Collector's Paradise is more or less a classic comic book shop featuring new and backissues, graphic novels, posters, pins, and many other things. The emphasis, though, is primarily new and recent comics. Passing through on a rainy afternoon I was pleased to find its location is near a few important stops in Pasadena, and there's some parking available in the private lot. I was mostly there to check out the selection and see if they specialized in anything unique. Not to say they don't, but it's still a well-stocked store. I was the only customer and enjoyed the classic jazz playing in the background. Pro Tip: Most established comic shops have subscription plans paid annually, or one-time up front. A customer goes through Comic Book Geek to pick their titles and sometimes preferred cover art, and the shop pulls their requests and holds them until the customer picks up the stash. read more

Today was another visit to the best comic book store in LA! I came in on May 24th around 2pm for free comic book day promotion to pick up some graphic novels. Its a great feeling to see people in there shopping for comics and having the same interest. Chloe provided amazing customer service in terms of recommendations and was very knowledgeable!!! Overall, this local comic book store has a pretty great selection of comic books and graphic novels . I wish they had spicier selections though . It would've been cool to see Allison Moon's work for example . Why this place loses two stars, however, is not because of the lack of spicy or counter culture comics and graphic novels it's the lack of chairs ( accessible furniture) in this place. I notified / disclosed to one of the other people that was working I think specifically the manager about my disability and asked for a chair to sit because I had been standing awhile in pain and asked if they had a chair . The right thing to do would've been to offer up his chair. Instead, he looked at me blankly and was like yeah we don't have any chairs. If you have issues standing, I'd recommend bringing your wheelchair, although the floor is not even in certain places so make sure it's a wheelchair that has brakes if you are disabled. Was visiting the area since my son is a "Big Bang Theory" fan, so of course, we had to hit up the comic book spots. Now, they were all no Stewart comic book store but out of all of the ones in the area, this was the best by far. Chill vibes, plenty of comics, easy access, and easy to purchase at the end. Only critiques I would give it would be to have a little more for the other collectors. And what I mean by that, have a couple more action figures, Funko, pops, etc. that will probably bring in some more people for sure. The other thing would bethe music playing in the speakers. Didn't care too much for the rock, but still all in all, nice place to go. There's plenty of parking and easy to find. read more

Nice store if you're looking for current months books, posters or volumes. No older books, graded books and few variants. Biggest problem is the service. The guy running the store has no idea what is in the display case, where things are, how to put boxes together, or if they have any inventory. It truly felt like I was bothering him by asking questions. They ran out of bulk bag boards but offered to upsell me on the ones they had previously put together. I bought $50 of stuff and then was offered bags for a $1. At that point, it just felt like I was getting nickel and dimed. There are just comic stores close that have better inventory and nicer people. read more

The Pasadena Collector's Paradise is much smaller than the Winnetika location that I usually visit. However, that doesn't mean that it doesn't have a lot to offer. It is packed wall to wall with plenty of inventory. And if they don't have what you are looking for, they can call one of the other 2 locations and get you what you need in just a few days. Just don't let the size of this shop fool you. Throw in a very friendly and helpful staff and you are in for a great experience from the second you walk in to when you walk out. My only complaint? It;s in a very small parking lot and shares the area with popular businesses. That means parking can be very very limited. Usually if I am going to come out to this location I do my best to get there around opening to avoid the situation all together. I'd recommend doing the same if you can. read more

To anyone thinking of shopping here, your loyalty would be better given elsewhere. Although the selection of trades and hardcovers is really good, the selection of single issues is below satisfactory. But the worst part of this shop, and every other "Collector's Paradise" is the same, EDWARD the owner. He is by far the worst comic shop owner I have personally encountered. I've been collecting since 1989, and have seen a number of my local comic shops come and go. Today marks the first time that I will give up on what is one of the last decent comic shops in the SGV/Pasadena area. I will no longer shop here, and it is due to the complete lack of respect this owner has for loyal customers. In an age of digital comics and Amazon, I have fully resisted both, and always will. I'm stubborn like that. So Collector's Paradise has been one of my shops since 2011. I've shopped here for everything from $125 Omnibuses, trades, singles issues, and Diamond Select Marvel figures. I have given this store, not just my money, but my loyalty as well. Even during the dark days of COVID, I did not waiver. In fact I bought more than ever, from Collector's Paradise, in those dark times. I was thankful, and they were there. In these last few weeks, since the demise of another local comic shops, my feelings have changed. And it is all on the owner EDWARD. Since the start of Free Comic Book month, he has been at his rudest, and most despicable, since I have shopped there. He has been abrasive to customers and his employees alike. Usually Ed is seldomly seen. But when it comes time to show his face for signing writers and artists, Ed pops up. And I've had enough. It is at not fault of the new employee, who runs the store day to day, but I miss the old guard who were a great buffer zone from Ed. You would figure with shops closing down, and Amazon on the verge of taking over, that Ed would appreciate his customers. But he has behaved the exact opposite. He has taken it for granted, that loyal Comic Factory customers are now going to Collector's, and has even started that he knows this. He now blames customers for his shop not having enough product, especially single issues. But more importantly, he's abrasive and rude about it. Knowing you have more customers doesn't guarantee those customers will stick around. I for one AM NOT. I was a loyal customer once, but now I'm a former customer. Today was my last time stepping into the shop. I recommend not spending your money or giving your loyalty to EDWARD. Travel to Burbank. Travel to Glendale. If you are a new comic book collector, or have a child who's just getting into collecting, DON'T SHOP AT COLLECTOR'S PARADISE. Do better EDWARD. read more

My son an I came in to check out their funko pop collection (found in plenty of pictures from other yelpers). Unfortunately our experience was not great. We arrived to find that they didn't have a nice funko pop collection. Rather maybe like 10-15 pops displayed. I did luckily find the Geisha pop for sale , so I couldn't resist. They do have a huge comic book and graphic novel collection. I mean you can get lost in there for a few hours... The least favorite part of the experience was waiting for the clerk to finish his conversation with a girl (who may have worked there before). I totally understand catching up, but get the customer out really quick and then pick up where you left off in your conversation. Not sure if it's the age, where they don't have the same ideals like "customer is always right" , please the customer, who knows. But it was quite annoying waiting with things in my hand to obviously purchase, and just stare toward the clerk.... as he wrapped up his conversation. read more

First Impressions is always priority must! When being part of a business! Generally you must add customer service. I myself , am a business owner and friends who also are brick & mortars. If the customer is right or even wrong, you must come to an understanding. I have notice how ruthless the owner may be in the comments to justify themselves ,Including how an employee are in the store. I may myself enjoy going around different LCS , and seeing the inventory, and potential of each shop. Entering here and experiencing something I have not in my life!! It was to the point, I wanted to just dropped everything in the transaction and leave of the BS! I was hearing out of this employees mouth. How can you have a "comic" on the sales floor and say I cannot purchase the item, unless I pay for the whole series and I cannot take the book home but prepay?!? And leave the book there??? First off let me say that I am not a very big fan of comic books or anything of that nature but I have lots of friends who are. I walked in here looking for a christmas/thank you gift for a friend that has been helping me out. When I walked in I was greeted by 3 employees. I walked around a bit and was overwhelmed because I didn't know where to start. I walked up to the counter and asked for help. I knew exactly what I was looking for with the help of referrals from a friend and she directed me right to it. She also recommended another comic book compilation which he also loved. All in all the workers were very helpful and friendly. I would recommend this place to the comic book fanatics and anyone who wants to start. Just wanted to say Alex is very helpful and unlike the Comic Book Guy on the Simpsons. I just started getting into comics and he made some good recommendations and totally didn't judge me when I fell for a "kids" comic, MouseGuard (I can't help it the illustrations are just too cute). His descriptions were spot on and made personalized recommendations, "what do you like? then you might like this". I am extremely happy that they have a Graphic Novel Club that you can join. They give you 20% credit on comic books purchased, to be applied towards your next purchase. That incentive keeps people coming back and also lowers the overall price to be competitive with online prices. Yesterday might be the most unwelcome I've ever felt in a comic book store - and that's including one that I went to for years that was like an abusive relationship. Long story short: There were piles of comics when I came in, I saw the back cover with something like "DC Retro" and got curious to see what it was. I didn't see the "DO NOT TOUCH THESE" signs but boy, did the guy admonish me IMMEDIATELY for daring to look at the stack. For one, why were comics out on display 3 days before their release date (and does the distributor know they're doing this?) but two, I see something shiny and interesting I'm going to look at it before I see any signs. I just thought it was very rude and made me feel ignorant and stupid upon coming in. After that, not once did the guy ask my friend and I if we could have help finding anything, nor did he say goodbye on our way out. Honestly I should have just been silent rather than apologizing, and just gone out the door. I won't be back. If you want to keep customers, at the very least don't talk to them as if they're stupid when you're the one breaking the rules. (Oh, and I should add that it was a 5 minute wait to come in because the guy working there was on a break. He was a real winner.) I totally understand that my ignorance in not seeing the sign was partly at fault, but that's no reason to be a jerk to me, and if you're the owner of the store looking to leave an abrasive response like you did to the other 1-stars, don't bother. I was an actual customer, who had tried to stop by your store every time I was in Pasadena, but never again. I wrote a review about another comic shop in Pasadena and gave it a very high rating, as it was my favorite local comic book store. But, that was before I discovered Collector's Paradise. This is now my default comic book store, even though I have to drive here and I can actually walk to the other one. It's a model for what a good comic shop should be and the employees and managers are the most helpful, friendly, and cool people you could want. PROS: * KID-FRIENDLY: They have two racks of "kids comics" that they've separated out from the rest of the stuff, so if you bring your kids with you (like I do), they'll be entertained looking through age-appropriate stuff while you browse through your choices. * CLEANLINESS: It's SUPER CLEAN. Those of you who frequent game and comic shops know this can be a problem. * ORGANIZATION: It's very well-organized, with different racks devoted to different publishers (Marvel, DC, Indepdents, etc.) and also different "themes" (e.g., "Batman," "Justice League," etc.) * FRIENDLY & HELPFUL STAFF: On my first visit to the store after it changed over from the previous owners, I was a little taken aback by how different it looked (in a good way) and made a short comment to the guy behind the counter. It turns out he's the manager and he mentioned they'd taken it over three years ago. He then offered to give me a tour of the store, and immediately showed me the kid section, which also includes a section of "girl" comics, as he noted I had my 3 year-old daughter with me, and he mentioned he also had a daughter. He then went through the rest of the store layout with me to show me how to find whatever I was looking for. I have never in my 30+ years of reading comics been offered a "tour' of a shop. Totally made me feel very comfortable and like they valued my patronage. * PULL-LIST: This is common for most good shops these days. For this place, they know how to do it right. When you buy comics there for the first time, they actually ask if you want to set up a list, and it's all computerized so you can manage it yourself from home, and delete and add comics as you want. They'll even set it up for you. You get a 10% discount if you have a pull list, and also free bags and boards if you want them. Another cool thing with the pull list is that they'll add related titles that are part of cross-book story arcs, which you can then choose to buy or not buy when you pick them up. For example, I collect "Justice League", so they threw in a copy of "Aquaman #15" since it's part of the "Thrones of Atlantis" arc that's running across both titles. That way, you don't miss anything that's part of the storyline. * GRAPHIC NOVEL CLUB: They offer cool program on graphic novels - when you buy one, they add a 20% credit to your account, which you can then use on your next purchase of a graphic novel. * SILVER AGE COMICS: They've got a pretty good selection of old Silver Age comics in the glass case under the front counter, and the inventory changes all the time. It's fun to look in there to see what's new each time. * RELATED PRODUCTS: They have tons of cool things like action figures, art books (comic art), original comic art, toys, etc. * VARIANT COVERS: Most of these are always available for sale if they didn't all get sold-out from the pull-lists, so if you're into this, you can snag some. * SPECIAL EVENTS: They have events all the time with various writers, artists, etc. Several of them are "friends" of the store, and I've picked up signed issues here for cover price, and also met people in the industry and had them sign my stuff that I bought. These are always class-acts, with snacks and special promotions, etc. CONS: * PARKING: This is really the only con I can think of, and it's not *that* bad, but on Wednesdays the lot can get a little full. Seriously, I really don't have any bad things to say about this place. The guys are so friendly and within two weeks of going, they had learned my name and gotten a sense of the kind of stuff I like so they can recommend new things. They are super cool and don't pressure or make you feel bad if you don't buy things they suggest, but just do it because they're passionate about comics without being over-the-top about it. Highly recommended for people who maybe got away from collecting comics and are thinking of diving back in. Ask the guys behind the counter for help, and they can definitely recommend some things for you. Here is the quick and dirty review: 1. Extremely clean store 2. Rediculously knowledgable and helpful staff 3. AMAZING pull list/sub program 4. Graphic Novel club where you earn credit to spend!!! 5. They have an actual working bathroom that customers can use. I always forget about this but it really is a big deal. Now for the specific review: I'll start by saying that the Pasadena area has no shortage of comic shops to choose from sprinkled all along Colorado Blvd. When I moved back from Sherman Oaks last year, I walked into all of them multiple times to get a feel for which store I would eventually settle on. That store ended up being Collector's Paradise for several reasons. What Collector's Paradise offers that is unaparalleled is the way they handle "pull lists." At this store it is a subscription program that is completely interactive and online. You set it up in person, put down a credit card on file, log in on your computer, and can add and drop any title they carry at any time. There are also options to add whole crossover events (Death of the Family, Thrones of Atlantis, etc.) to ensure that you get every issue. It's perfect for making sure you'll get the books you want. This is a must have if you want to get first dibs on variants. The subscription service also gives you reccomendations based off of what you are already reading. Some people dislike this feature, but you never have to buy a book you do not want. And who the hell doesn't like finding out about books you would have otherwised missed? And if you do accidentally buy something you didnt intend to, that staff tries to accomodate you as best they can. I have also received personal responses on Twitter from Ed the owner whenever I have questions like this. Yeah TWITTER! These guys are everywhere. They also send out a weekly email announcing titles and events for that week and let you know about pics of the week, TPB releases, and cool figures for sale. Even if they didn't have such a great subscription service, the Graphic Novel club would have had me stay anyway. Every time you buy a HC or TPB, 20% of the cover price gets added to your store credit. They have a great Wish List program during the Holiday season where you set up a list of must have graphic novels, and they give you little flyers to give to friedns and family shopping for you. I literally earned over $80 worth of store credit just from other people spending their money and using my name from the wish list. Last but not least, the customer service is fantastic. Andy, Alex, and Tony make you feel right at home in the store. You can tell by talking to each of them that they love what they do and they love reading comics. Just as equally, they love sharing comics with customers. They always have great reccommendations up on the wall and if they know what you are currently reading, offer some great titles similar in feel. I had some really good years with these folks but I had to take my business elsewhere. They have a policy of adding books to your pull list that they think you'll like, without any notice to you. Then, if you don't come in soon enough they'll charge you for that stuff, which you never requested. I was away from the store for around 3 months at one point. These folks ran up almost $300 on one of my credit cards for some books I never requested and, others that I specifically asked to be removed from my list. When I raised it with staff and the owner, I got lip service (promised reduction that never happened) but basically a big "Eff you. Too bad." I was pretty surprised given how long I'd been there and how often I usually came in there. It was an easy fix for me. Plenty of other stores around to not have to deal with that crap. UPDATE: I just read the response to my review. This dude is full of crap and wants to make it seem as though "I'm trying to get out of something." I was a customer there for YEARS and my only complaint was being charged for things I never requested, wanted, or read. And even being charged for things I'd said I didn't want! And when I said something about it, this is the kind of crap response I received. We can agree to disagree sir but you and your store suck for doing business that way. You can keep the money I was billed. It was a good while ago but I will call you out about it publicly. And, by the way, that business about what your agreement says is a complete lie. They didn't have the latest stuff - I'm looking for you Lost Dimensions. So, that was disappointing, but for the Marvel and DC lover - they are up to date on their stuff. I got one of the METAL series comics. FUNKOS: A good selection. I am hoping on getting one of the specialty stores one when they come out with it. They will have it here. There is a reason that the comic store (stereotype) character is a thing on The Simpsons, but you won't find that here. No attitude, smugness, arrogance. Ed and his crew are always friendly, helpful and (often even) excited to turn readers on to books the customer might not have known they needed. If they don't have it, they go above and beyond to track it down for you or at the ready to suggest a comparable, or better, replacement. They run a kid-friendly store, but cater to all ages and interests. Looking through their extensive graphic novel library and being able to feel and see the books in your hands, it's all an experience that Amazon can't beat. The prices may not be at Amazon level, but they do offer a 20% graphic novel credit system that can be used towards future purchases which is awesome! The place was packed with dusty toys, comics, gamers, old dogs, and who the hell knows what else? NOW...the store has totally changed. The new store is super clean and organized. This place is a great store for signed items (which they have plenty of) which they don't charge more than cover price. My one suggestion would be if they could take the extra second to open the books so they were signed inside the cover rather than on the cover itself so the autograph doesn't rub off over time! read more

When I went into collectors Paradise for the first time because it's only a 3 minute walk from my work... I was accepted and welcomed kindly without being judged on my lack of knowledge (like some other snobby comic book stores). Andy and his boys are super super friendly, passionate, and helpful with any suggestions. I am happy with all of the titles they reccommended to me. Great comic book shop! This used to be Comic Odyssey but was sold to Ed, who already had a successful store in the SF Valley. Ed, Andy and Anthony have made it into an even better place. They are really friendly and give great personalized service. They have a lot of events like artist and writer signing parties, some of them even with free booze (for those 21 and older, of course!). They have a great website, www.comicsandcards.net, where you can manage your comic "pull list" online. You can subscribe for weekly email updates and get the latest info on special events and sales. This isn't just a business for these guys, it is a calling. They are truly passionate about comic books, know their stuff and are well connected to the industry. It isn't just about making a buck and they don't use questionable tactics to try to poach customers from other comic stores. The customer service, knowledge, selection and clear commitment to the preservation and growth of the comic book industry sets this place apart from other stores. It isn't the largest store, nor does it have the largest selection, but they really take care of you here and it is my favorite comic book store of all time! 4.5 stars. read more

Reasonable prices, well-organized, informed staff who will happily chat with customers about their preferences and recommendations. I especially commend the cashiers who are unfailingly patient with my two kids (ages 4 and 9) who love sifting through the youth comics section and aren't always great at reshelving; no Collector's Paradise employee has ever made them feel less than welcome despite their occasional disruption. read more

I have to thank Yelp for helping my boyfriend and I find a comic bookstore that we can both visit on a regular basis. On Saturday afternoon, I went to my first ever comic bookstore and got a comic book that was not manga related for the first time. Service was great and friendly since the staff recommended us a couple of titles to check out when we could not figure out what to get. By the time we reached towards the cashier to purchase our comic books, my boyfriend got some of his new titles while I got the first issue of Silk because I liked the artistic look plus a Sailor Moon reference was on the first page! I felt like a happy, little kid getting Christmas presents for the first time! Besides the wonderful service Collector's Paradise provided, there was a large selection of comic books to choose from (Marvel, Batman, Superman, Spiderman, Spider-Gwen, Archie, etc.). There were also graphic novels, POP toys, and even $1 comic books to check out. Overall, the Colector's Paradise is a terrific start for comic book newbies like myself. read more

I hit up this place for the first time last night at the big Alyssa Milano/Hacktivist signing event. Everyone was so incredibly organized, helpful and friendly! They provided tons of information online prior to the event and made sure things ran smoothly while I was there. I was browsing through their selection as I waited in line and they have a great mix of comics and cool collectibles. Clearly they're doing something right - they had a store exclusive variant of Hacktivist! The staff is such an important part of a store like this, where you may want new suggestions or advice, and so if I ever need anything at all comic related, I will definitely be returning. read more

What do you expect when walking into a comic book shop? Clerks who think they own the world because of their vast knowledge of comics? The dirty walls and weird stench emanating from what many call "the cave of virgins"? This place is none of those things. I first started coming to this store about a year ago. I usually go in to buy New 52 Graphic Novels, maybe a couple of issues of Marvel stuff here and there, and Star Wars comics. Trust me when I say that the store has quite the big collection. Don't let the exterior fool you, the place is clean, vibrant, well lit, and filled with an amazing selection. They also have this great rewards program that is free, easy to sign up for, and simple to work with. Every time you buy a comic (or graphic novel, or whatever), you get a small percentage of it as store credit. You can either continuously build up the credit, or spend there and start over again. It is a great way to garner up new customers and it certainly keeps me coming back whenever I get the chance. A win-win for both sides, right? The staff are very chill, I don't talk to them often, but whenever I did they were always very helpful and cool to discuss comics with. Don't hesitate to go to them for any questions or suggestions. I just started getting into comics earlier this past summer. Went hunting around to about 5 different shops in my area but did not like any of them. I walk in to Collector's Paradise and was impressed on the variety of comics, neatness of the store and friendliness of the staff! Alex was a big help the first time I was there. He got me signed up for the online subscription service which is easy to use! I brought in one of my friends and got him to become a customer. He was also impressed with this place. Alex and Stephanie are great! They are always happy to answer any questions and make recommendations :) I am very happy and will continue to only purchase my comics at Collector's Paradise.
