As good as you've heard. We had dinner and couldn't wait to go back for breakfast. We had the Pot Roast which as tender and flavorful, the Chicken Pot Pie was also delicious. Delicious!!! Stopped here today for lunch with my sister and nephew. We had the turkey plate, Philly, and kids tender plate. Everything was delicious and their portions are huge. My turkey was moist, mashed potatoes homemade, and the squash was sautéed just right. My only regret was I didn't get to try the homemade pot pie. Service quite literally could not have been better. Came in at 7:45 (they close at 8:30) and was greeted at our table by the manager. It was our first time in so we were briefed on the history and his favorite dishes. He was so kind, and very obviously did not mind answering any questions we had and 100% wanted to make sure we were satisfied. To our surprise, he had sent a small bowl of the shrimp & grits for us to try. We were so happy to try it and so GRATEFUL! He truly went above and beyond. Our waitress, Kaiah, (spelled the exact same as our dog's) was so sweet and helpful. Shrimp & Grits- the sample he gave us was delicious and we will be getting it another night. They are grit cakes, not loose grits, and SO GOOD. The ham and bacon in it were delicious and didn't have weird funky chewy bits, just good pieces. French Dip & Macaroni Cheese- sandwich was huge.. I would say a foot-long. Roast beef was tender and again, no weird funky chewy bits, just the good stuff. I'm a mac and cheese snob, and I was so happy with it. It was delicious, and I'll be getting it again. My husband had some sort of breakfast plate and ate every bit. We will 100% be regulars here now. I'm sad we haven't been here sooner. We came here after leaving a different breakfast establishment where we had a bad experience. We were quickly put on a waitlist, there was complimentary coffee outside, seated so quickly, and Sasha took great care of us. This restaurant operated very smoothly which was obvious from the tables turning quickly, food coming out fast, we were asked by multiple staff if we needed anything. There seemed to be a lot of buzz about this place when it first opened, especially since there are so many locations in the Jax area. The wife and I decided to wait a while for the lines to die down before stopping in- and I will say the food lived up to the hype. Not the most amazing dining experience I've ever had but the food was delicious and it felt like a diner atmosphere. We seemed to time it right for both our dinner and breakfast trips, as it wasn't terribly busy. There is plenty of parking available, but the wait can be pretty bad during peak hours. There are plenty of tables inside, as well as a nice dining area outside, although beware if you eat outside for breakfast, you may want to make sure the shades are drawn, as the sun will beat directly onto you! Service has been great every time we've eaten there. The breakfast is great, lots of great options along with the classics, but the chicken and waffles are outstanding. I especially loved the spicy strawberry butter on the side. The size of the servings are ridiculous for the price you pay. You will not leave hungry, I assure you. I have yet to try their burgers or sandwiches, although it is definitely on my list! I did try the chicken pot pie and it was pretty darn good. The crust was flaky and buttered just right, and it was a nice mix of gravy, meat, and vegetables inside. I really enjoyed every meal that I've eaten at this place. Good food, great service, and cool atmosphere. Also extra points for being clean in the restaurant and restrooms. Will definitely be back. read more

Was there Sunday for lunch, don't order the soup! Chili was very spicy, nose ran after 1 bite! Sent it back and got the chicken noodle. It was warn noodles with a spoon of something in the middle that may have day some chicken in it. Could not eat it. Waitress asked if we were done with the soup and took it away. Only downside is the hovering over the table, and when they slap the check down before you even swallow your last bite. I am very pleased with out experience here at the Metro Diner. Came to the st Augustine location for brunch with three friends. We were told there was a 15-20 min wait but it really ended up being about 8 mins which is fine. We started out with waters n coffees (they have a snickerdoodle coffee my friend got) and we mentioned my friend was next door picking up champagne as the restaurant is BYOB, the waitress brought us a large glass of orange juice on the house which I thought was very courteous. When it was time to order, I asked for a Pot Roast meal, which they were out of, so I got the Turkey Plate instead. My plate consisted of slabs of turkey, zucchini and squash, and oven roasted red potatoes, with house made bread on the side. It was excellent, I enjoyed the char on the side and very wholesome flavor. My friends got the Pittsburgh sandwich which was a pastrami, coleslaw, egg, lettuce, tomato, and fries sandwich, with onion rings on the side, he said it was "dank AF". Amanda got a spicy honey chicken biscuit along with a side salad, she said the sandwich wasn't too spicy but she added the house datil hot sauce which made it a good temperature. She described them as divine. Corrine got the meat loaf plate, which was flavorful, w perfect amount of char and crunch, especially good with the datil sauce, she said the gravy tasted better than it looked. Almost as good as mama could make it. Food took a bit to come out, maybe fifteen to twenty minutes, but was well worth it. Fairly cheap, around $10 for the entrees. Good service. Went to early lunch at Metro diner in St Aug.at 11:00 before lunch rush. Took 30 minutes to get cold fries, cold onion rings, cold burger, and cold Ruben. Walked out the door decided if it took that long to get cold hot food, it would take an hour to get a cold live manager. Not worth the time. read more
