Great bookstore, but it's a lot more cramped because they gave up downstairs space. I love their displays, collection of books, games, toys and esthetics. The staff is nice and helpful. I have one major problem, they NEED TO CHANGE THE AIR FILTER IN THE restroom (esp the woman's). It has never been changed because it so filthy. This is one of two Barnes & Noble locations in Long Beach; this store - newly remodeled as of November 2025 - is in the Marina Pacifica plaza along with AMC Theaters, Ralph's, and Nordstrom Rack. By far, it's one of the most beautiful bookstores I've been to! A giant floral arrangement greets you the moment you walk in. The space lets in plenty of soft, bright light and there are cognac-colored armchairs spread throughout where you can pick up a book and read awhile. Even the counter says "words are magic," and I tend to agree! Layout-wise, new releases and vinyls are found toward the front, then fiction on the right, fantasy, kids in the middle/back, games and puzzles left/back, and gifts and journals front left next to the registers. There is no cafe at this location (although there is at the B&N Towne Center). I had a pleasant experience, albeit brief, with the associate who helped ring me up. Of course, B&N is retail pricing so items aren't necessarily cheaper, but I'm newly signed up to their membership and sometimes the 10% discount that fetches you comes out to be a little less expensive (e.g. Blackwing pencils, Rifle Paper). Plus, they often run promotions for rewards members, both free and paid, such as journals earning extra stamps during the second half of January. So keep an eye out for those deals! read more

Very excited to see our Barnes opening up again at Marina Pacifica. It has been a staple to this shopping center for decades. It is only one story now, which is quite alright with me. Their use of space is much more efficient, for sure. Books are priced as marked. There is no bargain book section anymore. But do look for discounts in the dvd/vinyl records section. There are book genres for all ages. I love the cookbooks section. And if you journal, there is a nice selection of moleskine and other brands. For those who enjoy puzzles and games, you're in for a real treat. If you join as a premium member, you will get a tote bag, 10% discount off almost everything, free shipping, and other perks. Service is impeccable and no doubt there will be a staff member who can guide you to your favorite section. Reading is fundamental. read more

Since they remodeled B&N many of the previous original sales persons no longer work here. (One of the main reasons I loved this B&N.) I wanted to make some returns as I purchased several copies of the same books they were all new and intact and were never opened and the woman (a new one there,) after checking each book she declined to return or even give me credit, because they were past their return policy. The sad thing was one of the older saleswomen/person (original person) was standing there and did not even step in to assist. I think they also changed the return policy from three months to one month. I understand if they have a policy, but I know that many of the original staff here would have done the return for me. I know I had a large amount of books for return, but they could easily go back onto the shelf. I used to come here weekly or twice a week in the afternoons and walk out with several magazines and several books... I really wanted to support B&N. Since I moved to Seal Beach (a block away from this store,) over ten years ago I have been walking through these doors every week or twice a week. I feel disenchanted with this B&N, I kind of understand about timely returns but it's a huge chain, the books were never opened or left the bag and I felt less loyal to this establishment now. A store credit would have been awesome. I no longer care about supporting this book store. The other problem with this store, it is really cramped now. Before, it had two floors and everything was spacious and really a fun place to visit. The magazine section was large and there were benches to sit and sift through them to decide which ones to purchase. No more. It's very cramped, half the great staff (who knew how to make customers happy,) and were kind and warm... the space... all gone. read more

This Barnes and Noble store was closed but it has reopened!! I'm so happy they're back! There's so many books, magazines, toys, journals and calendars! The store has been remodeled and renovated! No more stale musty smell, now it smells new and the whole store is bright! Staff are walking around the store asking customers if they need help. Now that's what I call great customer service! One of two Barnes & Noble in Long Beach, this location in the Pacifica Marketplace was a good place to stop in to browse and see what new books and media are out. It was recently remodeled in 2025, reopening recently in November. They did a nice job, with plenty of light and well organized sections besides just books. Didn't have any intention to buy anything, but ended up getting Christmas gifts. read more

Fantasy has two baby shelves but we need a huge toy/record/gift wrap station? Girl, it's a BOOK store. Now was the old space perfect? This Barnes & Noble location has been closed for months for remodeling and I was excited to hear they just reopened. I came for their soft opening and was quite a bit disappointed. The biggest change was the downsize, it used to be two floors and now it's only one floor so everything is crammed together. Not as spacious as before, it's like walking in a maze and you're easily bumping into people and things. There's no more Starbucks, no bargain section, and less variety/selection than before. Overall, the renovations look nice and I'm glad they decide to keep this B&N location, but if you want more variety, it's better to go to the LB Towne Center location instead. read more

I did not the new renovations to this location. They no longer occupy both levels and have crammed everything into the top floor of this store. The isles are tightly placed making it hard to navigate without bumping into things and people. I guess the rent here was too much for them to maintain and keep both floors like before. Also, gone is the Starbucks that used to be there. Service is a bit slower too! Selection is less. Prices are the same as other locations. read more

I really was looking forward to this store re-opening but it was a massive downgrade. Pretty sad what has become of it. It used to be open and airy and inviting. Now it's just a maze of bookshelves from floor to ceiling, you can't see further than 20 feet in any direction, there are no visible "aisles" to speak of, and it's literally a maze to get to the back of the store. Did I mention it's a maze?! The bookshelves don't follow any pattern, they are just randomly strewn about and some books are divided between different areas. Some sections got MASSIVELY downgraded! The technology and science books are a TINY little area that is literally about 10 feet wide. Meanwhile the Anime/manga section is absolutely HUGE and takes up several walls. Ridiculous. The workers are all great and it seems like they aren't too happy with the remodel either, as they are constantly asked where everything is now. I have no reason to come here anymore, I'll drive a little further to the Towne Center location. read more

It's nice to see that this bookstore chain is hanging on and providing a place where folks can still browse and immediately purchase a book. This location, located in the Marina Pacifica plaza, is fairly good sized with two floors of books (also magazines, cards, and small gifts). The books are well organized with the different sections well labeled. I came looking for some sort of dinosaur book for my young nephew who is going through his dinosaur-crazed stage. I found the children's section downstairs where there were quite a few dinosaur books to choose from. I picked a huge book full of every known dinosaur which was so heavy it could be used as an anchor for a container ship. Once my mission was accomplished, a quick glance around the children's area surprised me as far as questionable advertising. Checkout is located on the upper level. After paying, the person at the counter didn't provide a bag and was oddly reluctant to give one once I asked. No matter, I had my book, mission accomplished. read more

"Welcome to your life... There's no turning back..." You're in the Marina Pacifica's Barnes & Nobles and you're going to rule the world! This spacious beyond well stocked Nobles is very inviting in energy, lighting and it's incredible staff. I often forget that the Barnes offers quite a bit including greeting cards, board games, collectibles, fun finds, trading cards and so much more. I came in with my date Phil after we finished Barbie at the AMC just a beat left of this great location. He wanted to get a book for a close friend for their birthday and also a card which they had some clever ones I'd come back and stalk up on for all occasions... Even ones for divorce... break ups and quitting your job lol The candles they carry (yes they have candles) are completely outrageous in price, but of incredible quality... Was definitely tempted to buy a $40 Pinot Noir scented one but then I remember myself and the fact that I have more than a dozen candles at home (not including and endless collection of tealights)... It smelt so good though!! I didn't plan on getting more than one thing for myself (if that) as we came in to shop for someone else plus continue a great date... Like who knew Barnes and Nobles could be so date worthy.... with their amazing Starbucks, escalators on each side descending into their lower level of more books, music, movies and more. The escalator going down wasn't working at all we took it down like a staircase, but we still walked down it (always have a mini fear of them just restarting mid steps and me falling on my butt exclaiming something outlandish hahaha... NOT TODAY escalator). The elevators aren't in the most convenient location however they do work great. Exploring both the upstairs and downstairs isles, displays and end-caps... I ended up with an arm full of goodies including three new books. The Barnes & Noble Collectible Editions are amazing... Obsessed with the lettering/font, colors and more Art Deco style covers. High praise to Luke and Emma, who were both amazing! Emma was super friendly on the sales floor and behind the counter. Thanks for ringing me up and going above and beyond! Luke was one of the other B&N Marina Pacifica Crew I interacted with, great energy and super helpful as well with helping me update my Barnes & Noble Membership. Which I guess my number wasn't attached to (just my email), but is now with an update. Overall an amazing experience with quality assistances from all including the kind guy who made sure everyone was helped in the Music & Movies (also includes Documentaries and TV series) section which had some surprising great deals on select item including records. They have a register in Music & Entertainment but prefer for you to make all purchases upstairs, at least they did over the weekend. You can see some docked boats that lead to Alamitos Bay and beyond behind Barnes and Nobles which I love, really pretty at night. This is officially in my top 5 favorite Barnes & Nobles Bookstore locations in LA County. Can't wait to come back! read more

The customer service is not a problem, its great! But the book magic for this remodeled location? GONE. You approach the store and the first thing you a greeted with is the B&N sign that is no longer cursive. Which is not necessarily a problem, but it is a key detail that made B&N recognizable from afar. Then you enter the store, and you a met with bright lights and tall bookshelf's that are very close to touching the ceiling. Browsing the store is now more of a hassle as the foot traffic is higher since their is no longer a bottom floor. The overall set up doesn't really make sense, and their is no longer a separate area for the kids to do their readings (their used to be a little stage in the children's section where kids can be read to) nor a separate space for the music section. The remodel is more of botched plastic surgery. Like yes the books shelves are bigger and their are more books that are facing front and yet you just look at it and think "yeah something went wrong here, it just doesn't look right" . The tall bookshelves are not a problem in stores that have higher ceilings like the Town Center location, or the Hunting beach location, but this one? Nope, just doesn't work and its cluttered. Lets not forget that they closed down the bottom floor so now everything is on one floor and when I tell you it's like being a rat in a maze trying to sniff out the cheese , I am not kidding. As I was going through the maze, that is gray with awkward lighting, I found myself squeezing past other customers because there is just one to many shelf's with not much space to walk. The new set up with the new color scheme makes the comfy B&N feel like a race to get out of there. I would spend quite a bit of time in the store, but it just feels like the set up is DESIGNED to be a grab and go. ITs like they don't want their customers to stay and browse and enjoy the atmosphere. It reminds me of a grocery store? Yeah it reminds me of a grocery store cereal isle. Which it shouldn't because its supposed to be a Barnes and Noble. Again, service was great, they have a great team, just unfortunate that the classic B&N magic has been snuffed out. read more

I actually found what I was looking for here and it was only $12 (half off ) The lady at the register was so pleasant. I've been a local businessman in Long Beach for over 35 years, and throughout that time Barnes & Noble has always been a go-to place for me to step away, think, and recharge. I was genuinely disappointed when the store closed for renovations, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. The space looks great and feels refreshed. That said, every time I've visited since the reopening, the store has been uncomfortably cold. I'm an outdoorsman--cold weather doesn't usually bother me--but sitting by the magazine racks and reading chairs feels like a winter storm blowing directly on you. It's distracting, uncomfortable, and honestly inefficient. The air conditioning seems to be set on automatic at an unnecessarily low level. It feels like a lot of wasted energy and makes it hard for customers to relax and stay awhile. I truly hope someone at the corporate level reads this and makes an adjustment. This store has always been a place to linger--not rush out because it's freezing. Please consider dialing back the AC. Right now, it's far colder than it needs to be. read more

It's not cozy anymore nor comfortable at all to shop and browse. Tight spaces, easily crowded. It's always wonderful to come to Barnes & Noble to enjoy an hour, more or less. Time is well spent finding books by authors you love and new authors or subjects. The prices at B&N are moderately high cuz all the books are new. And there aren't many new book stores in SoCal anymore. This has always been and will always be the best place to buy books. They have fun chatzkes in addition to books. Puzzles, cards, and devices readers enjoy. I started my Christmas shopping today and got this for my son (see the photo). I removed a star because they have an elevator and moving stairs (the name of which escapes me at this moment and I'm too old to care), which never work. Why do we have to keep fixing the escalator (see there, I remember now)? We all need exercise. Please consider going old school. Put in some stairs. read more

This is a lovely redone and resigned bookstore. Great selection. Beautifully presented. Now for the one big problem! It is being too cold in most parts of this store. By the check stand it's fine. Anywhere else is so much colder than the outside. Leaves one thinking, why don't they save some money and turn the air conditioning off. Is it really the goal of this place to have people leave and/or go out to their cars for coats. This makes the environment unpleasant. And, so if you all may think this is just some little old lady who is always cold, this not old lady asked at least five different customers if they were freezing. They ALL said yes. So, if Barnes and Noble wants to keep people in their store maybe try some heat in the winter not air conditioning. Lastly, how about some more chairs so people can comfortably look through books they may want to buy. People do not sit and read entire books therefore a loss for the bookstore. Try some really nice soft jazz too. read more

I felt profiled and followed during my visit to this location with my family. Our intention was to take a break for our mental well-being, but this experience had the opposite effect. While I do dress more for comfort, I can't help but feel that if I were slimmer or wearing newer clothes, we wouldn't have been treated this way. Despite the great book selection, I think I will take my business elsewhere in support of establishments that treat everyone with respect, regardless of their perceived financial status. read more

Located off Pacific Coast Hwy in Long Beach. By the AMC theater. Starbucks is next door and shares an entrance inside. Parking is shared with all the businesses in the plaza. The B&N is a two level store and pretty big lot of ground to cover inside both up and down levels. Overall a nice neat store. read more

Prior to out of town weekend, I was recommended to pick up a thrilling little page turner book (book titled = Five Decembers - totally awesome historical thriller). So, sure enough, I called down there to B & N - they had the book - I drove over there and bought it. Done deal. Simple great service and efficient. Cool and well taken care of Barnes and noble. This location is at marina pacific and offers a relaxing time inside. Plenty of parking and businesses around plus a connecting Starbucks. Inside, it felt clean and organized. It's two floors and I believe more audio/video stuff is down stairs. I was mostly checking out magazines or historic books haha. Brick and Mortar bookshops while interesting to visit, seem like they have had their day. This was a nice location, but it just seems to be that they are going out of style and are becoming a thing of the past. Prices seem to be more expensive to those you can find at places like Amazon. I don't know, I used to love coming to bookstores but as I am getting older I think the use of paper over electronic style books seems a bit wasteful. Somewhat friendly staff. This Barnes and noble is one of my favorite ones because of the down stairs section. Most are two stories but this one goes down into a basement level and for some reason I just like it more. The book selection is standard with other Barnes and nobles. One complaint would be the constant moving of sections and changing the layout. It can make it hard to find books when they keep changing things. The other was how the individual sections sort the books. Some do it alphabetically by other and other sections had sub categories so if you didn't know what subcategory your book was in you might be looking for awhile read more
