I love this shop so much! I live in South Pasadena and always drive past it on my daily commute, so I was excited to finally check it out on my day off. The ambiance is so adorable and eclectic, you can definitely tell the owner + staff put a lot of love into this place. Highly curated and thoughtful items. Love Marz, I've been coming here for decades, way back from the Fair Oaks days! Always wonderful and joyful staff members. I remember Joey from years past and his amazing jewelry, and now Sien and her bright and cheerful disposition and lovely jewelry on display. I bought a candle and irreverent match book as a gift (to myself :) It's a delightful shop for all ages and a diverse inventory for any budget. The woman in line next to me was getting decor for her teens room, edgy but not scary. I also enjoy how there are 3 boutiques connected on the inside and bought shoes next door at Rue de Mimo, and browsed Camille's.... Will save for another Yelp those adventures! read more

My initial trip to the soda fountain on the corner didn't go as planned, but I did serendipitously stumble upon this wonderful store with an array of goods. The name caught my eye since that was my cousin's nickname. I had to go inside and browse. I managed to find Sonny Angel for a fair price. The stores near me tend to mark up the collectible figurines. I'm happy to report that I have no dupes and my twin sister loved the ones I gave her. By far my favorite store in Pasadena. There are a lot of gift shops on Mission Street. And this particular one, along with the other shops in the immediate area are, unfortunately, open for very short hours: almost every store closes at five...or earlier. As well as being closed on Monday and Tuesday. On the other hand, as far as gift shops in the area go, it's a nice one. There are plenty of interesting books for collectors of the strange and unusual (a number of natural history books caught my eyes), jewelry, body products, stationary (and some very clever flat pens to keep in your bag.), candles and more. While I was there I was not shopping for any particular person, so I didn't actually buy anything. But there were certainly enough items there that I could imagine returning in the near future. The staff behind the counter were pleasant and greeted me when I entered the store. Again, there are a LOT of gift shops in this area of South Pasadena and while this is one of the nicer ones, I have seen most of its inventory elsewhere. And the short hours does make it less convenient than stores in my own neighborhood (East Hollywood). So, maybe not a destination spot, but worth checking out if you're in the area before five, Wednesday to Sunday. read more

OMG - this is the cutest, most amusing store! Great for Christmas or birthday gifts - or just cute things for yourself or your pets! Call for hours Mon & Tues - they may be open for those days pre-Christmas. Fantastic Xmas ornaments. Plus, the 100-year-old Fair Oaks Pharmacy soda fountain is also right next door, and Gus's classic Southern BBQ is right across the street on Fair Oaks. This shop is so cool. I don't like that Yelp doesn't have a category that really fits Marz. There are some antiques, but there is more new merchandise than old. It is a wonderful place to find gifts, but not a flower shop (why does Yelp only have "flowers and gifts"--ok, I'm being anal retentive, I know, but c'mon yelp, get more categories.) I guess I'd label Marz: Unique and Vintage Gifts. What happened to my favorite gift shop??? Marz was my go-to place for unique, cool and artsy gifts but lately the merchandise is really random, some of it verging on "grandma". And the jewelry selection was wonderful...now it's just cheap stuff from China. I used to drive by this place just to check out the creative window display...not anymore! Inside's gotten worse too. It looks like the some of the displays haven't been changed since the last time I was in (4 months ago) and merchandise is spread out all over the place. Shouldn't all the kitchen stuff be in one section? The staff are friendly and helpful as always but I miss the way it used to be. read more

I happened upon this little shop late in the afternoon yesterday afternoon - 4:50 to be exact. I spotted something perfect for Mother's Day and peeked my head i the door. Clearly annoyed - the salesperson informed me they were closing soon. I asked if I could make a purchase and she be-grudgingly allowed me - making a show of locking me in and turning the "closed" sign in plain view. While I honestly loved the store and the could have easily spent a ton of money there - I was so frantic to get out of her way I made my small purchase and left. You know... after several reviews of S.Pasadena's shops...I have to say, they've captured my heart. Marz is no different. Marz is a vintage-esque boutique gift shop for the curious and the curiouser. =) Interestingly enough, Marz directly connects with another store and Camille - leaving an easy path way to move between stores. What a fabulous idea! So after perusing through some journals and books (e.g. "Worst Case Scenario - Break Up Book - hehe ... like how to deal with a tatoo of your ex's name! =P), I meandered over to the cards and jewelry section..oh and the toys section. They have Futurama dolls! How cool is that? It's like this store took pop culture art, squeezed it through a blender and mixed it with a dash of retro vintage. And viola! You have Marz. =) I didn't buy anything since I was just biking through the neighborhood. But next time I'm around, I'm sure to stop by here to see what new oddities Marz may hold. =) read more

Lovely local owned shop recommended by Amy at Society of the Spectacle on York. It is a treasure trove of beautiful, thoughtful gifts including cards (letterpress which are favorites), books, jewelry, candles, and other presents. I purchased a necklace and a small Ganesh figurine which also resonated with one of the staff as she was wearing a lovely necklace adorned with Ganesh's likeness. This boutique is the cutest lil place east of west. Hehehehehe. They have some way cool books and out of the ordinary gifts, cards and gift wrapping/bags. I go mainly for the Naked Bee and Mistral body products. Naked Bee makes this bomb ass body lotion in a Sandalwood scent to die for! Marz is the only shop I've been able to find it at. The sales lady is very friendly and will do her best to assist you in gift shopping. Marz is really close to the corner of Fair Oaks, which is home to Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain. If you haven't been to that soda fountain, you're missing out. So I suggest you go to Marz, then off for an ice cream down the corner. Yummers! read more

I love the decor in this store. I always visit this store as well as the two clothing stores next door when I'm in this area. I feel a little bad for leaving a one-star review but I agree that not all the items are as unique in this store. Today I bought a scarf that was priced $130, which I was okay with thinking I was getting something unique enough. The disappointment came when I got home and realized that was not the case. The same scarf can be purchased on Amazon for less than half the price. Sure enough, I'd like to return the scarf to Marz, but of course I see the receipt says they will only take store credit. I understand it's not easy to maintain small businesses, but the mark-up is simply outrageous. Customer service is okay. I wouldn't say they are super warm to new customers. Sorry, but will not be purchasing at the store again. read more

Marz is one of my favorite stores to go gift shopping in and I can't help but get something for myself while I'm there. During the holidays it's my first stop! They have these socks that are my absolute favorite... I get so many compliments when I wear them. If you live near by or you're visiting the area it's a must... truly a lovely store! Always inspiring! I love wandering this store - such an eclectic selection and the owner's knack for displays and merchandising is stunning. I almost always find something for someone when I go in (yeah, that someone is often me). eh. 3 stars because although it was really cute, everything was just so expensive. for example, it is february 6th today, and their calendars were 50% off... but that made them $10. What. What. Whaaaat?! Hahaha. Marz is a cute shop, it's just really high end and it has a bunch of random items. cute items, but i think because everything is from local venders, things just cost more. cards are around $5, there were cute post it tabs that were $6.50, so those are prices you can expect here. but it is a very cute shop, and everything is laid out pretty cutely! read more
