After a bad experience at another comic book store and some Googling, I found myself at this place. Totally worth the extra 10 minutes I have to drive from my place. Walked in and straight away I was greeted kindly and asked if I needed help. Told them what I was looking for some manga & Hellboy/Invincible Ironman material and right away he was able to help me out. Unfortunately, the mangas (Boku No Hero Academia & One Piece) I was looking for were sold out or not in stock. Guy knew his stuff because apparently the wave of BNHA fans came and cleaned them out and after Anime Expo, there was a surge in popularity and sales. However, he didn't mind ordering it for me. Pretty nice guy to be quite honest. They have a whole wall dedicated to Funko Pops. I think I may have said something to him about these being the next currency after the apocalypse. He laughed and agreed. He pretty much knew that because Hollywood makes movies from comics doesn't necessarily mean that people would want to read them and they had to make money somehow. Which I totally get. :-D I was also surprised at the amount of merch they had. Other places I have been to are usually just a few figurines and shirts, but this place had much more (surprisingly more than I thought a place like this would have). I called in to see if they would have copies of a comic in store that was being released the next day, the guy I spoke to on the phone (super sorry I don't remember your name!) offered to keep on on hold for me because they were going to have a limited supply. When I came in to pick up the comic all of the staff was super friendly and I was in and out in minutes. This comic shop is ok, they do have lots of stuff. One of the thing I dislike about comic books stores is when they charge you for bag & board, like they did at this place $0.25 cents.. I took some variants cover to the counter and the guy charged me and I was like why are this comics $5.99 each and he tell all variants are $5.99. So told him "but they are not mark at this price... he was well there are, so I just took my comic and my tail between my legs.. 1. I took a star for the bag and board 2. This place used to be my family and I's top go comic book store, but we have seen some differences in the past few months. They have bumped up their prices recently. I also haven't seen the nice guy who used to work here (not sure if he still does), that guy was really helpful and welcoming whenever we came through. The guy who we see now every time we come in isn't as welcoming, doesn't even acknowledge us or say hi. Last time we were here, I told my kids to look around and grab a toy they want (like we do whenever we're here) , the guy seemed annoyed as my kids were looking around the toy section, constantly looking and watching them. I was a few feet away from my son, when I saw the guy who was working say something to him, It was quick and I didn't really catch what the guy said, but I saw my son's face, and it changed from happy to being uncomfortable, I saw him put back a toy he was holding back in the shelf, then he stopped looking through the toys. I asked my son what it was about but he wouldn't tell. Told me it was nothing. I didn't like that, so we left very shortly after, empty handed and went to a different comic bookstore instead to get their toys. Idk how to feel about this store now. read more

Had a bad experience won't be coming back to this place (when supporting small business Goes bad) as a gamer went to buy a high anticipated comic ( fortnite) for myself and at that time I had asked for 4 because there is multiple gamers in my house hold, I was declined because the owner stated that it was one per customer and ended up with only one which was ok later that day one of my kids got out of school and asked to pick up the comic he went in excited and grabbed the comic off the shelf and waited to buy as we were next the lady asked if I was in earlier and to be honest I said yes but I brought in my son so he can buy his copy and the owner talks under his breath saying we won't sell to him unfortunately, as we're next he then proceeds to talk to my son and give him some bad news ( that they couldn't sell it to him because I bought my earlier and that I should give it to him) and I'm like wow you don't consider children customers and he said no after that I was dumb founded that as a small business owner you would let down a small purchase to a child just because of a easy previous purchase then he started to raise his voice getting all upset because I gave him push back claiming Im scalping he then changed his wording to one per household not per customer, at this point I'm upset because the owners refused to sell one comic to a child and insulted me by assuming something I'm not believe me this is the last time I'll be coming here I'll find another business that will be glad to take my money no matter how much they jack the price up and A WORD TO THE OWNERS yall need to reconsider how to approach this because next time you might just offend the wrong person and might handle it way differently then I did . Lately I learned the difference between a good comic book shop and great one with just one series: Dark Knights Metal. Here's my comic store review series #1! This is my local shop and I came here a few times for random gifts, but after searching for a specific book, I have a better understanding. First of all, this is a good store! They have everything from single issue books new and old, to collections, to toys/ collectibles, to trading cards, to shirts. Pretty standard, but all good so far. Now here's where they get faulted. Maybe you should Google Dark Knights Metal before you proceed, but if not, let's jump in. Dark Knights Metal is a new series from super prestigious authors and artists happening right now for DC comics. When I originally came here during Christmas, I asked for what would've been the 3rd book maybe at that point and they informed me they only get about 10 copies of metal books with 11 customers waiting in line, so good luck or happy hunting online. I asked if they had any books and they said yeah but a tie in, prob not the one you want or looking for. (It was a foil cover, 1st printing now worth triple cover price at time of this review). So I said thanks and left. Now I'm looking for these books, newest one came out on 3/28 and I got two copies from here and took their recommendation to heart about looking online rather than looking for other stores. Store is pretty large with a great selection for NCBD and plenty of recent releases. There are large tables for playing card games in the middle of the store. Looks like a fun place to hang out. Best part is they open late until about 10 pm. Front of the store had a bunch of dollar or so bin books but they're basically all modern books. There are boxes under those and when I asked an employee about it he just told me I'm not allowed to look at them. Didn't really say why. There was no real silver or bronze age books to hunt either. read more

My all-time favorite comic book shop. I feel like family every single time I go. I'm a member so I get a pull list, and they remember my name even though it's complicated, haha. Sometimes I even bring the owner food when I get out of work! They remember things about me like my college life and such. It's just a really great place to go and shop. OPENS LATE!!!!! One of the best thing about this spot! You know most comic spots opens late and closes early..but this one closes at MIDNIGHT! Which has been such a convenience since I get off after hours. It's nice to still go straight home and relax for a little bit and have dinner. Then shortly after, head out without rushing and still have enough time to look around. They have pretty much everything you would need or looking for. Ive been playing with my GF's 11 yr old boy and we had a blast! 10-20 min games depending on the rolls. They also have awesome deals on their 50% off table and a 15% discount if youre a member. Let me start off by saying I truly gave this place a chance. They simply don't cut it in every aspect. Let's begin! Selection: If you don't have a pull and are not there by 10 AM Wednesday there really is no point in coming here. Whatever you wanted will be gone by the time you get off work. They have an extremely limited number of major titles and indie comics. They order little to no variants. They have a tiny selection of back issues. If you did not buy an issue within the same month, say goodbye you missed it. They have a poor selection of trade paperbacks and hardcovers. Although, I did purchase most of the Preacher volumes there. Customer Service: This is something that really bugs me about this place. Their employees are not helpful, rude, and look like they don't want to be there at all. You come in they greet you with a pissed off look in their face. No knowledge whatsoever. I went in with a buddy and he asked if they had anymore copies of Clone #1 while pointing at the promotional poster for it. The worker said, "Cologne, nah we don't have that one". My friend repeated, Clone while again pointing to the poster. The guy went back glanced and said they were out. I don't know how many times I've walked in being the only customer there, the employee sees me. I get my stuff and go to the counter and the worker knowing that I'm the only one there doesn't come to the front. I've had to walk to the back to tell them I'm ready to check out. Prices: This REALLY pisses me off. They charge $20 a year for pulls. Unbelievable! Beach Ball, Phat Collectibles, Comic Bug - free! In fact, Phat Collectibles gives you 20% off new comics if you are in their pull system. They charge .25 for board and bag. Comics aren't cheap nowadays and adding .25 to each purchase, c'mon! They tried charging my buddy $50 for Superior Spider #1 Quesada Variant. Beach Ball sold it for $40! I understand that this is a small place that has a hard time competing with bigger stores but they give you absolutely no incentive to return. Simply put, they flat out suck! I've stopped by Metropolis Comics on more than one occasion, because it's the closest shop to where I live and I like supporting local small businesses. However, it's never provided the type of great service and experience that everyone else has seemed to have had. I wrote off the other bad interactions I've had at Metropolis, giving the shop the benefit of the doubt that it's really not very good. The truth is it's just not. The shop owner, for example, seems to be a friendly man with a love for comics--just like me. Although, he does a fantastic job at belittling people who either do not have the same taste as him or if they don't meet his moral code. Now, everyone's entitled to their own opinions, but there's a big difference between a recommendation and flat out telling customers that their choices are "nasty" and "belong behind a liqueur store counter with the pornos." That's terrible customer service. I noticed that the shop owner had a cross necklace and decided it wasn't worth the argument. He clearly doesn't care enough about the content of the comic book to not sell it in his shop--that's his own "moral" problem. I'd also like to add as a young woman I've been treated as though I don't belong in such an environment and when I do happen to ask questions I'm treated as though I'm a complete moron. All my questions tend to be are confirmations that they're out of certain titles, which they never seem to have enough copies of. I hate to give this place a bad review, but I feel like comic book shops are supposed to be a safe place for geeks like me. We should all be supporting each other, it comes down to the fact that we love and appreciate the art of comic books. Metropolis Comics is an awesome comic book store! I love getting my comics here. I can usally spend hours looking at their selection and the staff are all pretty friendly to me. I collect certain issues but I am far from being a hardcore collector. My questions can get annoying sometimes but the workers here are extremely helpful. I don't get attitudes here like other comic book stores. Important : If you don't see it in the store, you can order from them online. I bought a lot of my comics from them online. They also have a cool member program where you get a 10% discount off all purchases. Trust me, it adds up if you are collector. Also members get double the amount of comic books on the yearly "Free Comic Book Day". Woot! :-) Also they usually [[don't charge for the yearly Previews and Marvel Now Previews. You can get a pull list setup pretty easily. They post all the new comics that come in every week up on the wall. They also post the 3 previous weeks in case you missed them still at cover price. Ooooh, I like the wall full of t-shirts! I believe they get new ones in every month or so it seems. They have a good amount of statues and action figures if you are into that too. I usually am scared going into places like this because my lack of comic book knowledge is very evident. That feeling quickly went away when we were greeted by a nice man at the door. He was talking to my youngest son. We told him it was my family's first time at his store and the worker said, "Oh, you get a free comic book." My son's first comic book (Kung Fu Panda) was a very nice gift. The thing that I liked about the place is that everything from classic to new comics is easy to find. There are labels so you know where and what to look for. They had a nice book section where several comics are put together in a book. I also liked the fact that the worker was very knowledgeable and he shared very understandable information to people that don't know comics like me. I think he was the owner, but because of him I don't mind going all the way to Bellflower to buy from his store. read more

This is a great place in Bellflower. I used to come here all the time but I moved to Brea some time ago so it's super difficult for myself to go there even half as much as I used to. Okay let me go over the good about this place: - There is a HUGE selection of trade paperbacks, action figures, novelty t-shirts, and individual comic issues, both back issues and new. - There are magic the gathering games often run in the store by employees. I'm not a fan of the game but I know there are lot who are. - Mike is very resourceful about comics, especially DC. He keeps up to date on everything, ESPECIALLY DC. - There is an annual membership fee that gives you a 20% discount on everything you buy for the year and you get a pull list spot in their cubbies behind the register. - His employees are pretty cool and nice and they help you. Not just personality-lacking drones like a lot of comic book stores have. I swear other comic book shops need to learn from this and not hire just regular idiots without personality. Comic book stores are also in need of good customer service presentation because they're also a type of retail store! - They are open LATE. Most comic book shops close at 6pm, 7pm latest. The store is open til like 11pm almost every day. - When you pre-order something, you don't have to pay in advance like some shops make you do. Just tell them what you want ordered if they don't have it and they can order it from diamond distributors and they will get it within 2-3 weeks. - Make sure you check when they order something from Diamond for you because sometimes it comes with a bend or a tear that they couldn't catch from initial visual checks. Not their bad it's more a shipping thing. I bought one once and they were nice enough to offer to ship it back even after I got it, but i didn't do it I just kept it but normally condition is everything. And that's why I put it in the good category cuz they were nice enough to take it back even after I already had it home for a day. The not as good: - Like any other comic book shop when you pre-order something, you have to wait. However, they do NOT call you to let you know it's there when it comes so you have to check once you reach the 2 week mark of waiting. I waited too long once and they ended up putting it back onto the shelf and someone bought it within a day so I had to repeat the cycle again. - The location is in downtown Bellflower so it's like a 1950s style layout. Parking is annoying. Unless you get the spots in front of the store which are great when I DO get one, you'll have to walk a little. - It's too far from me now. I mean it was far when I was still living in Fullerton, but really far now that I live in Brea. But that's just a stupid little annoyance that's not their fault lol. Anyway I just wanted to say for the record that I have been annoyed that they don't call me when stuff I ask for comes and have kinda made it a little too clear that I felt that way. However, I can understand why they don't. I wish they did. But I was being unfair. This store is great. Mike is a great guy. His employees are all great and they have a lot more than most comic book shops have. They make sure you get whatever you ask for asap if it's available to be ordered by Diamond. So I apologize for feeling that way and I thank you guys for doing a great service to all of us nerds out in socal. read more

What began as a mild interest has grown into a "healthy" obsession and to think I have jury duty to thank for because it if wasn't for the re-scheduling of the day and location, I would have never discovered this lovely comic book store. Where to begin? The staff is nice and friendly especially Flynn who seems down to Earth and takes his time with every customer especially if the customer simply wants to discuss current pop culture phenomenons. They recently changed their Wednesday opening time from 11am to 10am since Wednesday is New Comic Book Day so I am grateful for that since I can simply wake up and hop on the 105-E and dive myself into the stories from Marvel, DC and the rest... They also have this enticing discount membership for $20 you receive 10% off of your purchases along with a pull system so you won't miss any of your issues and an extra 20% off on your birthday, and what person doesn't want to spend their birthday in a comic shop?! One of the reasons why I love this comic shop is because you're not treated like a noob and suddenly feel the judgment from the generic "I'm better than you simply because I like the British version of The Office more than the American" associate. I feel comfortable to ask questions that in other shops I would feel embarrass to ask. All in all, Metropolis is a great place so avert your gaze!! read more

Metropolis Comics is oh so very far from me, but it is another comic book store that I have stumbled upon that I must venture back to. The number one thing you will notice about Metropolis Comics is the awesome, and I mean AWESOME customer service. The two workers that were there are the time were really amazing with one of the children that was walking around with their guardians. Two separate children got free comics in fact too. What really surprised me was that the comics weren't the usual free comic book day books, but actual retail comics. WOW. I don't know if they were trying to get a yelp reviewers attention, but they did it. I ended finding a hard to find issue, and a great discount on an awesome Daredevil variant. What happened? Moving back to the area in my mid 20's, I thought to myself, why not leave behind my Amazon friend and begin supporting local comic shops once again. With never having any decent shops near my previous residencies and the nostalgia of once a week pickups after school, my hopes were high. Boy, was I wrong. Curiously popping in on a random day, what do I find after no greeting from a single worker? A wall of shirts, a bunch of older guys sitting at a table, and some adventure time action figures, all scattered around a couple graphic novels and some 1.00 single issues. Boring. Seems their creating room for "Geek Chic". So why not order a graphic novel from the clerk I had been planning on ordering from Amazon anyways? Again. Probably another mistake. I ordered this book on the 9th of May and barely received it about 15 minutes ago. During the just shy of a month wait for something I could have handled myself and only waited 3 days, I called twice to only be bombarded with an answer for every question except the simple one I was asking; "Could you guys just give me a call when it comes in?" Even when it came in, I had to call myself to check on the progress. It really makes me wonder. How long would I have been waiting if I never called? I really get that it DOES take time and when a business is undergoing internal changes, things can get a bit messy but is it really that hard to think, "Hey, we got something in the mail. Better check up on this." I've worked at record stores and have had delays on certain items but you know what I did to keep that customer coming back? A 5 minute phone call explaining what's the business. I probably wont be returning anytime soon but honestly, I know I won't be missed and would prefer it that way. Thanks for the book. read more

A HUGE selection of weekly single issues from every major publisher: DC, MARVEL, Image, BOOM!, IDW, Top Cow, Dark Horse, etc. Plus graphic novels and a "history wall" above the single issues that has all the major events in order from DC & Marvel over the past ten years. I go every week (much to my wife's dismay)! They are going to redisplay the t-shirt wall with tons of new designs - also toys, & statues are in-stock. Metro is the best in the area! Evidently they don't like players from other stores or people who ask questions about prizing of events. I remember the first day I decided to come here... The Edge of Spiderverse issue #2 (The first appearance of SpiderGwen!!!) had just been released and I couldn't find it anywhere. In fact, I called a few places and got laughed at for asking if they had it in stock. But, not here. Mike picked up and said they had plenty and to drop on by. That i did! I was extremely impressed with their customer service . They were friendly and knowledgeable. They explained what was going on in the a Spider Verse and got me hyped enough to even open a pool box/membership with them (for a small fee). The benefits of the membership kept me hooked. I get discounts off of merchandise and in the long run the membership paid for itself. The staff has changed quite a bit in the last year and a half that I've been visiting them but Mike and Angel have been always been around. Two of the coolest comic book guys I've ever met. And let's not forget about Purple... she's super amazing and has made a great place, even better. She called me today to update some of my box info and it pushed me to write this review because of how cool she is!!! Lastly, their selection is great!!! Comics, Tshirts, collectable, and so much more. I always want to buy more and have to control myself a bit. This will continue to be my "go-to" place for long time. Metropolis Comics Rocks! Great selection of new and old comics along with trade paperbacks. They also run a Kids club which allows my comic crazy 7 year old daughter to get her Tiny Titans fix and get rewarded for it. The store is great and all, but for me what genuinely makes this place standout is the guys running it. Mike, the store manager is a LEGEND! Always friendly and able to help. Angel and Eric are also super cool and able to answer questions you might have without making you dumb.
