After reading many positive reviews, I decided to stop in. It seemed like either the burgers or the pizza were the way to go. I was undecided so I asked the waiter which he would recommend. Came back with a strong " get the Margherita pizza!" So I went with it. Wondering whether I would be pleased or disappointed..... Well I don't know what they did to it but they sure didn't make it taste good. It wasn't straight up Margarita. It had some real interesting flavors in it. Although the only discernible ingredients were the cheese and tomato sauce. I'm thinking it was something in the sauce that just gave it that extra oomph and great finish. I topped it off with an IPA from a local brewery.. perfect combo! The waiter was attentive but not overbearing, and I was in and out in an efficient time. But I could have stayed as long as I wanted. This was such an escentric place! We found it on yelp when we were looking for a cocktail in midtown. It doesn't look like much from the outside but the inside is a treasure. This is an old house turned bar. There is seating at the bar or you can pick a number of rooms with seating. They have food available and are known for their signature cocktails. If you're looking for a fun, laidback, unique experience, this is a fun spot for a mocktail/cocktail or bite. I tried a lot of different things with my friend group but the cheese plate was my favorite thing because it had the most unique cheeses. The mango cheese was my favorite but they were all excellent. Memphis Whistle is one of the most unique spots I've stopped to get a drink in Memphis. The renovated house gives off an intimate, casual, and homey atmosphere that is worth coming back for every time. I always try to snag a spot in the "lounge" area, which foregoes tables in favor of unique couches and chairs to create a quirky living room complete with TV trays and fun eclectic decor. The food is fine in my opinion, but not the reason I come back. All the dishes I've tried are simple, which adds to the homey vibe, but none so far have been standouts. The drink selection has always been good. The staff are wonderful and part of the reason why I would chose this place over a bigger restaurant. I would give 4/5 stars because the shining star of Memphis whistle is the intimate and eclectic atmosphere along with the Staff as opposed to the food and drink selection. However, it is a small space, and I think I would enjoy myself less if I had to sit at a table because the lounge was occupied. In that case, going on a busy night might be a gamble. read more

This low key cocktail bar is a hidden gem. We stayed across the street and came over evening for a few drinks. Pleasantly surprised at the quality of the bar. It is well stocked and the bartender 110% knows his stuff. He whipped my wife up a drink off the cuff that was fantastic. It's obvious that he's no rookie. It was after dinner for us but we did nibble on chips and queso. The chips were handmade and fresh with the perfect amount of seasoning. The food menu was creative but I can't comment on it further. Every trip I have back to Memphis must include at least 1 visit to Memphis Whistle. (The last two trips have had 3 visits each.) Jeff and Alex aren't mixologists. They're weavers of dreams that use alcohol as their tools. You can get some awesome selections off their menu or simply tell them the alcohol and what flavor you'd like so you can watch more magic than David Blaine and Criss Angel combined. The creations out of kitchen are equally awesome. Always evolving and morphing, there's something a bit for everyone. (The Lion's Mane Bites, mojo style, is a guaranteed delight.) I'm nervous writing this review because it's still a hidden gem and I don't want everyone knowing about it. But I do want them to succeed even greater than their awesomeness. read more

Had this place on my list since opening but have always been unlucky, found it closed the 2 times we tried to go. But our dinner last week was definitely worth it. Such a special, homey yet magical place. Few outdoor tables, also bar seating and few indoor tables and cute unique rooms inside. Owned by a couple who run the bar and restaurant themselves. Cocktail experts who can give you great recommendations, well priced $10. Favorite was the lychee and gin cocktail, "I'll have what she's having"... there's another cocktail I can't remember, was topped with smoked rosemary. Burgers were huge, fresh brioche bun. I liked the Tiger but didn't like the big block of blue cheese so much. Would probably prefer a milder and softer cheese. Lions Mane poppers were really good too. There was a big party inside so we opted for outdoor seating, which we enjoyed. But still would like to try the indoor experience next time. Lovely service, def feels like a second home. read more

I got a birthday shot of Weller 107 from the owners Jeff and Amanda. It is easy to miss as it is in a house, but don't let the outside fool you. It is adorable on the inside. This place slaps!! From walking In the door with its eclectic decor, amazing smells, perfect chill lighting to the more then welcoming feels. Sat at the bar, ordered all the foods and drinks. We were looking for a late night kitchen and we found a new fave! Bartender was great, I had a Midnight Manhattan, on her recommendation, very happy! I had the chili for my dinner, which was meaty and well seasoned. (I am glad I added the jalapeños, to kick it up a notch.). My husband had their special, which was sliced pork tenderloin, with rice and lotus root, different and delicious. We look forward to going back. 2 stars because the place is cool. I bet the burgers and drinks make it better than this reviewer can honestly rate it. I had a Cajun special. It had 6 or so nice size head on shrimp, over a bowl of rice. The rice was mixed with something that made it the consistency of wet Sheetrock mud. The shrimp were so over cooked, I could have fought off an attacker with them. Speaking of attackers, the fried lions mane mushroom were available in Buffalo, bbq or mojo. Okay, let's try the mojo then. Apparently mojo means having lime juice poured over them until they are so bitter, you can't force yourself to eat them. The wife had taco egg rolls. I don't even know where to begin. I honestly can't tell you what kind of meat was in them. It was supposed to be chicken. One note, unidentified fried objects. UFO. All this being said, the table next to us had kids 25 years younger who absolutely seemed to be having the time of their lives. They had cocktails and bar snacks and I'm sure this place is more for them than it was for us. But as cool as the quirky little spot is, the food we had was just not good at all. I've eaten places that served me spoiled food, raw food, even no food believe it or not, but this was the worst attempt at producing a meal I've had, barring the fore mentioned. read more

I have never had the urge to leave a review but after the experience at Memphis Whistle I am forced to succumb to taking it online. - First off, I have been to the Whistle numerous times and by far tonight was one of those times where you decide to never support an establishment again. It started off with the complete negligence of me and my partner's presence.. On a Monday with 3 or 4 tables, we waited around 20 minutes before our order was even taken, 15 for drinks. While our order was taken, our waiter had asked me to repeat my order back to him FOUR times. We ordered all together but started out with the Lion's Mane app, was good. My partner got the Gator dog, which is actually a sandwich.. cut up sausage.. but they enjoyed it.. Thought it was peculiar to get it chopped up like so. I got the tots with queso, onions, and jalapenos.... pretty simple I thought, boy was I wrong. It came out with no queso, and shredded cheese which was a topping I had not asked for. I can tell the waiters were trying to be polite, but after being ignored for frivolous conversation with people sitting at the BAR it was quite frustrating. It was truly a lack of attentiveness and professionalism in my honest opinion. After noticing my order was incorrect, I asked to get it fixed and here comes the worst part. It seems as if they just took the tots poured lukewarm queso on top, and threw it into the microwave. Again, for something so simple I really hoped there would be no problems. Instead I got burnt queso cheese ontop of soggy tater tots. Very disappointing! Used to really like this place.. Also I got charged for the cheese I never asked for, classic!
