The tosaka yuzu salad was delightful--smoky and just a little spicy--and I'll be dreaming of the unagi salad. It was one of the best dishes I've ever had and I can't recommend it enough. (Seriously, you NEED to try it.) Since it was a 92 degree day, we both opted for cold soba dishes, and they were incredible. The dashi broth was so rich and flavorful, the matcha noodles were tender and chewy with a gentle, mild flavor (in the best way), and the sashimi was simply superb. By the end of the meal, we felt nourished and full, but still had room for dessert. We were recommended the the Soba Goma Mochi for dessert as the staff favorite, which I'm not sure I would have chosen on my own, but I'm so happy we went with the rec because it was truly a delight: A bit nutty and caramel-y, kind of like a peanut brittle in flavor palette. (We also opted to get it with a scoop of soba ice cream on top, and you should too.) Since it was our anniversary, we were treated to a glass of off-the-menu sake that paired beautifully with the dessert. Together, the sake helped bring out the nuttiness of the dessert, and the soba helped to highlight the feint tartness of the sake. It was a genuinely thoughtful pairing, and truly made our night feel special and celebratory. Everything about our night out here was incredible, and we talked about our dinner the whole way home. (I may have even gotten a little misty eyed after because, as someone who's lived with celiac for over a decade, I've long gotten used to assuming that I can't go out for a nice, special dinner. And the third issue was they no longer had chocolate mousse pie but they had a chocolate mousse cake. Totally different from my go to. We decided to share Italian cheese cake and it was dissapointing. Was not traditional Italian ricotta cheesecake. Was made of cream cheese and was on the dry side. Over all the food was ok, the dessert wasn't, the service was attentive but the vibe was off. End result is after 30 years of eating here a few times a year I think this will be our last time.
