I live minutes from Cal State Los Angeles but I make the long drive to attend Cal State Long Beach for many reasons. The bookstore is one of them. The bookstore is very well organized and always super clean. I've purchased and rented several textbooks from here and all my transactions have been hassle free. The few times I've had to return textbooks (the instructor gave the bookstore the wrong info, etc.) was no problem. The customer service here is always excellent even during the rush periods (start and end of the semesters). PROS: Online ordering and pick up for textbooks is a breeze. Plus, you can compare prices from other websites as well. Obtaining your student I.D is quick and easy and they take nice pictures! The staff here is very good with keeping their word. I once returned a textbook rental and they had no record of it but they said they would investigate and contact me. Within a few hours I received an email that the situation was resolved. Total pros! Tons of CSULB apparel that you will be proud to wear. CONS: Sigh. I love my CSULB gear but the black color t-shirts fade fast. They look great at first but two spins in the washer and they look like you bought them at the swap-meet! 2019 Located on the campus: Must pay for parking !! After my 3rd semester you would think I would stop buying textbooks from here for the fact the return policy deadline is the same week of the first week of class!! Unfortunately none of the books this term were available offsite (chegg, amazon, etc). I purchase books for 3 of my classes through the website. Unfortunately 2 of those 3 books were not required. I was unable to get a refund which sucks but they are very strict on the refund dates. Getting documentation from the professor/dropping the course won't help after the deadline!! The positive thing is the other merchandise (novelty) items have a longer return policy with the receipt. This bookstore definitely comes with their ups and downs, but more downs to be honest. Pros: -A wide selection of CSULB gear, you can definitely find whatever you need to show your 49er pride here -The occasional tent sales are nice. You can find hoodies for $20 and shirts for cheaper. -Clean and organized bookstore -2 stories. A lot of good tech stuff on the 2nd floor Cons: -Customer service is not great. When you ask for help, they say they'll be there in a minute, then they forget, etc. -If there's no sale, the prices are way too high here. $40 for an athletic t-shirt? $45 for a graduation stole? Seriously? No thanks. -Bad technology. When you go in, the sensors will go off if you have a new book in your backpack. Then, when I use my gift card, it doesn't register in the system so I have to pay in cash. Ridiculous. -Selling back your books. JUST DON'T DO IT. They'll give you peanuts for it. Literally, a book you can sell online for $80, they'll give you $3 here. SELL YOUR BOOKS ONLINE. Having worked in a campus bookstore myself back during my undergrad days, I can tell the standard set here are no where near the standards we set for ourselves in my undergraduate bookstore. My long compass search from yesterday ended today without having to go to staples or office depot. I bought a compass and protractor set with eraser for $3.49. I also bought some index cards to save a trip another store. The cashiers were freindly and chill. This store is located on the campus of Cal State Long Beach and has a great stock of items. Though they have been backordered on books I need in the past, they always had all the supplies I needed. Like most campus bookstores they have lots of gear and apparel with the CSULB branding. Some of their items are a bit high priced and yet out of convenience or school pride I buy them. They also have incidentals and dorm supplies for the students to buy. I am only coming for one class this semester, if I come back to this campus for my next degree, I will happily visit the bookstore. Even though I buy many of my books online or other places, but, this store is great for much more. read more

Smaller than bookstores at other institutions I've been to, but they have a good selection of accessories and clothing. They also sell software at student rates (MS Office, etc). In terms of service, it's been hit or miss for me. Sometimes there will only be a few customers in the bookstore and an abundance of employees who don't seem to want to help out in terms of looking for items. Also, sometimes there are like 6 people at the registers and only 1-2 people in line who seem to get ignored. Now that I think about it, service here seems to be really good when it's busy. I lost my ID card and got locked out of my dorm. Then, I got my old one recoded so I could get into my room. Then, I went down to the bookstore so they could recode it so I could eat at the dining hall. After being harassed and yelled at by two girls running ID card services I left in tears and locked out of my room. This is not any way to treat a customer and I'm going to try and avoid these people at all costs. Terrible experience for a college freshman. AVOID BUYING TEXTBOOKS HERE AT ALL COSTS!!!! I had a horrible experience(s). First off, for some reason my card won't work when ordering my books online through them. Neither they nor my bank knows why. More importantly, I wanted to buy a used copy of a book so I wrote no substitutions on my order, because if you don't they most likely give you a new book-this I learned from experience. For about a week and a half I went everyday to pick up my book and after a couple days they said it was in the back but not packaged and try tomorrow. After this week and a half, I receive an email informing me that they cancelled my order because they ran out of used books (I guess they sold the book waiting to be packaged?). I called and there was nothing they can do. Sorry for the rant but do your very best not to get your books here- order your books before the semester even begins. read more

This campus bookstore has to be one of the nicer ones I've seen. What they have besides books: lots and lots of CSULB apparel; go Beach! Tons of school supplies such as scantrons, notebooks, writing utensils, they sell a large variety of electronics, and they even have bottles, mugs and etc. They have an upstairs area where they sell more electronics. It also doubles as a lounge area with tables and chairs and sofas with a few ottomans. Lots of students like to come here to study and hang out and many times they might have a movie playing on the large television screen. Tip for those that are new to the campus: If you're going to buy books on campus I suggest preordering them ONLINE and then picking them up. You'll spend a lot of time trying to search for books if you don't order them ahead of time and there's a good chance they might even run out of that book you're looking for. read more

So my review is based on the kids' clothing section of the store and this one-time purchase only: Nice selection of sizes and types of shirts / hats Big selection of stickers Nice full size mirrors Selection was similar to what was available online Items were easy to find, easy to look through Everything was clean, neat, and organized Checkout was fast and efficient (however, I WAS there at about 6pm) I would appreciate it if there were more (or clearer) signs indicating where exactly this building was. I checked the map online before I got here, but still had a hard time finding this place. I couldn't find a sign directing me to the right building, so I asked someone who was hanging out and she pointed me in the wrong direction. Eventually, I ended up wandering around where I thought it should be (based on the map I saw previously) and ended up actually seeing the building through the doors of another building next to it!!! Not sure how much longer I would have been willing to stumble around looking for it before I gave up and went to the 2nd Street store.... That being said, now that I know WHERE this is, I would definitely come back here next time I wanted to get some CSULB merch. I called them based off of information to who could help me from the library- once I did no one who answered had he information I needed and preceded to transfer me to another department. The last girl who answered laughed and said I was calling the wrong office entirely...!- I said ok fine pls transfer me to a department who could help me- she then re stated that she was "trying to help me", I said great go ahead- and she hung up on me. read more

Today 01/05/2021; I ordered books at California State University LongBeach (C.S.U.L.B.) on-line at 0600 hrs. The price compared to Thriftbooks was better at C.S.U.L.B.. I happened to be near C.S.U.L.B. when they opened. The customer service and cleanliness of the store was outstanding! Josie was able to pull "my" complete order before she ate her oatmeal. This place is fine... as long as you don't ever want to return anything. It has one of the worst return policies I have ever seen in my life, and I experienced it. Firsthand. I tried to return a calculator the same day I purchased it, because I didn't like the model. The buttons were extremely flimsy on the model, so whatever, I thought I would just return it and buy something somewhere else. Apparently not. One of their policies in their return policy (that is only posted at the customer service desks, not anywhere you actually buy things, meaning I missed it) is that they don't accept "opened calculators"? This (possibly Illegal. Nothing was posted where its supposed to be posted, and I returned it unused with its original, although opened, packaging, with receipt [https://oag.ca.gov/consumers/general/refunds]), policy is absurd. And when I asked them about it, they offered to replace it with another model of calculator. Sure whatever. But they didn't have anything with what I needed. Meaning they had to order a model I was going to buy and it won't be in for a few days. I should have payed with credit card. Because at least then I could have given them the calculator back with everything required by law and did a chargeback. read more

Per the 49er Shop Business Manager's comment: "All students were given a week to return their gown and hood free of charge, following graduation." Read the timeline below again. =================================== My grad ceremony was 5/22/2015 @ 2pm. Closed 5/23/2015 to 5/24/2015 for the weekend. 5/25/2015 was Memorial Day, so they were closed then too. Gown must be returned by 5/27/2015, but their store closes promptly at 6pm (good luck fighting traffic). If you're working normal hours, you probably already requested time off work to attend your graduation ceremony which also happens to be stupidly scheduled during normal working hours. Imagine how stupid you look when you have to ask your boss again for more time off the following week to go return the gown. A whooping 2 business days to return the cap and gown...so you get hit with their awfully convenient late charge of $25. And that's how CSULB operates, fucking people outta their cash and not batting an eye to any possible shame at how they operate to get it. Affordable education my ass. I'll never spend a dime in this fucking place again. I won't be nostalgic and buy the diploma frame or license plate like I had planned, I will find a generic one and pay a frame shop to do it for me, even if it costs more. Why? I have never had a bad experience here but warning when all the freshmen come here during the first few weeks of school, be prepared for long Long lines. Went by to grab a book a few days after the craze and it was much better. They also had free Redbulls which was nice. The workers are friendly and able to assist you with what you are looking for. The books are overpriced. I could not afford to buy the text books here and perhaps I never will. I have been able to avoid wasting my money on these overpriced textbooks. Most of my textbooks i buy online because they are more than half off than in the bookstore. Their clothing is also expensive. They do have good deals when they are on sale for example the shirts are $10 and sweaters are $20. On the second floor they have all their technology and accessories like the Apple laptops. Students who purchase their laptops their get a student discount. They have beautiful stuff but they will cost you. read more
