I have to give Michael's a three-stars because it's the closest one to me. This place really needs to work on staffing their registers because there is always a ridiculous line. I wish I could say more, but the main reason I come is to get stamps and their selection is pretty dismal. Either they are phasing out their stamps or they just don't keep up with inventory. However, I am just glad there is a craft place around because I have no idea where I would be able to get the spray on adhesive or E600 glue. I am kinda disappointed that they don't sell fabric because they can really bring in the business that was lost when Joann's closed on Lake. Oh well. I can usually find what I need, which is all that matters. Lastly, the parking sucks so be careful when entering and leaving this place. read more

They do a really good job with their custom frames my issue is the wait time for service. If there's someone ahead of you, you'll most likely have to wait till they are done ordering because there's only ONE person working the front desk. I ordered a custom frame on December 20, 2019. The receipt says that the framing will be done by January 4, 2020. I went today, January 5, 2020 to find out about the frame and to pick it up. To my surprise, it was not ready because of some problem with the frame. Excuse me but you had this since December 20, 2019 and you couldn't figure out that there was a problem until it was time to deliver it? The manager's response to me being upset was "Do you want to cancel the order? Really? This is the best you can do after waiting for three weeks! Cancel the order and start over somewhere else. They are full of it as far as I am concerned. I have spent thousands in framing (have art collection) at Aaron Brothers, NO MORE! This place is not cheap but the treatment, their customer service and their carelessness to details is appalling. I can take my art elsewhere you do too! read more

My relationship with Michaels is very unhealthy, but I keep coming back. This isn't my favorite Michaels, but there isn't any other Michaels nearby and Joanns is kind of far... therefore, I'll take it. Every time I come here (which is much much more than I should), I can always expect a big mess. A lot of the inventory is missing, some packages are open, items are misplaced, and etc. I don't blame the store because there is A LOT of foot traffic here, and you can see the staff frantically trying to be helpful and put things away. Of course Michaels.com will always have nifty deals that will keep making you come back and overstock on items that you clearly do not need. By the time you know it, you will end up with 6 books of cardstock paper and tons of glitter. I do get bummed out whenever I actually come to the store with the intent to buy a specific item and find out that it is sold out... unfortunately, this does happen VERY often. This is what I wrote into Michaels.com so they know what is going on: To Whom it may concern: I wanted to write in and let you know that I have experienced really poor customer service at your store as well as on the phone. The individual who answers the phone is very unfriendly and unwilling to help. Additionally, she has left me on hold with no warning for 5 minutes. Only then did I hang up and retry my call where I had to wait again several minutes to speak with someone. Finally, when I spoke to someone they were completely unaware of what they had in stock (even though they were on the floor) and put me on hold again. Literally, someone new kept answering the phone (4 people total which is ridiculus) as they did not have a clue what they were doing there. I might suggest a more rigorous training and hiring process. So whoever is doing the hiring for this store is not doing a good job at all. Customer service would make up for the lack of product that you have in this smaller store. I think I visited here during a huge sale. I was here on sunday july 20 at about 6pm to put together a quick package for a friend who I asked to be my MOH. i was able to get a few cute things after about 20-25 minutes of searching. I get to the line and it's pretty long only one guy working.. soon enough another woman comes and opens a lane. So I had a bunch of things in my hand and the cashier is ALMOST done (like about to print the receipt) of the customer in front of me. ALL THE CUSTOMER's stuff is bagged.. so the counter is empty. So start placing my items on the counter as they are about to fall. The cashier (a black guy with glasses who looks and sounds like braxton hartnebrig on the jamie foxx show) puts one finger up to me to signal for me to wait.. and he says "hold on"... no smile.. nothing. I inform him things were about to fall out of my hand. He kinda rolls his eyes. He rings me up its about 7 dollars I inform him that I have a coupon on the app .. I try to open the app but it freezes (mind u the line is now short because of his back up). He takes a few deep dramatic breaths and says.. well it's only 6 dollars)... I just pay it. Not to shade the job of being a cashier.. bbut he OF ALLLLLL people should know that saving a buck is useful.. a$&hole. read more

To paraphrase my coworker - How can a store have so much STUFF and yet have nothing I want? I spent over a month waiting for them to restock their embossing powders, and nothing ever happened. Yes, I did ask if they would restock it multiple times, and the employees always responded "I am not sure. Check back next week" Another time, I was in the store looking for white sewing thread because, it's a crafts store and you'd think they would have that, but nope! None. Also, the framing department here is understaffed, and the wait times can be HORRIFIC. I was just here last night looking for scrapbooking papers. The stacks they had were poorly organized and not all in stock, and the loose sheets they had were just awful. I didn't notice the embossing powders, but I think they had been replaced with...glitters? Or flocking powder? Sadly, this isn't even the worst Michaels I've been to, so...two stars! read more

SELECTION: Although its a smaller store, it has always had everything I was seeking. I dont have any issues with the range of the merchandise at this location. I actually like that this location feels more like a "neighborhood craft store". Maybe this is due to the physical space feeling smaller making it feel cozier. STAFF: The PROBLEM is the staff. When going into this location on my lunch hour, I automatically have to reserve 20 minutes for waiting in line to check out. There is always, always, ALWAYS a line wait of at least 10 minutes; this wait time is the same if I go in the morning, evening or afternoon. Additionally, some of the staff act really bothered when you ask them for help. At one visit, I literally witnessed one worker telling a customer over the phone that he would check if a product was in stock. The worker held the phone to his chest for a few moments, then told the customer that the product was not in stock, WITHOUT actually going to check. That's really messed up, dude. BOTTOM LINE: Although I always find the things I need, I hate interacting with the staff and always allocate a 20 minute window for the habitually long check out time. read more

Upon entering it was a bit overwhelming with their store layout, so much flowers and color in your face. Anyways, the store was very well stocked even around the holidays, everything seemed to be in their right place. We got what we needed, spent way more time there than planned but that's to be expected at such place. This Michaels was so tiny and crammed! I went in looking for scrapbook paper for a project I'm working on, and they barely had a choice of designs. Also, they didn't really have any stickers. I really wanted a Hollywood sticker pack, and they didn't even have one. This is LA right? Then once I got my paint and supplies and ready to check out, I didn't see the "Line waits here" sign. I went up to a lady at her register and she was on the phone for two minutes trying to shut her register down for a break. She was very unfriendly. She didn't even ask if I found everything alright. On top of that she quickly handed over my receipt and just said in monotone, "There you go." She didn't even hand me my bags so I had to reach for them, and didn't even say the most important thing...."Have a nice/great day. Thank you." This is a "Get in and get out" type of Michaels. I don't understand all the complaints people had here... I guess it's because I didn't have to get anything framed.... We, however (ironically) did end up buying two frames here... Pretty good quality, just wish the price wasn't so high. I feel that Michael's sometimes overcharge for their goods. When time permits, I can be pretty crafty. When the holiday season rolls around, that crafty urge hits (regardless of the aforementioned time issue). Michael's is closeby and fits the bill for just about any of your crafty needs! However, I had to laugh out loud while reading Sue F.'s review below! She is so right on the money about the crazy people. Michael's has undergone a significant change recently (in my opinion anyway) and it sort of helps negate the crazies. It used to be so unpleasant coming to this location, I would actually make the hubby do it when he "owed me one"! I have spent more time in lines at Michael's than all other stores I frequent combined!! And the people who worked there were just as on-edge as the clientele. But, the last time I went, I was greeting cheerily immediately upon entering. I had to ask about two items while there and another employee went out of their way to show me where one item was and ask about the other (which surprisingly they did not carry but I appreciated the effort). I hardly had to wait at check out and the checker was super friendly. I couldn't help myself...had to ask about the change in vibe and sure enough, she replied that they had recently undergone a shift in business practice and a ton of new training! Well done, peeps. I'm not a fan of writing reviews but yesterday's experience deserves one. This review is specifically written for Valerie, the one and only sales associate who responded to my need with a sense of care and genuineness. I needed to purchase a bulk order of flowers, more than what any one Michaels store would carry in inventory. This store had a total of 3. I needed 40. I wasn't going to drive around hitting all the stores to grab these flowers. I needed to purchase them online. The problem was that I wasn't able to use my gift cards for the online purchase of these flowers since I had a lot more than two gift cards I wanted to apply to this order. Michaels online storefront only allows up to two gift cards to be applied to any one order. So that's when I went to the Pasadena store and Valerie helped me consolidate my gift cards so that I could make my flower purchase online. The process I admit was a bit lengthy, but I was upfront with what my intention was and Valerie genuinely wanted to help. It was not a smooth experience AT ALL because the female manager running the store last night, the older one with the long wavy hair, was doing all she could to make sure Valerie could NOT help me consolidate the gifts cards into one. She came over because the transaction needed approval, mumbled on and on about something or another to Valerie, shook her head back and forth and back and forth, made comments about how they don't do these transactions, then abruptly VOIDED the whole transaction that Valerie just spent 10 minutes working on, all in front of me, and all while ignoring me, and walked away!!! Valerie stood there shocked not knowing how to respond, as did I. Who in management in their right mind made the insane decision to make her manager is beyond me. I work in retail and this type of customer relations would not fly. Bring on new management, preferably one that the associates don't fear please. Ultimately I was able to purchase my flowers no problem with the gift cards Valerie helped consolidate for me. Thank you so much Valerie for your patience and good-humored nature! I don't necessarily love craft stores, though I love crafts and baking. Art stores just a fml vibe... from the people walking around to the employees. However, this one had employees that were helpful and offered assistance, really casual and cool, idk how they're not broken down by all the pestering old ladies. it's a small store, they might not have exactly what you need, but they have basics and a random mix of other things, Good cake things, fake flowers section (no feathers btw!) frames upstairs... I went on a day when the customers were sooo irritating, even to me as a bystander. One lady making 2 guys assist her with buying stuff for her cake, and making snide comments when they didn't have / haven't invented something she thinks she needs. Poor guys. And the poor register guy, getting yelled at by an older lady, who, with an evil smile, was making a display of asking where the manager was, and when she was told she was on break, demanded the girl who came to assist the guy act as manager (all while holding up the line, and there's only 2 check outs). Of course she was trying to use a no-good coupon or return something blah blah. and I heard another lady, insist that her $17 thing was actually $2 because she "got it from under that sign" which normal people know means nothing, things are misplaced by customers all the time. I'm really sure she just made the claim to see how much she could get off. ugh, so there are strangely more irritating customers, and I'd totally understand if the employees were a bit more than tired and snappy, but they were cool in a I'm-tired-but-what-are-you-gonna-do type way, props to those guys man. idk how they do it. read more

It is with some shame that I admit that I've been to most of the Michael's in the Los Angeles area...and this, to me, is the best one. After wanting to tip over a shelf at the Hawthorne location and leaving a half-full basket in the aisle after being overwhelmed by the line at the Santa Monica location, this wins. They have a big selection of various arts & crafts items that you may need. I think bigger than a few other Michaels I've been to. They also have good sales from time to time. Last time I was there, they were having a sale on all the beads (everything was 50% off)! Needless to say, I def grabbed some beads for some DIY bracelets. ;) My only issues with this particular location is parking and the checkout area. Parking can be a little ehh from time to time. And the checkout line can be confusing sometimes as well. They have a section where everyone lines up and waits to be called to the next cashier, but it's kind of hidden if you're walking up from certain parts of the store. I remember the first time I visited this Michaels, I almost cut everyone waiting in line because I didn't automatically see the little area where you line up. Oops! Overall though, I like coming to this location because I like their selection and most of the workers are nice and helpful. read more

I'd like to start off with the positives about this location, it has ample parking which is nice, and the women at the cash registers were nice. I saw a couple of Associates that looked happy to help customers. However the two associates I had an encounter with seemed extremely bothered and impatient. The guy with glasses at the framing department was very impatient and expecting us to know exactly what we wanted. He had a knack for throwing the stacks of Matte on the counter telling us to look at them and tell him what we want which I found pretty rude cause that's part of the job and I was expecting more of a helpful mindset to be honest? And he just seemed irritated stuck on the fact that all Michaels carry the same products when he was just being impatient and irritated with us not using the proper terms and needing assistance with it. I get that the heat is killer and we all are going through it at the moment but this experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. The other encounter was just bad attitude which I didn't like but at that point we just decided to go to the Michaels in Arcadia and take a hint. This Michaels always leaves me regretting that I came in the first place =( Had a horrible experience with the lovely (./end sarcasm) people in the framing department a few months ago. Todays trip... well it was another regretful endevour :( I went in for a piece of cardstock and a printed paper with a birthday theme and possibly some valentines paper. The staff wasn't very friendly or knowledgeable, which I am not incredibly upset about, but for someone asking where certain items might be, I would hope you would have an answer other than, "I don't know." Even a simple, "let me ask," would be awesome... but nothing. In the end, I was able to get what I needed, but it was a more tedious experience than I really had intended. Would I go back? Nope. Still a good place for us non-crafty folks. I find myself going to Michael's more often than I used to...If you're not a crafty person like myself, Michaels' can still be a really useful store. Here are some of the reasons a trip to Michael's may be worth a visit. -Storage/photo boxes about $2-3 bucks (good for organizing or just to put junk you don't know what to do with). -Cutesy/unique-ish $1-2 items for those obligatory holiday office gifts you buy coworkers. Beats what you find in the bargain bin at Target. -Fake flowers for Day of the Dead crowns/your house. $1-3 bucks...also you can find last season's flowers on clearance. -Inexpensive frames for pics/diplomas/wedding gifts. The layout of this store is not the best. There are a lot of twists and turns and smaller aisles with an upstairs portion that I haven't gone to just because it's a hassle if you have a cart. In general, I would not recommend Michael's framing services. I spent about a c-note to have them frame an old Warhol poster and after about three months, the frame started to come apart on the wall. I tried to take it back but it was beyond the return date. If you need something framed and feel like you can do it yourself, you can find a variety of frames at Ikea. read more

This branch is much smaller and a bit dirtier than other ones that I've been to, but it is the one I've been patronizing since the one in Rosemead closed so long ago. I don't know if it's just me, but the parking situation here is getting worse and worse. Plus, the crafty don't seem to know how to maneuver a vehicle sometimes... I try to park on the street when I can. Inside, some entire shelf areas are empty at times, and things seem to be a bit disorganized. However, they are quite a bargain at times with certain things, which is why I keep coming. The coupons (now mobile!) help, too. It can get pretty crowded at times, with mothers and their wailing children, kids who block the aisles while playing after school, and older folks who monopolize the staff when you just need a can of spray paint to be unlocked. Generally, the cashiers are pretty friendly, so at least there's that. read more

I've come here a few times for work supplies, mostly because it's the closes location to work. Last Thursday, I went it to purchase a few frames. The frames I was looking for weren't on the floor, so I went to the counter to ask an employee if the had any in stock. The employee was helping someone, so I waited. It took her a while to acknowledge me. I told her that I wanted to see if they had stock in the back. At first she said, it's whatever is on the floor, but then said there should be more in the back. But that was it. She went back to helping her customer, but never call d for help. I assumed she would help me when she was done. Well that time wasn't coming anytime soon. I continued to wait because I really needed those frames. Eventually, another staff member seemed to be leaving the area and noticed me standing there. He asked me if I was helped, I told him what I needed and he went to check on the stock. Unfortunately, they didn't have the frames I needed. Ultimately, the bad rating goes towards the bad service. I understand that she was busy, but there were a lot of things she could have done to provide a better service for the company she works for. read more
