If you've lived in Long Beach for any length of time, you undoubtedly know of Fingerprints. After 30+ years, it is undoubtedly the largest music store in Long Beach, and one of the largest in SoCal. We were there for Record Store Day. Loved the special deals they offered that day and having the chance to listen to a few bands over the course of the day (and get some merch signed!). I think their old store was better for listening, since there was a clear area for the audience--in the current store, we were tucked between shelves of merchandise--but it still worked and we had no problem seeing or hearing the bands. I particularly enjoyed seeing Violet Grohl and her band that day. Dave Grohl was there, but as a member of the audience. It was fun rocking out with him to his daughter's tunes (even if he was a couple of rows away). Love the staff. Rand, one of the owners, in particular, is incredibly knowledgeable. He also does a great job of lining up events and bands. We had such a great day at Fingerprints! read more

I've been a Fingerprints customer since moving to Long Beach in 2023 and have loved the 4th Street location. I've attended countless signings and performances, and I buy a vinyl there almost every month to keep growing my collection. As an LA native, I grew up going to the original Amoeba in Hollywood and continued shopping there after they moved to their current Hollywood Blvd location. I've always appreciated the events they host, and when I moved to LB, Fingerprints felt like LB's version of Amoeba because of its incredible lineup of signings and performances. Since moving to their new Bixby Knolls location, the event experience has taken a step backward. The new space isn't designed to accommodate the crowds these events attract. They proudly increase the vinyl prices for these events to pay for staffing these events while admission continues to be oversold. The result is an experience that feels more focused on maximizing attendance than ensuring fans can actually enjoy the event. I attended the Charli XCX Q&A yesterday, and the stage was so low that I couldn't see anything. Within two minutes of the event starting, I requested a refund because the room was clearly over capacity. Unless you were around 5'6" or taller, the only way to see Charli was through other people's phone screens. When I asked for a refund, the employee handing out vinyl records told me, "Well, it's a Q&A. The whole point is to listen." I respectfully disagreed. Seeing the artist is part of the experience, especially at an in-person event, but my refund request was denied. Even if the focus was solely on listening, the experience still fell short. Employee phone notifications were constantly going off and the front door opened every few minutes as employees loudly turned away customers because it was a private event, and outside street noise frequently overpowered the conversation. At times, I could hear phone notifications and traffic more clearly than Charli herself. I think Fingerprints hosts some of the best artist events and I want to see them succeed in their new location. The event setup needs to improve- a raised stage, better crowd management, clearer policies on phone usage, and limiting attendance to what the space can comfortably accommodate would go a long way toward creating an experience that matches the quality of the artists they bring in. read more

I was there for the first time this past Saturday for the Violet Grohl show. The band was amazing. The reason I'm giving two stars is because there was no line control outside. Patrons were cutting in line and arguing and no one from the store was helping. Employees were told several times and they just didn't seem to care and nothing was said to anyone causing the disturbances. When I called today and told the person about what went on, I believe he said his name was Brandon, he said that people need to be better in line and not cut because they were really busy and did their best. I went there to have fun and not to fend off people cutting in line or arguing with each other. Also, the reason I gave two stars is because I ordered an album online from their store that was exclusive to Record Store Day and the order went through and my credit card was charged. I was very excited since that album was sold out everywhere. Two days later, I get an email from Fingerprints saying they are out of stock and canceled the order. When I called and asked, the explanation was the "count was off" and they sold more than they had. My experience with this store has not been good except for the actual concert that took place inside of it. He said sorry you had a bad experience and that was that. No offer to try to get me the album I ordered. I also had to ask when I'll get my credit card charge back. I'm still unclear about that. Look, I know this store is busy and especially right now because of Record Store Day but to let customers order actually go through and for two days let them think they're getting what's sold out everywhere just to tell them oh we made a mistake with the count, is just not good business. Great selection, very expensive, website orders are basically like going into no man's land. You will get an order confirmation but that's it. Turns out the version I ordered was on backorder but they never sent me an update months later. I called and picked a different version and picked up my order shortly after that. The staff are nice and they've got a fun space. I'll definitely check it out for browsing in person again. read more

Fingerprints Music is one of the OG independent record shops in LB that has played a vital part in the SoCal music community. To get here, street parking will be your best bet and there is a good amount of it around the area. Inside, they have a pretty spacious setup with vinyls and CDs organized by genres and artists. They have an extensive selection compared to other local record shops. All of the staff here are very friendly and helpful. Records are priced fairly according to market price. I ended up copping some Gunna, Faye Webster, Mk.gee, and Chet Baker records that have been on my list and called it a day! read more

There was one time I went when they were selling highly offensive political t-shirts. Another time it was a sign on a cooler. What the hell was THAT about?! Just make it a friendly store for anyone to browse and buy records. It really sucks because this is one of my favorite record stores, with a huge collection of albums and singles going way back. Long overdue review, but Fingersprints is an absolute gem and staple to the music community in Long Beach and Southern CA! I really appreciate how hard they work to ensure the fans can actually have a chance to buy special items such as signed vinyls. For the first time in my life, I was able to get a signed vinyl (Sabrina Carpenter Fruitcake) because they have a system where fans must answer a few basic trivia questions. I was worried I wouldn't be able to since I'm not good at trivia, but IMO the questions were very reasonable and they gave us a couple of chances. They do this to prevent resellers and I'm so appreciative for this, because I'm unable to beat the bots online. I also feel their products are very reasonably priced and they post promotions and events on their social media. I can't believe that I haven't been to Fingerprints Music before. It reminds me of Amoeba because of the amount of record/cd/media selection and size of the store. No dedicated lot but found metered parking very easy across the street. Friendly staff. Prices are all over the place. Just the best place for vinyl, used CDs, used movies, and other collectibles in Long Beach. Nobody beats them! If you are lucky, you might get to attend one of their many amazing in-store performance and record release parties. Before the pandemic, we saw Violent Femmes, Dead Sara, Wolf Alice, and The Silversun Pickups. Typically, an album order is all you need to get inside. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, and for how MASSIVE the store space is, the prices are really not that bad. I scored 3 CDs for $3.99 each and a full Season 2 of The Simpsons for $6.99. I had a very disappointing experience at this event. The man handling the guest list, named Dan, yelled at me in front of multiple customers because I did not have a ticket for the signing. I completely understand that events require tickets and policies must be followed -- that was not the issue. My fiancé had purchased his own ln ticket and I was just attending to spend time. (was not expecting to get into signing) The issue was how the situation was handled. Being spoken to in a raised voice and embarrassed publicly was unnecessary and unprofessional. A simple explanation of the policy would have been more than enough. Customer service should always remain respectful, even when enforcing rules. I hope management addresses this so future guests are treated with courtesy. read more

New location, same great store. This review is long overdue for what is easily one of the best music stores in Southern California. There's a mix of cassettes, CDs, vinyl, and even DVDs for people wanting to something besides music. Staff are super friendly and knowledgeable. No elitism or snobbiness based on your music preferences, just enjoyment of music and different genres. Fingerprints also gets a good number of signed releases from a wide variety of artists. I've gotten signed vinyl/CDs for artists like Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Megan Thee Stallion, and Lady Gaga. These were all at a reasonable price, too. Fingerprints also hosts a lot of cool events like signings, smaller shows, and listening parties. I live in Orange County and regularly make the trek to Fingerprints. read more

She wasn't busy, but she was extremely rude extremely annoyed and not very helpful. She was rude, not just to me, but to another man who was just simply asking whether he needed to take off his backpack or show her his backpack because he says that some places required that, and she seemed so annoyed by that question brushed him off I was just waiting for her to roll her eyes. read more

I came to fingerprints for the first time on the last day they were open at this location. There were so many records and it was bigger than I expected it to be. There was a pretty good record selection, as they had all the artists I wanted; but the records were pretty overpriced. The service was friendly and I appreciated that they let you enjoy browsing without being in your business. I thought it was cool that they had other memorabilia such as posters, videos and shirts, besides just records, I plan to be back here when they open their new location, but I would definitely pick and choose which record I get here, knowing the price. read more

Extremely disappointed and frankly disgusted by the shady practices at Fingerprints. I came in shortly after Record Store Day to pick up a record I had reserved. While at the counter, I noticed a copy of the Wicked RSD exclusive vinyl sitting there in full view. I'd been hunting that release, so my partner politely asked about it. The cashier quickly shut us down and claimed it wasn't for sale. He said the store received four copies: sold two, raffled one, and that the final one--again, sitting openly on the counter--wasn't available. Then came the kicker: he asked what the record was going for online and looked it up on Discogs in front of us. That's when the situation went from disappointing to blatantly unethical. Gatekeeping sought-after RSD releases, flaunting them in plain view, and checking their resale value in front of paying customers isn't just unprofessional, it's exploitative. It completely goes against the values Record Store Day is supposed to stand for, not price-watching and hoarding exclusives for backdoor deals or personal profit. This store clearly puts hype and resale value above fairness and customer respect. I won't be returning and I'd advise any serious collector to think twice. read more

Fingerprints is an immersive record store where you can find great gems. Small artist come here to perform & do signings for fans. There is a great vibe and definitely a selective amount of value. The service was nice. I asked to use the restroom before the show started and was able to use the record stores restroom. Only thing I would recommend is for the record store (stage) to be higher elevated for a better view for everyone seeing the artist perform. read more

Been coming here a couple of times over the past few years. The place has always been clean, pretty organized, and personally feels like it's huge for a downtown record spot. The staff has always been insanely welcoming and ready to help out. Have found some really good deals, more specifically with CD's. Last time I came here, both the cashiers at the front were sweet to talk to, especially the girl with the cool glasses, she was sweet and cracking jokes. Every time I visit, I am impressed with their huge selection, and they have an amazing amount of high quality used and new/remastered records. Whenever I go there, I usually end up buying a favorite album of mine that I eagerly want to add to my collection or picking up a record that just happened to catch my eye while I was flipping through the stacks. They have very knowledgeable employees, and when I've asked them for help in the past, they patiently directed me to where I could find what genre of music I was seeking.
