We shared two of the salad platters. Then we dug into multiple pasta dishes along with the chicken and fish entrees. There's a wide variety of mixed drinks, wine and beer to choose from. The coffee and gelato are excellent as well. James provided wonderful service. The place used to be an old hotel and the restaurant is located in what used to be the lobby. We had exemplary service from someone who was very knowledgeable about the menu and very friendly to boot. The little gem buttermilk salad was fantastic and flavorful. Had a great dinner at Catherine & Mary's in Memphis while sitting at the bar, which is usually my preferred spot. They have an excellent bourbon selection, which immediately caught my attention, along with a really solid wine list. From the moment I sat down, the staff and bartenders were friendly and welcoming. One thing I especially appreciated was that all of the bartenders worked together to take care of guests instead of the "that's not my customer" approach you sometimes see. That level of teamwork makes for great service. I started with the Formaggi, then ordered the Gnocchi because if gnocchi is on the menu, I'm ordering it. This version was especially delicious -- alla vodka, crème fraîche, mozzarella, and basil. Rich, flavorful, and absolutely worth it. Great food, great service, and a great atmosphere. The atmosphere and service was great. Our waitress gave us amazing recommendations and made fun small talk which made the experience nice. We really liked the industrial look of the restaurant. The food was pretty good. The best was the brussel sprouts. The cornbread (even a little crispy) was great, especially with the mascarpone. My wife had the halibut which she said was great and I had the quail which was decent (a little over salted and too much sauce). The desert was carrot cake which honestly could have done without. We came here to eat after a musical at 4:30. The ambience is relaxing and hip. I felt very comfortable and like I was in a more upscale establishment. Our service was excellent! Our server was very nice. Having one picky eater that sent her dish back twice is annoying but our server handled it perfectly. The food was all delicious but small servings. I would not recommend the artichoke; it's good but barely enough for a tasting and expensive for what you receive. The grouper was cooked perfectly but again for $40 the serving was small. The cornbread was delicious and a better serving. I would have personally preferred a small cast iron skillet of cornbread for the price instead of I think 4 slices. The cannoli was good, the carrot cake excellent and the parmesan gelato tasteless but for us a must try because we had not tasted it before. Chefs Andy Ticer and Michael Hudman, also known for Andrew Michael Italian Kitchen, own this establishment. Catherine & Mary's is named in honor of their grandmothers. The complimentary valet parking is available Monday through Saturday; otherwise, street parking can be found nearby. Upon entering, the hostess stand is directly ahead, with the main bar to the left. The primary dining area is to the right, featuring high ceilings and a dimly lit, industrial ambiance with exposed walls and columns. FOOD: 1. Caprese Salad: Heirloom tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, shallots, and red wine vinaigrette (4/5): This was a refreshing start! This is ideally shared between 2 people. The heirloom tomatoes were ripe and sweet, pairing beautifully with the buffalo mozzarella. 2. Pork Belly: Frisée, cabbage, pear, balsamic, sorghum vinaigrette, and hazelnut crunch (4/5): It is perfect for sharing between two people. Rich, fatty, and delicious. The sorghum vinaigrette tied everything together with a tad of sweetness that balanced the richness of the meat. 3. Carbonara: Guanciale, egg yolk, pecorino, and black pepper (3/5): Flavor-wise, it was comforting and familiar, though it didn't quite stand out compared to the other dishes. 4. Halibut: Parsnip purée, root vegetables, and cara blanc (4/5): It was a lighter dish, and it was cooked just right. 5. Tiramisu: Espresso anglaise, mascarpone, and cacao nibs (5/5): The best tiramisu I've ever had, easily shared between 3 people. I loved it from the textures with the cacao nibs and with the perfect amount of espresso flavor. We devoured it within minutes. The service was great. The restaurant also hosts a monthly Enjoy AM Wine Dinner Series, featuring a four-course meal with wine pairings curated by the sommelier and culinary team. The negative space between tables, the torn down walls and columns, the lowly hung chandelier and soft jazzy sets the perfect New York City ambiance. Aspects that were great, others just not a fan. Like the scallops, the risotto was awesome, scallops maybe a tad too heavy on sear, but grapes were too sweet. Carbonara was incredible. Mafalde flavor great, pork texture not a fan. Ups and downs, but that's just my taste not necessarily C&M. We had Foccacia appetizer, but I forgot to get a picture. That app was def top notch. Went here recently (September 2025) for dinner, and the atmosphere was lively and a bit loud for fine dining. The place was definitely hopping. We ordered steak and veal both were absolutely delicious. Drinks were a mixed experience: we had to order off the menu, and I didn't love mine, though my friend enjoyed their wine. The menu is on the fancy side, and I didn't recognize a lot of the terms. Overall, it's not a bad spot just a bit more upscale and noisier than I usually prefer. read more

Catherine and Mary's has been on my Memphis restaurant bucket list for years, and I was so excited to finally give it a try. We started with an order of the fried mozzarella and the brussels sprouts. The fried mozzarella were fairly standard -- packed with a smoky mozzarella and a light breading. The side of slightly sweet marinara sauce paired well with the savory mozzarella and breading. The brussels sprouts were tremendous -- flavored and cooked to a slight crisp. I could have eaten an entire order myself. For my entree, I ordered the Lumache (cacio e pepe). The sauce was rich, creamy and savory, while the pasta was cooked perfectly. The portion was on the smaller size, but after two appetizers I couldn't have eaten much more. I also ordered an espresso martini, which was amazing -- one of the best I've had in Memphis. The service was excellent and I loved the decor and atmosphere inside. Date night landed my husband and I trying Catherine & Mary's FINALLY. We had reservations on a Friday night around 6, and were able to find street parking (though they offer complimentary valet). The ambiance is a mixture of beautiful and charming, yet sophisticated. It was pretty full when we arrived and when we left which was a good sign for business. We started with the cornbread. It had good flavor overall, but be warned that it has a small bite to it. If you're spice sensitive like me, it won't be your favorite. I got the AGNOLOTTI del PLIN for dinner which was a smaller plate of pasta (totally fine as it is dense and meant to be eaten with other things). You could definitely tell the pasta was homemade. It was good, but wasn't my favorite. Very mild in flavor. I'd likely get something else next time that has more of a sauce. My husband got the short rib and it was very good and full of flavor. The celery root risotto is different and refreshing. The star of the show was dessert. It was some kind of sticky toffee pudding with gelato. Possibly one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. I'd love to go back and try something else and for the dessert alone. read more

So I was at a conference and tempted to just eat the reception buffet and head back to my room. In what became a fortunate turn of events, my roommate was allergic to everything on the buffet, so off to Catherine and Mary's we went. I went straight to the main event- Halibut. It was one of the best dishes I've had in a long time. Seriously, I would put the beurre blanc sauce on this fish up against any in the world. Add to this the fact that the fish was perfectly seared and I relished every bite. Not to be outdone, my roommate order the spinach agnolotti which was almost as good. You could taste the care that went into the pasta. Dessert was less successful. I first tried a carrot cake which I found odd enough to return. The cannoli I received in its place weren't any better. I wasn't mad. I didn't need anything but that halibut! The dining room is really lovely, ornate enough atmosphere for a date night but made more fun by whimsical murals. Our server was abrupt and uninterested in a way that was unpleasant, but he seemed the exception rather than the rule. The other servers we encountered were lovely. However, I wasn't particularly a fan of its location--it's tucked on the side of the restaurant rather than the front. It felt a bit out-of-the-way and isolated, especially at night. The restaurant itself is in a prime downtown spot, just a block from the Orpheum. The ambiance is truly delightful, and the service? Absolutely impeccable. For anyone who has been to Italy (as we have), this restaurant's authentic approach to serving food in courses will be a nostalgic treat. The portions may appear modest at first glance, but don't let that fool you--each dish is so richly satisfying that it fills you up. My wife and I shared every course, which I highly recommend, as sharing is not only encouraged but also enhances the experience. Antipasti We kicked off our meal with the antipasti charcuterie board. If you're looking for the perfect appetizer, pair this with your favorite wine--it's a must-try. Meatballs Next up were the meatballs. Though they were on the smaller side, the tomato sauce more than made up for it, bursting with flavor and elevating the dish. Cacio e Pepe Now, let's talk about the Cacio e Pepe--a dish close to my heart. Confession time: when my family and I visited Rome, Italy, last spring, I became thoroughly addicted to Cacio e Pepe. For eight straight days, I indulged in it! So naturally, when I saw it on Catherine and Mary's menu, I couldn't resist. While their take on Cacio e Pepe was undeniably good, it didn't quite match the culinary heights of the versions I had in Italy. To be fair, few places in the U.S. truly replicate the magic of Italian cuisine, which is why Italy is, well, Italy. That said, with a few tweaks, this dish could reach Italian-level greatness. Catherine and Mary's puts their own spin on the dish, using pasta shells instead of the classic spaghetti. While this adds their unique touch, I found the shells slightly too firm, and they detracted from the authenticity of the experience. In Italy, it's always spaghetti--every time, without fail. Additionally, the sauce, while rich and tasty, leaned a bit too heavily on butter at the expense of the cheese flavor. It was also more liquid than I'm accustomed to. The Cacio e Pepe I fell in love with in Rome had a thicker sauce with a perfectly balanced texture and flavor. Final Thoughts For these reasons, I'd give Catherine and Mary's 4 out of 5 stars! read more

The food was super tasty. We got oysters, gnocchi and scallops. We also tried the mozzarella bites and a salad, but I am forgetting the name. It was all really tasty. I sometimes dream about my food and the oysters will make an appearance for sure! The inside of the restaurant was comfortable and had great lighting. Sometimes places like that will be too dim, this one was just right. Saw this place on a lot of lists for the top foods in Memphis while planning a vacation, so we made a reservation. It did not disappoint! Amazing food and great atmosphere! The first thing to know (which our server advised us) is that the menu is designed to share smaller plates. I took that as a challenge to eat all four courses, and I would not recommend that, because it is SO MUCH food! We had fried mozzarella as a "snack" and it was fantastic. We then had the meatballs, and honestly that would have been a super filling meal so far, but push on we did. Next course we shared both the Carbonara and the Rigatoni. Both were so good, pasta made in house with sauces that were some of the best I've had. Then on to the entrees. By this time we wised up and only ordered one, the veal cutlet. I wish I could adequately describe how delicious it was, but by this time I was so full it hurt to keep eating, but I did not want to stop. Finally we threw in the towel and got a box. The only complaint I have is that it took a long time between when we were finished eating and when our server came back. In fairness, they may have just been giving us time to enjoy the meal but compared to the very fast and attentive service earlier in the meal, it seemed like a long wait. I forgot to take a picture of my food but it was so good. I love that the dishes are proportionately correct; just enough. I don't remember exactly which pasta I had but I do remember that I was worried about the egg. My husband and I did some research on what restaurants were the top rated in Memphis so we could choose a good one for our one night in town. We saw several blogs recommend Catherine & Mary's and read that they were a semi-finalist for the James Beard Foundation, so we decided this was our choice for the night. The atomosphere and decor was an urban cozy feel. Our reservation was at 8:15 but we had no issue getting sat when we arrived 20 or so minutes early. We were even greeted with "Happy Anniversary!" since I made a note on our reservation that it's our Anniversary. We waited for probably 10 minutes before our server greeted us. But once she did, she was absolutely amazing. She deserves 5 stars and the rest of this review is no fault to her. For drinks, we ordered two local beers that we were both pleased with. For an appetizer we had the polenta (recommended by our server) and I really enjoyed the lemon flavor, it wasn't overwhelming but a nice acidic flavor. For our mains I ordered the cacio e Pepe which was sadly disappointing. I've been to Rome and had the most incredible cacio e Pepe so I know my standards are probably high for this dish but unfortunately this was not even comparable. If you want cacio e pepe that's comparable to Rome, go to Pastaria (St. Louis or Nashville). My husband had the Agnolotti and while the flavor of the filling was good, the portion was comical. He had 5 small pieces. I would expect this size if we were doing a tasting or at a Michelin restaurant. He finished his dinner so quickly and then immediately found another restaurant to get more food. All in all, don't go here if you are hungry. This is more of a small bites restaurant in my opinion.
