I came here for an eight party board game. Hang with one of the private rooms. We were signed up for seven but didn't get everybody there until like 7:30. The group before us was supposed to be out by 6:30. The manager politely asked them to leave and they didn't listen. So he went upstairs and told them to get out and stop being rude, and they mouth off to him, but they left. He didn't take shit from those unwashed, jerks, and showed good boundaries when clearly they were taking advantage. The pricing is insanely affordable, and he is very knowledgeable. My partner and I spent a large amount of money here purchasing multiple games, two of them were previously used expansions for the game Wingspan, upon returning home we found that neither of the expansion had any of the cards, tokens, or other necessary game elements in the boxes, instead having only empty card trays and player boards which are useless without the components of the games. they offered upon being informed only to return half the money we spent on these two items, this is a deeply unethical way to run a store and I suggest anyone not trying to get ripped off spend their game money at literally any other establishment. *Edit* Just learned through someone who knows the owner personally that the owner of this store is a Trump supporter, which explains the unethical business practices. I encourage all proper gamers and nerds to shop elsewhere, no one should give a dime to anyone who supports the orange pedo in chief. Conservatism has no place in gamer spaces. read more

I called ahead to check if they had a specific game in stock (Tainted Grail). Since this store is a solid 45-minute drive from me, I wanted to be absolutely sure before committing to the trip. The gentleman on the phone assured me the game was in stock, so off I went. Upon arrival, I found the game--Tainted Grail--but to my surprise, it wasn't sealed in shrink wrap. This struck me as odd, especially considering the $129 price tag. For comparison, the game is $115 NEW on Amazon. I'm all about supporting local game stores, so I was willing to pay a bit more--if it was actually new. But since the game wasn't shrink-wrapped, I figured I'd better check the contents. And wow... good thing I did! The game was missing ALL the miniatures and several other components required to even play. The only things inside were the rule book and some cards. The box itself was in rough shape and clearly used. I brought this to an employee's attention, and his response? "I'm not the manager, but I'm disappointed because this happens sometimes." What? He then suggested, "Maybe you can find the other pieces in some of the bins," and offered me a discount. First off, the game was unplayable in its current state. Second, why should I, the customer, go treasure hunting for missing components? Naturally, I checked the bins, and it was a total disaster. Literal trash--candy wrappers and all--mixed in with miniatures. The whole store looked like it hadn't seen a proper cleaning in ages. After spending nearly two hours between driving and browsing, I left frustrated and empty-handed. This place clearly has no clue about their inventory and doesn't care about the customer experience. Had I not checked, I could have forked over $130 for a USED, incomplete game--being sold above retail! Do yourself a favor and AVOID THIS PLACE. Go to GEEKY TEAS instead! read more

Strategy games and books along with gaming (trading cards) and dice .... if that's what you're looking for, this place seems to be pretty legit. If you are looking for a new board game to try out, this is the place to come. Literally row after row after row of games to go through. They have some stuff behind cases, didn't check the price point on those, but I'd guess that those items have the heftier price tag. If you're into Warhammer or D & D, check out the pics, I've never played, but what they seem to have on hand is a pretty large selection of that type of stuff. The back upstairs area is a dedicated space to tables that are laid out for people to get their game on. There weren't too many people there when we went through, but I'd guess that they have some pretty large tournament type play with the space they have available. I want to start by saying I have been shopping here through four locations, three owners, and three names. (RIP Game Cave, RIP Game Empire, RIP Chuck). I have a lot of options for game stores but I have often tried to keep my business to the local shops I've been shopping and playing at for years because the community remained more or less the same regardless of who owned it. I came in today on my lunch break to check out the magic singles and picked a playset of cards out because they appeared to be a good deal and I'd been waiting for them to drop. 3 of the cards were priced between 2-3 dollars, one was priced at 11. I set the cards on the counter and asked for a second to see if they had the sleeves I needed. I come back to pay and they've raised the price of the cards to 5.50 each "to match tcgplayer prices." I point out that not only is this a scammy practice, it's also illegal in the state of California to not honor the lowest labeled price. I mentiond this and someone who self-identified as the owner argued that it doesn't apply if the business takes too much of a hit (wild logic). When asked why he puts price tags on the cards he tells me it's to make selling them easier on release weekend. Okay, how much easier did it make things today, a few months after release? The owner then told me that he knows the price tags are an issue because people complain on yelp that the cards are overpriced. (?) So he admits he knows it's a problem but just keeps doing it, my guess is if I'd just picked up the $11 card I wouldn't have gotten a price reduction. Either way he seemed willing to lose a customer of close to 20 years over it. The most insulting part? Coming home and finding that the most expensive version of this card is 2.99 on TCGplayer right now. We never heard back so we decided to come visit them. They had lost my collection of Pokemon cards that I had spent 100 dollars and 5 years to perfect. We never got our cards back. read more

Drove 32 miles to visit this game store and was so excited!! I managed to find street parking and walked to the store and upon entry there was a sales associate sitting in front of a computer. I was within his line of vision and thought for sure he'd ask if I needed anything or if I was looking for anything. I was. I had a whole list of MTG singles I hoped to find and purchase alongside a set booster box for Dominaria United. I figured he'd drop by and ask when he was free. I looked through 3 binders on the counter and a box of MTG singles and 15 minutes later, still nothing. Another sales associate walked right behind me and since it was quiet in the middle of a Tuesday (2pm) I thought he'd ask if he could be of assistance. Nope, he went outside to tell a solicitor to move down the street. I wish he would have assisted the potential customer IN the store than to move a solicitor away in fear he'd drive away customers. I started walking out in hopes someone would ask if I needed assistance. Crickets. So sad. I love my LGS and always support. A simple hello or acknowledgement at least would have earned a sale. read more

I've been coming here for decades and decades when it was game empire. In fact I used to go to the ex- owners' Brothers' Game Empire location in mission Valley/San Diego. That was in the hazard center near the BattleTech center. Both those places are Long gone. I drove by just yesterday and noted the name change to Odyssey game empire? So I guess the old game empire is gone and was saved by new owners? It seems entry is only from the back parking lot during pandemic. I stopped on the street in front to look at the door entry. I didn't have a mask because I was just going to look from the door so... I didn't go in. I did look in from the door and outside walking down the side of the street to the windows. It looks like they have some extensive construction going on plus they had a couple customers walking around. It will be interesting to see what results from the improvements they were working on. I'll definitely come back to check it out and see what I can buy to support the new operation. read more

It's essentially a board game store with tournament style gaming areas for people to come and play games together. They had a decent board game selection and the worker at the front desk was super helpful and gave us game recommendations/snacks. Plenty of street parking at night! read more

I used to go here a long time ago when it was Game Empire and had pretty good memories of the staff here and thought I'd check it out again after moving back to town. Definitely has a large variety of games and staff were initially friendly and eager to help. I wanted to trade in a game and was interested in getting some easy games for my small starter group and was told "Target would be more my speed" ...okay...maybe that was unintentional so I let it slide. They said that only one person could appraise the game so Id have to wait but theyd get back to me but told me I might not get much. Fine, if I could get a buck or two off for my next one I would be decent. I didnt get a call back despite being told I would. When I would call back, the person Id call would just quickly tell me they'd get back to me. After following up 3 times across a month, I finally got told they couldn't give me *anything* for it. The guy didn't apologize for the delay in getting back to me and seemed like he just didn't want to deal with me. I wouldn't have called back if Id gotten the call in the first place though... Look, I get that the game I wanted to trade might not have been flying off the shelves and you're well within your right to say that you can't give me anything for it. My issue is having to call and follow up over a few weeks for that final answer and being treated like Im not wanted. If it's worth nothing, a call back to just let know would have been helpful. I ended up buying a game here because I might as well finish what I started but I probably won't be coming back due to this sort of service. The game was full price here and I would have had a better time getting it from Amazon without the attitude and back and forth. Game Empire was pretty awesome and helped someone I know get credit towards Triopoly of all things towards a game he would like and we both felt like we were valued potential customers. Im pretty disappointed that Odyssey didnt give me the same experience. read more

I have left a positive review in the past, and have been a customer even before new management. And honestly I love the place. My party and I have had negative interactions with one of the employees. I understand he's doing his job, but our game was rudely interrupted and we were spoken to aggressively by the older gentlemen.This interaction took place at around 7:30 on 9/4/24. I'm still going to continue coming to the shop and promote every one to visit, but to be talked to aggressively in the manner we had been was not a fun experience. read more

The new Odyssey games is great! Only been one week and I have come to purchase gear 3 times!!! The staff is friendly and Richard is the man! Talk to him if you need help. They also have a points system, so you even get stuff after spending some money. :) The place is under renovation as of December 2020 and I can't wait to see what it looks like when it's done. I went in to buy some dice for a DND campaign I have going on. I saw some really beautiful stone dice and asked someone behind the counter if I could see them. They looked great and when I asked for a price (there was no sticker) he said "$50 - $100" and put the dice back behind the counter. my Fiancee asked me if we got to choose the price. I waited around a little longer to see if anyone else would show up behind the counter to ask them but after waiting 5-10 mins I went back up and asked him if I could get the price for the dice. His coworker looked confused and asked if he just gave me the price on those dice and he said "yes! why don't you go help them" Well I didn't get the price I got a very vague $50-$100 range. She scanned the dice and said "$120". Now wait a minute you had a $50 range and you were still wrong! The dice were really cool and I may have still purchased them if I didn't have to pull teeth just to get a price. The fact that he told his coworker he just gave me a price just added insult to injury and made me feel pretty disrespected. After talking to some friends they let me know they've had similar weird experiences at this store over the years. Its a shame because the store was full of people playing games and seemed like a cool place to hangout, I just don't think I could shop there. read more

Overall, in terms of gaming space it's spacious but there's a consistent issue of war gaming tables never being properly organized. So when you end up going there's clusters of tables and it being so cramped that it's hard for you to actually walk from the front and the back or finding a table. Another gripe is the floor toward the back is falling apart, so there's a lot of uneven floor when you're gaming. Another issue is the fact if you use the back two restrooms the lights almost never work even when you do what the signs ask to have the lights on. read more

store currently has about 3 times as many tables as shown in the picture. when full, there is almost no way to move around- aisleways are mostly blocked. seriously not up to any code. also, noise level is horrific. there are always a few individuals who are incredibly loud and rude. they do not respond to being asked nicely to tone it down. the management/staff seem oblivious to crowding and noise issues. i have been in the gaming area for 6-8 hours in the evening without ever seeing the single employee present trying to monitor the gaming area. the store was heavenly under the previous owner. the new owner is never present. i have stopped playing there on evening/nights. read more

I have been coming for years and has been a great environment that was enjoyable with friends. Unfortunately the game selection is not the best. If your going there to buy any singles from Pokémon to magic the gathering it's low. If not they up the price 2x of what TCG has soDOUBLE CHECK!!! as for boxes of any kind it's cheaper at different LGS stores like core Tcg (tho they don't have singles but packs and boxes at a affordable price) Managment is a whole other thing. I have read other reviews and I can say most of it is true. I won't be able to come again as I heard some incidents happening between owner of the store and people that help the community more! This is my favorite game store! My family used to game here when it was Game Empire. I am so happy that the store is back and better than ever. The people who work here are really nice and they are patient with kids and families. There are now two (2!) pinball games here as well to play. Plus they really have the most amazing game demo tables, including this one with flying monsters and lava beasts- way cool! Picking up Indonesian food across the street from this place and decided to take my son in to check out Pokémon cards. We know they have Pokémon cards because we've bought packs from there. But he's into attack on titan so we thought we'd ask while we're there. I don't know who the old man is at the front counter but he's just overly aggressive when interacting with customers. As soon as we walk through the door this guy is just almost yelling at us to ask him questions. We take a look around and decide to ask him about attack on titan cards. Immediately he yells "No we don't have that!" I'm like 5 feet away and my son is looking very uncomfortable with this old guy almost yelling. We start walking towards the door to leave and this guy starts following us yelling "Is it a game?? what kind of game is it?? A board game or video game?? What is it???" Wait. He told us they don't have it but he doesn't even know what it is. Gotta go. I had to get my son out of there asap or I feel like there would've been a whole lot of self defending/defending my son going on in that store. I seriously felt like this guy was one dice roll away from completely flipping out. Be careful. read more

Had a good time going to a MTG tournament here. The organizers and participants were friendly and courteous. There's a new system with an app to coordinate matches. The tournament ran in a pretty timely fashion (~3 hours for 3 rounds). There's an active gaming community within the store. You can check the event schedule on their website. read more

Odyssey Games is a nice place to get your trading card game fix in. For me, however, I like going here for their wide variety of board games. They have every board game imaginable, and in addition to that, they have a lot of the expansions for the boardgames as well! The store wasn't overly loud even though there was a tournament going on I'm party attributing that to how spacious the entire store is - a trait that most other comparable places don't have. As a word of warning they do not price match, so it probably won't have the lowest price. All in all I enjoyed my experience. read more
