Chicken Phō
Farrah B.

The service was phenomenal here, and the ambiance was A1, but my food was laclyster to say in the least. My original choice of seafood spup contained pork in the broth (many dishes did) sp my choices were limited. At the insistence of my friend and the server, i went with the chicken Phò. Ughhh.... it was lacking the signature flavors the dish is known for. The savory spices slowly cooked with chicken bone broth was missing. In my bowl, the liquid was reticent of a thin consomme with a hint of chicken flavored, more so by the Thai basil on the toppings plate. The chicken, shredded, was dry, overcooked, and unseasoned. My friend has been here many times and she enjoyed her selections. I might try drinks and another dish if I return, but I'm not so sure.

Came here with friends and had: Octopus: pretty good and crispy. Freshly made Classic Vietnamese Beef Bones Broth that consists of rice noodles, slices of beef, brisket, bean sprout, basil. I had better pho elsewhere, this one was alright. Nothing impressive and its meat was not tender The ambiance was a bit dark and service was a bit off. They had tables available and yet they wanted us (party of 4) to sit by the bar. We had to insist and fight to get seated in a table... : (

Iron Pot Lemongrass Curry w Bean Curd.

I was a long time regular at a Vietnamese restaurant in Houston called Mai's - since moving to NYC nearly 20 years ago I have hopped to run across a place as delicious. I found it last night in Mekong BK. We stared with the vegetarian spring rolls which were delicious, of course. They always are pretty much anywhere you go. It was my entree, the Iron Pot Lemongrass Curry with Bean Curd that utterly blew my mind. I don't even know what to say. Delicious, savory, spicy, satisfying... and that lemongrass flavor. It was utterly magnificent! The space inside was cozy with neighborhood vibes, and the place was nicely bustling and busy, but not overwhelmingly so. Our server was absolutely lovely and happily answered all of our questions and made suggestions. The only miss was the fact that she seemed to disappear after we got our food and we never saw her again. Another person seemed to take over our table and brought our check. Not terrible, but it's always odd when that happens! I will definitely make my way back to this spot!

Summer rolls and lychee martini

I was in the area and craving Vietnamese food so decided to stop in with my friend. Looking at the menu, I noticed it was definitely a bit pricey, especially for Brooklyn. I did enjoy the lychee martini more than I expected to. The summer rolls were very bland though, so that was a bit sad. The crispy spring roll vermicelli was definitely better, but I've also had better versions of it elsewhere in NYC.

Banh mi
Jenny C.

I was in the area and was craving a banh mi so I went to the one of the only two Vietnamese places nearby to try a new place. (The other one I already tried, 5ive spice tacos and banh mi) When I walked in, nobody asked me for a vaccine card and sat me down quickly. I don't know if it's because covid is not as prominent now or what- do what you will with that information. I looked at the menu and realized all the prices are Manhattan priced pretty much- a whopping 14 dollars for banh mi compared to 10 dollars at 5ive spice and 4-6 dollars in lower Brooklyn authentic Viet spots where I'm from. The pho was only 2 more dollars. One thing about this place that's different is that it offers more vegetarian options for a lot of people who can't eat meat which shows the locals of this neighborhood. I was pretty happy with my banh mi- the pate was not as moist/wet as the traditional banh mi I usually have which I actually prefer and the baguette they use is fresh and i was impressed by how my whole mouth hasn't gotten destroyed by this bread as usually when I eat banh mi my mouth is scraped so hard with the baguette texture. I could tell the meat was high quality and they used a good enough amount of vegetables where the sandwich isn't overflowed with carrots or other extra flavors which I really appreciated. Is it an expensive banh mi? Yes Is it a perfectly made banh mi? Yes All in all, I got my quick banh mi fix and would be open to trying the other dishes at this restaurant when I'm back in the area!

Is this the same MeKong from Brian Bui in soho?!?!

Yes!

Is this place already closed? I just passed it, and the menu is still up but there's another menu next to it for a coffee shop called Toby's. The sign also appears to be boarded up.

Actually, the Toby's sign just says that they serve Toby's coffee. The place is alive and seems to be well! Certainly still making. Vietnamese goodies!

Must Try: Small plate / flattened bánh ít trần?, Grilled Chicken Banh Mi…read more Me and Tanzina came here and there was basically only one thing on the menu that didn't have pork, so options were a little limited for her. I ended up coming back and trying more later though. Grilled Chicken Banh Mi - 4.5/5 The chicken was juicy, tender, and had a good amount of flavor. They also give you a lot of meat. The pickled filling wasn't overly vinegary, which I liked. Bread was good, nothing crazy. I do wish they went heavier on the mayo and pâté because it could have used a little more moisture. Grilled Pork Banh Mi - 4.5/5 Pretty much the same strengths as the chicken version. Good meat, solid flavor, good bread, and a nice balance of fillings. Could still use a little more sauce, but overall really good. Triple Ham Banh Mi - 4/5 Decent, but not exactly how I like my banh mi. It was a little dry for me. Maybe I just prefer mine wetter and a little more loaded with condiments. Small Plate / Flattened Bánh Ít Trần? - 5/5 I still need to figure out the actual name of this, but it was excellent. Very fresh and surprisingly filling, with a slightly sweet and savory flavor. The sauce paired with it extremely well. Easily one of the best things I had here. Price - 5/5 Pretty cheap for a New York spot, especially considering the portions and quality. Experience - 5/5 Simple menu and everything has been pretty consistent. There's a decent amount of seating and it isn't too loud. Just know that you may need cash, and there's an ATM a couple blocks away. Definitely a spot I'd come back to, especially for the chicken banh mi and that small plate once I finally figure out what it's actually called.

Tasty Banh Mi sandwiches!…read more I ordered ahead and didn't wait very long on a Sunday early afternoon. I asked for my Banh Mi with less carrot and daikon which they happily accommodated. The sandwiches were a little light on meat but ask for more because the prices of these sandwiches are also similarly light. There were other tasty treats and Vietnamese groceries in the shop, they also had self serve fried spring rolls in a toaster oven as well for $1 each. The women who run the shop were sweet and quick.

The place was exactly what we were looking for... Inexpensive, cozy and comfortable atmosphere! The place wasn't busy, but they took reservations. Amazing service and delicious food! The food was fresh and came out fast. Portions are generous, so you definitely won't leave hungry. My favorite dish was Pho Ga (Chicken Noodle Soup), which was delicious, also gluten free, dairy free and soy free. Others had something else I had no interest in to remember the name. Their menu has many options to offer, including gluten free, soy free, and dairy free options. We would come back again and highly recommend you check out this place if you are in Dumbo Brooklyn.

Giving a fair posting of my view of Em Vietnamese Bistro, and to overall it is not my taste…read moreunfortunately. I visited 10/18/26 around 1:00 PM to be quickly seated to dine inside. The spacing is quite... intimate. I could hear everyone's conversations and breathe in their breath. Being up close to someone is not my preference however I persevered. Entering the restaurant was nice with customer service being excellent besides one employee who did not seem to respond, I wasn't sure if English or Vietnamese was spoken but did not respond to both. Come to the realization that most spoke Thai. Upon ordering, usually on a cold day, tea would be provided. I didn't realize one small cup of tea was 4$ to 5$, which quite upset me. However being near a tourist destination, I ignored it. I order just the basic pho dac biet (or at least what was first on the menu) while a friend ordered bun bo hue (a spicy soup). Overall the food? Tasted as if it was instant unfortunately, and the special "silk" noodles were sold out apparently for the day. For a basic bowl of pho, that tasted instant. Was roughly more than 20$ without tip. I, was not impressed. The bill came to more than 80$ for two people, including an appetizer of chicken wings (that closely resembled to Buffalo Wild Wings). Overall, this seems like a grand place to grab a drink, bring a business client, and build a façade. However to actually eat here? I would not come back. For those reading this, you have better luck in Flushing or Chinatown in Manhattan. This will be copy and pasted on Yelp as well. Hope this business perseveres!

We ordered the Cha Goi (Crispy Spring Rolls ($18), Pho Thin Ha Noi (Beef Pho $25), and Pho Ga (Chicken Pho). I was impressed by the meats for both phos, as they were tender. The beef had a good wok sear, while the white meat chicken surprisingly retained good moisture. Compared to Southern style pho, Northern is more clear, light broth and wider noodles. The beef pho had more flavor. You could add hot and sweet sauce to your liking as well. We have a go to place for northern pho, but Di An Di is fine. Just a little pricey. The spring rolls were delicious though. Would recommend. Would be interested to try their banh mi next time. If you are a first timer, they do give option for pho and banh mi set (which is a smaller pho bowl and half a bahn mi). The interior is spacious, but cozy. She was hungry and quite upset for the whole duration. The staff did come and informed us multiple times it was coming. But it took a total of 20 minutes for it finally come. The manager said it was a communication issue between the servers and the kitchen staff since we did request for the toppings to be on the side. They did apologize multiple times and did not charge us for that sandwich that took forever to come. If it weren't for that incident, definitely a solid 4 stars. Would I come back? I would, the food was good and hopefully they'll get everything correct next time.
