I've been here a couple of times over the years. My sister and brother-in-law, who both went to Caltech and are huge board game geeks, recommended it. A few weeks ago I was looking to get some games to play with my family. My sister gave me 3 recommendations (Ito, Things in Rings, Hot Streak). I walked in and, after taking a few rounds through the densely stocked rows and shelves, and, not finding any of them, asked for help. They had two of the games so I got them. We've played Things with Rings (basically figuring out Venn diagram categories) several times at family game night and are starting to get the hang of it. It's a large shop (especially for games and figurines), and they host events too. Definitely a fun place to browse and get new games. read more

I've been coming here to play board games since it was still called Game Empire. They later changed owner and converted to Odyssey Games, but for the most part, everything feels the same. They have a wide selection of games available to play on-site, and if you end up liking one, you can also purchase it. There's no charge just to sit down and play, which makes it a great place to hang out with friends and enjoy board games together. The staff are very friendly and knowledgeable, and they carry a solid variety of games. If you want more privacy, they also have a second floor that you can reserve for game nights. They have parking at the back and street parking. I never had a problem parking here. Overall, this is a great spot to hang out, play games, and even meet new people. They also sell snacks and drinks, so you can stay awhile. I'd definitely recommend it if you're into board games or just looking for a fun, low-pressure place to spend some time. read more

We love Odyssey Games! My son is a huge MTG fan/player so I always stop by anytime I'm shopping for gifts for him or if I'm looking for unique board game ideas for the fam. I'm always so impressed by how massive the store is - you wouldn't know it from the outside. They have tons of selection of games and accessories, as well as figurine kits and tools/paint etc. They have a large section of Warhammer items (another of my son's faves). They have a lot of MTG packs and a decent sized case of specialty MTG cards as well as a "dollar binder" of other select MTG cards that my son loved browsing through. And I just love the way the store is decorated - it's such a vibe!! Total fantasy immersion to get you in the gaming mood. They have a massive play area in the back where you can privately game with your own group - or attend one of their many events or tournaments. There's a calendar up on the wall near the play area that lists the current month's events - there's always something fun going on! Staff are enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and so welcoming. Prices are decent for the area - pretty much as you'd expect. Parking is free - there's a (very) small/tight lot behind the store but lots of free street parking in the surrounding area and it's very walkable and handicap accessible. read more

I came in person a month and a half ago to make a reservation for a room upstairs. They said they couldn't take the reservation because it hasnt been created yet. I called a few weeks later and was able to make the reservation and paid for it too. I explained why I needed the confirmation from a previous incident that happened a year ago. (Booked, charged, checked-in, we werent on the books). They definitely got us on the books this time and we were able to get our room and snacks that came with it. Parking is a little difficult on the weekends but read the signs. Some say except for saturdays and Sundays and some say except for Sundays. I was introduced to the Flip 7 card game through an event. It was so much fun. I had to return to Odyssey Games (OG) in Pasadena and buy the game. I was lucky to get a parking spot in the back of this shop. It was good for 30 minutes only. That was plenty of time for me. Otherwise, there are street parking on Allen Ave. Please do read the street signs. Besides Flip 7, I also wanted to buy Patchwork, but they didn't have it. Staff was friendly, nice, and helpful. I quickly paid for the Flip 7 game @ $9.99. Price wasn't too bad compared to online stores. It may have been $1 or $2 difference. I rather support physical businesses that are inspiring fun for all. OG is a two story building. Downstairs is where all the games and other merchandises are located for purchase. Upstairs is primarily the gaming area where all the fun takes place. I highly recommend this place if you're crazy about board games and more. It's a great spot to meet new people and create connections. Thank you OG for bringing the OG fun!! read more

Was looking for board games that they don't normally sell at the regular stores like Target, Walmart and even Amazon. Searched online and found this game store. Was a bit of a drive but definitely worth to check it out. There is private parking lot in the back. Half the store was filled with tables where you can bring your own games and they also had games available for you to try and play. There are some very interesting games available as well as trading cards. Store associate was friendly and quick to assist. You can also sell them your used games although it depends on the game title and popularity. Will definitely check this place out next time I'm looking for more games. read more

I'd give this sketch-cave negative stars if I could. just spent almost $200 on games at this store and two were "pre owned" open expansions. both of those boxes were empty. upon calling them, I was not only told no refunds, but blamed for not checking the boxes more thoroughly, when I was carrying 7 fucking boardgame boxes at the time. she told me "there was a sign encouraging people to check contents" no such sign existed, nor were we told anything upon check out. the employee also did not open the boxes to check for us, knowing this was an issue. she also told me when I called that they do not accept returns of any kind under any circumstances. there were no signs that said this anywhere in the store. WHICH IS ILLEGAL BY the way :) also, none of the fucking games are priced. predatory as hell. bonus!!! years ago I was contacted by one of their employees about comissioning art "for consignment" to hang in Odyssey games. he offered me no money and had to be pressured to draw up a contract about terms at all. listen, i love the store. i love the atmosphere. But for the love of god, im so over the management. The bathrooms are always on the fritz, the back room is groady, the flooring is an absolute hazard, the chairs are held together by duct tape, and i have now seen 2 mice. I like mice. they're cute. outside. climbing trees. NOT climbing displays and decorations. honestly, i would pay 5 for a card table and 10 for a war table if it meant better quality. as of right now, i don't really see a point in playing here anymore when i can get a better experience in a backyard or garage. Odyssey Games is a good for its purpose - gathering people to play games and have a good time. There are a lot of tables and a lot of chairs. Some chairs need to be replaced. The padding is torn and/or stuffing is coming out. My main complaint here is the stench. Body odor is underlying the entire place. You can smell it as soon as you enter the lobby, and it's worse the closer you get to the bathrooms. They use a good amount of AC, which helps, but I can't stand it. I don't want to come back for this reason. It made me uncomfortable. read more

Super disappointed after being super excited. Moved to the area a few months ago and the guys were super chill even when I just bought some puzzles. Went to buy a precon that I didn't see on the shelf. The old guy (the owner???) didn't even offer to look into it and just hit me with some weird canned line when I said never mind. I must walk my review back about the bathroom - the past couple of weeks, it's stank in there. Last night, I went to use the facilities to wash my hands, and it smelled like vomit. Pee-you (holds nose)! There was no vomit to be seen and the one restroom seemed clean enough, but the smelliness could easily be remedied with a room freshener spray. I heard about Odyssey Games when my friend suggested it as a summer activity to hide from the heat. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and there were plenty of games to choose from, lots of open tables and seating, and lots of free street parking nearby. The selection of games ranges from card games to traditional board games- and they have a variety for all ages and # of players. All you need is to exchange your ID to borrow a game! The air conditioning isn't super cold but it gets the job done. There's one gender neutral restroom. They don't sell food or drinks here. read more

This place is a treasure trove of board games, action figures and trading cards. Whatever it is that you are looking for in that category, it can probably be found in here or ordered to be shipped. The place also has impressive decor, a very nice layout and an area in the back where games can go and test some of the games to decide whether they want to buy them or not. Have been coming here for years. The new remodel on the back of the store helped make more game space. Also helps air out the store smell and heat don't get trapped as easily as it used to. They added some new chairs and reorganized terrain boxes. Only come here with friends and the customer service is good. Yes one of the bathrooms really did stink for some reason but there are three in total so just avoid that one. Definitely the stores responsibility to clean it though. read more

Just came in briefly before heading back home to NorCal, but we were greeted warmly as we came and went. The store had a great selection of board games. The play tables had NICE chairs! Sadly they did not have the new game release I was looking for, but great job with the store interior layout and selection of new and used board games. Only grip would be the "exterior facade needs some work" (comment by my wife as we arrived) though but not far from par for most hobby game shops. I Had purchased a Warhammer 40K model and unfortunately it had a manufacturer error of a duplicate sprue! I reached out to GW and was recommended to contact location I had purchased. Robert was extremely helpful, professional and kept me in the loop of the replacement process. I picked up the replacement and now I can begin building/Painting and eventually playing with this bad boy! Came here with some friends to look for some trading cards for fun. They had a ton of One Piece booster boxes which was a nice surprise because they were sold out in some of the other stores we checked out! The guy behind the counter was nice to talk to as well, he put our friend's name down for an upcoming Lorcana release and was patient with us when we were deciding on what to get! Odyssey Games is a great space for board game enthusiasts, regardless of how involved you are in the hobby. They have a great selection of games in stock, although it does lean heavy on the strategy games. Still plenty of solo, two player only, and party games. Lots of options for TTRPG enthusiasts as well - I was amazed at the miniature selection. While the games are priced slightly higher than online stores, it's important to support your friendly local game store (and save on any shipping costs that may apply). The staff were very friendly - they helped me look up a game I've been searching for and we unfortunately determined it's been out of print for a while but hey, at least we tried. I had to make an account just to talk about the two younger people working the counter and register usually on weekends. Whoever hired them needs to have a long talk with both of them about not being on their cellphones the entire time and actually acknowledging when a customer is standing at the counter. And if you're not being ignored they're just outright rude when you try to ask a question. Won't even look at you and mumble responses to the point you need to ask them to repeat themselves which just makes them roll their eyes. I make sure to tell anyone who is interested in anything related to trading card games or tabletop games to go literally anywhere else because until those kids are gone this store does not deserve a dime. Who would want to pay money to a store that actively hates their customers? On top of the children working the counter being rude and unhelpful, the store as a whole is filthy and smells like sewage. Maybe if you get rid of the two employees who obviously don't want to be there you can buy a broom or mop and clean the floors a little. Save your money and either go to geeky teas in Burbank or the game cellar in San Gabriel. read more

Out of the ashes of The Game Shop emerged Odyssey Games. The review is based on the current situation in light of the Covid-19 circumstances that prevents this shop from enjoying full swing and being able to host game nights in the large area designated for this. They inherited the stock of the old store, and while reorganization is better than before, the miniatures and paint supplies seem drained and need restocking. Otherwise, it's still a great place for the hobby, and if Dungeons and Dragons is your thing they're a great resource. One quip is pricing. While games are generally MSRP and I support that 100%, some smaller items are priced a $1 above MSRP, which, when combined with the 10.25% sales tax puts a dent in the wallet fast. My wishlist includes rolling the cost back to where everyone is on Nolzur'sMarvelousMiniatures, and have occasional sales to clear out the old stock. Otherwise, having them back will be fantastic for getting out of the house to play games on large tables. My review will likely go up to 4* once things kick into full swing again. read more

My partner and I spent a large amount of money here purchasing multiple games, two of them were previously used expansions for the game Wingspan, upon returning home we found that neither of the expansion had any of the cards, tokens, or other necessary game elements in the boxes, instead having only empty card trays and player boards which are useless without the components of the games. they offered upon being informed only to return half the money we spent on these two items, this is a deeply unethical way to run a store and I suggest anyone not trying to get ripped off spend their game money at literally any other establishment. *Edit* Just learned through someone who knows the owner personally that the owner of this store is a Trump supporter, which explains the unethical business practices. I encourage all proper gamers and nerds to shop elsewhere, no one should give a dime to anyone who supports the orange pedo in chief. Conservatism has no place in gamer spaces. read more

I called ahead to check if they had a specific game in stock (Tainted Grail). Since this store is a solid 45-minute drive from me, I wanted to be absolutely sure before committing to the trip. The gentleman on the phone assured me the game was in stock, so off I went. Upon arrival, I found the game--Tainted Grail--but to my surprise, it wasn't sealed in shrink wrap. This struck me as odd, especially considering the $129 price tag. For comparison, the game is $115 NEW on Amazon. I'm all about supporting local game stores, so I was willing to pay a bit more--if it was actually new. But since the game wasn't shrink-wrapped, I figured I'd better check the contents. And wow... good thing I did! The game was missing ALL the miniatures and several other components required to even play. The only things inside were the rule book and some cards. The box itself was in rough shape and clearly used. I brought this to an employee's attention, and his response? "I'm not the manager, but I'm disappointed because this happens sometimes." What? He then suggested, "Maybe you can find the other pieces in some of the bins," and offered me a discount. First off, the game was unplayable in its current state. Second, why should I, the customer, go treasure hunting for missing components? Naturally, I checked the bins, and it was a total disaster. Literal trash--candy wrappers and all--mixed in with miniatures. The whole store looked like it hadn't seen a proper cleaning in ages. After spending nearly two hours between driving and browsing, I left frustrated and empty-handed. This place clearly has no clue about their inventory and doesn't care about the customer experience. Had I not checked, I could have forked over $130 for a USED, incomplete game--being sold above retail! Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS PLACE. Go to GEEKY TEAS instead! read more

I came here for an eight party board game. Hang with one of the private rooms. We were signed up for seven but didn't get everybody there until like 7:30. The group before us was supposed to be out by 6:30. The manager politely asked them to leave and they didn't listen. So he went upstairs and told them to get out and stop being rude, and they mouth off to him, but they left. He didn't take shit from those unwashed, jerks, and showed good boundaries when clearly they were taking advantage. The pricing is insanely affordable, and he is very knowledgeable. I'm writing this, because just in case those pieces of shit decide to write a bad yelp review, it's evened out. read more
