I stopped in for a snack before heading to Bklyn Botanical Garden. So many choices in the tacos: crispy chicken, pomegranate and veggies, tofu, braised beef short ribs and falafel. Yowza! There is a three taco special or two tacos with Sapporo. Hmmm, the Sapporo, then I thought if I have accidente in Japanese Garden.. hey falling down drunk is a scary sideshow.. but I digress. I wanted Kara-age chicken and was led to the Korean Fried Chicken Kimchi Taco and for a drink Bubble Tea with Boba. The KFC taco is battered in sweet rice flour, double fried, tossed in organic blue agave nectar, ginger garlic and sesame seed Korean pepper glaze, served with pickled daikon and queso blanco with chipotle aioli..scrumptious! I started with one and ordered a second. The chicken is lip smacking good. There will be future visits to try different options. The disappointment was the Bubble Tea. First, I should have asked how it was prepared because the taste of it was not that great, can't explain but it tasted like condensed milk. Additionally, serving paper straws was a bit challenging to scoop up my boba. Next time, I will try the different flavored margaritas. There is a kids menu, burritos, rice bowls and food can come vegan or gluten free. The ambience is cool, brick walled interior and plenty seating for a small space. At times I worry about "authenticity," even if that puts me on the same side as a smug "well actually" dude who has 15 minutes of material about how American pizza was invented in 1936 because of cheese rationing. I'm still not sure what to think of this Korean/Mexican spot. I wasn't really into the pork in the kimchi bowl and I would have liked a saucier combo. I'm afraid I was deceived by the 4/5 rating. I was super excited to try the fusion of korean flavors with mexican inspiration. There was seating inside and some delivery men picking up orders so I thought that was a sign of popularity/ goodness. I got the $11.95 3 taco deal with short rib, fish, and korean fried chicken. I also got the strawberry mint limeade. There were burgers advertised out in the front but aren't on the menu so it was confusing- I wanted to try the kimchi smash burger but won't be coming back again. They put daikons and pickled radish in the taco so it was more sour than savory. The korean fried chicken was by far the worst, with the batter being so soggy it didn't match up to how crunchy korean fried chicken is supposed to be. The fish taco was a bit better but you can tell the fish isn't fresh with the way it clumped together when you bit into it. The batter on the outside also wasn't great. The short rib was better but the flavors just didn't go together. The limeade was terrible- the strawberry tasted like medicine. My friend got the short rib burrito and there ended up being no kimchi- instead there were pickled radish. I'm glad there was water to wash down these flavors. read more

Hands down the worst dining experience I've had in Brooklyn in the couple months I been here. I ordered a tofu stew (straight disgrace) and a smash burger. The stew doesn't have any of the traditional Korean taste at all or ingredients, it's legitimately poorly flavored water. The smash burger was the worst burger I've had in my life. They buns aren't toasted, the cheese somehow hadn't melted, and the patties themselves were burnt blacker than Voldemort's heart. The rice consistency is incredibly sus and the corndog batter tastes like something spoiled. I spent damn near $50 on a meal for my wife and I but threw everything into the trash after one bite. I frequently switch between the burritos, bowls, and tacos as my entree and I have yet to be disappointed by any of the 3 options. 3. Thanks to Yelp, I found another fantastic local find! Kimchi Grill is wonderful! I was looking for a tasty place in the area and it certainly didn't disappoint. Thankfully, when I got there, seating was available since there were only a few tables and stools. I tried the short rib burrito with kimchi fried rice and kimchi refried beans (i love kimchi!), and it was delicious. I will be coming back and ordering those specifically. I got the soy/ginger wings and they were delicious and am interested to try the original flavor but chickened out (heh heh) because I was nervous it would be too spicy. They were a little steep -- six bucks for three wings as an add-on when I ordered the burrito. Short rib burrito - 3 stars. While it was very filling, it seemed to only have rice, beans, kimchi, and meat. It just seemed very dense. I chose the short rib after reading reviews but found it very smokey tasting. Been coming here almost weekly since the pandemic started for take-out, and I greatly appreciate the plethora of vegan AND gluten-free options. My current favorite is the Ssam burrito with spicy tofu (so many great flavors and I love the combo of textures of the chewy rice paper wrap, crisp lettuce and vegetables inside, and the meaty tofu chunks). The flavors linger even like an hour or two after eating it and my mouth is still happy then. I also really love the Thai Peanut Bowl (with the tofu), and the various vegan tacos. Once in a while, I'll also treat myself to the fried rice gnocchi (fried rice cakes), which are fun in texture. I also like the kimchi bowls they have, but even with the "least spicy" option, it's always just a little too spicy to fully enjoy. They're always pretty speedy in preparing my food - I don't think I've had to wait more than 20-25 minutes after I put my order in online to when it's ready to pick up. This isn't it. The idea of a Mexican-Korean fusion is interesting and the photos looked great, but the quality and combination of ingredients from the two different cuisines was mediocre at best. My friends and I looked up this place and decided to give it a try after a long morning walk. We were super excited and hungry, but when we started eating, we had mixed feelings about the taste that we couldn't quite put our tongues on. Then, one of us said, "The short ribs taste good by itself, but weird with everything together." And that was exactly it. I ordered the Big Belly Burrito with the Tofu Edamame Falafel upon the hostess's recommendation for a vegetarian option. I got it with the kale-lettuce mix as my base and kimchi refried beans. Unfortunately, the burrito I got was super disproportionate with only a few pieces of falafel and a lot of lettuce. The abundance of lettuce ended up making my burrito soggy and dripping as I took a bite from it each time. On a side note for the kimchi-lovers, the kimchi that they use here is super fresh and not aged at all; offering a bit more of an acidic taste. You can tell it hasn't been fermented for very long. My table also got the kimchi fries to share. I personally didn't like it because it gave off the frozen-fries taste, but my friends said that they preferred the fries over the burritos they ordered so that's another statement in itself. read more

What has happened to the once coveted Kimchi Grill? I used to go to kimchi grill on Smith street and get the bulgogi bowls, the korean inspired burritos and everything in between. They were the pinnacle of Mexican meets Korean food. Two cuisines that reigned supreme! (okay I'm going a bit nutty here) However my latest trip to the remaining Kimchi Grill location proved to be similar to eating Kimchi. It stunk. We ordered multiple tacos, Fish, beef short rib, a Beef short rib Burrito, some Kimchi Fries, multiple orders of wings, Spicy as well as the soy garlic. Everything was below average, mediocre, sad even. The tacos were probably the best out of the group and the fish shone through. The presentation was a bit blah, no greenery anywhere, no scallion, no cilantro. flavorwise it was all heat, the hot sauce dulled everything else and while good, it really took all the flavor out of the taco. The Burrito was second on the list of good to bad, the short rib seemed more like just beef or steak, although by the time I was eating it, we were home so I couldn't ask if it was short rib or not. Flavors were good but it was super sweet instead of savory which a large burrito should not be. Wings were a major disappointment, soggy, soaked in sauce, no crisp or crunch anywhere. Kimchi Fries were an even bigger disappointment. I remember these being absolutely amazing. this time they were sad sad sad. beans, excessive amounts of kimchi, no meat (was I asked if I wanted meat?! I'm not sure!) sigh.... The fish was fishy, the short rib was tough, the chicken was the best of the three, but still was not very satisfying. I would not re-order the tacos. However, the Mandu dumplings were delicious. I got the chicken ones, and like that you can choose to have them prepared steamed or fried. This place happens to be right across the street from my salon so I finally decided to try it out. I tried the Korean bbq beef bowl along with the gnocchi and the Korean fried chicken (my fav) . They definitely need to kick up the flavor bc it's there. My beef was a bit over cooked and the pickled veges were missing something. It would've been nice if a bit of gravy drippings from the beef was dropped over the rice bc the bowl was a bit on the dry side. I will request this next time . The fried chicken was AMAZING! I just wish they would add a little more meat in the tacos. I love the layers of flavors in the nachos (sans pork for me). I even order the kids combo, because I like Kimchi Grill's guacamole and black beans. I usually have this as lunch, with a side wings. Now, my most favorite thing at the Kimchi Grill is the Big Belly Burrito! I build my own... my signature BBB includes the juicy, exceptionally flavorful short rib, kimchi infused and combined black & pinto beans, kimchi fried rice, and guacamole. With indoor dining now at 25% capacity, there was one table and one counter stool seat available inside. However, it looks like they are primarily doing brisk takeout and delivery service. The wings are below average. The chicken wings are very battered, lack that "crisp", and are borderline soggy. The chipotle honey sauce, is a bland mess, brings no flavor to the chicken wing. The korean spicy flavor fares better, but I can't help but think it isn't just plain gopchujang sauce slathered all over. The maybe one redeeming part of the meal was the spicy korean rice gnocchi aka korean rice cakes. Clever marketing in naming it that way. But anyways, these they fry a little bit and then are placed in sauce. Running at $5.25, however, i would say these are way overpriced for like 7-8 pieces of rice cakes. Honestly, the whole meal deserves 2 stars, but I have yet to try the other items and I really want to like this place, so 3 stars for now. Will update when possible. I looked this place up online a few weeks before my trip up to NYC. I googled "restaurants near Brooklyn Museum," since that's why I came up here primarily for (to see an exhibit). I had already mapped out exactly what I wanted, so I knew what to do. The menu is quite extensive and slightly overwhelming, so if you have food-decision making choices, definitely look at their website and place a "to-go order" without actually placing it (obviously). I got a lot of food, and I knew I wouldn't be able to finish it, but I also didn't wanna NOT try something. The only thing I could've gone without was the kimchi fries. I expected some diced/radish kimchee on them, but there was just the flavoring and other items on the fries. They were good, but I just had a lot of food. I would definitely return here without a question in my mind. While I typically love this place I tried a couple new items. The quesadilla was a joke. The drinks dint have alcohol and we're just frozen, flavorless ice. When I called, they told me that it was unfortunate and there wasn't a manager to help. Didn't taste like Sundubu or kimchi jigae (my favorite soup in the world) at all. Was sad about this one in particular because I was rlly craving some home style food. 4. Their kimchi is cool! There's not many Korean or Korean Fusion restaurants in Brooklyn compared to Manhattan, but Kimchi grill is a fun mix of American foods with Korean style. Wings, nachos, and other pretty diverse offerings with Korean BBQ implemented into the dish. We got the Korean BBQ nachos as well as the wings, both delicious. The restaurant also has a loyalty program you could join to save money on your order, but I haven't used that yet (as we ordered through doordash). I was craving Mexican food, but wanted something different! I looked around to see and came across this place. They have variety of options in menu, but I was craving burrito of some kind and ended up trying Korean short rib burrito with fried rice and guacamole added along with friend chicken. Would've loved to try their food but unfortunately whoever was in charge of closing last night decided that my delivery order (which was already paid for) wasnt worth waiting for a dasher to pick it up. I know someone had a nice little free dinner on me. Pro tip for management: if you're not going to wait for orders to be picked up then maybe change your closing time on third party apps. Doordash allows people to place orders until 9:40pm. Ubereats until 10pm. Yet your Google page says you close at 10. If you're not going to be considerate enough to make sure paid for orders are picked up before you close for the night, then stop taking peoples money well before that time. I waited 2 hours for a delivery that never arrived. No one even had the decency to at least cancel my order. They left the status as "being prepared" the entire time which left me under the impression that they were waiting for it to be picked up. I could've saved so much time. Not only that, but apparently their address on DD isn't the correct address, when my dasher arrived the first time he ended up having to drive 10 minutes to a different location that was already closed. Maybe they were slow last night and closing duties didn't take too much time but it's still unacceptable. Customer service was literally non existent, didn't even get a damn courtesy call. read more

Excellent fast-casual Korean-Mexican tacos and Korean fried chicken. Lots of menu items could make a tapas-style meal. I arrived around lunchtime on a weekday with a friend, ordered at the counter, and had great seating choices. Staff was excellent. For drinks, they offer beers, margaritas, soju cocktails, soft drinks, and fresh fruit drinks. They ran out of Horchata so we ordered fresh Watermelon Juice and Limeade which were both large pours. I enjoyed both which boasted very natural flavors with just a hint of sweetness. Food arrived pretty quickly. We took advantage of the 3/$10 taco deal of any combination and went for these: 1. The KOREAN BBQ BEEF SHORT RIBS TACO gave me happiness that stuck to my ribs. The marinade's just perfect! 2. The KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN (KFC) TACO was poultry in motion! So scrumptious with a carrot/daikon slaw! 3. Then the SEARED SPICY PORK KIMCHI TACO of marinated pork tenderloin was pure porkalicious goodness! The SSAM Taco which promised more Korean fillings of lettuce, rice, and KFC is on my list for next time. Then there ain't no thing like a Korean Fried Chicken wing! While they offer 4 flavor options, we shared my choice of super tasty and meaty garlic/soy/ginger KFC wings. It came with more of that carrot/daikon slaw and this time, I didn't really want to share. While none of the dishes seemed to need more flavor, their sauces are really good. I especially loved their cilantro-based Asian Aji sauce. With food, drinks, and service this good, I'd definitely visit again. Stumbled by this spot as I drove the streets of Brooklyn. I was craving some really good Korean food came cross this place. Due to COVID they just have orders for pick up and curbs pick up. The food was good. The crispy dumpling were pretty delicious just a bit greasy and after a few bits the oils started getting to me. The wings were really good nice crips and still juicy. I would recommend this place. I will be back to try other things on there menu. read more

When visiting our daughter in NYC we walked down the street from her home to her favorite neighborhood restaurant. She had been raving about it and we were intrigued. The Mexican/Korean combo was something I had my doubts about, I am not going to lie, but I trust my girls and when they say something is good, I believe them. We had plenty of vegetarian options to choose from which was one of the reasons they knew I would be happy here, plus their kimchi is absolutely DELISH. Tofu-Edamame taco? Thai Peanut bowl?
