What a cool little hobby spot for RC cars and trading cards. Came for a bit to watch some friends play one piece card game during a Sunday tournament. Pretty good turnout. Their racetrack is unfortunately closed on Sundays so wasn't able to check it out in action but it looked cool. Solid spot to get your trading cards or play in card tournaments.

I frequent this store for tamiya paint and tools. They're prices are just a few more cents higher than the retail price, but they're the only store in the entire city that reliably carries tamiya. Their main focus is mini 4WD and the staff and owners are very knowledgable. I eventually want to get into mini 4WD when I have the time so its great that theres a store like this in the area.

Best place to hangout and play Digimon! Always has cool drinks and good music as well!

This is the best Tamiya Mini4wd shop I have been to in the US or Japan. Some highlights: The community that has grown from this shop is amazing,. Just in the past year, the quality of competition and work put into the cars has grown a lot. There are many racers like myself who raced in the 90s and are getting back into it as well as new racers and kids who are finding out about Mini4wd racing. This shop caters to all of them. Best selection of parts outside of Tamiya Plamodel Factory and Enomoto in Japan. I've been to the shops in Japan and the US, either they have only a few parts or limited quantities of race specific items. Scott carries it all as well as difficult to find parts, occasional lots of vintage parts, etc.. Some shops cater to casual racers and kids, others seroius racers. DXN caters to everyone. If you are just starting out you are welcome to hang out and learn from the owner and racers. If you are looking for advanced techniques, someone around has likely tried it or at least seen it and can give advice. This is the only place in North America where you can race on the 5 lane wood Japan Cup style tracks. So if you're on social media wishing you could run on the same tracks as Japan, this is the place to go. They host a variety of races including one make races where everyone buys the same kit and races it that day. They also host races using the same tracks and layouts that are raced on in Japan. 3 lane tracks, 5 lane tracks, high speed, technical, etc. There are three different classes that are raced: Box Stock(beginner) consisting of just what comes with the kit and alkaline batteries with no modification. Tuned(intermediate) tuned motors and unmodified hop up parts only with rechargeable batteries. Open or Tamiya (Advanced). Same rules as Tamiya Mini4wd rules in Japan. Scott has created a store that is part of the Mini4wd community, not just a place to race.

Getting ready to drop the cars onto the track for a race!

As a middle-aged father looking for a hobby we could share that didn't involve screens or video games, I'd read a bit about Gunpla and decided to give it a shot. What a find! The owner was incredibly helpful and patient with us, taking the time to understand what we were looking for and guiding us to first sets that were perfect for our skill levels. His enthusiasm was genuine, and it made the whole experience fun and welcoming, never overwhelming for complete beginners like us. The prices are very reasonable, which is a huge plus when you're testing out a new hobby with your kid. We both walked out with our own kits, and I have to say, I'm just as hooked as my son! Building these models has been a surprisingly relaxing and rewarding experience, and I'm already looking forward to tackling more complex builds and refining them. I'm planning to return soon to pick up a few more sets for Christmas gifts and to expand my own collection. If you're looking for a screen-free activity to share with your children or just want to explore the world of Gunpla, I highly recommend stopping by this shop. The passion and knowledge of the owner really make all the difference.

Went to have a painting framed, that I've had since the 90's…read more It was done by a family member and I am quite fond of it. A pretty good reproduction of an original Gauguin that happens to be in a nearby Pasadena art museum. Well, we paid a visit to Hobby Lobby, as we were picking up some things from nearby Whole Foods. The store occupies Sear's old location on Foothill. It's a huge place and designed to get you to walk around for things as signage isn't plentiful or helpful. Shelves are high so unless you are very tall you need to search around, guess they took that cue from Costco, it works if you aren't in a hurry. We were happy to find they had a framing department and also a fabric area, which, since the sad closing of JoAnne's, I was glad to see for the ghost of my mother who enjoyed sewing. I'm focusing on the Framing department and the friendly efficient gentleman in charge of that department, his name is Theo. He was helpful and friendly from the start. Their framing prices are posted as 50% off, which sounded great, but I guess the original prices need to be considered before seeing this as a good deal. Well, we checked on one style which had always been our original style we felt appropriate for this art work. We visited Tahiti a couple of years ago and and saw some Gaugain copies framed in a similar style, it works very well, so we inquired as to cost and estimated the size as we didn't have the painting with us. It was very reasonable compared to the frame shops we have checked over the decades, yes, decades! It was a very fair price, not knowing the quality of the work was something to consider, but Theo was very efficient and knew his products and was very meticulous. We could tell we were in very good hands. We were quoted, less the 50%, a little under $100 before tax. A very fair price. We were given a "finish by date", and 5 days before that date I gave a call to check on status, I was told it would be done in a couple of days. I was surprised and happy to receive a message later that day from Theo that our framing job was finished and available for pick up. We got over there that evening and Though Theo was gone then, a nice young lady got our finished product for us. It looked very nice. She walked us and the painting up to the lone cashier, as that is their policy, and we waited in line to pay. They did open another register as the line was about 6 people deep. I'm not going to get into their company politics, but over all it was a positive experience, especially thanks to Theo and his friendly, knowledgeable service and framing skill. Thanks Theo!

During that time, another customer who seemed like a regular came in and was immediately helped, while I continued waiting. A second employee later came out from the back, walked past me without saying anything, and started working without checking if I needed help. After about 15-16 minutes, I finally asked about a single card I was looking for and got a dismissive response. Located on the corner of Main Street and Garfield Ave, it is a great place to visit while going for a stroll in the heart of downtown Alhambra. Plenty of great eateries and cinemas in the vicinity as well. A free parking garage is conveniently accessible right behind the shop, in addition to street parking. Although the shop is small, they were able to feature hundreds of items without it being overwhelming. As a newbie to the current line of collectibles, Top Canvas serves as a great introduction to the new trend. As I walked in, a young woman politely greeted me and offered me assistance. Upon request, she promptly directed me to the Mofusand plushies and a wall of keychains. She took down the plushies from the shelves, so I could take a good look at all of them. And then, I spotted one very adorable Hello Kitty plushie holding a strawberry which totally makes a great Valentine's Day gift. For less than twenty bucks, I quickly secured my choice and went on to explore the rest of the shop. The average prices range from $9.99 to $29.99, so you can build up your collections without breaking the bank. Top Canvas is a great place for buying gifts on a budget, as they offer so many cute things for under $20. I also purchased 2 Lokiki blind box plushies as gifts. The gift recipient seems to love it, because it's always fun to open up a blind box. She totally adores her Lokiki plushie. Without a doubt, the highlight of my visit is the wall of Mofusand keychains! At $9.99 each, big or small, these are just too darn cute to pass up. I want them all!! Some of the more expensive and fragile collectibles are showcased behind glass. Great for avid collectors!! Tired of shopping on Amazon like me?? Then support your local business and come to Top Canvas. It's so much more fun to go shopping at a brick-and-mortar store where one can actually physically feel and touch what they're buying.
