We recently went to Michaels to have a picture framed. It was a vintage canvas that required special handling and we had the good fortune to meet Hamriet. She has greater than 20 years of experience with framing and She worked with us to have our canvas framed as if it would hang in a museum. Her attention to color and matting was wonderful. This is pertaining to the Aaron Brothers stores that Michaels has absorbed for custom framing. DO NOT USE FOR CUSTOM FRAMING. Been in twice and experienced terrible customer service. Straight up ignored at the custom framing counter both times, and ultimately had to ask for help; a simple 24x36 matboard cut request was cut to 24x30 and then met with a shrug and a suggestion to try a different color that didn't work with my art; a second matboard cutdown was handed to me with a bent corner, a special order matboard hasn't materialized after three weeks when promised in a week, with no phone calls about it; and truly egregious upselling for products and service worth a fraction of what they're charging (take it from me, I worked at an Aaron Brothers 20 years ago - the value was questionable then and is way worse now). Mostly this is about shabby standards. They're charging premium prices and screw up simple requests, delivering compromised service and materials. How could anyone trust them to handle artwork that can cost in the hundreds or thousands? The mousy brunette with glasses should be fired. Seriously incompetent. I've never met someone worse at their job. If it wasn't wasting my time it would be comical. read more

Lots of different craft supplies, a small selection of art supplies here. Great for decorating for Holidays and Seasons. Pricing is good when you have a coupon, or when it is on sale. Always check the internet and check regularly for specials. Parking lot is ok, but crowded during major Holidays. Aisles are very narrow for the carts they use. Check out is much better since it has been rearranged. Front along Colorado Blvd. has been painted and the windows have been decorated with some nice graphics. Good place for variety of plastic and silk flowers. Professional artists would probably want to go somewhere else, unless desperate. read more

You got to love Michaels. They got discounts left and right. I also found out that different stores carry different items. They have so many items in the store for all seasons. I get a sensory overload on what do I need when this happens. The items are mostly made in china or imported. So don't expect quality items. I bought items online and the nice gentleman helped me return my items without the receipt. I did have the order information with me, so he had to input each item for the return. The day I went, the lines can get long. I don't think it is often but just got to beware. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have a large parking lot with two entrances/exits. read more

Spent so much time arguing with the manager for nothing but his confusion. His attitude and the way he talked was ridiculous. He acted like I was cheap and stupid who doesnt know the math. So he offered to do the math for me! Nice! and It was me to actually came up with an idea to stop his confusion about "buy on get one free". Here is the whole story, I bought a frame with and offer "buy 1 get one free". I decided to take the smaller frame which was cheaper instead of the same one. Two days later, I went back to Michael's and wanted to exchange the small one( the free one)to the same one that I purchased for. I took only the small one and a recipt with me. I told one of the cashier and she totally understood everything. She called the manager to help her out and that started everything. He came and said that I needed to pay for a different. I was like why? And he explained so many things about why I need to pay for the different. It all didnt make senses. He said "you dont understand what I am saying" and I said no I dont cuz it doesnt make sense. He offered to do the math for me and said that I made him confuse. In the end I told him to check how much it would be if I got the frame and pick the same one for the free one. He said this is what Im gonna do, he did his things and it turned out to be even. It was exactly the same price i paid two days ago. Where was the different that I need to pay regarding to him? After he found out, he said ok this is mine and that is your done ok? Their curbside pickup is a joke. Took forever to get the order ready, and once I was there, I called to give my info and then waited again. Only to have an associate come out and ask me for the same info. I swear it would have been easier to just go in store. I recently went here to pick up some yarn to make a scarf for my friend. There are many color selections here.. like 2 aisles of yarn! Lol. Everything is pretty organized, the people working here were pretty friendly and kinda helpful. lol There's always a lot of good sales going on at the store so definitely keep an eye out for that. Also they have coupons online. The parking lot is not too bad, it's always full tho. Definitely come here if you ever feel like being artsy Fartsy. :) lol read more

Michaels is a necessary evil when it comes to supplies, I really mean Evil. They really don't have any redeeming assets about them. Don't buy anything until you get the 40% coupon in the paper. - That coupon will not work on anything you want because that will already be on sale at 0.35% less or some bullshit lower than normal so it voids any deals. - Don't ask about anything because anyone working there won't know. - They won't let you return anything opened, even if it is not fresh, spoiled, etc. - Framing will cost you an arm and leg there, so skip it; even with the 50% ad it's still a grip. - The earth will stop spinning if they open more than 2 registers at once. - The staff is stupid ( I know it's covered, but yeah.) - I think they own JoAnn's Fabric because they suck the same. - You will find just about anything in there cheaper else where, if you have the will to track it down or wait for it to ship to you. read more

Ok I seem to be going here more and more. If you need to complete a school project or get some craft items this is the place. I have been here several times and by far this is no Walmart or Target. Those stores do not offer what Michaels has. This is ok because I have found items here that make doing a school project that much easier. With that the end project turns out great and I was happy with some of the premade items I found. If you are a fan of model cars and planes this is the place. This Michael's Location is smaller than most other stores, so the selection isn't as extensive as other stores. Walking around the store with T-Mobile reception is horrible. Trying to download a coupon or anything just takes forever and a day. =[ Otherwise, I usually can find whatever I need here such as Cardstock, silhouette cutter items, various Martha Stewart items. I am huge fan of crafting. I come to this Michael's frequently since it is so close to home, however...... I don't understand why all the crazies shop here. WTH. Every time I come in I see a register person being berated by some old crazy lady with 12 coupons trying to haggle down the person at the register and holding up the line. I have never been in a store where there are so many unhappy old women that you couldn't pay to crack a smile. COME ON people! Sometimes I have to take people craft shopping. As much as I dislike chain stores, Michaels and Joann's serve their purpose. They carry a wide variety of items and sometimes online shopping just takes too long. I want instant gratification! So, I took my friends from TikiPinball.com here to get some paint for the machine they were working on. They restore old pinball machines and occasionally have to do fine detail painting. We got them a nifty paint tubes holder as well. But only after circling around for what seems like 15 minutes to try to find parking in their lot. And it wasn't even Christmas! We eventually just parked on the street. I do think the store is old, tiny, cramped but it has an upstairs full of yarn stuff. I was lost up there for a while petting furry yarn (um...) and I noticed they also seem to have a huge balloon section and curling ribbon section. I guess they're more of a gift wrapping type store? There's another section for what I call male craft supplies with hobby kits and model toys to be painted. That bumps it up to two stars for me because they carry more stuff than the other Michaels I've been to. read more

Crooked. Not-centered. Rude Manager. NEVER go to Michaels in Pasadena, CA to get your framing done. The most argumentative manager just got off a phone call with my family member. The manager thinks that an 1/8 of an inch is centered enough and that is considered "ok" according to Michaels acceptable standards. All the in-store employees pointed out the crookedness upon pick-up!!! Also, it has been at the store for almost a month and a half now and is STILL not correct when we went to pick up the piece ... 3 separate attempts. I would not trust this location with your pieces - invest in a more reputable company, especially if standards are this low :( read more

This makes sense at other stores, but not Michael's because there is not a sign set up or clear instructions *There were a lot of sale items not in stock, yet the store told me that they wouldn't do a raincheck *I walked up to the register with a "display only" item, and I was told that I would get the real item once I paid. I checked out at the register, and the employee tried to sell me the display item, which was an empty box. I kept explaining to him what the "display only" sticker meant, but he didn't know how to redeem it. In the end, they claimed to not have the item anymore so I left empty handed. OVERALL Staff needs to be better trained, and the store needs better organization. read more

I recently stopped by this store with my boss during a Friday afternoon "field trip" if you will. You gotta get out of the office and around the town sometimes to keep things interesting. I'm just glad my boss agrees and that she is a craft lover like me! I see more of these "field trips" in our future! :) While I love Michael's and the thousands of craft items I could spend hours and hours perusing through... this location was a little disappointing. The building is a little to small to house their array of merchandise. You definitely feel cramped the minute you walk in. They have done their best in utilizing space, considering the entire framing department is located on a second level, but I think a few more thousand square feet would do them a lot of good. During our visit I was disappointed in how poorly stocked a lot of the items were. There was merchandise thrown in various areas by, I would assume, rude patrons that don't know how to put things back from where they got them. I also noticed an over abundance of small children which could be another explanation for the messes seen in various areas of the isles. These kids were screaming, crying and running around the store like crazy little hooligans. If you are going to take your children to a craft store (or any public place for that matter) you should keep a better eye on them! Discipline, people! Ohh geeez, now I sound like my grandmother. We did find a rack of sale items for $1 each. There were tons of great finds on the rack, so we of course filled our baskets accordingly. The problem with the sale racks is that I end up buying things I absolutely don't need! Hahahaha... shame, shame on me. Horrible parking + people who can't park because reversing and trying over and over (x3) just ain't enough = fashfasdhufadf. Is it just because it's the holiday season? Either way, my brother and I visited earlier today (enter the store, take the stairs up) to see how much it would cost for a custom frame that was 40x15. The sales clerk was helping a woman already, but she directed us to check the walls first which we had already done before heading to the counter. When we came back, she was assisting a different lady for upwards of 20 minutes. In the end, we ended not putting in an order because a basic frame that size would be $450+ to build. We ended purchasing a basic frame approximately the same size for $19. read more

I was going to give this place a 1-2 starts but it saved itself. We came here needing a small painting framed. We came in and headed up to the framing department. The guy that was helping another customer told us he was not the framing person, and that the framing person had gone on lunch. We were told to wait 30ish minutes for them to come back. I'm sorry but a store that has a framing department really should have at least 2 people in it that know how to do the framing stuff. We did a little shopping cause we needed some other things, and headed back up to the framing section. We ran into another employee and asked if he could help us cause we were tired of waiting. He said he knew a little bit, but would be happy to help. A perfect attitude. He proved to be just knowledgable enough and got our framing order in for us. I don't understand why it was so hard that no one else could help us. Overall the store feels crowded and has a bad lay out. The lanes are not labeled. The customer service is also lacking. They also need to work on making sure people are trained on things so their customers leave happy. The saving grace for them was that helpful employee. read more

My main complaint about this Michael's is that they NEVER EVER restock!! NEVER! I hate coming here and only do so because it's so close to work and everytime I step in here I grind my teeth. They ALWAYS RUN out of stuff - this pisses me off because I come here for something specific and when they don't have it, I would have wasted my time! (reminds me of the Walmart off of the 60 fwy in Hacienda Heights...fuck that Walmart too) I thought its because I come at the wrong time when they haven't restocked yet but I've asked the cashiers many times when they restock so that I can come at the right time, they tell me they restock on Sundays, I come on Mondays and NOPE.... RESTOCK MY ASS! and when its obvious they DID NOT restock, I ask them when the last time they restocked, they give me some lame ass excuse...ughh..I'm so pissed. Plus they never have enough cashiers working...Cashiers are nice but when you have customers standing there waiting, sighing and figgeting, its no bueno as I have witnessed. read more

This store is a lot smaller than other Michael's I've been to. It has a decent sized parking lot, although it's incredibly busy and chaotic at times. Worst case scenario, park on the street and avoid the crazy drivers. The store itself is small but well stocked. I never have any issues finding what I need, although more than once I've hit low stock on a few items. But I keep coming back here because it's close to where I live AND also because during peak seasons, the staff has got the madhouse holiday lines in check. They scan all your items and bag them before you hit checkout. So, by the time you get there you just pay with your card. Then you're out! read more

I come in here for late afternoon inspirations that require new material. On my last visit, I came an hour before closing to get these badges for a project of mine. I walked up and down each isle and had no idea where anything was. I found my self getting distracted by all the cool looking artsy stuff and bumping into kids getting school supplies. Personally, I think staples has better school supplies then Michaels. I think this store is more for specific projects of the sort. Anyways, I had to eventually hunt down an employee to find these creatology badges. After trying to find an available employee to help me, I spent a couple of more minutes trying to explain to her the brand and item to her. I thought I had all the specifics to find it, yet she was still a little puzzled. We eventually came to an agreement to what I was looking for and quickly maneuvered my way to the cash registers. You have to be careful with shops like this, because the lines will get super long super fast. It's like, everyone's running on the same wavelength. One person is ready to pay, means we're all ready to pay! After spending a couple minutes in line to pay for my one item, with one register open I was finally able to get some fresh air and drive peacefully to my home. Only to find out that this product didn't meet my standards of quality. Boo me, and boo my abilities to properly and efficiently look for items via google. read more

I been coming here a lot more recently, all no thanks to their app that they offer on our handy cell phones. With that app you are able to pull up the 40% off coupon any time of the day. Since Pasadena is pretty much my second home, whenever I am in the areas, I will 'swing' buy to make a purchase. :) My recently obsession is Martha Stewart's paper shaped hole punches. I do not know why, but I am starting to collect them now. I have different shapes, size and I pretty much have most of their cutters design so my next target would be to get a Cricket cutter. Those things are about $200+. Prices for Martha Stewart cutters: individual shapes run about $10+ the rolled cutters are $20+ with the 40% off, its a steal deal! Man! Talking about these cutters gets me all hyped about going back tomorrow. Maybe I should pick up another hobby so I don't spend all my money on cutters. Haha. Oh! Before I forget, picture frames on the second floor! They have a huge variety of frames to pick from. They also have custom frames too, never tried it, so I am not quite sure what the turn over time is like. Michaels is also the go to spot for me when I am able to frame a family portrait. read more

A out-of-place dingy shop in the nice city of Pasadena. Parking lot is small and messy. Cars block the entrance and cause traffic frequently. Cars are coming in out after another (not even peak hours. I was here at 11AM!), but nobody seems to be leaving! Street parking is your best bet. You will definitely find things here and there for $0.99 or so and you fall under the impression that this is a cheap store for arts and crafts goods, but there is also overpriced crap everywhere. Example, a SMALL bag of fake diamonds is $20. What the heezy! This place is only good because we don't have enough craft stores! IMO, Jo-Ann's is better. My advice: Get in, get out, then go Walmart after. read more

I was not surprised by the ton of low reviews for this place. I've been coming here for a couple of months only to deal with frustration every time I go. I always buy Krylon spray paint, and I always have to wait at least five minutes just for a worker to open the cabinet of paint. As I go to pay with a 50% off coupon, they rudely deny the coupon since it was for another date. That was fine. Knowing they have 40 % in every weekly ad, they wouldn't even give it to me because I needed visual proof of it. Please!?! So after paying full price, he hands me the receipt with a print-out of their 40 % coupon and tells me 'You could use it next time.' Anyone would be left frustrated. The next time I go, I attempt to buy spray paint again with a 50 % coupon (on the correct date), but instead is completed frustrated and disappointed that they put the item on sale. It turned from $6.49 to $4.99. My coupon would have given it to me for around $3 if I got to use the coupon. However, because of the sale, it negates the coupon. I tried to talk with the employee saying if they could just charge me full price and get the deal, but it didn't work. How do you expect people to use their coupons if everything is on damn sale!? Never bothering with these people again. Please avoid yourself the frustration and don't bother ever coming to this location. read more

As an artist, I almost never have to go to Michael's, and when I do have to go, I wish I didn't . But as much sh*t as I want to talk about Michael's, they do have a lot of little knick-knacks that are good to have that I couldn't get anywhere else...including.. those tiny little wooden clothes pins for hanging pictures. I literally called five stores for these clothes pins, and Michael's had them. So weird. BUT... if you are going to but painting supplies, opt for your nearest art supplies store... because this place is overpriced. In conclusion, yes for crafty items, wooden clothes pins, popsicle sticks, assorted gift wrapping ribbons, mason jars.. especially when they have sales!
