Delicious lunch in Vail! We were visiting for vacation and asked a few locals a restaurant they would recommend. Mountain standard did not disappoint. The famous pimento cheese appetizer lived up to its hype. And both sandwiches were delicious. Our server was great and very attentive. Would highly recommend. read more

The Piri Piri Chicken...O.M.freakingG.! My partner recommended this dish and I typically steer away from chicken dishes when going out for a nice dinner. I'm SO glad she chose it because the flavor was amazing, the chicken was super tender, and the portion was perfect. Don't overlook this dish. It's a little spicy but if you can handle medium-hot wings, you can handle this. One star removed because the bathrooms were in dire need of being cleaned and the trash emptied. One toilet was overflowing as well, yuck. Not what I would expect in an establishment like this at all :( read more

I only had the chance to enjoy 3 burgers in the Avon area but this one was the best in the area. Only a few things could improve this solid (4.5 Yelp stars) mountain burger. It was a tad overcooked per what I ordered and a bit colder than I would have liked. Not a common combination. Ingredients: A Cooked to order: B (little overcooked) Service: A+ (we sat at the bar and our service was incredible) read more

All the nice reviews are correct! Really amazing food. It tastes so good. Got the baby carrot and kale salad, it was the best kale salad I ever had. Also got the rocky mountain trout, replacing trout with salmon. It was super delicious. The atmosphere is really nice, and it's conveniently located in the middle of the village, in front of the beautiful river. read more

This place is amazing. We got 4 apps which filled up 3 of us. Pimento cheese with bread and the ahi crisp (recommended by the server) were our favorites but the octopus and biscuits were also amazing along with the biscuits. Service was on point - our server could not have been better. Wish I remembered his name but he had a mullet. Sick mullet! Book well ahead of time if you can! read more

Stopped by yesterday at 4:30 with my 9-year-old son and asked if they had a kids menu. The hostess said they aren't serving food right now (which wasn't what I asked) and to come back at 5. Per their website they actually are serving food 'in between' during apres time. I even asked again, to clarify they're serving nothing and she said that was correct. translate her response to mean they just don't want kids there because there were other people eating. Too bad, their menu looks good but we'll take our family money elsewhere. read more

Absolutely amazing experience!!! The food was approachable but with elevated classics. Incredible flavors & twists on all of your favorite items! Drinks were unique and inspired. And our server made the night- Austin was extremely welcoming, attentive, knowledgeable and friendly! TOP NOTCH all around! Do not miss an opportunity to visit this restaurant. We were looking for a restaurant that would serve the "essence of Colorado", but we hadn't found one until one of the hotel staff recommended Mountain Standard in Vail. After making our reservation, we headed out to Vail from Beaver Creek, assuming we would be there way ahead of time. We did not realize that the car park was around 5-8 minutes walking from the restaurant, so I was glad that they didn't mind us being a bit late. The ambiance was cozy with dimmed lights, and our very friendly hostess guided us over to a corner table with a view of the outside snow. After going through the menu (and perusing Yelp pictures), we settled on three dishes, the Bone Marrow to start, my main being the Coffee and Cocoa rubbed Quail, and Meredith having the Rocky Mountain Trout. We stuck with unsweetened iced tea, which had a bit of a mango flavor. The bone marrow came out first, beautifully plated. As expected, the marrow was fatty, and very rich. The tiny little potato latkes on top helped cut down on the richness somewhat. We both agreed that the grilled bread (soaked in butter) was overkill...ordinary, or simply grilled bread would have been a better accompaniment. My main, the quail was phenomenal. The root vegetables were earthy, rustic and not overwhelming. The quail was tender, plump and the crusting was perfect, and the quantity substantial...I easily had two to two and a half quail on my plate. Meredith Rocky Mountain Trout was very tender, perfectly cooked. The sauce was a bit unusual but had a great mouthfeel and lightly sweet taste (it was made from apples). The accompanying vegetables only served to enhance the taste. Overall, a wonderful meal, and a great way to cap our stay in the ski areas of Colorado. TL,DR: I would come here again. Get the quail and you won't be disappointed. read more

Excellent food in a bistro atmosphere tucked on the lower level of Vail's main commercial street, facing the creek. Short menu with contemporary American choices. I really enjoyed my rotisserie chicken which was tender and flavorful. My partner had the octopus and prawn paccheri, a dish that was new to us. The seafood was cooked to perfection. The snickers ice cream bar was a superb way to end the meal. Attentive service, outstanding food and a pleasant atmosphere made this an outstanding choice. read more

This used to be my favorite restaurant while visiting Vail. Visited 7/2 from Denver. My husband ordered a NY steak and my son ordered the kids meal NY steak. Both meals cuts were full of 75% gristle/ fat we couldn't consume. And had a pile of it on the plate. I mentioned it the the waitress after she brought us the check because she never actually never checked on us after someone else brought the food. She said if it's the cowboy butter. Yeah, no- that is the poor quality of cut of steak. She could have cared less. The best part is she didn't discount our meal or anything and we got to pay almost $200 for a shitty meal and service. The wine that I ordered was fine and husband's margarita was good is why they get 1 star. I will certainly skip it next time and not go back. They lost a repeat customer. Awful food! Certainly has gone downhill food and service. read more

Ambience and view are impeccable. Prices are high but it's a ski town. Service was fine. I'd go back.

Empanada appetizer was delicious--I could have eaten several of those! I also got the wedge salad, with prosciutto and fennel I believe, a slice of avocado. The guys enjoyed their short rib and fried rice--short rib was tender and absolutely delicious. It was pricey but it's also Vail, I'd recommend this place for some good food. Ambiance is lovely, not too loud and great decor/feeling. Our waiter was great as well as one of the managers who was going around and making sure everything was good. Lastly, they allowed us a table without a reservation as long as we were up and out by a specific reservation time, which was plenty of time (we got up with 20 min to spare to be polite). read more

Music is too loud and annoying selection. Food was average at best. Disappointed. Came here a few years back and loved it. Won't come again.

Upon arriving at Mountain Standard on a Thursday night we were met with a bustling restaurant and a packed bar. Despite the long line at the door we were quickly seated as we had an 815 reservation. Service was very prompt and within a few minutes we had two tasty cocktails in front of us. We asked our server for some menu highlights and he pointed out the Pimento Dip, Bone marrow, pork shank, and trout bo saam. The Bone Marrow and Carparccio was a lot in one dish. We were advised to mix everything together but found that the saltiness of the bone marrow overpowered the Carparccio. Both were delicious but should have been separate appetizers. The Bo Saam was one of the best dishes I have ever had. The crispy trout was perfect for the lettuce wrap and who would have thought a house made buffalo dipping sauce would bring it all together. This was easily a 1 Michelin star dish. Unfortunately, we were so full we ended up not getting desert. Definitely expensive but in line with other top restaurants in Vail. I would happily return. read more

Top notch cocktails, impeccable service. Char sui short ribs were on point.

** Overall a 3.5 ** This place is POPPIN'. Came for dinner and it was packed, inside and out. Noise level is an all-time high. Our group of 5 was seated at a rather cramped table - our fault since we pushed our reservation back, I guess. Food is fine, but the overall experience included is sitting at a 3.5. Wasn't too fond of our waiter. Barely came to check in on us, cracked weird jokes, not friendly, no smiles - you get the picture. Table next to us was a large group of 10+ European boys who were clearly drunk + rowdy + way too loud. Was not enjoyable. On to the food. If you're thinking about ordering the pork shank - just order one. Huge portions. Should have gotten two quail dishes instead - was probably the best dish of the night. Wagyu steak was fantastic as well. Shrimp and grits were a bit underwhelming. Bone marrow came with too much bread and not enough actual marrow. The potato hash on top of the marrow was also extremely burnt. Drinks were fine. Mr. Pink has no alcohol taste. Margarita was GREAT. Had a better experience upstairs at Sweet Basil. One time thing for me at Mountain Standard. read more

Is the altitude making me light-headed or is it the amazing flatbread? Came here for a light lunch and loved every minute of it. Great service, beautiful decor, gorgeous table by the window overlooking the stream and colorful fall foliage, this place was the complete package. Started with a Funkworks Tropic King, which is a surprisingly strong saison beer. Ordered onion rings for the table for an appetizer...perfect, as was the dill-inspired ranch dipping sauce. Had the clam chowder, which was good and ordered the fig and pancetta flatbread. Topped with sweet fig spread, salty pancetta and crisp and thin green apple slices, that was hands down one of the most delicious things I've ever eaten. I had some of my friend's hamburger and that was amazing. Like eating a steak more than a burger. Another friend had a salad, which she loved and another had the salmon which he said was great. It's probably a tough ticket to get a seat here during prime season but I bet it would be worth the wait. I wish they had this Mountain Standard on Eastern Time! read more

Top 5 dining experience. Date of Visit: 7/26/14 Went to Mountain Standard for our anniversary dinner at the (very high) recommendation of friends. Simply put, everything about the experience was 5 star. There are not many meals I'm ok with shelling out ~$200 for, but I was happy to sign the bill here. Ambiance: Creative. The restaurant has a very modern, but rustic vibe, a style I have a personal affinity for. The location is great, tucked away a bit from the main village and set on the creek that runs through downtown Vail. We were able to sit in a covered, open-air section, which really brought the outside in. Service: Impressive. Everyone from the hostess, to the bartenders, to the servers, was personable, knowledgeable, and fun. This is an extremely busy restaurant, but our server made us feel like the only guests there. He was very attentive and provided great food and drink recommendations. Food: Outstanding. Our meal consisted of Shrimp & Grits, Wood Grilled Bruschetta, Berkshire Pork Loin, Colorado Lamb Sirloin, Peanut Butter Pie, and Seasonal Fruit Crisp - See pics for details. (Exhale). It was hard to pick out favorite parts, as all of the dishes were damn near perfect. If forced, the Shrimp & Lamb dishes were the two (extra) shining stars. That said, it was truly an amazing meal. If you're looking for a special place for a special occasion, or just really, really good food in a fun, contemporary setting, Mountain Standard delivers. read more

This place gets my vote for THE BEST meal I had while visiting Vail. Each dish we had was original, very flavorful, and cooked to perfection. We started out splitting the "standard" wedge salad and I have to say the name was the only standard thing about it. It was the most original wedge I have ever had- and the tastiest. Full leaves of fresh romaine topped with an original dressing (not blue cheese dressing) Blue Cheese, avocado, crisp Prosciutto and puffed farro instead of croutons make this salad a must have starter. As my main course I had the Loch Duart Salmon, which was Salmon with Brussels Sprouts, Coal roasted sweet potatoes, apple yusu dressing and Korean chili. The flavors all came together well, the spices perfect. Again, very original. We also had the rotisserie chicken and honestly it was so good I'm not sure which dish I liked the best. The service was wonderful and our server Rachel knew everything there was to know about the dishes, the ingredients and the history of the restaurant. The only negative experience that we had was not being able to get in for reservations again during our stay- we were there over a weekend and they were all booked up. If you are going to be in Vail make sure you have a reservation well in advance of your time here, its well worth it! read more

The first time I came to Mountain Standard was years and years ago, when they were the new, shiny restaurant on the block. We loved our meal so much back then that we had to return when we found ourselves in Vail again, though this time, the dinner reservation was much, much harder to land (and deservedly so)! The service is as friendly and well-paced as ever (there was a slight timing hiccup with our biscuit, which ended up arriving while we were in the middle of our mains, but our server, Ryan, provided us with constant updates while it was baking.) The drinks are super strong, creative, and well-mixed, and the menu has that Southern comfort with some global flair. (It also has those Vail resort prices, so just be prepared.) Favorite dishes included the "Standard" wedge salad, which is so good, our table remembered it from five years ago, and we actually all said we wanted to order it at the same time! The wood-roasted bone marrow, served over toast, was absolutely delicious, and the crunchy bits on top added textural interest to the dish. The coffee and cocoa-rubbed quail with dates was like a punch of flavor reminiscent of Middle-Eastern flavors (though some members of my party swore it tasted more East Asian). And the corned pork shank, with meat so tender, we didn't even need a knife to tear the meat away from the bone, felt like a nod to German pub cuisine. I have to say, the biscuit, which I remembered so fondly from a few years back, felt smaller, denser, and less buttery than back then, and I'd probably skip it next time. Don't make the same mistake we did: save room for dessert at Mountain Standard! They had a really incredible apple bread pudding on the menu, and it was so decadent and delicious, but we were so, so full we just could not finish. (Note: their ice cream and sorbet selection was very limited: I think they had vanilla and cinnamon ice cream, and then apple-cinnamon sorbet, so I guess you had to really like cinnamon that night.) Mountain Standard also has a great happy hour with the friendliest bartenders: one bartender heard that we were following the AFC divisional game score and lent us his phone so we could watch! They also make an incredible hot chocolate using steamed milk. The restaurant feels as exciting, welcoming, and inspired as when they first opened, and I'm already looking forward to fighting for that coveted dinner reservation next time I'm in Vail. read more

Amazing meal and flavors. We shared the tuna crudo, grilled carrot salad, steelhead trout and squash gnocchi, apple-huckleberry tart and coconut-key lime tart. 5 for 5 amazing ... flavors that exploded in your mouth. In addition, the wait staff were wonderful; they worked as a team! Our dishes came out in the order that we requested, each one after we were obviously done with the previous one. We were not made to feel rushed. We had a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Highly recommend the Mountain Standard restaurant. read more

By far my favorite restaurant this year. From start to finish, was so good. We started with great cocktails, I had the Old Fashion, my husband had the Manhattan. Both were perfectly crafted, loved the crystalized ice in my drink with the perfect orange peel. We picked the roasted olives to accompany our cocktails. As a starter we shared the whipped goat cheese, mushroom toast, OMG, a must. We shared the roasted carrot, kale salad, so inventive, great salad. I chose the salmon entree, seared rare with crispy brussel sprouts, caramelized roasted sweet potatoes, so good, the plate was beautifully plated. My husband had the trout, he is still talking about it. We had no room for desert, as the portions were large. The whole meal was so good, service was really excellent, atmosphere super nice, we had a booth. We had wines by the glass with our dinner, nice wine list. I highly recommend this restaurant, can't wait to go back. Do make reservations, it was super busy on a Wednesday night. read more
