We really enjoyed our weekly date night @ Tonica. We were able to get a table fairly quickly on a Monday evening. I was immediately impressed by the ambiance because it is reminiscent of a NYC venue. Our waitress was very kind. We ordered tapas (the andouille sausage, sliders, roasted carrots, and coconut shrimp). We both ordered the cruise control and booooy did I enjoy the ride. Update: the second time I came back again at bar service. Every was great but the scallop was cold and the paella cold. 4/5 3rd Visit - 2/5 Very disappointing. The lamb skewers and scallops came out cold. The mushroom and coconut shrimp were good, but the "habanero" sauce tasted like ketchup. Drinks took 30 minutes, food arrived before drinks, water was never refilled, and my friend never got the straw he asked for. We paid $121 for tapas (lamb skewer, mushroom, coconut Shrimps and scallop) and two drinks and ended up going somewhere else after. Not worth it this time. read more

Nicely done place with a good atmosphere. Server was very good. Guacamole and home made chips were delicious. Sangrias tasty (and in happy hour). Paella was good flavor and filling. Could have been warmer. All in all an enjoyable meal. Price was a little high. read more

Came here for a late dinner, but ended up very full. What I thought was gonna be a small plate was big enough. I ordered the flat iron steak with the fries. I used to live in Spain and this tasted like the real thing. I also had the brussels sprouts with chorizo and it was such a different flavor and take on this. The downtown location of Tonica gives an upscale vibe with the service to match. I went for brunch for a birthday and they did not disappoint. I had already eaten but the mimosas were on point! From the social media worthy seating to the open kitchen, the place just gives, "fancy night out" or "date night". It's not overpriced, either! Just right! Very pretty restaurant. Pretty good service. Place was very empty and waitress was super sweet and nice. She could've checked on us more and she should've given us some new clean plates without us having to flag her down. But she seemed to be conscientious and was trying. All the tapas were delicious. Carrots, croquettes. Bruschetta, patatas bravas, crab claws, garlic shrimp, scallops. All amazing. Also had paella which was super mediocre. The only bad dish we had. But overall a really good meal. My family, friends, and I visited Memphis in celebration of my husband's 50th. We went to Tonica for brunch on a Saturday with a large group of twelve. They were able to accommodate us, and our server was efficient, polite, and personable. The tapas menu, only offered outside of weekend brunch, looked delightful as well; however, they do not serve it during brunch. I had their take on chicken and waffles and was not disappointed. I also had a sangria that was not too sweet but just right. If you are staying nearby or live in Memphis and want to try something new, I do recommend giving Tonica a go. read more

The Midtown location , I would never go back to the acoustics are absolutely horrible! Tonica has a very grown-and-sexy vibe and perfect for an adult night out downtown. The ambiance was great, and the full bar was impressive, including a bartender's choice mocktail, which was a nice touch and very well done. Unfortunately, the service fell short. Our server, Taylor, rarely checked on our table, to the point that one person in our party never received her food (guacamole and steak sliders). When the issue was brought up, Taylor was very nonchalant and did not show much urgency or concern, which was disappointing and took away from the experience. On a positive note, Cheries, the manager, stepped in quickly. She was apologetic, handled the situation professionally, and worked to correct the issue right away. Her response made a big difference. Because of the atmosphere and how management handled the problem, we're willing to give Tonica another try -- but improved service will definitely be key next time. read more

For our FrensMas dinner we decided Tonica was a perfect choice. The ambiance closely matched what we were going for. I was able to make the reservation online. They do reach out vie email and text to confirm the day before if there are any changes needed. Parking: downtown so no explanation needed Esthetic: very nice decor, low lightening, several seating options (bar, Hightop table, couches or regular tables) . We had a party of 9 and we're promptly seated at reservation time. I did notify our server Taylor that we would do gift exchange before ordering as we needed to use the table top space. After the exchange, we ordered cocktails. I had the Sangria Blanco. Very light and refreshing. We were notified that all meals containing mussels would not have them as they weren't available. I was very upset to hear this as I had already predecided on the classic paella. I revised order and selected the fried calamari and the steak pomme Frites. The calamari was well seasoned and golden fried. The steak was as requested (med) and the frites crispy. I sampled the paella from a friend and it was delicious. We were suprised at the crab claws as they did not give a small amount like some restaurants. The creamy garlic cajun sauce on top really took it up a notch. Here's where the issue came in, one person in the group never received her food (guacamole and flat iron steak sliders) despite several inquires. Another person in the group even sent her original order back, ordered sliders and those came out shortly after but the other person's never arrived. We ended up speaking with the Manager Shari Haley who provided the group member with a gift card and items sliders that were ordered again. When it came time to pay, my card was charged for someone else's food who had already paid in cash. Taylor explained she would have manager overide this. Shari signed the incorrect ticket and explained that if I needed to follow up on the payment reversal ahe would assist. Payment reversal did complete the next morning when looking at my banking app. Overall, my food and cocktail were delicious. I do like the ambiance of the location. We also encourage managment to wnsure the servers are in sync with hospitality. We noticed the server routing checking in on the table next to us. However, several in my group felt our server wasn't as attention. I feel all these issues noted can quickly be resolved as I hope to revisit again. read more

It's rare for a restaurant that's only been open a few days to earn a full 5 stars, but here we are--and I honestly can't think of a single thing to complain about! My date and I shared small plates and cocktails that were nothing short of delectable--so good we kept giving each other that "are you tasting what I'm tasting?" look. Our server guided us through the menu like a seasoned pro, making our first visit feel effortless. We even spotted the owner everywhere: in the kitchen, greeting guests, probably teleporting between tasks. It's clear the place is loved from the inside out. This is exactly the kind of spot downtown Memphis needed. Perfect for a pre-show bite before The Orpheum, or fueling up before cheering on the Grizzlies or Redbirds. Visiting Memphis for one night and wanted tapas - found this place just down the street from our hotel. Enjoyed walking there and arrived early (~4:30pm on a Saturday) despite not having reservations, they got us seated right away. Everyone, including the busboy, maybe even especially the busboy, was so accommodating and attentive. The vibe was on point... massive windows and lots of space between tables. The food was SO GOOD -- even the $8 house salads, which were the coldest, crunchiest I've ever had, were above average. Definitely recommend! read more

The atmosphere at Tonica was amazing and our Server, Will was great! The patatas bravas was the really savory and ones of the favorite things we did try! My Fiancé had the steak pommes frites and the steak was just okay. It was not tender and hard to chew even though it looked medium rare and took away from the flavor. The fries were basically like chips so if you like that crunch you would like the fries . Our shared guacamol lacked flavor tonight but the chips were good! The chorizo pasta flavor great! I liked the chorizo however the pasta was not fully cooked which made eating it less enjoyable. Overall the atmosphere and service does bring this place up! The food was just okay for us. read more

A stunning new Memphis gem! We celebrated my husband's birthday at Tonica in downtown Memphis, and it was an absolutely unforgettable experience from start to finish! My husband ordered the Through the Fire and Fizz cocktail - our server Bren recommended it and it was spot on! They actually light it on fire at the table, and it had the perfect amount of spice. Highly recommend! For dinner we shared 4 Tapas plates: the spicy cauliflower, crab claws, pork empanada, and we added on the Branzino filet (also recommended by Bren). Everything was delicious! Xavier, the host, even suggested pairing the red cabbage leaves with the cauliflower and ranch drizzle, which ended up being such a flavorful bite - fantastic tip! Hunter brought out the scrumptious Branzino filet with tomato basil reduction and he was an absolute delight to chat with! We ended the night with their Basque cheesecake, which was rich, creamy, and completely decadent! This gem is a 5 out of 5 with is beautiful decor for the perfect ambiance, fantastic dishes, and superb service we will definitely be visiting again! Memphis has a new favorite! read more

Ate here for NYE and honestly was very very impressed. The price wasn't as expensive as you'd think for the quality that you get, which the quality of the food was great, honestly maybe above great. Me and my girl split some of the tapas and got a little mix of 3 meats and then some carbs/veggies, got filled up and wasn't hungry afterwards. This place use to be pretty taco and they turned it around wonderfully, the interior looks great and the staff/hosts were all nice. Owner was there overseeing everything and didn't see him have to worry/stress once. So you know it's running smoothly and overall was just a great A+ meal. Will def come back read more
