To be honest, dear reader, I am not an avid comic book reader! While I do enjoy the superhero movies that come along each year, and I do casually read certain runs, or listen to explanations of certain comics via Comics Explained, I do not keep up with this medium as consistently as I do with Video Games. The only run that I have kept up with on a consistent basis is the Sonic the Hedgehog comics, both the Archie run (slightly before Ian Flynn would take over) and the IDW run as I am a huge fan of Sonic. Due to this, I do like to visit a comic book store every once-in-a-while, and this is my #1 spot! I found out about this nice little spot back in 2006 or 2007 as after learning about the Archie run via the Sonic Mega Collection, I wanted to start reading these comics. I noticed this place from time to time in my family's travels to Bellflower and asked my Mother to take me one day. I stopped going for a long time, not because of any specific negative reason, but just because they stopped selling the Sonic run. Since Sonic is the only comic book that I read, I had no reason to return. I did find out about places like Pulp Fiction, but I found that the customer service was consistently not up to par and eventually stopped going. Last year, during Free Comic Book Day, I wanted to stop by a Comic Book Store in order to pick up some of the free comic books. I first went to Amazing Comics & Cards, but found the selection to be very limited and a similar problem of the customer service being poor. I went here after so long to see if they were participating in Free Comic Book Day, and luckily enough, they were! Going in, it is still majorly organized as I remember way back when, but just now with more Graphic Novels and Manga. One thing that I can always say is the best about this place is the customer service. When I went to Free Comic Book Day, they gave people a list of what was available and crossed out any that were not available, they allowed an individual to get way more comics than the previous store I went to (like 5 comics in comparison to 2 or 3), and when I was conflicted on which comic to get, they just allowed me to have both. Not only this, the main guy at the cash register, I never got his name, but is an older white gentleman that usually wears a cap, is always nice and helpful. I don't remember him from years ago, but immediately from our first interaction, he has the best personality. Easy to talk to and start up a conversation, and leaves a definite positive impression after stepping out of the store. And this isn't just one interaction, I had been going from time to time in 2025, and the attitude was always solid. They never seem to run out of the comics that I am looking for and just generally seem to be great spot hidden away in the Bellflower area. In all, from what I remember back in the mid-to-late 2000s and recently, I give them 5 stars. A great place for comic readers and worthy of being one of my favorite spots to stop by when I am in the mood of purchasing a comic. read more

Its a small place but they have a BIG selection. What i like best about this place is that it sells COMIC BOOKS (along with graphic novels and manga) as opposed to just funko pops. So that's great! Parking is somewhat limited as its on a main street but we're alwsys greeted when we come in. I can usually find whatever i'm reading at the time and some older or different manga too. I think theyre pretty typically priced. Hope they stick around! read more

Okay selection, not as large a selection as similar sized comic book stores. Has way more figurines and POP figures, back issues are difficult to look through and the majority of the space reads chaotic. The staff seemed neutral but not unfriendly. I really really wanted to love this place. I'm huge on supporter of small comic book businesses. What's the bad part? The reviews on here that talk about terrible customer service are sadly true. My husband saw a comic on the wall behind the counter that he was interested in, but was split on. I thought "maybe I can call after we leave and buy it over the phone as a gift". Wrong. Their phone rings and rings (and goes to some nasty message aggressively telling you not to spam call. The voicemail is also full. Their website doesn't work. They have TWO different emails...when I finally got ahold of someone via email AND Instagram they were really rude and dismissive. I wanted to support them, but I ultimately went elsewhere to get what I was looking for. I have worked in customer service almost my whole life. Take customer advice to heart, guys. Never fallows posted hours. LAME cool store but come on can't be randomly closed for no reason

This shop is cool it has a lot of stuff it's neatly organized has a good selection of omnibuses and random figures and such However it also has the worst customer service from the owner. I've chatted with him before he always has an attitude but whatever I let it slide but last week I asked about a book and he made me feel dumb for even asking about it because the book came out on Wednesday and I was there on Friday. He is always ranting about customers not supporting small business comic shops but he makes people feel dumb for not knowing when books come out and has a terrible attitude. If this place had better customer service I'd always be here but I'd rather drive the extra 20 min to go to a better shop. read more

Wow.... Should've read the reviews before coming here. I would think that as a small business, the business owner should be thankful and appreciative of every person who walks through their door. Idk how the owner was raised but, these are simples ways of life that some people struggle with: * don't discriminate, treat everyone the same. Id say, treat your customers as you would your own loved one. Idk.... Maybe this owner isn't kind to her loved ones. But wow... * this point should be obvious: do NOT curse at your customers My friend is black and asian. She found a T-shirt she wanted on a wall. She was talking to the woman owner about the shirt. My friend was holding an umbrella, phone and iced coffee so she asked the woman to take it to the front for her. She calls the male owner, who is probably her husband, over to see what the hub bub was because the woman kept trying to hand the shirt to my friend. But, excuse me, her hands were full and the husband had already warned her at the beginning that if she spilled her drink she'd be responsible. So the husband was taking the shirt to the front when the wife called my friend "A PRIVILEGED BITCH!" because she asked for her to take the shirt to the front! What the actual F! And the husband had a holster on and who knows what was in there. Could be pepper spray, could be a gun, who knows!?!! Once she knew that these two are the owners, my poor friend ran outta there out of fear cuz honestly, you can't assume that people are decent humans. And let me reiterate, both of her hands were full. She wanted to buy the shirt. She couldn't carry it herself because she could've spilled her iced coffee all over everything and then they they REALLY would've been angry! Great comic book shop been coming here for the past couple of months 5-6 and I've always found what I needed the owner is a very nice dude always making jokes and good vibe all around and just this Sunday I went to metropolis and bought a battle beast blind bag and to my surprise I ended up getting the 1:1000 cover and I went back to show them and he was helpful telling me the rarity and the current price for it on the market great shop all around would recommend 10/10 read more

Not too sure if the owner has a personal problem with me or the people I come in with but every time we've been in here the owner glares at us like a hawk. Not sure if it's because we're Mexican or if he's just like this with all new customers but other people came in after us and were treated completely different by the store manager. As a business owner myself I have the humbleness to be thankful for whoever walks through my door and after 3-4 different visits with this store over the course of 5 years nothing has changed and I've gotten the same treatment and glances every single time. They have a good collection and are local but I'd rather drive out to Frank & Sons than deal with this sorry excuse of a business owner. Support someone else who would actually be thankful for the business you bring! By the way this guy has treated me and many other customers I don't think they really need it. I usually go to the comic bug in manhattan beach for my comics and come here every once I a while when I'm in the area, the owner and his girlfriend are always nice but today I was greeted by the biggest nerd wearing a punisher shirt from like 2000 and a mask, this guy came off as a complete jerk and acting like I was trying to rob the joint, anyways the virgin made me completely not welcomed, next time I'll talk to the owner but I'm definitely not spending money here, it's tough because I like supporting comic book shops but this guy takes the take, like the unfriendly with short hair at Geoffrey's comics and look what happened to them, if you want a little friendlier service in this area I would direct to to atomic comics read more

Very sad to say this business isn't a friendly environment for female comic book collectors. I have experienced multiple times at this business a lack of respect from both the owner and his wife. For example I've notice from both times I went in by myself that when I ask a question they look at me as if I'm bothering them but when a male customer appears they act as if they are the most important person in the world. Never felt so discriminated at a comic book store before this place. Lady working there was talking to one of her delivery guys making theft a point, and almost trying to make a hint that they had cameras in the store. Just read other complaints of this behavior and it honestly doesn't surprise me. Quite disappointing, and on top of that they don't update their hours of operation. So If you're not local, and want to explore other comic book stores. Don't consider this one, you might go there when they're closed thinking it was open. Waste of time and gas. read more

This place asked me to leave my bag like they were profiling me. I was going to support this small business until the guy cussed at me on my way out for not accepting their profiling and trying to take my stuff upon entering. I went in today and the owner (?), called me by name asking about why I left a one star review (it's two), and why didn't I mention that they gave me store credit (I did.) I agreed I was upset about the "no refund" policy I couldn't see posted, &" regretted my "impulse" purchase, so I may have let my emotions get the best of me at that time. Since he brought this up in front of customers (instead of pulling me aside, or by e-mail/phone), I agreed to "review" my original post & bump him up to four stars. I've have learned "not" to make impulse purchases, so if I see something I want there, I'll wait 2-3 weeks, AND THEN if I'm still thinking about, I'll go back to purchase it. So thanks for teaching me that, I've saved money and no longer regret impulse buys. This store is good for new comics only, no back stock, good variant stock... one thing I disliked was the fact that you choose a comic off the wall, go to the front to buy and they hand you a different copy then the one you choose. I used to go to this place a lot back when I worked across the street and always had the impression that the owners were cool and impressionable people. However, I came to check the place again after not going for several months and received the worst customer service I've ever gotten EVER. The lady was incredibly rude to me and my friends. Regardless of having a bad day or not her attitude and tone was not okay to talk to any customer that way. We did not provoke her at all for her behavior and her husband did not defend us at all. I just walked out of, what may be the most unfriendly comic store in Southern California. There were ZERO customers when I entered, but not ONE of the employees lifted their heads to even acknowledge me. I had to ask if the employee worked there, so I knew I was asking the "right" person a question. I had a genuine question about a book I was interested in, but this employee gave me the driest most uninterested response possible. I asked the same question with more info hoping it would warrant a more knowledgeable answer. I was wrong. I walked in with $500 cash wanting to buy anything to read or collect for the weekend while at the same time supporting my LCS, but I guess they are doing well enough to not care about customer service. Good for them. Literally off to another LCS thankfully 5min away. Someone is getting this money lol. read more

Luna at Metropolis Comics is truly one of a kind. I called this morning and told her that my son and I missed out on the free comic book day since we arrived yesterday after the store closed. I asked if they had any of the free comic books left since my son's AP Lit teacher was offering extra credit to the students that wrote an essays based on the free comic books. I arrived 2 hours later to the store and found that she had already set aside several titles that he may like. I showed her the titles of the comic books my son requested. She looked though some boxes of comic books and even checked in the back. Even though those were no longer available, I appreciated the extra effort she took to help me. Thank you. read more

Not sure if they still host MTG, but when I used to go here as a teenager, I had a bad experience. I brought a rogue deck that won 4 FNMs straight and the regulars started to not like me. I'm pretty sure the manager was upset that I was "ruining the fun" for them as well. So because of this, I was accused of cheating multiple times by the regulars and by the management because of my winstreak in Standard and Limited. It got to the point where I was even banned without my knowledge (even though I never did anything wrong whatsoever). They lied to my face that they had no spots for pre-release but sold a spot to the guy after me. Immature and unprofessional. I can't believe they treated me like that as a kid who was just having fun with the game. read more

I was in the search of Strange Academy issue 1 reprints and luckily this store had it. And they also had the statues i wanted so i did a implusive buy. No ragrets thank you for having the TMNT PVC statues. They have a little bit of everything. I love how they have T shirts also. The comic books are nicely displays but i think theyre just like gamestop where you get a book fromcthe shelf and they give you a book from the counter. Which is undsrstandable but i want to be able to cherry pick my comics here and there. Customer service is retty good also. I thought this store was pretty big but its just an average comic book store but im willing to come back when i come around and also its at a great location too its on a Maine Street of the city or downtown of the city. With how shut-in, dingy, rude, and somewhat elitist many comic shops present themselves, supposedly to discourage outsiders, it's so refreshing to come to a place like Metropolis and meet such friendly people who know their product. For the area, they easily had the best events and attitudes for Free Comic Book Day this past May. read more

The conversation usually goes something like this, "So it's like when Wolverine fought that guy with the thing at the place where the Ultimately Amazing Remarkable X-Men were trying to stop that other guy from doing the other thing", and I'll say, "No, I never really got into comics", and my geek friends hang their heads in shame and pity. More and more, I started noticing that people I liked read comics, graphic novels, and other books with speech bubbles. I decided it was time to see what it was all about, especially after I sat through a rant against a current TV show on AMC that I, like many Americans, happen to like a lot. The problem is that I was intimidated by the stereotype surrounding comic book stores. Who really wants to get ganged up on by the comic book guy from the Simpsons and Dr. Sheldon Cooper? I eventually sucked it up and visited four area comic book stores. I won't mention the other three stores in this review, but I will say this, first and foremost, Metropolis Comics was the only one of the four where the employees actually bothered to acknowledge my presence. While the folks at some of the other places behaved as if not looking at me might make me go away, I was greeted AND offered help finding what I needed at Metropolis. I knew that I wanted to pick up some Walking Dead books, but I also wanted to explore other titles. Read Batman you say? Which frigging one? You have your Detectives, Dark Knights, Return of, Batman and Robin, Night Wing, so on and so forth. Just standing in the store you hear "This sucks", "That was good until the writer went insane, etc. Add to that the fact that most of these titles have been around for about 90 years, where do you even jump in? Flynn at Metropolis took the time to learn about my likes, dislikes, and turn me on to some story lines I might like. He even suggested a couple of independents despite his bias towards super hero comics. Another nice thing about Metropolis is that, while admittedly narrow, the stores layout makes sense. It may have been my first time in a comic book shop, but I quickly understood where the new books were, and how the used ones were organized.... yes actually organized. To sum it up, Metropolis is my new Comic book store (Despite the fact that I virtually drive write past two of the others on my way to work). As an added benefit, Metropolis is a hop skip and a jump from Johnny Reb's, so I can kill two birds with one stone while picking up my weekly pulls. read more

This is the best place for comics. The owner is super nice and a Big USC fan. Fight on! Mike. Everyone that works there is friendly and really know their comics. They have a membership program that saves you 10% on everything you buy. ( it does cost $20 but totally worth it) plus when they have sales you get even more off. They do a great job on the pull list and have sales all the time. Plus one of the best stocked $1 bins I have ever seen. Lots of gems to be found. What can I say Metropolis is the best. Got to fly.
