Pulp Fiction is awesome and you'll be hard pressed to find a more welcoming comic shop. I'll put my money on it. The staff here give you the time of day. No snarky looks, eye rolls or cold shoulders here. The barrier for entry to reading comics is already intimidating as is what with all the crazy intertwining, interconnecting continuities and universes, so Ryan and the crew understand the importance of facilitating a welcoming community right from when you step through the door. Everyone here will jump at the chance to talk comics and throw out their recommendations regardless if it's your first time or a regular. This place is my go-to for graphic novels. They seem to specialize in more alternative comics but they also have super hero ones as well. They always have a sale going on so everything is more than reasonable. The people that work there are very knowledgeable and welcoming. Pulp Fiction is smaller than a lot of comic book stores but they do have a decent selection. They also sell used graphic novels for 50% or more off, and allow trade-ins for credit. They sell stickers designed by local artists as well. They do not sell back issues of comic books. Limited street parking. Clean and bright inside. read more

Limited back issue selection but as it seems like their shop focuses on new releases I don't fault them for it. Not every comic shop needs to be rows and rows of old books. This place is great! My grandson and I went to a few comic book stores in search of XMen comics. They had a great selection. Wendy helped us and went far beyond basic help. She definitely knew XMen and was very happy to share her wealth of information. We found a few that we were going to buy and since Wendy knew that there were a couple others that went all together she helped locate them. One of them wasn't in the store so she researched whether she could get it or not and when it could be delivered to the store. Great experience. We would go back for sure. read more

First time at Pulp Fiction and I love it! We live next to the comic book shop on Clark but wanted to try another place. Pulp Fiction is smaller but there is so much love and passion for comics in this store. All around there is attention to detail. My son's comic had a cool hand drawn pic in the corner. Came in a few times and found the selection and prices to be great, possibly the best pricing I've seen in OC/LA area. I spoke with the owner and proprietor, Ryan, and he had a welcoming and kind personality. I like supporting small businesses and as a new collector this store is a great place to begin that journey. The conversation led me to opening my pull box for this store and so far they seemed to have gotten my orders just fine. The ordering process has been more difficult than old comic stores I've been to, but I suppose that is a sign of the times. Once I've gotten my order and pull box set up online it seems straightforward. One thing of note: I wish there was more engagement from employees/workers as finding a starting point in this world can be daunting. TLDR; great comic store for their prices. I like customer service but these people are super chatty and nice and I like my comic shop workers to be nerdy and snobby. There's a girl that works there (a girl? I asked for a discount since I was buying 11 comic books and they said no and said they were considering not letting me buy ANY for asking. After I paid I said for sure I wont come back because of how rude they were to me. Needless to say they began shouting F*** bombs and throwing up MIDDLE FINGERS like I have never seen. I wanted to thank the staff at Pulp Fiction for being so accommodating on Free Comic Book Day in 2019. My husband and i are east coasters, and surprise, he's a comic book guy. We made our trip plans before we realized this coincided with one of his favorite comic days of the year. I was impressed with how they kept the line moving (he usually goes to Midtown Comics in NYC...the line usually stretches DOWN the block, and they even open at 9am). I didn't get to see their selection, but i also likes they have their own parking lot. Dude. You have to drive in SoCal. And i have no clue why some places don't have ample parking. Finding a comic shop is a tough task. You want the store to have a friendly staff, clean and well lit store and a good selection of both new comics and trades. Not only does Pulp Fiction do all three they exceed them. Ryan and Anny are super friendly and try their hardest to make your visit the best. Customer service is their biggest priority and if they are out of something and still able to get it from their distributor they will gladly get it for you. They have an excellent pull service so you don't miss anything coming out. Not only is the store great but the customers are too. They also do great social media videos and have a fun Facebook group page. It checks all of the boxes I look for in a comic shop. read more

I have been shopping here for a few years now. Originally, it was just the store to go to for discounts on trades while picking up my weekly books. When you would step up to the register, it felt like you came second to the shipping of online orders that took place behind the counter and the staff would banter among themselves. Over the last year or two, the store has improved quite a bit. They moved the shipping portion of the business offsite which cut down on the craziness going on behind the counter. The store has redone the layout so it feels more open. There is a larger presence of children's books to encourage younger readers to enjoy comics (my daughter loves this section). Most importantly, the staff has changed a little. Ryan and Anny are great and they make the weekly run to shop much more enjoyable. The overall vibe of the store is much more positive than it was in the past, and I highly recommend checking them out, or giving them another look if you were turned off in the past. read more

Lately I learned the difference between a good comic book shop and great one with just one series: Dark Knights Metal. Here's my comic store review series #4! Another small store that seemingly didn't know what they had or what you value them, but I can't complain because came out on top. I like this place right away because unlike other stores they have a HUGE variety of used books for half off, and display them nicely so you are aware you can prob find what your looking for cheaper (kind of like amoeba records). However, same thing where I called and asked what issues they had, and they ended up having way more than they thought they had. I love this store. It's the best comic shop I know. I moved 20 miles from it and still frequent it. They take trade-ins, sell back issues and discounted trade-in tpb. My favorite is the 30% off all new tpb and omnibus. The guys behind the counter have always been chill and polite. Though, this last time I went in, this girl, I think she works there, was screaming at the postman. Look, I don't care what was going on, but your customers shouldn't have to listen to her shrill at this poor guy. It was uncomfortable. The only reason I gave this place two stars is the prices seem reasonable. I stopped in this morning after passing this store 100 times and was speaking to a nice young man working there. We were talking about autographs on comics and the green haired girl working near us jumped in to let me know my signed comics are not worth anything and they are actually defaced. Wow! That was a revelation I didn't need to hear about. Then the girl with glasses sitting behind a computer told him to help her look something up while I was still speaking to him. He walked off in the middle of our conversation. At that point I was embarrassed and left the store. I was only in the store for 5 min and they had no customers. That was the fastest I've ever felt unwelcome anywhere. I'm not sure why they would treat a collector like that, but small shops should be happy to see us and not act bothered. read more
