    Smash tourney in progress
    Karen S.

Enjoyed meeting this community of smash players in this tourney, held at Psycho Turtle PLAY (Collectible's game room, several doors down from the retail store). Brightly lit with 16 gaming stations, livestreamed from stations 1&2. Overhead tv screen streams for players and guests. Commentators have gaming chairs and headsets and are seated behind the owner's work station. (Very cool, Troy - this is a really great space you've created!) Cool collectibles are on sale at their store a few doors down, and here - including backpacks;). I also spied a Monopoly Gamer MarioKart box! Venue is available for reasonable rental rates for parties and tourneys. Just see Troy! A variety of beverages (Keurig for hot and a fridge for cold) are available as well as a ton of sweet and savory snacks (the Grub Chest -freezer- is a frozen tundra though) and there is a convenient microwave. Long blue tables hold everyone's backpacks and water bottles, and it was nice to see people chatting and getting to know each other when not in game. And yes, they have a restroom! (Shout out to the very clean restroom with a bidet, no less!). Visit here, game here, and tourney with Pico Plus So Cal Project M Gamers here! (Shout out to today's hosts: Pico Plus So Cal Project M Gamers & Psycho Turtle Collectibles & Play!)

My kiddo is into Pokemon so we decided to stop by Psycho Turtle. Staff were super friendly and helpful. Kiddo got some pokemon cards and dad got help from the staff since we're a little out of the game it's been a while. Even mom got a treat they have merch from Tokyo Disney resort. Will be coming back. Worth the visit

Turned up to a Pokemon event, only to be turned away at the door because it was a capped event. This would have been fine if they had posted that it was a ticketed event with a cap on the Pokemon event locator, but there was no information. Wasted a lot of my time driving to the store and back for no reason. Disappointing that the information wasn't posted while every other store in the area has clear signup info available on their tournament page. Please improve.

I paid the shop to rent the machine and waited for 2 hours. Then the staff told me "We made a mistake setting this up. We can't give you the scanned info, but leave your cards behind and your email address, and we can send them over. You'll just need to scan this thing we send you." I was uncomfortable leaving my cards behind because they're important to me. But I didn't want to walk away empty-handed. So I decided to trust them and I left my cards behind. I didn't hear anything for 4 days. I had to call them and they said "Oh the employee you were talking to got sick. If you want to pick up your cards you can do that though." I asked "How about scanning my cards?" and they said "We'll message the sick employee and call you back to let you know what he says". I waited 3 more days and they didn't contact me at all. I realized they weren't going to reach out to me to resolve the issue, so I had to drive down to the store to demand my cards back. I don't know who the person running the back of the shop is. Maybe the manager. Maybe the owner. All I knew is that they had context on the whole situation and knew that I had returned to get my cards. They didn't bother to come over to talk to me. They didn't even give me eye contact. They didn't make even a single attempt at improving the situation. Not even an offer for store credit. Not even a sorry. They just shrugged and yelled across the room "machine's broken". Then they went back to puttering around and left another employee to deal with me. This other employee had no context on the situation. All she could do was hand me a cash refund and give me a confused "Sorry...?" I was treated like I was an annoyance. Someone who'd go away eventually if you ignored them. Not a respected customer who just wanted to do business. I'm not mad that the machine was allegedly broken. I'm only slightly mad that the employees aren't trained on how to use the machine. I'm frustrated that I paid for a service and they didn't bother seeing the job through to the end. They didn't communicate when they decided to give up. I trusted them with my personal card collection and they betrayed that trust. I don't even know if I have all my cards back, but I'll never know. Save yourself the stress.

Best of all, the commons were only 25 cents per card! I did not play any games while I was there, but the store was full of players for multiple different games. I also appreciated that the store employees seemed to know some of the players by name, which tells me that they do see the store as a community space rather than just a business. What stood out to me the most though was my interaction with one of the employees named Anthony. He saw that I was picking up Riftbound cards and asked if I wanted him to introduce me to the other Riftbound players present and break the ice. While I declined the offer, I thought that it was a great gesture and yet another example of how this store cares about the community aspect of card games. While this store isn't near me, I can see myself going back soon, both to buy and play.

I brought my son here on a mission for Pokémon cards, and it was a "mission accomplished" situation within five minutes. They had everything he was looking for, plus a few things he didn't know he needed until he saw them. I intended to just be the "banker," but the prices were actually fair enough that I ended up snagging a few cards for my own collection. The staff is super chill and doesn't judge you for being an adult obsessed with shiny cardboard, which is a massive plus. The only catch is the parking, which is basically a mini-quest. You have to drive down a side street, park in the back like you're making a secret hand-off, and then trek around to the front entrance on the main street. It's a bit of a riddle, but honestly, the loot inside is worth the hike. If you want to see your kid happy (and secretly indulge your own nostalgia), this is the spot--just wear your walking shoes for the journey from the car!
