Pulp Fiction is awesome and you'll be hard pressed to find a more welcoming comic shop. I'll put my money on it. The staff here give you the time of day. No snarky looks, eye rolls or cold shoulders here. The barrier for entry to reading comics is already intimidating as is what with all the crazy intertwining, interconnecting continuities and universes, so Ryan and the crew understand the importance of facilitating a welcoming community right from when you step through the door. Everyone here will jump at the chance to talk comics and throw out their recommendations regardless if it's your first time or a regular. P.S. all the poor reviews from nearly a decade ago and beyond are from before ownership changed hands. None of them are indicative of the amazing experience you'll have coming into the shop today. read more

Super helpful and gives great support to their connections to local artists. Their collection of comics is next to none read more

My favorite local comic shop! Always get my pulls here every Wednesday! I've gone to a lot of other comic shops but Pulp is definitely where I feel most comfortable at! Friendly staff always super welcoming & ready to help me find my next read or even if I have any issues with my pull box. There's definitely other comic shops closer to me but I'll always make the drive out to pulp fiction here in Long Beach because the vibes are just that good & the community feeling me & my friends have here for pulp noir nights is always something to look forward to! Thanks for existing! read more

This place is my go-to for graphic novels. They seem to specialize in more alternative comics but they also have super hero ones as well. They always have a sale going on so everything is more than reasonable. The people that work there are very knowledgeable and welcoming. I somewhat donated graphic novels that I had read already and they gave me some credit for the store. It's a clean place and always have recommendations if you ask. read more

Ryan and the gang at Pulp Fiction are friendly, knowledgeable, and always helpful to me when I have questions about upcoming releases or my pull. The store is small but they have a great selection as well as discounted prices on trade paperbacks. It's quickly become my go-to comic book store in the Long Beach area! read more

Staff is always helpful They've ordered a few weird things for me. And they have a pretty good selection of standard comics and graphic novels, to make browsing worthwhile. Also, right near Hey Brother Baker! tho you have to pick the right time for them both to be open. read more

Really friendly knowledgeable staff. Annie was helpful in letting us know what new hardcover and paperback graphic novels were becoming available in the near future. Pulp Fiction is smaller than a lot of comic book stores but they do have a decent selection. They also sell used graphic novels for 50% or more off, and allow trade-ins for credit. They sell stickers designed by local artists as well. They do not sell back issues of comic books. Limited street parking. Clean and bright inside. read more

Got my first brand new comic book today with the recent Godzilla crossovers happening this year. Pick up today and happy to bag it and take it home with me! Will be back to buy more comics with Godzilla in the coming months read more

Great comic shop that specializes in new releases and fostering its local comic community with tons of events like social nights and signings. Limited back issue selection but as it seems like their shop focuses on new releases I don't fault them for it. Not every comic shop needs to be rows and rows of old books. Ryan and the team are friendly and knowledgeable and helpful and are able to provide good customer service even when the store is full of customers. read more

My new favorite comic shop! My husband and I have recently been getting back into comics and now my 10 year old daughter is into it too so it's a family hobby now. Ryan taught my husband and I all the ins and outs of the subscription service for comics. A lot has changed since I was collecting comics in the 90s so I was really excited to learn everything. The store is super clean, some discounted bins , and has the largest kids section that I've seen locally among comic stores. read more

I asked for something the person there had never heard of, and they got right on it to try and order it from the U.K.

Everytime I come here I always walk out with something they have a lot of selections to pick from, they have great service always greet you once you walk in and ask if you are searching for anything, the prices are good they have deals on some comics clearance items and even 20% on manga read more

This place is great! My grandson and I went to a few comic book stores in search of XMen comics. They had a great selection. Wendy helped us and went far beyond basic help. She definitely knew XMen and was very happy to share her wealth of information. We found a few that we were going to buy and since Wendy knew that there were a couple others that went all together she helped locate them. One of them wasn't in the store so she researched whether she could get it or not and when it could be delivered to the store. Great experience. We would go back for sure. read more

Great store, very friendly and knowledgeable personnel. They put on a great signing event , well organized. Would definitely recommend this comic book store to everyone. read more

I don't even live in Long Beach and Pulp Fiction is my go to comic shop. The staff is very knowledgeable of comic lore and any upcoming releases. Not mention very friendly and helpful. They even have a web site that makes your pull list / pre orders way too easy. The staff was very friendly and helpful to get me set up. If you're looking for a specific variant or want to collect by comic series they are happy to assist you as well. All around a great shop. Looking forward to coming here and collecting more. read more

First time at Pulp Fiction and I love it! We live next to the comic book shop on Clark but wanted to try another place. Pulp Fiction is smaller but there is so much love and passion for comics in this store. All around there is attention to detail. My son's comic had a cool hand drawn pic in the corner. And my comic had a callout. You can tell they care. The store is very clean and well stocked and sales guy was nice. This is def my new favorite shop in LB. read more

Came in a few times and found the selection and prices to be great, possibly the best pricing I've seen in OC/LA area. I spoke with the owner and proprietor, Ryan, and he had a welcoming and kind personality. I like supporting small businesses and as a new collector this store is a great place to begin that journey. The conversation led me to opening my pull box for this store and so far they seemed to have gotten my orders just fine. The ordering process has been more difficult than old comic stores I've been to, but I suppose that is a sign of the times. Once I've gotten my order and pull box set up online it seems straightforward. One thing of note: I wish there was more engagement from employees/workers as finding a starting point in this world can be daunting. TLDR; great comic store for their prices. Will continue supporting as long as they provide good service. read more

I'm not a comics guy at all. I came here after seeing a live stream and was curious because I've been driving past here and their previous location for years. They were having a local artist in-store and I decided to drop by to get a free sketch. The place could have been more organized, but it wasn't hard to navigate or find what I was looking for. They did have some manga which appeals to me more than comics or graphic novels do. The staff is knowledgeable and seems to be able to give good recommendations. I would come here again. read more

Best comic book shop in Long Beach! Incredibly well curated selection. The owner, Ryan, is always checking in to see if you need any recommendations. I've stumbled onto countless titles here that were featured on the shelves and are now personal favorites of mine: books like Head Lopper, Murder Falcon, Birdking. I visit on a weekly basis and there's always a parking spot right out front for me. You can't beat the great prices, curation, and super helpful staff. Love this shop! read more

So friendly and super knowledgeable. Ryan and the staff go out of their way to help you find the book you need. The have a great selection of trades and monthly's. They always have a great selection of keys for sell as well as complete runs. Definitely go diving in their dollar bins. read more

I don't get it, they give discounts all the time without asking, how do they survive? I like customer service but these people are super chatty and nice and I like my comic shop workers to be nerdy and snobby. There's a girl that works there (a girl? Don't get me started) that laughs at my jokes, no, I forbid and eats healthy. Next time walk in I'm going to demand I pay full price and I'm bringing loafs of bread, carbs for all. The guys there, Damn them for being cool. I don't get it, its like bizarro comic land. In the end I would say, GO HERE! Great prices on graphic novels. Friendly people and very helpful. They drink Rockstar, oh yeah. read more

So yelp cut of my review due to word limit, and I didn't know how to edit it to make it fit 5000 characters. But it's literally just me raving about the store all 6713 characters. The gist of what you want to know is, the other reviews are outdated, Ryan is very friendly, and they have GREAT discounts here. Please consider supporting this store!!!! Oh, and sign up for a pull list, it's great! read more

It's usually a bit out of my way from work to home, but the drive to Pulp Fiction is always worth it. The wealth of knowledge Ryan and Annie lay down on what's going in the comic world and pop culture leads to recommendations I'd rarely pass up. I've been a pull list subscriber for years and have always received prompt communication and support when needed. They have the best deals locally on graphic novels which make great gifts for that comic book nerd in your life. Even if you have no clue what to get, the staff can steer you in the right direction with a little input. Don't shy away from the used pile, there's some gold in those shelves! Pulp Fiction is a Long Beach staple and I look forward to what changes are in store in 2020! read more

This is a great comic shop, and worth a visit. The staff is courteous and very knowledgeable in all things comics. Well beyond the standard capes & masks books, they have a deep knowledge of independents, horror, science, crime, fantasy. They have a large catalog of trades, and are very helpful with suggestions if your looking for something out of you comfort zone. They'll also offer pull list services, and special orders. Totally worth a stop if you're in the hobby and looking for a second home. read more

Very Ugly and RUNDOWN. Felt like I was gonna get shot...by the OWNERS. I asked for a discount since I was buying 11 comic books and they said no and said they were considering not letting me buy ANY for asking. After I paid I said for sure I wont come back because of how rude they were to me. Needless to say they began shouting F*** bombs and throwing up MIDDLE FINGERS like I have never seen. Thank god no children were in there. This is not a family friendly place. read more

I wanted to thank the staff at Pulp Fiction for being so accommodating on Free Comic Book Day in 2019. My husband and i are east coasters, and surprise, he's a comic book guy. We made our trip plans before we realized this coincided with one of his favorite comic days of the year. I was impressed with how they kept the line moving (he usually goes to Midtown Comics in NYC...the line usually stretches DOWN the block, and they even open at 9am). I didn't get to see their selection, but i also likes they have their own parking lot. Dude. You have to drive in SoCal. And i have no clue why some places don't have ample parking. But it was great here. Thanks you guys! read more

This place is cool! Discovered them at the beginning of the pandemic and ordered some discounted books from them! Once they opened I became a regular customer, leaving the LCS I'd been going to for 5 years! Ryan, Anny and Derek are all great people and create such a fun and friendly atmosphere! I also appreciate his safe they are when it comes to safety during a pandemic! Keep it up guys! read more

Great store, great community here. The staff has always been very helpful and they have a great selection of graphic novels.

Finding a comic shop is a tough task. You want the store to have a friendly staff, clean and well lit store and a good selection of both new comics and trades. Not only does Pulp Fiction do all three they exceed them. Ryan and Anny are super friendly and try their hardest to make your visit the best. Customer service is their biggest priority and if they are out of something and still able to get it from their distributor they will gladly get it for you. They have an excellent pull service so you don't miss anything coming out. Not only is the store great but the customers are too. They also do great social media videos and have a fun Facebook group page. It checks all of the boxes I look for in a comic shop. read more

I have been shopping here for a few years now. Originally, it was just the store to go to for discounts on trades while picking up my weekly books. When you would step up to the register, it felt like you came second to the shipping of online orders that took place behind the counter and the staff would banter among themselves. Over the last year or two, the store has improved quite a bit. They moved the shipping portion of the business offsite which cut down on the craziness going on behind the counter. The store has redone the layout so it feels more open. There is a larger presence of children's books to encourage younger readers to enjoy comics (my daughter loves this section). Most importantly, the staff has changed a little. Ryan and Anny are great and they make the weekly run to shop much more enjoyable. The overall vibe of the store is much more positive than it was in the past, and I highly recommend checking them out, or giving them another look if you were turned off in the past. read more

Lately I learned the difference between a good comic book shop and great one with just one series: Dark Knights Metal. Here's my comic store review series #4! Another small store that seemingly didn't know what they had or what you value them, but I can't complain because came out on top. I like this place right away because unlike other stores they have a HUGE variety of used books for half off, and display them nicely so you are aware you can prob find what your looking for cheaper (kind of like amoeba records). However, same thing where I called and asked what issues they had, and they ended up having way more than they thought they had. I bought what I wanted, cardboard and plastic more than other stores, and was one my way. Nothing special thus far. 2*'s YT: Erik Wade read more

I love this store. It's the best comic shop I know. I moved 20 miles from it and still frequent it. They take trade-ins, sell back issues and discounted trade-in tpb. My favorite is the 30% off all new tpb and omnibus. The guys behind the counter have always been chill and polite. Though, this last time I went in, this girl, I think she works there, was screaming at the postman. Look, I don't care what was going on, but your customers shouldn't have to listen to her shrill at this poor guy. It was uncomfortable. Thank God she wasn't running the register or I wouldn't have gotten anything. read more

The only reason I gave this place two stars is the prices seem reasonable. I stopped in this morning after passing this store 100 times and was speaking to a nice young man working there. We were talking about autographs on comics and the green haired girl working near us jumped in to let me know my signed comics are not worth anything and they are actually defaced. Wow! That was a revelation I didn't need to hear about. Then the girl with glasses sitting behind a computer told him to help her look something up while I was still speaking to him. He walked off in the middle of our conversation. At that point I was embarrassed and left the store. I was only in the store for 5 min and they had no customers. That was the fastest I've ever felt unwelcome anywhere. I'm not sure why they would treat a collector like that, but small shops should be happy to see us and not act bothered. read more
