OOOOOOk. So yelp:this place is not bad at all. Maybe they took your recommendations to heart! Basically, I went in there assuming the worst--i waltzed in at 7pm (on a Tuesday) and the place only had the elderly locals as described, but they seemed like a bunch who would have good taste so i wasn't afraid to try stuff... But I did end up asking the server to double-check all my choices to make sure he liked them as well haha... Didn't want to risk the bland flavors and whatnot I'd heard described on here cause I was on a date! Anyways, the crab cakes are amazing--they're super creative and Mediterranean... it was so good. And then we just went for some serious classics: shrimp fettuccine alfredo and veal saltimbocca. A+ The service was kind but a little confused. However, he came around frequently to take good care of us. And the atmosphere is very nice. It's the kinda place you go for a hidden, off-the-beaten-path kinda chill experience. The first time I've even heard of this restaurant was two days ago when it popped up on my yelp search. It's been a while since I tried anything new, so I went with someone there. The atmosphere is great, but the lighting is a little dark. It's definitely meant to be a more private experience. The food itself was incredible. I think we had the catch of the day which was (if I recall correctly) stuffed flounder with either lobster or crab. Simply amazing. The desserts were even better. The portions here are just about right to make you mildly full and not over stuff you as many restaurants do. They also have wines but we didn't order any, so I can't really tell you about their selections. As far as dress, I'd say, semi-formal to formal wear is about right. You also don't seem to need a reservation here. In fact, when we went, there were maybe only two or three other tables occupied, which makes sense because it is quite pricey. For us, two teas, two specials ($30 each) and two desserts turned out to be in the $80 zone. All things considered though, it was well worth the price. read more

Arugula salad w/ olives, artichoke heart and tomato... Awesome really liked the dressing. glass of wine.......ok 2. Grilled stuffed portobello mushroom topped with blue cheese balsamic vinegar sauce. I thought it my be awesome with Chilean sea bass or black cod(gindara )as well.. Anyways it was great! Loved the red pepper sauce. Risotto was done awwesome. Both 3,4 had grilled veggies on top and it was done perfect, and I love restaurant that can execute basic skills right. Overall.. this restaurant is awesome. I'm 6'-1" and could barely reach the barstool or the bar. Tried the mediterranean chicken with pomegranate and walnuts. The sauce was pretty intense after a few bites and yet didn't make up for the loss of moisture in the overcooked chicken. Rice and veggies were done right. Bread service was very good. read more

Came here for observed Valentine's Day dinner. Our waitress was the perfect amount of attentive. We had the special quail appetizer (delicious, but I believe there was supposed to be bacon and I couldn't find any... worth it anyway). Their bread and pesto complimentary starter is also delicious -- the bread is soft and the pesto is fresh. Convenient East Memphis restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant and the hostess asked if we had reservations. We said no but we're quickly seated.even though it was a Friday night, the restaurant was not very full. Our waiter was very attentive. I'm pretty picky with our Italian food but I was incredibly pleased with our dinner at Marciano. I also want to make sure they stay open! The restaurant has been around for 10 years and I had no idea until I saw some yelp reviews. The server was attentive (and yes masked) as we were the only diners besides another duo. I had the cioppino which was a good soup size portion of fish and shrimp with a delicious broth and a spinach salad (simple and tasty). Others had the chicken parm, seafood manicotti and the special--stuffed flounder. Their bread is more of a pita but it hit the spot with their fresh pesto. No dessert this time around. The food at this restaurant is simply the best Italian food I've ever eaten. The caprese for a starter had the most flavorful fresh mozzarella cheese and arugula topped with a sweet spicy sauce. The seafood risotto was simply to die for... and had a generous amount of shrimp (lightly grilled ) and scallops that were fresh and cooked to perfection. I enjoyed dinner at Marciano many times over the years but this Christmas night was really bad! Ordered a Chicken Marciano and Veal Piccata along with a bottle of wine and Antipasto plate. Bread and dip was fabulous as well as antipasto. Entrees were full of salt, couldn't eat. Ordered crab cakes and the same situation. Didn't even bother to say anything this time and asked for the check. I did mention to the server that someone with high blood pressure would have a problem eating their food. I asked if the chef was changed even though I believe the owner was the chef, she said still the same. I hope it was just a one time mistake due to special menu as I would like to give them another chance in the future... read more

This was such good food. We started out with stuffed portobello mushrooms that were stuffed with seafood. The stuffing was so creamy. Then I had a delicious arugula salad. For my entree I had the roasted salmon with sundries tomatoes and goat cheese. So so so very good! I also liked the size of the portions. Not huge but not small either. I ate here last night with my girlfriend, and the entire experience was perfect!! We passed on other nearby restaurants because of the noise, parking limitations, and lack of suitable seating. The waitress at Marciano's made a point to seat us in a quiet, comfortable location where we could enjoy our conversation, and she was attentive without being overbearing. She was knowledgeable of the menu and made excellent recommendations. Both of our meals were wonderfully prepared, and I since the entre was so good I ordered the tiramisu dessert, and it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious! Wow. In town for a conference, just looking for someplace close by. On a Tuesday night when I pulled up I thought it was closed and missed the narrow drive first time past. Two other couples inside. Rack of lamb was a feature and I'm thrilled that I got it. Probably one of best lamb dishes I've had. Perfectly cooked (Med rare). Marciano's was amazing! We went here spur of the moment and it was the best decision. Our server, Marina, was so helpful and sweet. She made us feel really comfortable and explained everything so clearly. We got the bolognese and the special, which was a crab-stuffed flounder. The flounder was absolutely perfect and I would request it every night if I could. It came with zucchini on the side which was delicious. For dessert, we had the creme brulee and I have honestly not had any that great in years. The place was pretty empty--probably because it was late on a Monday--but it definitely should not have been! Half-priced wine added to the greatness. This place is a gem and we will definitely be back. PS, the complimentary bread and olive oil is to die for, and it's not your typical olive oil. I love this place. Interior is beautiful and quiet. Perfect for a romantic dinner with your partner or to impress your first date. Not many people know about this place so it's not crazy busy but the food is really good and the price is fair. The chef makes daily special kebabs that are not on the menu but if you ask for you will be pleasantly surprised. And they have pretty decent selection of alcoholic beverages. Also locational he may have rainbow trout (again off menu) which is really good. Staff are friendly and accommodating and chef usually comes out and meets and greets with you in person and if you are a regular (like me) you might get complementary treats every now and then :) read more

I have been wanting to eat here for a long time and finally got there. We were one of 3 tables, and I still cannot understand why this place did not have more people! My brother and I started with the stuffed grape leaves, which were very well prepared and tasty. The bread was lovely. My brother had the veal saltimbocca and I had the veal parmigiano. We both loved it! We are both veal fans and order veal often at restaurants, and we both commented that this was some of the best we have ever tasted. We also enjoyed a bottle of wine that was very good and moderately priced. I have read the other reviews, and I do not share their mediocrity! All I can say is Marciano's is definitely worth a try, and I will definitely go back and take my friends! read more

The $ rating on this place is incorrect it is between $$$ and $$$$. The food is delicious, the atmosphere was nice, quiet and relaxed....until we come in with our three kids, so happy they were well behaved...our children are 6, 4, and 2. The waitstaff there is one of the best I have encountered in Memphis, Kevin was our waiter and he was awesome. All of the wait staff were sociable, kind, and they like kids. A lot of post talk about the chef/owner coming out to the tables, I would have to say that he only came out to one table while we were there and that was to say hi to patrons he knew. So don't go there expecting to meet the chef...you probably won't. Overall we would definitely go back there again but as a couple only not with our children. The had a four cheese pizza that we ordered for the kids because there is no kids menu, the pizza cost was $16 and it was the size of a dinner plate but it was delicious. read more

I have been passing Marciano's for years. Tonight, I decided to stop. I could kick myself for not venturing in before now. The server Alice was absolutely adorable and professional, she also served as the bartender and mixes a very nice drink. The owner/chef Morteza came out and spoke and he could not have been more likeable. It sort of reminded me of restaurants in New York where if you want something just ask and they can probably do it. The ravioli was very good and I look forward to my next visit there. It has a romantic and cozy feel to it and Chef and Alice make you want to visit again soon. This was the worst tiramisu I've ever eaten. It tasted like ice cream on cake. Very disappointing. But the staff was nice.

Husband and I ate there tonight, a Monday. We were only ones in restaurant other than a few folks at the bar.other than wishing to be asked about appetizers sooner (it took about 8 minutes), we enjoyed our dining experience. The food was very nice and we were happy to learn they make their yummy tiramisu in house, not delivered from a mass produced source. Cappuccino was good, real Italian style so you sweeten yourself. Only other complaint is the bathroom was stifling hot and the toilet seat slid around! But a good place and we are full and happy. read more

If it were possible to rate Mariciano's minus one, I would. The pesto was made from olives and olive oil - think olive puree -- and dreadful. The focaccia was tasteless. We ordered the roasted salmon and the chicken breast with split peas. We ate neither. A small taste of the salmon revealed it not to be roasted (both of us make roasted salmon at home and it is never mushy!), but mush. The chicken was too tough to pierce with the tines of the fork. We left both, complained about both, leaving all of the entrees uneaten. The salmon charge was removed from the bill, but not the chicken. We paid in cash, not wanting to be reminded when the credit card statement arrives, and left - walking to another Italian restaurant a couple of blocks down. Stay far away from Marciano's if you want decent food that is at least as well prepared as when made at home. Had we not located another Italian spot nearby, we would have Ubered to the nearby Whole Foods and dined there. read more

I enjoyed this restaurant. We went there on a Sunday early evening, and there weren't very many people. There were some couples having a quiet dinner. The menu was varied and I couldn't pass up the roasted leg of lamb. They were delicious. My two companions also seemed to enjoy their meals.
