Avoid this store for tournaments. I had a confirmed registration through the Bandai app for their tournament, yet when I arrived 10 minutes early, I was turned away. The store had set an early check-in cutoff that was only announced on their private Discord server, with no notification on the Bandai app where players actually registered. As a result, waitlisted players were let in ahead of those of us with confirmed spots, and we were then told to join a waitlist of 40+ people, despite having already secured our registrations. Several other registered players I knew experienced the same problem. Many of them had driven over 45 minutes with the assumption of a secured spot while arriving before the start time. This is a serious problem. If an event is open to the public and registration is handled through the Bandai app, critical information like check-in deadlines should be communicated through that same platform, not buried in a Discord that not all participants know about or have access to. The way this was handled strongly favors locals and regulars who are already in their circle, which is unfair to outside players who followed the proper registration process. I would not recommend supporting this shop. read more

A wide selection of cards for hobbyists that include Pokémon, Digimon, Magic the Gathering, and One Piece Trading Cards. They host tournaments as well, and have plenty of tables and chairs for casual play. It seems like locals and visitors drop by to check out this spot. The first time we came, we did not receive the best customer service. We were asking for what cards they had available and the person at the counter had short answers and we were ignored no matter how many times we tried to get their attention. The second time we came, it was much friendlier and warm. They shared with us that tournaments for One Piece tournaments happen (at least for now) on Thursdays and Sundays. We are still "shopping" around for an LCS but we will definitely keep them in mind and come to a tournament to check out the community. I like how the shop has an open space feel to it and offer some food and drinks. read more

Do not go to this store for any tournaments. They show favoritism and are unfair to players who properly and successfully register for tournaments through the Bandai app. Even after successfully signing up, when we arrived at the event, they allowed people from the waitlist in instead of prioritizing players who had confirmed spots. I, along with a few other players who successfully registered through the Bandai app, arrived 10 minutes before the tournament started and were told that the cutoff time was 2:50 PM, even though the tournament officially started at 3:00 PM. They claimed this cutoff time was announced on their Discord server. However, no announcements or notifications were made on the Bandai app itself, only on their private Discord server, which not all players are aware of or have access to. It very much shows that this store favors the locals and friends who are in their Discord even though this event was a tournament where it is suppose to be open to everyone. It's very upsetting that they would set a cutoff time 10 minutes before the actual event start time and prioritize waitlisted players over those who had successfully registered beforehand. They then told the successfully registered players to join the waitlist, which already had over 40+ people on it, even though we were the ones who originally secured spots through the Bandai app. Overall, this store seems to be very scummy and wouldn't recommend other players coming here. read more

When I arrived at Dxn for Fast Fridays, the Tuned Class races had already started, so I didn't have a chance to test my cars, however, they were able to fit me in as one of the final competitors. Little did I know, this was not a three strikes and you're out affair. This was a one and done! Both of my cars flew off the track. My Open Class cars fared a little better, but were too slow compared to my competition. I had to figure out what to do to reduce their weight and make them run faster. Saturday's races were part of the Summer Cup series, a five-week contest where the person with the highest scores wins the Summer Cup title. Everyone was fervently working on their cars. Some brought multiple pitboxes of varying colors and raced multiple cars, no doubt a testament to their love for and longtime experience in Mini 4WD racing. It was cool that many of the people there already knew of my reputation as a YouTuber. One guy recognized me and showed me his version of the rear-to-front roller VZ car he made. He learned how to make one through one of my videos. Even the out-of-state man who travelled here every other week for the cup races knew who I was. They seemed impressed that I flew all the way to the West Coast just to race my cars. My best race was Box Stock. I was supposed to win my heat, but my car slowed down in the final lap. My Tuned Class and Open Class cars fared very well in practice against other racers, but coursed out in the actual races. Firefly was definitely competitive, but I was a bit overzealous tuning it for Open Class. I kept looking at it again and again before my race. I just wanted to win one heat while I was here. I decided to amp my motor and lube my rollers, so I borrowed a friend's Voodoo oil for my motor and Dxn oil for my rollers. Powering it on, Firefly sounded like a new car, but now it was too fast for its own good. It was at peak speed and its batteries were not even at full strength! "Your car is too fast," a colleague advised after reviewing the racing video. The moral of the story: When we get too greedy, we can die. It was remarkable to see so many passionate Mini 4WD racers. Many different nationalities of all ages were represented, both men and women. I was especially amazed at the skills of a young Asian female who had some formidable cars. Everyone was very encouraging and not ego-driven. When everyone saw someone doing well, they cheered him or her on. People seemed more interested in seeing the best car win rather than care who was racing. I feel happy and honored to have raced at the mecca of Mini 4WD racing on the West Coast. I can't say enough of how great this shop is!!! The cool neon lights, active players, and fun products drew me in immediately. The community of people who were playing were very friendly, welcoming, and honest. On top of that, the service is the best! Especially to note was the owner Scott who introduced me to the One Piece TCG! He and the other employees were very patient and explained and answered all the questions I had about the game. I love One Piece so much, so it just felt so good to learn from these guys. The prices here on the two boxes I bought were less than the prices online as well! I later learned that DXN's great reputation extended beyond to two of the vendors at Frank and Sons, who recommended me to play at their weekly One Piece TCG tournaments. Indeed, me and my fiance had a blast at our first card game tournament! Everyone is super patient and honest; the games went smoothly; and the rewards were very generous. I frequent this store for tamiya paint and tools. They're prices are just a few more cents higher than the retail price, but they're the only store in the entire city that reliably carries tamiya. Their main focus is mini 4WD and the staff and owners are very knowledgable. This is the best Tamiya Mini4wd shop I have been to in the US or Japan. Some highlights: The community that has grown from this shop is amazing,. Just in the past year, the quality of competition and work put into the cars has grown a lot. There are many racers like myself who raced in the 90s and are getting back into it as well as new racers and kids who are finding out about Mini4wd racing. This shop caters to all of them. Best selection of parts outside of Tamiya Plamodel Factory and Enomoto in Japan. I've been to the shops in Japan and the US, either they have only a few parts or limited quantities of race specific items. Scott carries it all as well as difficult to find parts, occasional lots of vintage parts, etc.. Some shops cater to casual racers and kids, others seroius racers. DXN caters to everyone. If you are just starting out you are welcome to hang out and learn from the owner and racers. If you are looking for advanced techniques, someone around has likely tried it or at least seen it and can give advice. This is the only place in North America where you can race on the 5 lane wood Japan Cup style tracks. So if you're on social media wishing you could run on the same tracks as Japan, this is the place to go. They host a variety of races including one make races where everyone buys the same kit and races it that day. They also host races using the same tracks and layouts that are raced on in Japan. 3 lane tracks, 5 lane tracks, high speed, technical, etc. There are three different classes that are raced: Box Stock(beginner) consisting of just what comes with the kit and alkaline batteries with no modification. Tuned(intermediate) tuned motors and unmodified hop up parts only with rechargeable batteries. Open or Tamiya (Advanced). Same rules as Tamiya Mini4wd rules in Japan. Scott has created a store that is part of the Mini4wd community, not just a place to race. read more

Scott, the proprietor of DXN, is a knowledgeable and friendly guide into the world of Mini4. He's always there to help answer any questions. The shop has a large selection of Mini 4WD cars and parts, probably the most in the Western Hemisphere, no joke. The track is available for use for a fee, with a purchase or by monthly membership. Its layout changes a few times a month so it never gets stale and there's always a new challenge waiting for you. DXN also hosts races that attract racers from all parts of California and even other states. The shops ambience also deserves a shout out. The place has a rustic vibe and a cool vintage look to it. Juxtaposed with its exposed wood beams and brick walls is J-Pop music that can be heard in the background. It's a cool place to unwind after work. For those looking for an activity to do with their kids, this might be a hobby for you and your kid to get into. I hear they have birthday event packages available too. I'm pretty new to mini 4wd, but after spending a couple of months buying parts and kits online, I can't begin to tell you how fortunate you are if you live in the area. They sell EVERYTHING, tools, kits, upgrades, modded Tamiya parts, etc. DxN is the only place around dedicated solely to Tamiya Mini 4wd, and it's not uncommon to find international tourists and visitors spending mad cash. The staff is extremely knowledgeable, and willing to not only give advice, but also demonstrate construction and modifications. I read in a previous post, and I can verify: Scott will try to prevent you from buying something you don't need. As cheap as the parts and kits are, they add up, and Scott will try to steer you in the right direction to not only build a nice racer, but also save money in the process. The tracks are changed regularly (3 & 5 lane), and the amount of time, detail, and care put into each layout is evident. This place really is for beginners and experts alike. Each track is as challenging as you want it to be, depending on how fast you want to go. That is probably the biggest draw to this hobby. It's for everyone. Also, as competition goes, you won't find a nicer more welcoming group of fellow competitors. I'm sure most of the racers here won't tell you every tip they use, but every person I've asked for advice, has been super cool and helpful. Very, very cool vibe that gets ELECTRIC on race day. I wouldn't recommend dxn outpost for any type of sealed product pre-orders. I placed a preorder all the way on march 4th for a case of OP-O4 that didn't release until Sept. 22nd and then didn't even have it for me on release. Plus they took plenty more pre orders at further marked up prices for months afterwards from when mine was placed. Will just be a disappointment to you as it was to me and my kids. read more

Finally mini 4wd comes to L.A.! ...At least within the vicinity of Los Angeles as many SoCal places are around Orange County. Dxn Provisions upon first visit is an very inviting place. We came in on a race day so I can't say (for now) how it is on an average business day. Upon entering there was a large 5 lane track setup on the left hand side with with racers of at least 3 generations of mostly guys (though there were a few ladies working on their cars as well) having a good time. The 3 generations I speak of are kids, teens, and adult. I don't fell so bad now being almost 40 and playing toy race cars with using my son as an excuse. There is plenty of space with lots of tables for racers to work on their cars. I had my family with me which means my wife knows nothing of the hobby and as a spectator standing near the door and not having a place to sit made her loose a little interest in what was going on and her attention drifted towards the decor of the place. Maybe If possible move some of the work area tot ables to the back since there was plenty of room and then add a seating for guests to enjoy he races as spectators or at least have a little viewing area. I mentioned above there was plenty of open space in the back passed the work tables so I am sure that area will be used wisely in the near future. There is also couch with a big TV used o video games and a snack area with some Japanese items next to the counter so it's also a nice little hang out place like the ones you would hint as an after school place kids. ...not a bad idea there. The front counter has a great selection on Tamiya cars, parts and accessories. The staff and owner are not only friendly but also helpful. My son had a little to truck with him because well he's a little boy and he likes cars so he decided to put it on the three lane track but got a little sad it didn't race like other cars so the staff behind the counter let him borrow a car to run on the track. The track layouts are pretty cool and they (both the 3 an 5 lane) change so it's not always the same every visit. I know they just recently opened and still have lots to learn and changes to make to accommodate for guests but I'm glad Dxn is here and I know I'll be coming here more often than not. Kudos to the owner! I only wish they were around back when I was a kid growing up with my "Record Breakers" car back in the late 80s, but at least now I go something else I can bond with my son.
