This sub shop across from Culver's has been a favorite for years. It had been a while since we ate there -- the building was traffic cone orange the last time we visited and is now a more sedate beige -- but it's still as good as always. They have hot and cold subs, paninis and flatbreads. I had the Boss Man hot sub with ham, turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, jalapeños and mustard. My son had the roasted turkey cold sub with provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, onions and mayonnaise. We got the order to go but the dining area is large and decorated with Americana. The employees are friendly and on top of things. Pub subs get all the hype in this town but I like Old City better. read more

Also being a Veteran, This is the second time this kind of thing has happened with the delivery driver; it's disrespectful and insulting, the first time they wrote "tip your driver" with a frown face. As a business owner myself it's up to the employer of an establishment to take care of their own staff with salary, not the customer to feel uncomfortable being forced to tip with comments being left like this. This sandwich this time had ants all over it and was left on the ground in front of the door outside instead of on the railing like it normally is. It was left like that intentionally, and it's not able to be fed to my 3 years old daughter today for lunch.D isgusting customer service happening for the second time, I will not be ordering from here again. My husband and I tried Old City Subs today. This was our first time. I would say that this is an average sub place. I got the meatball sub w provolone and my husband got the Dagwood. The meatballs on my sandwich were barely above room temp - certainly not warm enough to melt the cheese; one of the 4 meatballs was burned on a side so I had to take that off (it was hard and not chewable). My husband enjoyed his sub, so that was good. When we arrived there were 4 employees in view and no customers (we had a late lunch so not unexpected). As we entered and gazed at the board, no one welcomed us or offered suggestions. We approached the counter and placed our order, ate in the dining area, cleaned up our table, and refilled our drinks. As we left there was another (not one of the original 4 we entered to) employee seated by the door - no 'thank you for coming' or even 'goodbye'. I'll preface this by saying I live about 25 minutes from Old City Subs and chose delivery service and ordered this sandwich on a whim in addition to my standard Ham & Cheese. Delivery was flawless! Warm sub was warm, cold sub, cold. The chicken though! Juicy, fresh, seasoned perfectly and the green peppers were cooked perfectly. Substituted pepper jack and highly recommend. This used to be a staple location for my family... but we just went back after a short time away, and discovered their prices have gone way up. We used to get a large Reuben for a reasonable price that would feed you for two meals. Now it's over $10 for a "large" Reuben that comes with nothing additional and isn't quite enough for a single meal. For the increased cost, we don't think it's worth the price anymore. On a recent lunch excursion, I was in the mood to try something new... Tired of Subway and Quiznos, I was looking for a GOOD sub, and based on a few recommendations from friends, (and being surprised that this place had not been reviewed yet on Yelp) I stopped into Old City. Located on US1, near the Old Moultrie intersection, I walked into a wide open, retro looking dining area. For some reason, I was expecting a small shop, with a few tables sitting next to a large deli counter, but this place has tons of tables, and a large counter with lots of space to order. The menu is pretty impressive, a LOT of both hot and cold subs, a bunch of good looking salads and pitas, soups, and even homemade desserts! I had a really tough time deciding which sandwich I wanted to go with, but I ended up choosing the Chicken Cordon Bleu for lunch, and an Italian to go (so I could have it for dinner at work). After placing my order, I grabbed my drinks and headed to my seat. The food was delivered to my table about 3 minutes later, and it was AWESOME. The chicken was cooked just right, juicy and tender, and the ham and cheese really kicked it up. Throw in the mayo and spices, freshly cooked bread, and you've got yourself one humdinger of a good sandwich. I couldn't wait to devour the Italian for dinner that night, which was also spectacular. The meats were fresh, sliced right, and the toppings of fresh veggies, mayo, and italian dressing really made the sandwich pop. After finishing my lunch, the worker came from behind the counter to talk to me about how everything was, then picked up all the trash to take it to the trash can, even after I told him I would do it myself. Can't beat service like that in a place like this! A lot of other folks in the area must know, too, as I noticed a lot of people stopping in, and also noticed a LOT of orders being taken out and delivered (Free delivery in a 2 mile radius). They also offer up party subs and drinks for your next big get together! Overall, I loved this place. The food was spectacular, the service was amazing, and there's still about 20 different subs I want to try. I would give it five stars, except it can be a bit pricey. You're looking at about $7.00 for a large sub here, and it certainly isn't a footlong, you can definitely get more food for your money at Subway or Quiznos, however you will NOT get a better tasting hoagie or better service, that's for sure. Will definitely be back, and I recommend this place to anyone looking to grab a delicious, quick lunch or dinner. The bomb! read more
