Came here for brunch for a birthday celebration on a Sunday afternoon. The celebrant opted for the fixed price menu including a brunch meal and bottomless mimosas. I ordered the Madhatter's brunch because I was hungry and wanted a lot of food. It came with pancakes, eggs, potatoes, and bacon. Everything was just ok. The eggs lacked salt. The mimosas were definitely flowing. I was pretty disappointed with my experience here as I had read so many other reviews about the great atmosphere and DJ. However, it's possible that the vibe and crowd was different given that it was Easter Sunday. The music when I was there was old and all over the place. I don't think that the brunch was worth the $40 that I paid. However, I would consider coming back again just to try the Madhatter's Hat huge drink. Other than that, it's a pass for me. read more

It was ok, the food was abundant to say the least, tasty but not great. The customer service was not what I was expecting, could be way better. Our waiter let us waiting quite a while, at one point the busboy had to come to help us out, and the poor guy was way overwhelmed, let's say that that moment was not pleasant. They were totally sexist. We Came to this bar and told us to leave as we were ordering drinks. When we were asked to leave they asked us to call the police on ourselves. They told us that we were too drunk to be in the bar, but we all were passed with the "security" they had. He then Recorded our friend walking out of the bar. He had no right to record her AND the other women outside the bar told us they had been kicked out with no reason. She asked the bar manager to send video of the reason she was kicked out of for and refused. She is filing police reports as of now. read more

Went here for brunch with six people on a Sunday morning before the crowds came. Cool-looking Bloody Mary bar--all you can drink for $5.00--although none in our party tried it. Food was okay but nothing great. Server was well intentioned but not particularly professional, e.g., she brought out the main dishes but forgot the accompanying sauces, started clearing plates away before everyone in our party had finished their meal, brought coffee but no spoons. She was a very sweet young woman, just didn't have all the service points down. The main drawback is that the food was not particularly good. I had a greattttt time here! I went for brunch during their happy hour, and had the make-it-yourself-mimosas. So good. The only thing is the waiter gave us a hard time about splitting the bill on our credit cards, but we ended up getting it done. They had delicious brunch dishes and great drinks. Almost a year later and my opinion of the Madhatter has changed for the better. Since I work in the area, the Madhatter has become a favorite happy hour spot of mine. AYCD BRUNCH!!! I doesn't get any better than that. I hit this spot up before I left D.C. The decor is a play off of Alice and wonderland...not to much so it's not cheesy. Food is standard brunch...we got the steak and eggs..w/ the AYCD add on. They are definitely going to keep your glass full which makes for a happy patron! This is one of my friends that lives out in Maryland's favorite weekend to go out dancing places. I was willing and ready to give it a shot after I accidently put my credit card into the wrong slot in a metro machine and it ate it up. This was me sober. And in doing so, had to wait 30 minutes for a guy to open it. Madhatter on one side looks like your typical bougie bar with an eclectic mix of people. Predominantly and shockingly male peoples. Decent selection of beers on tap. They had a Lemonade Shandy, Fat Tire, some ciders, your regular picks, stella, Hoegardden, Leffe, Sam Adams Seasonal. Well drinks were around $7 so not bad for late at night at a place that turns into a club. If you check in on Yelp on a weekday that's not Friday (I was there Friday sad face) you can get a 20% off your check deal. And their happy hour prices looked pretty decent. Though, not as many people are probably dancing during happy hour. At about 10pm the bar takes away the chairs. Which I find kind of incredibly awkward. They're trying to enforce us to be social and buy each other drinks. I want to be able to do that sitting down though. In turn, this led us to go boogie on the dance floor. Separate room. Which makes it confusing why the bar stools are taken away. They play a ton of pop music. But it was kind of fun pop music and I honestly didn't mind. Which in my saying this, it kind of makes me confused why there are so many dudes here. The music is TOTALLY catered towards chics but I'm not going to say its bad. Perhaps they 'know'. They know hey, girls are going to come here so they can jump up and down to some Britney and some Ellie Goulding followed by Fall Out boooy yeah! There is a giant Mad Hatter Hat above one of the doors. I missed out on capturing a picture of it. But overall I like the club. Someone from Fox News tried to hit on us here. It was shameful. This review is for the drinks and bar service. My friends and I came here to get drinks during the day. With a name like mad hatter, you would expect a whimsical dreamy bar. However, it's much more of a typical bar you run into in DC. I know they serve hug drinks out of a hat, which is something I would want to try in the future. My friends and I ordered drinks and they were okay. There was nothing special about it nor anything horrible about the drinks. The service was ok. It wasn't terrible but it wasn't top notch. I wish we did get a friendly bartender. Then again, it was very busy so that may be why the service was rushed and not as personable. Went here for brunch with a few friends and I must say it was a great time! The DJ played a mixture of 90's R&B with 90's Pop and a little Taylor Swift which made me smile and have fun. Some tables consisted of brave souls that would stand up and dance with the table next to them which made people watching that day even better. Our friend could not get let in on an expired passport, yet hundreds of under 21-year-olds can get in with fake IDs. He tried to get her to the side, separating her from all of her friends, trying to get her to pay $20 to let her in, actually asking her to bribe them, until me and another friend stepped in and said "do NOT pay him!! I'm going to start this review by admitting that, after fuzzy a night here, I missed my flight home. It was a cold, December evening; the eve of winter break. My 3rd semester of law school was grueling. My friends and I decided to celebrate at Madhatter. We bought two hats. The night ended there. The hat was unassuming. Its taste was harmless, but its effect was impressive. Although steep in price, splitting the hat amongst friends makes it affordable. Madhatter is a bumpin' spot to get the night started. It has great music to get you groovin'. It's a bit small, so dancing requires a little bit of push n' shove. The upstairs area and bathrooms are also space-saving. What a surprise! We were staying at a hotel that was in walking distance. We were intrigued by the website and made a reservation. When we arrived at 6:15 on a Thursday night we were surprised at the empty restaurant and we're concerned. There were plenty of people in the , but no one in the restaurant. We got our first round of drinks and were surprised by that as well. I ordered an old-fashioned which is a difficult drink to make. Not everyone does it well. The drinks were really well done. By the time we ordered our dinner the restaurant was still empty and now we were getting really worried. We ordered fish and chips, tri tip and barbecue ribs. Went here for brunch for a friend's birthday party and actually had a pretty great experience. We reserved the Upside-down room, which was a nice private little room away from the loudish bar area (although it wasn't completely upside-down... there were a few inconsistincies but that's not the point). It seated a dozen of us comfortably and we weren't rushed at all. I ordered the eggs your way and it was only average, somewhere around 3 stars. It came with scrambled eggs, home fries, turkey sausage and wheat toast. It was a relatively cheap meal ($9) for brunch in the district but ordinary as well. The eggs were standard with no special preparation or seasoning to them. The turkey sausage (three pieces) had good flavor but it lacked that truly crispy texture bacon should always have. The highlight of the meal was the home fries, which were well seasoned, filled with potato, and not over-cooked at all; I've never been a fan of home fries that are too burnt and become charry. The lowpoint though was definitely the toast, if you could call it that. It tasted awful and was simply cold, plain wheat bread that seemed like it went right from the grocery store bag on to the plate. This place deserves the extra star because of the outstanding service we received. Our waitress was incredibly friendly and said that each time she works, she picks her favorite table and puts all of their drinks on the house. So, all of our drinks were free! Moreover, because it was our friend's birthday, they brought out a complimentary gigantic plastic margarita cup filled with ice cream, brownies, whipped cream and strawberries. Came here today to try their bottomless mimosas. I had eaten before I got there so I didn't need to get food. I'm sitting there with my friends and the waiter kept asking us what we wanted to eat. When I told him we were only here for the bottomlees mimosas, he said that since we got the bottomless, we had to buy an entree. I explained to him that that was not written ANYWHERE on the menu and the staff never mentioned that to us when we got our table. It apparently was written on their chalkboard outside, but I had not walked in from the direction where it was positioned. Regardless, it was not communicated to us that we had to buy an entree. I spoke to the manager and he understood the confusion and allowed us to get an appetizer (I shouldn't have gotten that, but I was being nice). I came here for brunch on the recommendation of a friend. He told me it's a great vibe and the food is awesome. Not quite. So we sat outside on the patio and our server seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. We sat down and weren't given water for 10 minutes. I ordered the pancakes but received something else. Once they finally brought the right food my pancakes were literally falling apart. It was easier to eat with a spoon. I paid for extra strawberries for my pancakes and literally received two strawberries and was charged 4 bucks. My friend that came along was not happy with his meal either. I won't be back again. I love the theme of it and I think it really could be something better. We walked in and had to wait to be seated for about 4 minutes. There wasn't a lot of people there but they didn't have a hostess. When we got sat we waited for almost 10 minutes for our waiter to come by. The lady that sat us apologize it was taken awhile. He came over to describe the restaurant to us and he really didn't know what to say. He was clueless and really didn't know how to describe it except it's a pub with an alice in wonderland theme. I got that from the great decor but wanted more. The chicken wings were good but burnt. Almost too burnt for my like. My husband got fries that were burnt as well. One of my favorite lunch spots, the Madhatter has a varied lunch menu, with a range of prices. There are plenty of big screen tvs tuned to sports and a large enough space that lunch seating is always quick. Food is typical tavern fare, but with some twists, e.g. flavored teas. The Philly Chicken steak is very good as is the fish and chips. The cole Saw makes a nice alternative to french fries and can be readily substituted. As indicated by the name, the decor is "Alice in Wonderland" themed with movie posters and other art related the story. read more

We ordered the French toast and the bisqwich. Both were fabulous. The bisqwich is memorable bc it uses homemade biscuits. I also ordered the hatter salad and that was good but not memorable. Sidenote and bonus, they serve turkey bacon and sausage so you can enjoy meat without eating pig! After being sick the previous day, drinking the previous night for a birthday and then having to go to yet another birthday on Saturday, the last thing I wanted to do was drink again. I've been to this location twice, and both times it's been a great experience. The service has been impeccable on both occasions, with exceptionally friendly waitstaff who maintained a great balance between being attentive and giving us plenty of time to look over the menu and enjoy our meal. I had the house salad with balsamic vinaigrette and shrimp, and it was honestly one of the best salads I've had at a restaurant (and begin quite fond of them, I've had many). Fresh and crisp with deliciously seasoned shrimp and a flavorful dressing. Definitely worth returning for. The mangorita, a mango margarita, was also fantastic. My fiancé ordered a burger, and received a perfectly cooked medium rare burger that he thoroughly enjoyed. He found the chocolate cake, with its chocolate chip coating and alternating layers of fudge and cake, to be delicious as well. They also have an ice cream sundae served in a martini glass, which is equally awesome. (Just trust the menu when it says the large size is epic and stick to the standard size, because the large is way too big to finish without a small army of sugar crazed helpers!) Don't go here unless you hate black people/support racism. When I first arrived at The Madhatter, I thought the restaurant was very nice and had an overall pleasant atmosphere; good music was playing and everyone appeared to be friendly. Little did I know I was about to experience the WORST bar in the Washington metropolitan area. My two friends and I arrived at around 11 pm and had to wait almost 15 minutes before serving us, even though the bar was nearly empty. The bartender, a bottle-blonde woman with dollar-store acrylic nails, had an extremely unpleasant demeanor. I politely told the bartender my drink order and handed her my ID. She took it and told me she needed to "consult" with her boss. I thought this was odd, but she walked away. While exiting the bathroom, my friend overheard the bartender say to her boss " I'll tell them to leave. I'm surprised they even felt comfortable coming in here." Then, the bartender returns and tells me that she cannot serve me. When I asked why she replied "You need to leave or else I will call the police." This treatment was completely unacceptable. I am in utter disbelief that I would be treated this way at such a well-established bar, but, hey, that's Trump's America I guess. This was my first time at The Madhatter and I will NOT be returning in the future. I suppose this restaurant is nice if you're planning a KKK rally, otherwise I would not recommend this bar. read more

No questions asked, Madhatter has solid $3 HH rail drinks. They also have $5 appetizers that range from terrible to OK during happy hour. We tried the fries (Putting sour cream on fries is gross), mozzarella sticks (bland but OK), chicken tenders (OK), and pizza (decent), but the portions and ingredients varied person to person, which was a little annoying. Otherwise, as a dive bar in DuPont, the prices cannot be beat. The bartender on the second floor was friendly and good, which was a plus. My friends and I came in to enjoy the second floor bar at Happy Hour on a Friday night, and we were there from 5-9:30 PM. I lost total interest when a DJ set-up, directly next to us, leaving suitcases and equipment all over the bar area. I don't think anyone on the 2nd floor was into this, as EVERYONE cleared out when he came in. We'll probably come back for the Hat Punch Bowl ($33, 4+ people), and more $3 HH drinks. This spot was fun for out out with my girlfriends. The music was great and the crowd was having fun. I love that they shoot glitter confetti from the ceiling. The crowd was younger then I expected but that was cool since it was a "girls night out." The drinks were average cost 9.99 for a Long Island and the bartender was friendly (upstairs)(I don't know about the downstairs bar since it was a little to crowded I didn't even try to go there). The worst brunch ever!! I decided to take a friend from out of town to get brunch at what I thought was a cool brunch spot a few years ago. 1. The drinking glasses were dirty and made of plastic. I'm not sure if this is a new policy but clearly you can never get plastic cleaner than a glass. So I requested a glass champagne flute to drink my mimosas (bottomless). 2. The food. I order a basic chicken and waffle entre. Who on God's green earth would sprinkle confection sugar on fried chicken. So that entre went back. Along with my friend who had an egg sandwich and bit into egg shells. That entre went back. 3. The waitress America, under the circumstances she did what she could, but kept disappearing, keep in mind I'm on the bottomless mimosas clock of 2 hours, if you do not have a party of three or more they are not permitted to leave the pitcher on the table.
