We've been to Monarch a few times in the past year. Last night was a disappointment. Our party of 4 was unfortunately seated at a pinch point in the dining room....right next to a service kiosk...clacking plates, silverware and full of service staff it was a horrible distraction. The bussers cleared the table while we were still eating. I had to defend my dinner from being taken away....it was really disappointing. Let's mention the food....It was okay. I had ordered the carpaccio as an appetizer which was mediocre, not sure if order it again...my main meal was the short rib ragout. Love the flavor and I'd recommend this. The beet salad was flavorless and a disappointment. My wife had fish which she said was okay and my colleague had I believe it was the pork chops with a reduction glaze. It looked and smelled fabulous. In short, the last time we were at Monarch was magical. Everything was perfect and our experience was amazing, so having the opportunity to dine at Monarch again, I had high expectations...unfortunately these fell a bit short. If you can reserve a quiet table... schmooze with the sommelier (ours seemed preoccupied and bothered), enjoy the views and the people it really can be nice. Attire. Yup. Truly the best dining experience I've ever had. The whole staff makes you feel so special from the champagne toast walking up...getting a tour of the whole restaurant..to getting to pop a bottle of champagne with a Sabre. I think we had one of the best seats there. It was the best view at a restaurant I've had - I think probably only the the Shard can rival it. Cocktails were so unique. I loved the Spicy Lady. Probably the best part of the dinner was we learned our waitress (I wish I had caught her name) had served us on our anniversary at Danny Grant's restaurant in Chicago, Maple & Ash, a year ago. She was amazing and really made our meal. She even gave us a special gift at the end of the meal to remember it. Truly went above and beyond. For the food...the bread is perfect. We started with the crudo which was so refreshing. Then we got the truffle risotto and the spicy rigatoni. Highly recommend both but the rigatoni is unique to any other alla vodka pasta I've had. Very addicting. We also got the ribeye - a little over cooked for our liking but good in flavor. I'm excited to try the filet next time. She also brought us out the lobster spaghetti for free..which I'm so glad we got to try. Really nice dish. The polenta is also so creamy and amazing. We ended on the chocolate soufflé and carajillos. WHAT THE HECK??? We are die-hard foodies, having eaten at the best restaurants, not only in the area, but the around the globe (including Asia and Europe)l. We are talking about several 3-star and 2-star Michelin restaurants. We showed up on time for our reservation, being impressed by complimentary valet service, sparkling wine and elevator service. We were delighted to be given a window seat with a fantastic view. Wine list was amazing! Everything on the menu looked so appetizing, that we ended up ordering 8 items, along with 2 cocktails and a bottle of wine. Unfortunately, our spotless experience was seriously stained when we were just 2 hours into our multi-course $600 experience and were TOLD that we needed to move out and finish our wine at the bar. WHAT THE HECK?? Was it because we said we weren't going to order dessert??? This has NEVER happened to us before, but we complied. It was such a let-down to our experience. Food was good, but expected better from our Kagoshima A-5 wagyu. We had MUCH better quality. However, this IS the place for a special occasion, especially if you snag a window seat and NOT be kicked out of your table after 2 hours and $600 tab. This place is impossible to get in and you can see why. Absolutely delightful. I have been to Oak and Ivy in Chicago part of this group several times so my expectations were high. They delivered just fancier and more pretentious. It is a bit of a throwback being on top of a building with everyone overdressed, but this is Dallas not New York or LA. Texans have to prove themselves. And that they do. I usually don't order a $250 dollar bottle of wine, but I came back to Charlotte and ordered a case from Robinson Vineyards in Napa. Best wine I have had in a restaurant in a very long time. The mark up was normal, but it was still $250. We had the tasting menu. More courses than you can count, lots of presentation and service. Oysters and caviar, flaming crab and pasta, incredible wagyu (Texas of course) Each course unique but still familiar. Nothing farm to table about this place. You expect the Reagans fresh from Palm Springs to sit down next to you entertaining Frank and Bob. It was a real delight. My son from Miami, a member of the last bastion crowd of glitz and glamour was duly impressed. A truly entertaining evening. I more than got my money's worth, but New York and London restaurants pale at how expensive it is. I was extremely disappointed by the service our party of four received at monarch. My first visit (over a year ago) was amazing and had me singing the praises of how great the service was. My mistake. This time we arrived early for our reservation so we could have some happy hour snacks. We were told that HH was only in the lounge and we could sit where we liked. We waited over 20 minutes At A Table without ANY service or explanation. Then we gave up on HH and just asked to be seated. They walked us across the entire restaurant just to walk us back to the hostess stand because our table was for 5 instead of four. We told them at the hostess stand and at the downstairs reception we were a party of 4. We then had to wait another 20 minutes just to get drink service because our waiter didn't appear and the other helpers didn't take our drink orders. We ordered caviar service and they tried to remove the half full caviar tin 3 times. I loved my first experience here, it obviously is turning into another version of the reunion tower, bad service, mediocre food and high prices. Do not recommend. read more

Restaurant is definitely over hyped. We went there for my birthday in May. Waited over thirty minutes to be seated followed by a further wait once at the table to order food and wine. We asked for help to order a bottle of wine and it took forever for the sommelier to come over to us. We ordered The Royale Tasting Menu which is supposed to be a representation of their best dishes. The raw dishes were good, the crab pasta was over salty and the steak was cold. Bread basket never arrived. Dessert was good, service was poor. I cannot say enough positive things about this restaurant! I was invited to a pre-opening night and I was impressed from the moment I dropped my car at Valet. They had hosts to guide to the right spot, I was met with Champagne before going up, and then when I made it up the restaurant, my jaw hit the floor. One of my friends said it best, "I feel like I'm in Hong Kong." The view is incredible and the design is 10/10. Once seated, the staff was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and very attentive to our needs. Every single piece of food I put in my mouth was perfection. There was nothing wrong with any of it and I can be incredibly picky. That is why this chef has earned two Michelin stars. This place was the best restaurant I have ever been to and completely blows all the other Dallas fine dining establishments out of the water. And to think I was there on a pre-opening night and it was still perfection. I could go on and on, but I won't. Bottom line: get a reservation and go. You will not be disappointed. read more

Did not live up to expectations. I was told that this was one of the best restaurants in Dallas. They couldn't seat us at the time of our reservation, so we had to wait at the bar. The bartender got one of our drink orders wrong. Once we were seated, the service was incredibly poor. It took the waiter forever for every aspect of our meal. The waiter knew I was vegan, but brought out a veal dish for me (not what I ordered). The drunks at the table next to us ordered San Pellegrino, which was promptly brought to our table. Celebrated my anniversary with my boyfriend here tonight. Everything was great until we tried to ask a worker or security(idk) to take a picture of us on the stairwell when he literally shooed us and told us to move. He was so rude and aggressive about it my boyfriend asked if there was a problem if we did something wrong. He had an extremely condescending tone which just made us leave without taking a picture. I took my girlfriend here for dinner a weekish ago and we had a great time! She got the all pictures she wanted with the view lol everything was great from the feel of the restaurant to the food. Even when we first walked into the building this host named Yulia came up to us with free champagne and told us about some other cool things in the building. We tried to go to the observation deck she mentioned but it was closed while we were there. We're definitely going back for that and to try some of the other spots she mentioned. read more

Wonderful food and service. We managed to snag a 7pm Saturday reservation and the hostess sat us at a window seat. The food was phenomenal, and our server was incredibly attentive without making us feel rushed. As the night goes on it does get more crowded and the music can give it less of a fine dining and more of a lounge feel, but if you're aware of that and don't mind, you should have a fantastic time. If you're sensitive to louder places, suggest getting an earlier reservation. read more

Though it wasn't love at first site, it certainly redeem itself to us and OVER Exceeded our expectation and truly deliver. The service was EXCEPTIONAL and the food...well, I have no words expect to say that every bite we took it was like ding and going to heaven. That good!!!! Monarch is the nicest and classiest restaurant in Dallas that I have experienced by far. Even better than the Reunion tower (Wolf gang puck). The view on the 49th floor is exceptional. You will get to see the top of every single building in Dallas with your fine dining here. Food was stunningly delicious (The kind that takes your breath away and tickles your taste buds with a lingering umami flavor). Service was excellent. It was not too much attention but just enough that I could feel relaxed doing whatever I wanted at the dinner table. Our server was so incredibly observant that he was be able to get us new seating by the window with a view (we originally sat a little closer to the inside and could not enjoy the high rise view at all). Drinks were strong ! They are so smooth that overconsumption of cocktails is a must here. Dessert was a definite final gentle touch to cleanse all of the fine food that we had overindulged. The restaurant is clean, following covid protocols, and placed hand sanitizer on each table. Our waiter T provided great customer service, was attentive, and knowledgeable of the menu. Came here for my birthday during opening week. Building is gorgeous accompanied with a warm welcome and drinks while you wait for the elevator up. Once exiting the elevator, we were seated promptly. Our server was knowledgeable and support staff was great. View was excellent. Note that it's also a little too loud for my taste as the tables are quite packed. In terms of food, calamari was a little disappointing. The veal was a bit underwhelming and heavy on the breading. The halibut was my favorite dish but I could tell the chef loved his salt. Have to start out with booking over 2 months in advance this was very unfortunate. Unless you have a window table not sure it is worth it. It's a I've been there not a repeat type of place. Service was so so as it felt we were the least "expensive" table. We were there to celebrate mine and my spouses crushing of sales goals and were not greeted by our waiter for 20 minutes. It was to the point my spouse had to flag down someone to simply get a drink. Water once served a drink was non existent. Also, noticed multiple waiters taking shots, even opening bottles and drinking from tables before serving. This was quite odd as I have never observed this kind of behavior. I would recommend just trying to grab something by the bar which seemed pretty full most of the time. You will get a much better view and probably better service. Quite underwhelmed. read more

One of the easier reviews to write. Its pretty simple. Go! This place has it all, great views, great food and great service. Had some friends in from out of town and wanted to show them some of what texas had to offer from a fine dining perspective. Monarch did not disappoint. They provided custom welcome menus and seated us at the chefs table close to the kitchen. Ran about $700 for the 4 of us but that was with several adult beverages. If I had to nitpick on some things (which would be nitpicking), they charged for valet which I thought was kinda odd, It is in downtown but I have never paid for valet at a high end steakhouse, just the usual tip for the drivers. The old fashions that I ordered were a bit pricy at 25 dollars a pop, usually in the 16-18 range at most places. But like I said these are all minor things that are non-issues for a place of this caliber. Oh, after your dinner dont forget to walk up 1 flight of stairs for a 360 degree view of the city.
