Metropolis Comics Rocks! Great selection of new and old comics along with trade paperbacks. They also run a Kids club which allows my comic crazy 7 year old daughter to get her Tiny Titans fix and get rewarded for it. The store is great and all, but for me what genuinely makes this place standout is the guys running it. Mike, the store manager is a LEGEND! Always friendly and able to help. Angel and Eric are also super cool and able to answer questions you might have without making you dumb. This store has a lot of stuff. It's really deep and comics line the walls on both sides. New releases are toward the back. Parking is street, but during the day it seemed okay. There is a lot across the street. The workers really like comics. They were able to talk to me about the stuff I'd been reading and steer me toward some new comics, which I didn't get (I'm getting too many, right now and need to cut back). They have a membership program which seemed like a good thing. It was something like $15 or $25 a year, I don't remember which, but they'd hold comics for you (which can be great for those 1st printings that sell out quickly) and give you a discount. It seems like there is gaming that happens sometimes? There was a table in the center and some pieces, so they might do that too. I've always been a little interested in the tabletop RPGs so I might check that out. Great store, definitely going every few weeks for new releases. read more

Comic book stores have a certain level of negative stigma attached to them in popular culture. When most think of a comic store, the first thing that comes to mind is the Android's Dungeon and the Comic book guy from the Simpsons. Metropolis strives in working to go against this stereotype and make the comic book store a place where nerds and geeks can come together and have a sense of community, all the while making the comic book world a lot less intimidating for the noobs and Poozers. The store itself is situated in a nice section of Bellflower, and is very welcoming, both inside and out. It is very spacious and bright, something I find to be lacking in many stores. Inside, they have just about everything a comic book reader could want, from their wonderfully organized new comics shelf to their fun selection of geek fashion that could be used to show off that geek pride. Metropolis also has a huge selection of back stock comics and tradebacks, and if they don't have it, the employees will do their best to order and get you what you want ASAP. They really do justice to the new image of the modern comic store. The Metropolis employees are all very friendly and professional. They each know their comic book history and there is a surprising amount of diversity in their comic choices, which is very helpful for this looking for unique and non-superhero titles. Again, the staff at Metropolis is very helpful and welcoming to new readers. I myself have made many new good friends at the store. One thing that really sets Metropolis apart and keeps bringing me back to the store is their efforts in really bringing a sense a community to their customers. They have many great events at the store, such as artist signings and Magic gatherings, and always try their hardest to make it really interesting. The store has even recently started a monthly Comic Book club that was surprisingly intellectually stimulating. For their regulars, they provide a store membership that gives customers a pull list and discounts on almost everything in the store. Metropolis is a wonderful comic book store. Keep in mind that they are very professional and run their store as such. If you're looking for a place to haggle, this is not the store. This is in no way a negative towards the store. I very much appreciate their professionalism and that they treat each and every customer with the same amount of respect, from hardcore nerd to hipster poozer. I love Metropolis and love heading there Wednesdays for new comic book day to just hangout with great friends. If you're looking a comic book store, there is nowhere else I would recommend. This is my all time favorite comic book store. Everyone is helpful. And to be honest, it sucks being a girl into comic when you have to deal with jerks who think I know nothing of them and don't even bother to look my way, let alone ask if I need help. But here, I get a hello, how is everything going. And if I plan it right, they have free popcorn. Yum! Also, if they can order it for you, usually they will. And the employee picks of the month are great starting places for people looking for something new. The only thing is I wish the drivers in the area were a bit nicer. I had a very decent experience trading in comic books with the weekend manager and called today to bring over a long box of comics. The assistant told me this was Saturday and Saturday is the day they bought comic books so yes I should bring my comic books down today. He said it just like that. I drove 10 miles of street traffic to find the store was ground zero at the big Bellflower Car Show. The street was blocked off and I couldn't get a mile near the place. I called back and the kid told me they didn't know until yesterday. Really... When I said that when I called 30 minutes ago he could have told me, he babbled a few random sounds of not caring enough to say something and then a yelled a few choice words at him for wasting my time. The manager was nice so deal with him if you go. The assistant is a dullard. The worst was his uncaring indifference to me driving out for nothing. read more

Although they didn't have one of the issues of Bob's Burgers I was hoping to get, they did have two other ones and the sales attendant went out of her way to check in with me and see that I back order the issue if I wanted to. It's close to home, parking is always plenty and the atmosphere is welcoming. My new go to spot for sure! read more

Love this place! I've been going here for about a year now and they've been nothing short of awesome every time I go. A super friendly staff, a great selection of books, and a pretty nice membership deal is just a fraction of what they have to offer. They usually have holiday sales which really brings down the prices for variants and trade paperbacks which makes for a nice splurge to buy stuff or even give as a gift. You guys rock! read more

This place is definitely one of the best comic book stores around. It's always stocked with a wide selection of popular titles new and old. The staff is extremely friendly and they give A+ quality customer service everytime you walk in the door. They are die hard comic fanatics themselves so it really shows that they really enjoy working there. They have this pretty cool pull system which lets you reserve comic books for yourself without the risk of missing out on a sell out issue. It does cost $20 for membership but you get 10% off every purchase along with a free previews catalog to let you know if stuff that is coming up in case you want to preorder stuff. They also often have artists and writers come to do store signings. I heard that the store is under new ownership, but the staff has said nothing but nice things about the new owner who used to be a customer there himself. I stopped by and didn't see any noticeable changes at all. They did tell me that the new owner wanted to upgrade the shop by making it a little cooler and that his ideas were good for the store and the customers, so I am interested in seeing whats coming up. read more

This is, hands down, the best place to get your comics. I have gone to other places around this area but none stack up to Metropolis Comics! As soon as you walk in you are always greeted and if you are having trouble someone is usually nice enough to help out. They are fully stocked with the popular items but if you cant find something they are willing to special order it for you. Overall, the service and products are what bring me back each week. As cool as this shop wouldve been for me, i did not get to experience it. Why? Because i waited 40 minutes outside parked across the street for it to open. Why have business hours posted if you are not going to open at those stated times? I understand being 10 minutes late but 40 and possibly more? (Left after 40 min). I was not the only one waiting, there were more people. And p.s they have a sign up on their door stating they will open at 10am soon, why? If you cant commit to opening at 11am why promise the consumer another lie about the hours. read more

I went to try Thai Smile a mile or two away and decided to look up comic book stores in the area and this place came up. The store is easy to find being right off Bellflower. It's really clean and organized and I loved that it was nice and cold, since Southern California is currently experiencing a heat wave. The guy running the shop was pleasant and talkative and made me feel welcomed. Even knowing I wasn't from the area he wasn't dismissive like other places tend to be if they think you might not come back. I liked that the comics are scanned at the register because I've been overcharged before in other shops that simply do a manual tally. Awesome comic book store! The staff are really funny and nice. Both employees greeted me the instant I walked in. They have a huge variety of comics. I originally walked in to find a comic book on Aquaman, but then got distracted by all the cool toys, shirts, and cool posters they had. Very big selection on almost anything. I went here for the first time yesterday (7/1/15) with 2 of my sons and my wife. When I walked in, we walked right pass the staff and not a word was said. Which I thought was weird but whatever. My son had a few questions and one of the employees was very helpful so I'm glad my first impression was off. The staff is very helpful and the cashier greeted us when we got to the front of the line. I'm not trying to sound like a little whiny girl but I think it's important to be greeted when you enter someone's place of business. Their selection of comic books is very well organized and they have some pretty cool shirts for sale, we bought 3 of them. We'll be back if my kids ask to be taken back. This was my attempt to get them into comic books. They offer some kind of membership here that gives you an additional discounts. Check this place out. read more

This is one of the coolest comic book stores. I'm a huge sucker for 1 dollar long boxes, They have a good amount that took me 30 mins of scanning through to find a few great gems. While I was doing that my boyfriend was going through all the normal single issues, Which I plan on going back since they had such a wide variety and I want to spend some time with those wonderful long boxes. Haha. Anyways, after 2 hours and 70 bucks, my boyfriend and I walk away with some great comics, pins and even bag and board. Which was such a great price! I plan on going back more often!!!! Worth the drive! Even though I moved away I still come here! I was relatively new to comics when my local shop closed & google sent me here. They explained pull boxes to me & how things worked. Years later I'm still here. Occasionally I'll try someplace closer but it's just not the same. These guys know me by sight even though I only show up every few months or so. They have great selections of comics & have no issue with ordering something even if it's not popular. They have figurines, shirts, collectibles, card games & many other things for sale. Great shop. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Great item selection. If there is a title or item not in stock they will special order it. I highly recommend the membership service that is offered. In addition to receiving special member discounts, your titles are pulled for you the day they are released so you never have to worry about a title selling out. He tends to look for golden age and silver age comics whenever he gets an opportunity to find a new comic book store. We thought it was weird that you have to ask to see their back issues so we decided not to. He did pick up a few issues of current series he's reading. I am not really into comic books, but I do like all the merchandise that they have available, especially the Wonder Woman items. Let's face it, if you're a girl, comic book stores are not always the most welcoming of places to feed your inner geek. Some tend to feel like insular fanboiy clubs in which girls are still "icky". Not so here. I often come to browse and everytime I do the staff is really great. I don't know all their names but they are very friendly and know their stuff. After browsing the store for a few minutes waiting for someone to ask me if I needed help,I walked up to the register to ask for a deal on one of the DC covergirls statues.l was then told they don't do that,with a some what offended stare on his face,so I asked "can you ask the owner"?,Once again with a stare only comic shop workers can give I was told "we don't do that". This is a terrible place to go to if you're a casual comic fan such as myself. The selection for accessories is atrocious, and the customer service is just terrible. Every time I ask a question, I get an answer in a tone of voice that makes it seem like I insulted them. This place is a total hidden gem if you are into comics. I originally came here to get sleeves for some cards i had and needed to be placed away. .25cents a sheet of 9 slots so will hold about 18 cards. Not a bad deal. But if you are spending less then ten dollars you better have cash. Minimum to use a card is $10 here. Sucks They couldn't make an exception but its ok I guess. In the back was a long table full of comic book fanatics so Im sure if you're lost, you have plenty of people to help you. Everyone seemed extremely nice and the place is well kept.
