The store has an awesome vibe, with tournaments going on and lots of people laughing, playing, and having a great time. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Draven was amazing! His knowledge of Magic: The Gathering is next level, and he took the time to teach my son the basics without making him feel overwhelmed. As a parent of a total newbie, I really appreciated that. They also have a great selection of cards, Funko Pops, and collectibles at reasonable prices. It's the kind of place where you go in for one thing and leave already planning your next visit!

Cool collectibles are on sale at their store a few doors down, and here - including backpacks;). I also spied a Monopoly Gamer MarioKart box! Venue is available for reasonable rental rates for parties and tourneys. Just see Troy! A variety of beverages (Keurig for hot and a fridge for cold) are available as well as a ton of sweet and savory snacks (the Grub Chest -freezer- is a frozen tundra though) and there is a convenient microwave. Long blue tables hold everyone's backpacks and water bottles, and it was nice to see people chatting and getting to know each other when not in game. And yes, they have a restroom! Later on that day I called the place to find out if they could accommodate us and they promptly was able to find someone to provide the lesson. Arriving at their location we were greeted right away and they had Alexis help us out. She was beyond nice and extremely patient and so was the gentleman behind the glass case (I wish I had remembered their names). I have previously tried YouTube to learn but without success and Alexis made it so easy that once I got back home, my son and I had an awesome time playing for what we've learned. Alexis had mentioned that we could go back for more lessons for which I'm totally down for that but what I want to point out to all of you reading this is that my overall experience was great and that they by far exceeded my expectations!!!!! We ended up buying the Turtle Team Up bundle and several boosters. They let us stick around and sleeve up our new cards after hours (there was a tournament wrapping up) and we got to hang out and observe the staff's shenanigans. Genuinely funny and generous people! Oh yeah, they had some extra goodies from celebrating a birthday and sent us home with some cookies and treats. Totally unplanned and stumbled on this local gem and we are so happy we did. I could, she said, but with temperatures approaching 100 degrees and the possibility of walking through some seriously uncharming blocks, she suggested that I might not wish to. I walked there anyhow and all was fine. The Last Bookstore is quite a treat, especially if you take the time to head to the second floor. It's on this floor where you'll find a plethora of intriguing artwork as well as a mind-boggling array of used books. What else might you find? A porthole constructed of books, a tunnel constructed of books, and a sitting room where you'll be surrounded by books about infamous murderers. (I might be wrong on that last one, but while I sat in that room, those were the books I saw). There's so many used books up there that I found myself having to move a stack of books just to get to the stack behind it that I wanted to root through. Thousands upon thousands of used books and yes, I did make a purchase. Coming back down to the main floor it was impossible not to notice the concert happening on a big platform in the center of the place. Couches surround the area and for a short while I sat and enjoyed the show. Soon I was asked to move as they were reconfiguring things for a sound bath experience being offered shortly (unlike the concert, the sound bath was not free). So there's a ton of stuff going on here and the place is something to see and experience. I'd not make a special trip here were I not somewhat nearby but if you're in the Arts District, Little Tokyo, or heading to Grand Central Market, you're rather nearby and The Last Bookstore is a great place to explore.
