Great views of Dallas from the 49th floor of the National building. Even in the bathrooms! Mohammed was our server. What a friendly and knowledgeable gentleman with a great sense of humor. We can tell he really enjoys meeting new people. The four of us had dover sole, halibut, filet mignon and scallops. We loved every bite. Great service. All main courses arrived hot and at once. Sides were all excellent. Enjoyed the signature cocktails also. Had a chocolate soufflé for desert. Felt like we left Dallas for a vacation. Can't wait to go back and try more entrees. read more

My wife and I made reservations after a few months of grinding between working and trying to be good parents of 4/7yr old wild boys - a night eating good food at Monarch was going to be our reward. Instead of relaxing and enjoying and well deserved date night, I was asked to wear a jacket because my long sleeve black sweater was not business casual enough. And yet, the two folks next to us at the bar were literally wearing Under Armour hoodies. The women at the table behind wore ripped jeans and basically the same shirt as me. To be honest, I would be fine wearing a restaurant jacket if it were not hot and the feeling I was singled out. I asked the staff several times if I could just put the jacket on my chair until the sun went down but was rudely dismissed. Did that really need to happen!? We will not return to Monarch again needless to say. read more

Food, atmosphere - amazing! However, for the price one pays, the manager should rethink how they turn tables. When you pay $400 for 2 hours at a specific table, you should receive the full 2hours and not be rush or approached by a hostess 1.5 in to convince or ask you to leave your table to have drinks in the "observatory" room. Which for those reading this review the "observatory" is a vacant hallway w/views where they drop off current customers so the restaurant can seat new customers. This should only be necessary when a table overstays their welcome, not when they pay for a specific time. This was at least the POV of every other couple, group we spoke to in the "observatory" hallway. It was a bitter taste to end what started as a great evening and meal. read more

What a difference a year makes. Last May my visit was perfect for atmosphere, food AND service. On the evening of 2/26, the atmosphere was the only perfect part of the night. After being seated, Xavier came by to give us a greeting and order drinks. He said he would send a sommelier over to help me pick a champagne. 20 minutes later, Xavier was just standing around while my husband's drink came but I still had nothing to drink. Someone finally did come over and the champagne came out promptly. So then the food started coming out. Bread was delicious. The meatball appetizer was wonderful but the tuna tartare was way too salty. Then came the biggest disappointment of the night = my veal parmesan was just warm and completely soggy. I also requested a side of crushed red pepper at least 3 times and it never came out. At this point, no one was filling my champagne glass as it got empty, so my husband started going over to the ice bucket to do it himself! Xavier finally comes back to ask how it's going when I tell him it's not so great. A lovely manager named Vincent came over and took some items off the bill. But, at this point, the evening and my opinion of Monarch was ruined. There is no reason that a restaurant (that takes 2 to 3 months out for reserving a window table and is not cheap) should be providing such lackluster service and food. I hope that Vincent took the opportunity to do some service training after our visit. I'm not sure when (or if) I'll be going back to find out. read more

The most elegant dining experience I have had in Dallas. The attention to detail was incredible. From the free valet, walking in to the lobby and greeted with a glass of champagne to enjoy on the elevator to the swanky lounge was a great touch. The bar area where we waited for our table was also a comfortable spot, the tables and seating are more comfortable and spacious than your average bar/waiting area. The cocktails list is fun and innovative. When we were seated, the staff saw the notes that we were celebrating a birthday and brought us yet another glass of champagne on the house. They started us off with bread/olives/salami for the table which was delicious. We ordered the highly recommended meatballs for an appetizer and were not disappointed. We went with filet mignon and the halibut with sides of asparagus and whipped potatoes. Everything was so tender and delicious. We then shared the chocolate cake for dessert and it was quite the serving to share between 2! They also were generous, yet again, and put a candle and a little gift of sweets for the birthday boy. This was an incredible experience, on top of the view and the beautiful decor. If you are looking to treat yourself, or somebody special, I definitely recommend. read more

My second review and I can't say it will be any better. I live in the building and went to visit just as I normally do about 3 to 4 times a week. I arrived without a reservation and asked to be seated in the bar area. The hostess saw my party and walked us to our table. 20 min later after I've been seated and served a drink, a security guard walks up and asks us to leave. I tell him we were seated and have a drink so what would he like us to do, leave and not pay, or wait and pay. At this point I asked the the manager on duty EJ who I've frequently met at the restaurant. Once he arrives I ask him why am I being treated this way and that this man is being disrespectful and he makes some hand gesture to the security guard and at this point the security decides it's appropriate to put his hands on me and push me out to the elevator. At no point did I ever present myself as a aggressive "woman" to where it was appropriate to put your hands on me. This establishment is not one that respects women and there is no way I can make any more excuses. They are racist and classist. read more

Was in town for work and decided to try this place. I would highly recommend enjoying an evening of food and drinks. I would especially recommend our waitress Rachel! It was busy and we didn't have a reservation. We were asked if we wanted to sit in the full service bar area. I am so glad we did! Rachel was courteous prompt to handle any request and honestly with as busy as she was we never waited on her or the food and drinks. We had reservations for Saturday night dinner but still had to wait 15-20 mins for our table. The atmosphere was very loud and crowded with the amount of guests and staff coming & going. The food was delicious but portions were small we had to order a second entree. We ordered the black truffle risotto, ravioli, and the bolognese which were all delicious. This place is stunningly, cosmically, comically bad.  Where to start?  Dinner for six.  Cocktails and appetizers ordered.  All good so far.  But then wine was ordered.  And 40 minutes later a wine arrived.  In between, inquiries were made.  Our waiter said that one of "his soms" would come.  Eventually one of said "soms" appeared (full tweed, Brooklyn bartender look; solid) to explain that they were out of the ordered wine and would substitute a similar wine for the same price.  All good!  In time, a second bottle was ordered and poured among the six of us.  And then, no more.  Not once were we asked if we would like to order another (why, you may ask, did we not just ask our waiter.  Good question. To say that we rarely saw him after entrees arrived would be close to an overstatement.) Entrees arrived minus the black truffle risotto meant to be shared. Entrees included a veal parm pounded wafer thin. Sides include a polenta that a dining mate described charitably as "runny" (think of a super thin porridge). What of the risotto? Inquiries were made. Our waiter told us that the risotto was not forgotten but had not been made to the "chef's tasting" (a secret, I suppose, only to be revealed if a diner were to ask, "where's the risotto?"). Risotto arrived after entrees finished.  Somehow this one was to the "chef's tasting" though how is a good question.  Desserts were ordered (at this point it was a battle of wills). Three desserts, four coffees, and a port. Two desserts came plus a lonely scoop of chocolate ice cream meant to accompany a piece of chocolate cake. Coffee but no port. Inquiries were made. Cake arrived a few minutes later with port following several minutes later. During the "meal" a manager was found for discussion, but he seemed far more interested in chatting with his staff. Why one star? They comped the risotto and port. Even so, a thousand for dinner for six.  I suspect the draw is the view. But in a city full of great restaurants, choose another. read more

I went here for the first time yesterday to celebrate the closing of my house. I had reason to celebrate and a family friend referred me to Monarch explaining it's the best restaurant in Dallas. I've been to plenty of nice restaurants so I wasn't expecting much different than any other fine dining other than the view. However, that couldn't be farther from the truth. On the elevator ride up a fellow patron told me he had been once and he could only explain it as "magical" and it was exactly that. The drinks were delicious, the food was superb and the overall experience was one of a kind. My waitress was Kim and she really made me feel like a vip even though I was just some random out-of-town guest. I ordered the Chef's Special so I could experience the best the restaurant has to offer and every bite tasted better than the last. King crab, wagu steak, caviar, oysters..you name it, it was included and amazing. I almost didn't go because I couldn't get a reservation until 8:30pm and I had an early morning but I'm so glad I did. Would highly recommend to anyone and will definitely be back the next time I'm in Dallas. I would also like to make a note of Yesenia, the hostess. I made my reservation last minute but she made my celebration special. My expectations were blown out of the water! If you can, definitely get a window table. read more

Dined last night, party of three at 5p, wanting to avoid the later crush. Got a choice window booth as a result, and the food was quite good (prawns and wagyu carpaccio were standouts), served VERY quickly, a bit rushed in fact. While 2 of us were in the bathroom after dessert, the Maitre d' approached our third and told him he needed the table, and would be happy to move us; when we got back to the table, he did the same thing again, and it wasn't at-all polite. He could have handled that so differently; very sour note to an otherwise nice evening; I won't go back. read more

Fantastic experience with my fiancé. Most places like these you will find that you are paying for ambience more than anything else. not here though. The service, food, atmosphere, and experience as a whole was beyond my expectations. I have served at 5 star steakhouses for a good portion of my life and have never seen such amazing service. The maître d' Ryne came over and personally ensured that we were enjoying ourselves. He was extremely polite and welcoming for us and it made a huge difference to feel so welcomed. Say "cheese"! And not just because you're stepping past millennials taking selfies for IG, but because the atmosphere is also cheesy. This place may last a while because people are desperate to go out after being isolated for so long, but it does not have the staying power. Service was 1 star (we were there for 3 and a half hours and not by choice); masks were optional and people were everywhere; girls in the bathroom taking selfies (yes-the bathroom). The food was mostly good and the restaurant was very nicely done, which is the only reason it got 3 stars. For the more sophisticated crowd, spend your money wisely at a better, more refined place. read more

We had an absolutely amazing experience here Saturday the 21st. There were four of us having a reunion and in the mood for celebratory experience and Monarch did not disappoint. We were staying at the Thompson so were glad to get a reservation. Our server was absolutely the most professional server I've ever encountered. I wish I could remember his name, he seemed to be a trainer for the ownership group. He truly was next level perfection. He expertly guided us through the menu suggesting cocktails, and giving us decisive answers when we asked. The Spicy Lady cocktail was amazing. We all were impressed with our chosen appetizers and entrees but the carpaccio, oysters, and lobster spaghetti were all standouts. The Night Cap dessert was gorgeously presented and such a perfect end to our experience. The interior is gorgeous, we were able to easily converse and views were a nice little icing on the cake. read more

Although I am terrified of heights ( our friends treated us for our anniversary) it was a surprise, the experience was wonderful! It's a beautiful setting as soon as you walk off the elevator. I was not looking at the views but focused on the decor. My husband loved the views . We had drinks that everyone enjoyed. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the octopus and the meatballs for appetizers. The bread is amazing as well lol. Our entrees we all different I had the halibut delicious! My husband had the lobster pasta w generous Lobster in it , delicious!! Our friends had the wagyu steak - I'm sure I spelled that wrong but you k ow what I mean) that was fantastic! Last but not least our other friend had the ravioli w shrimp - just as delicious as everything else! Oh we also had the whipped potatoes, the mushrooms and the artichoke sides again all fantastic! Made a reservation several weeks in advance and purposely chose an earlier time (6pm) to avoid a later dinner crowd. The service was very good. Our server acknowledged the dietary restrictions we had mentioned when making the reservation and made sure there were no issues. The bread was phenomenal as was our dessert--a citrus olive oil cake. Honestly it was one of the best dishes on the menu as it was different from the other typical dishes on the menu. I recommend you all bring it back as a core menu item. Upon arrival we were politely told that the staff wasn't ready for seating (because we showed up before our reservation time/ open time) and offered a complimentary glass of champs while waiting in the posh lobby. Took the elevator up 50 floors that opened up to a breathtaking view of downtown Dallas, hip bar, and very friendly & attentive staff. That was the low light of the evening. Ha! We decided on family style service as there were too many delicious choices to choose from. Jenna showed up with so much knowledge and suggestions with our order that ended up being "spot on". She just knew when to come to the table for refills or answers before we knew the questions. Our Som, Kyle, was absolutely adorable and I could tell he's passionate about his job with the stories and explanations of why, what, how, when, etc when it came to the wine selections. Jacob was an unexpected pleasant addition to the whole dining experience as he quietly & politely cleared our table. Overall, the entire night was memorable and one I soon hope to relive! read more

The most amazing new restaurant in Dallas from food to atmosphere and service that is just over the top!! We have been twice in the past 2 weeks and it was consistently excellent from the GM down to the food. I emailed the GM how great everything was and he was very gracious!! Everything was just amazing. Connor who gave us a tour, Jenna as our server and Nicole was a superb wine Som. We could not have asked for anything else to improve our visit!!
