I won't be shopping at Shara on Second Street in Long Beach anymore, nor at their Seal Beach location or any other location. Unfortunately, it comes down to poor customer service and policies that seem to be enforced randomly. Yesterday (March 2) I went in to exchange a $20 item my husband bought me as a gift. It was a belly chain, not a necklace, so I simply wanted to swap it for something else. I wasn't asking for a refund. I just wanted to exchange it for another item in the store. I've exchanged items there before without any issue, so I assumed this would be easy. Imagine my surprise when the employee told me I could not even do an exchange without a receipt. The item was in the original Shara bag with the original Shara tag still attached. She said she had no idea how old the item was, even though it had been purchased about two weeks ago. The exact item was still on display in the store, but instead of simply finding it or offering store credit, she just said no. I asked to speak with a manager. She refused and said she had to text someone and wait for a response. When I explained that I shop there regularly and was surprised by how this was being handled, she replied that if I were really a regular customer, I should know the store policies. At that point the interaction had gotten so frustrating that I lost my patience and left the store. I came in expecting a quick exchange and left feeling like I had done something wrong. It only takes one bad experience to lose a loyal customer. I used to shop at Shara because I like supporting small businesses, but customer service matters. Their items are cute, but nothing they sell is unique enough to justify that kind of experience. The tourists will probably keep this place busy, but I won't be returning. read more

I have been to Shara a number of times. More than 15 in the last 9 months. I can count on 1 finger how many times someone has greeted me but do not have enough fingers and toes to count how many times the employees aren't around or they are on their phones. For the prices, location, I would expect a simple hello. Clothes are ok but the overpriced. Jewelry, DO NOT BUY!!! Tarnish in a moment. I am take my jewelry off nightly, no perfume or lotion. Terrible. Do not recommend remotely. Hopefully, this post gets not just the manager but the owners attention. read more

Shoppers beware! My gf and I walked into this store today after having a lovely lunch. While we were walking around the store the 2 sales associates were loudly bad mouthing previous customers. This was very unprofessional and made us uncomfortable but things got worse when one associate said to the other associate loud enough to hear 'watch her' We were shocked and stared at them like they couldn't be talking about us. But one associate approched my gf closely and made a brief comment to her We instantly realized they had meant us. OMG talk about putting our purchases down and feeling uncomfortable and unwelcome. Honestly I was so hopeful :( My bestfriend kept talking about how much she loved the this. She's only tried the silver pieces. Well, we went in, and I was thinking it was a bit pricey for some pieces (ex. $30+ for some "gold" rings). However, I thought, if they were 14K gold plated like the worker said, then I guess it would be worth it. Both rings I got turned my fingers green within a couple times of me wearing it... This place had beautiful jewelry and clothes but I didn't feel welcome here and I was being followed around the store . Every move I made there was someone watching me , it would be a difference if I was greeted and asked if I needed help with anything. I left the items I was interested in and will not be returning. If I could give zero stars, I would do not waste your time coming here to this establishment. I'm going to give Shara an A-ok rating after two separate experiences I had spending my store credit. I went in to browse for some jewelry and the associate was very nice and helpful in answering questions regarding what metals were used in the making of each piece. There was a sweater on the mannequin I fell in love with and tried on. I didn't get the sweater, but the friendly associate who rang me up for the jewelry was properly thorough in explaining their return policy. A few days later, and I can't stop thinking about that sweater. I call to see if they have my size in the color I want, and they do. I asked if they could hold it behind the counter for me because I was worried about them selling out, and they said it wouldn't be a problem. A few hours later, my store credit is depleted and my new sweater is now my new favorite. Hopefully, they got rid of the store associates who didn't want to be there and hired people who are better suited to retail. I'll continue to browse and shop at Shara. This place has beautiful curb appeal , the clothes feel like great quality and they have a good selection of clothes. The jewelry seems cheaply made though. The reason for my extremely low rating though goes back to the customer service. Before going in I had no idea that my Black friend and I would be profiled. First of all from the moment we entered the employee was watching our every move she then got very close and was following us. Obviously she didn't do it very well because I noticed every time she was close. We would go to one section and the employee was pretending to organize clothes that were already organized . She literally was just moving hangers around and following us throughout the store . It wasn't until the last few moment she backed off . There were two other non Black customers in the store and she didn't follow them around . It is insulting and very frustrating. I almost didn't buy the sweater I liked due to the sheer and utter audacity of the employee. Even though I like the clothes and can EASILY and READILY afford it , I do not appreciate the racial profiling I experienced here. I read some of comments here and on google and I'm not shocked so many people got accused of stealing because apparently this seems to be common experience . Had a terrible experience at Shara bits n pieces with a staff member. When I walked in the store the lady at the front was on her phone and did not acknowledge me at all so I said hello and did not get a response. When going to check out I set my items on the counter and the lady did not look up from her phone to check my items out for at least 30 seconds as I stood directly in front of her. She was having a hard time finding the items on the iPad which wasn't a big deal but the check out process took over 10 minutes and she did not apologize once. While this boutique has cute clothes, I was very disappointed with their customer service / try-on policy. They have two dressing rooms. At the time, one was occupied and the other was not. Despite being ready to try-on my items, I was asked to wait by the salesperson because another lady, whom was still shopping, had a couple items in the unoccupied dressing room. This is a very nice little boutique that my friend and I stumbled upon while making a day trip to 2nd Street in Long Beach. I enjoyed looking at all of the bohemian-style costume jewelry and clothing. The prices are reasonable. My Long Beach grandaughter & her Mom love Shara & when I visit from Seattle, it's a "must stop in" shop! Jewelry, trinkets, scarves, gifts...there's always something that catches my eye! Today was no exception! Though I couldn't visit in person, Tina was my personal shopper on the phone, choosing a birthday gift for our sweet teen granddaughter & amazingly enough, we found out she and our grandaughter are birthday twins! I couldn't have had more personalized attention and it was one of my favorite shopping experiences...from 1000 miles away! I know she'll be thrilled with her gifts & appreciate Tina's going above & beyond to make her gift special in every way!!! Found a few cute items but service was terrible and felt a bit racist. I wasn't greeted or acknowledged while there were at least 3 girls working and it's not a big store. They did say welcome to several customers after me. I also felt a bit followed because they'd be always close to me and look at me but didn't say anything. (Someone else also said they felt followed in a previous review) One of the girls asked a couple right next to me if they needed help but still ignored me. Then as I was checking out, the girl training a new girl said "make sure you check all the inside of purses customers purchase because sometimes jewelry will fall in there" It felt weird. I probably shouldn't have bought stuff but I didn't want to let some immature girls keep me from something I wanted to purchase. I discovered this gem of a boutique while strolling down and it is one of my favorite stores!!! There are so many dainty necklaces, bracelets, and rings with all types of colors and designs. Perfect place to find a gift for someone you love! There's a little something in there for every taste. The price is wonderful for what you get. I do wish they carry smaller size rings, but I was able to find a couple that fit my skinny fingers. The customer service was awesome, she didn't bother me and let me take my time choosing all my items. Please carry more small ring sizes for petite fingers and I will always come back!!! read more

I was in shopping while waiting for a table at a nearby restaurant and found a ring that I ended up buying. On my way home I lost it somehow and called to see if I could buy a new one and have it mailed. Not only are they mailing a new one, but they are doing so free of charge. It wasn't long enough so we brought it back three days later with the receipt, and were told they only do exchanges and not even store credit. Walked in today with my daughter, there were two girls sitting at the front register, one was eating yogurtland and the other was on her phone. They were both just sitting talking to each other. Upon entering my daughter and I were both looked up and down, we were not greeted with even a smile nor a "hello". Walked around the store for about 10 minutes and these girls never once said a word to us. Didn't ask if we needed help or anything, they sat there and talked about how they just wanted to be "Instagram models", well ladies you work retail, and that means customer service, and this store is LACKING that. My daughter and I walked out and received yet another look from these girls looking us up and down. Extremely rude!! Would have shopped here for my daughter and I but I was concerned I might have to do some sort of self check out because these girls were NOT there to work. It's not social hour now, is it?
