Bad service and poor communication. I've been trying to catalogue my MTG collection lately. I drove 40 min to get to this shop because they have a machine that scans your cards. I paid the shop to rent the machine and waited for 2 hours. Then the staff told me "We made a mistake setting this up. We can't give you the scanned info, but leave your cards behind and your email address, and we can send them over. You'll just need to scan this thing we send you." I was uncomfortable leaving my cards behind because they're important to me. But I didn't want to walk away empty-handed. So I decided to trust them and I left my cards behind. I didn't hear anything for 4 days. I had to call them and they said "Oh the employee you were talking to got sick. If you want to pick up your cards you can do that though." I asked "How about scanning my cards?" and they said "We'll message the sick employee and call you back to let you know what he says". I waited 3 more days and they didn't contact me at all. I realized they weren't going to reach out to me to resolve the issue, so I had to drive down to the store to demand my cards back. I don't know who the person running the back of the shop is. Maybe the manager. Maybe the owner. All I knew is that they had context on the whole situation and knew that I had returned to get my cards. They didn't bother to come over to talk to me. They didn't even give me eye contact. They didn't make even a single attempt at improving the situation. Not even an offer for store credit. Not even a sorry. They just shrugged and yelled across the room "machine's broken". Then they went back to puttering around and left another employee to deal with me. This other employee had no context on the situation. All she could do was hand me a cash refund and give me a confused "Sorry...?" I was treated like I was an annoyance. Someone who'd go away eventually if you ignored them. Not a respected customer who just wanted to do business. I'm not mad that the machine was allegedly broken. I'm only slightly mad that the employees aren't trained on how to use the machine. I'm frustrated that I paid for a service and they didn't bother seeing the job through to the end. They didn't communicate when they decided to give up. I trusted them with my personal card collection and they betrayed that trust. I don't even know if I have all my cards back, but I'll never know. Save yourself the stress. read more

The Guild House has been my LGS since I first stumbled upon them many years ago, while shopping for comic books up the block. They're always super friendly, helpful, and encouraging, and their loyalty points rack up fast. Today I went inside to ask about learning Magic the Gathering, and even tho the shop was busy, they gave me a Welcome Deck and sat with me for 20 minutes to play a demo game. They explained the gameplay mechanics clearly, and helped me understand the game by doing. I purchased a Commander Deck, and plan to go back this weekend to join a play group. Tripled my nerd paint collection in a single (large) purchase. I'm sure there were board games too, I was very focused to the paints and hammers of war. read more

The Guild House has literally everything you can think of/need for your table top games. They have many tables for you and your friends to play those very same games! A large variety of figurines, paints, brushes and tons of extra stuff to add to your campaign. They also have a few adorable cats roaming around the store. As a cat guy I approve. The only thing that will stop me from ever coming back is as soon as I walked into the door (for the very first time) I was instantly assaulted by the stench of cat piss. It was so strong it made my nose burn slightly. Please, for the love of those kitties and your customers, please figure out how to get rid of that stench. Also, there where at least 20 people in the store playing or shopping. How do they not notice that horrible smell?? I'll probably not return again unless the cat piss stench is fixed. read more

I love this place. If you're looking for card games, ttrpg, war games, miniatures, Eurogames, board games, paints, set pieces, whatever, this is the place has it or can get it. But the best thing about the Guild House are the people. The place is so inviting and the people so warm and welcoming it feels like a community center. The knowledge of the people here is astounding. You can hear ancient lore from an old time gamer about days past. You can find a walking encyclopedia with obscure rules and info on your favorite game. The people here, both employees and customers, make you feel like you're walking into a time from the past were people converse, talk, and just enjoy to be around each other. Come in to watch a game, chat, browse, or sit with Chuck and Co. on Sundays learn some tip on how to paint. I love this place. read more

Nerd Out City! I love it! I've been curious checking this place out and finally I did because I got into MTG Commander. Damn! They have everything board games and table top! It's really amazing and you can let your imagination be loose. They have play-in tabletop schedules raging from casual plays to competitive tournaments on their white board. I love how passionate people in here.. I came here for a dragon shield sleeves for my new and only commander deck.. they got every colors everywhere and it's a perfect sleeves for MTG. I end up buying mats, dungeon dices, and a dragon coin for flipping lol. Overall, I love ambiance and to nerd out in general..definitely checking this place again. Really cute and friendly store. They had a huge selection compared to the tabletop stores I'm used to in OC which was great. My friend picked up some D&D stuff and I grabbed Root the board game. They have a point rewards system and between the two of us, we qualified for $5 off our purchase, which we immediately redeemed. We stuck around afterwards and played Pandemic (they have a huge selection of games that you can sample and play in store). The store manager even helped clarify some rules that we were struggling over. Overall, I had a great experience and would definitely come back whenever I'm in the area. Zero stars is too high. I am new to board gaming. Today I was visiting FLGS. This place had a high rating so I was excited. I don't know why it has 4 stars. The images are definitely from its heydays. I get Covid was hard on businesses, but that is not my complaint. This place should not be open to the public. It is like walking into a mildewist basement where the cats have taken over. First, no one greeted us. We were already a little jarred by all the sun damaged games in the front window. There was a table where someone had been creating something, but it was not cleaned up. I love the idea of a game mini workshop, but at your front window and not cleaned up? It looks like the owner lives upstairs and the store is an extension of his living space, not a store. What makes it worse is the place smelled like unclean kitty litter and mildew. There were cats. I am allergic to cats, so this makes being here even worse. I can't even think of buying a game from here, because I would bring cat dander home and my wife is highly allergic. The smell of mildew, cat little and cats makes you want to throw up. My face mask became a hazard, trapping the stench in. My wife came with me and she was so upset I even took her here! She could not stay in the store and walked out almost immediately. She said it reminded her of every negative stereotype you think of when you say board gamer. The locals that were there seems unaffected by any of this. I just could not imagine playing a game here. This place was a runner up to the disgustingness that I remember my grandmothers basement in Chicago being. Even the new games looks like they are old. The lights were dim. I can not recommend this place. I hope the owner focuses on the appearance of the store. I understand the workshopping there, but this place is not inviting. The high ratings must be from the locals who frequent, regularly, because it is not anyplace I would visit again. In the words of Mr. Smith from the Matrix, "it's the smell...the stench..." To the owner, if you read this, I am happy to revisit the store and change this review, if you clean it up a make some major updates. I went to "Shuffle and Cut right after... what a difference! Felt like I showered off the Guild House. If you looking for great FLGS in OC here is my top 3: 1. Shuffle and Cut - Great selections and expansions, clean organized, kick starter editions as well. Nice sales rack. Nice game room, clean bathrooms. 2. Comic Quest - Best selection of games and expansions. Good sales bin. Nice separate areas for gaming and lots of local events for community building. Cool staff. 3. Dice House Games - Great selection, good prices. Some hard to find on shelves games too. I learned about TGH from a once-now-not-friend because the masks he got for him and his kid were really great. So thanks for that at least, Joe. I haven't been there in person--maybe one day, if I'm in and around the area, but I live in Chicago so it won't be soon! Their communication was great and very quick; even when they were closing for a week vacation in April or May they responded just before that week started, and I got my masks within a couple weeks after they reopened. What I loved the most is that they are incredibly well made. The only place I've found that makes them made-to-order with your individual measurements from ear to ear and nose to chin. They're thick, but comfortable, the have some wire or something in the nose to try and keep them tight, and best of all--they tie around the back of the head! The ones that I'd seen that go over your head instead of your ears had to go over the head in full and that was kind of awkward since my head is big. Super durable, you can toss them in the washer but I let them air dry. Since I'm still masking (and will be for quite a while), these work great and I really appreciate the ease of getting them on and off. Anyway, hopefully I will be in the area sometime so maybe I can stop in for a game night or pick up the new hotness, or just say hey to the owners! read more

If you've ever been in charge of small children, you know that the bedtime routine is sacrosanct. It supports the health and development of young brains and it ABSOLUTELY VITAL for the sanity of the grown-ups, who need an hour or two in the evening in which to shower, pay bills, talk to their partner about subjects unrelated to Sesame Street, and fall asleep in front of the television. The trouble is, I'm on business in Southern California for a couple of weeks, and the kids (and my partner) are 2,600 miles and three time zones away. This is an obvious barrier to performing my part in the Brushing of the Teeth, the Reading of the Storybooks, and the Hugging of the Stuffed Cat, and so I've been largely useless in these regards of late. At 4pm California time, I was checking out the Bellflower Car Show (which was really cool!) when I got a call from my partner back east. It was storytime in the eastern time zone, and the Toddler had decided that I was the ONLY person on the entire planet who was qualified to read the picture book version of the classic song "What a Wonderful World" that night. Which is to say, I was the only person in the world qualified to SING "What a Wonderful World" while my partner turned pages, pausing so that the toddler could periodically say "Wha wondafawa!" and/or point out all the birds and bugs in the pictures. Car shows, however, are REALLY NOISY and also full of people and interesting shiny things. This is not conducive to reading picture books, nor for putting small children into a sleepy headspace. Luckily, the car show was right in front of The Guild House. I'd actually stopped into The Guild House the week prior for a Tuesday night D&D Adventurer's League game (Level 5 Half-Elf Bard). They charge $2 a head for table and supplies, which- and I realize this is a divisive issue- is absolutely fair because the storekeepers have gotta make rent somehow and it's not like every player is gonna buy new dice/books every week. I found the staff friendly and , the product selection excellent, and the store itself clean and comfortable. So, throwing myself at the mercy of my nerd brethren, I ducked inside The Guild House, and treated the gamers therein to an impromptu concert. Those who noticed me singing in the corner were very understanding about my situation, but most too wrapped up in their games to care. I even got to show Astrid the Shop Cat- possibly the world's cutest game store employee- to the Toddler, who has asked about the cat every time we've talked since. After saying good night to the toddler, I bought some really funny "Miskatonic University" postcards to send to my nerdy friends back east, and also a cute pin with a plague doctor on it to give to my partner. Thanks, Guild House, for being my nerd base-away-from-home for the last couple of weeks...and for helping m make story time happen! read more

The Guild House is a great little shop for gamers of all kinds. Specializing in board games they have all of the greats featured in the TableTop series organized and clearly labelled. Want to try a game before you buy it? They offer RENTALS of board games as well as in-store demos. How cool is that? Having a party? Rent some popular games and try something new, what a great concept. Not only is the Guild House one of the largest board game dealers I have seen in the area, they also feature a large space for actually playing the games they sell. Two large counter type tables are there for the Wargamers and X-Wing type games and about 5 pretty large tables to play other board games and Magic. The last table is kind of a creative corner where they have classes on making cards and little crafts. The owner Charles can pretty much always be found in the store with a smile and some helpful advice or suggestions on what is fun and exciting. I have gone in there with some pretty vague requests and they have always been able to make some suggestions to suit my need. To help foster the new player community they also offer some leagues for Magic and from what I understand are doing X-Wing on Thursdays. They also have a faithful D&D group that is playing there and the player base just keeps on growing. This place is AMAZING! Wall to wall tabletop stuff, miniatures, games, cards, paint supplies and painting station! You can tell it's family owned and it shows in their great customer service. The crowded us great and they have like 7 or 8 big tables if you want to bring your group to play some games. We were their playing a Gale of Thrones edition of CATAN and all these friendly people would inquire if it was GOT. Super cool and easy going. Let me start by saying this: I will never be purchasing anything from this Guild House ever again. I have been a customer and semi-regular to this guild house for years. All of my board game needs and Magic the Gathering in-store purchases had been from this store. In fact, this store is where I had my first MTG pre-release and DnD game. At the time, I had a great experience, between both the employees and the players there at the time. Any time a friend or colleague would ask about a good place to play magic, chill with some friends over a game, or have a good session of DnD, my first response, without hesitation, would be The Guild House in Bellflower. However, I can no longer say the same, and I would strongly urge you, that unless you want to come here to quickly pick up a board game and head out, not to come here either. Firstly, this game store CHARGES for you to sit at their tables. A full $5 per PERSON to play at a table is OUTRAGEOUS, not to mention it's basically theft. They didn't have this rule before and quite frankly, it's not posted anywhere nor is it made apparent until you sit down. I can easily go to any other board-game, comic, or magic store and sit down for a good game without paying any money at all. If you are paying to sit at a table, you are getting enormously ripped off, it's entirely free at any other place. Secondly, this place isn't exactly clean. The entire store is basically covered in cat fur, so much so that, one look at the carpets tells you the entire story; the floor is barely cleaned if ever. They have 3 cats roaming around (that are absolutely adorable btw), which I would be completely fine with, if they cleaned the damn place. If you have any kind of animals roaming around your store, it HAS to be cleaned regularly, more than any other normal store. Third, while there are some employees that are helpful and friendly, there are a few assholes behind that counter. I have had multiple experiences with terrible service, ranging from arrogant employees questioning my purchase, to giving me sass for asking what the price is. It's a store for Christ's sake, I'll buy whatever the hell I want. There's a long list of other complaints but I'll try not to waste your time, because the other ones are way more specific to mtg card players. I must admit however, I have had some memorable experiences from this place. From playing DnD with a group of friends, to joining a midnight prerelease that I was not prepared for, tired out of my mind from work, getting my ass smoked by the other attendees. While I wish I could recommend this store, it pains me to say, I will no longer be a customer of this establishment and cannot recommend it to anyone in good conscience, especially knowing that they charge people to sit down at their shop. I would urge you to find a different store if you can. I'm in firm belief of putting my wallet where my mouth is, and I can say without any doubt in my mind, I will never again be making another purchase at this store. read more

The guild house is a great place for all your board game/card game/miniature/dnd fixes! The owners Charles and Monica are just amazing peoples. Friendly, inviting and knowledgable. They'll admit if they never heard of a game and they'll admit when they have. You can tell they are definitely passionate about what they do and seek to spread that passion to others. The shop is open seven days a week. -Wednesday and Thursday are Adeventure League D&D from 4-6 and another from 7-9:30. -Friday is Draft night for Magic The Gathering which usually runs until 11 pm. -Saturdays are always different from open game nights to crafting nights. -Finally on Sunday is open board game Day from 2PM-8PM. I've made many new friends, had wonderful experiences and most importantly I've gotten to play many new board games. I tell everyone I meet who is looking for a spot to find new games or even a spot to play at a table to try them out. From card games like Magic The Gathering to gritty war games like Warhammer 40k. I have gotten to play as a jewel merchant making their fortunes, a brave investigator facing eldrich horrors, to becoming a hero in a fantastic realm alongside friends. The Guild House lives up to its name. It is a guild of gamers, adventurers, dreamers, and so much more. And we all have the Guild House to gather at. I've only been to this store twice, but it has become my new favorite game store in So Cal. I live near CSULB and this store is about 15-20 minutes away. Long Beach has some old (and I mean really old) staple game stores, but they all usually have a variety of problems: aloof owners, weird clientele, or they are very specialized to one type of game (Magic, Miniature Games, or D&D). The Guild House does a pretty stellar job in representing all three pillars of gaming. While a little on the small side, I liked the way they display their merchandise and have it organized. Their RPG library is the most limited, but they have plenty of the new stuff (and can special order most anything). They also stock a lot of Kickstarter games and sell them at discount. The owners have kept a very clean store, and there is a large game area in a space next door. This area is not shoved in the back of some dirty storefront, and it is just as clean and bright (lots of windows) as the main store. You can be shopping in your peace without having to move around other people playing games (which I've experienced in other stores). The overall layout is great and there's a bathroom on site for patrons and a cash only snack bar (outside food welcome!). You can usually tell a good game store from the looks of their calendar, and this one appears to be thriving. There are events every day, and plenty of special happenings in each month. The owners will also spotlight various titles on certain days, so there is a lot of exposure for different titles. There is a loyalty program for patrons (10% off after a certain amount of purchases), plus a game rental program so you can try things out at home or when planning a game night. A lot of games are already open and can be played on site for free. The store also features two resident cats: Teddy and Gears. They also buy used games and offer consignment. I was able to offload some old D&D books and was very pleased with what I was offered. The owner was respectful of my time and the price I was looking for and didn't haggle endlessly with me. To sum things up: -Super nice owners (and knowledgeable) -Clean space, warm atmosphere, and friendly clientele -Carry a good stock of every type of game -A couple of great cats Pretty much everything LB stores are lacking. read more

A welcoming, reasonably stocked, relaxed gaming and RPG store... right in Bellflower! There are often tables available for spontaneous gaming, though planned tourneys take precedence. They offer a discount card which gets "punched" when you purchase items... So make sure you don't forget that. When full, the card grants you 10% off a future purchase (check with them on details). I like the selection... I even found some Dropfleet Commander space minis which I have not seen elsewhere. They also offer candy, sodas, etc. for purchase. The absolute best thing, and something you don't see enough of, are the two or three cats that call the store home (we are all here at their sufferance, after all) They are super chill and love when you pet them. 4/5 stars! read more
