, take about 20 minutes to come out wedge salad - light and crunchy! Absolutely delicious ahi tuna tataki- was fine, glad that we got it because it was lighter rotisserie chicken - good but didn't love the polenta chicken salad - good for veggies, lots of bacon, more of a bowl than a salad star of the show was the short rib - falls off the bone with crunchy rice puff The service was pretty good. We had a bottle that was corked, but the team was great and got us a new bottle. read more

We went to eat there because a friend recommended it as one of the most popular and great kitchens in Vail. It was delicious, but I was not thrown away by the menu. They offered a short and diverse menu, including fish, hamburger and entrees. Every dish, as simple as it looked, included a "different" ingredient from how traditionally it would be done. For example, the burger included a pepper cheese and garlic sauce instead of mustard or ketchup. I had the Rocky Mountain Trout with veggies. The price was not over the top, ,I ding that we were in Vail. All CDC recommendations were in place and the service was very good. If you want to go, you must make a reservation. They run out places fast. read more

No sensible review is any good without photos; It's my favorite thing to do... Scroll the yelp "timeline" in search of the best looking food when I'm scrolling the menu. But I'm not practicing what I preach so next time I visit I'll update with some pics of my favorites... And on to the important stuff.. This place is a foodie and service Vail staple for tourists, locals, and semi-locals (like us) who will drive up 70 just for some pretty scenery and this spot. Which is saying a lot because the 70 is, well the 70. (IYKYK). Our favorites, the bar seating because the bartenders are super friendly and attentive. They serve the best margarita within a 100 mile radius. Man it's good. It's consistent. I've seen the same faces many times. The food is always excellent! You can't miss the biscuits and the pimento cheese. We usually hit this spot up before the dinner menu and you honestly won't go wrong with anything, from oysters to killer turkey club, onion soup and fried chicken sandwiches. Don't be naive and try to walk in without a reservation after 5pm, you will be in for a wait. But it's always well worth it. read more

This is a top notch restaurant. We got the cauliflower app. Outstanding. Hard to make cauliflower taste that good. Really creative. Mrs and I got the trout. One of the best fish dishes I have ever had. Trout with butternut squash gnocchi. And the gnocchi were toasted. Outstanding flavor. Ordered a side of fries for kids. Amazing. Perfect fries. Had an apple/huckleberry pie dessert with vanilla ice cream. Knee buckling. Kids had a s'mores drumstick but they're selfish and didn't share. Overall the food was really high end.
