We were excited to try Golden Age, but unfortunately the experience fell short. The wait staff was not very responsive, and after sitting for quite a while we eventually had to go up to the bar ourselves just to place an order. Even after that, the follow-up service remained fairly lukewarm throughout the meal. Another disappointment was the happy hour advertising. There was a blackboard in the restaurant/bar stating happy hour was every day from 5-7 p.m., so we reasonably assumed the drinks we ordered would qualify. Only at the end did we learn that happy hour applied only to cocktails specifically listed on the menu, which was not clearly explained to us and was a first for us at any restaurant. We paid our bill, left a tip that reflected the level of service we received, and left feeling underwhelmed overall. The atmosphere has potential, but clearer communication and more attentive service would make a big difference read more

I knew this spot would be cool because I love The Mirror and it's the same group. The emerald green really sets a moody scene and the servers are sweet. Each drink was delicious and the music is never too loud to have great conversation. The lamb kebab was to die for and I easily could've tried some of the other meals as well. I really wanted to like The Golden Age, but the experience left me underwhelmed. I ordered two tequila-based cocktails, the fingerling potatoes, hanger steak sandwich, crab fritters, and a shared plate of kebabs. Across the board, the theme was the same: everything lacked flavor. The drinks were passable--neither bad nor good--but nothing I'd come back for. Service didn't elevate the night either. It was hard to get the waitress's attention, and the overall attentiveness felt mediocre. The vibe of the space itself was pleasant enough, but I couldn't shake the confusion about what the restaurant was trying to be. Was it a cocktail bar with some food options, or a full restaurant with a serious bar program? Right now, it feels stuck in between and doesn't excel at either. In good conscience, I can't recommend The Golden Age beyond maybe grabbing a drink in a nice setting. But doesn't really seem worth it for the price. read more

This is my favorite bar in DC. I was told the burgers were great and they absolutely were. The decor, the cocktails and the service were all outstanding. Honestly, 10/10 across the board. We came here to hit happy hour and it was a good time! They opened late the night we came so we had an hour of HH to enjoy. The ambiance is nice, very low lit, romantic vibes and the wallpaper/decor is a fun vibe (ignore the people using their phone flashlights to read the menu and struggle by candlelight like the rest of us!) Service was solid and we really liked our drinks. I had the spicy bees knees and the punchy hot honey really stepped it up. A really cute cocktail lounge in DuPont! We came here as a late night spot and I totally recommend. They have a pretty solid food menu, bigger than I had thought, but a smaller late night bites menu. The burger is on the menu always and is killer! So good, a perfect end of the night bite. The cocktails were also awesome! The Golden Age is one of my new favorite spots in the city! I had always passed by when coming from my nail appointments and was excited to pop in on a Thursday evening. The ambiance is unmatched! I felt as though I was transported to the 1920s. Gorgeous lighting and attention to detail. This is a sister bar to The Mirror (downtown) and resembles a similar style menu / drinks. I could see this as a great spot to start the night before dinner. Decent prices for food and drinks. Golden Age is a fun old school DC restaurant with an almost speakeasy type vibe and fantastic cocktails. Definitely take advantage of their happy hour. I recommend having a reservation, but we arrived shortly after they opened at 5pm and were able to snag a table for two. Their food menu is just the right size: appetizers, small plates and a few entrees. We tried a few of the small plates and then ordered the pub burger and chicken kabobs for our main dishes. I highly recommend the lamb kabob as well. The confit potatoes are tasty too. My husband said his burger was on point. I enjoyed the chicken kabobs with couscous. Boss took a couple of us here after our meetings for the day ended. We were seated in the lounge. The place has a kind of kooky but cool vibe. The decor kind of reminded me of something from the 1890s. But still pretty elegant and comfy. They have a menu of classic and modern cocktails, plus late-night eats. We ordered a number of small plates and platters to share, Everyone enjoyed what we ordered and no one needed dinner afterwards. Good service too. Cute spot to go for cocktails! Dimly lit and beautifully designed. We were able to get a table for all 6 of us. It wasn't busy when we arrived, but more people came in as we were about to leave. The vibe in this place is LOVELY! The front area has a long bar and some high tables -- I showed up with people after a meetup dinner, and everything was unfortunately full. We opted to go to the back, and SURPRISE! It's a really dope lounge area. Gives major speakeasy vibes, with the decor, dim lighting, and all! There is food, but since I had just eaten I didn't look at it at all. It may be a bit hard to see because of the lighting, but their drink menu has multiple cocktails in every spirit category. When we came in, we were initially told that we would have to go to the bar to order. But when we sat in the back, someone came to us, and delightfully answered any questions about favorite drinks, recommended recipes, etc. I didn't get to stay long at all because of another engagement, but it didn't take much time to realize how dope of a place this is. What caught my eye was the low alcohol section. I ended up enjoying the Paloma. My friend and I loved the glasses our drinks came in. The food menu is a cut above other bars. The entrees sounded really good, but they also have small and shareable things like charcuterie. We sat at the end of the bar and the staff was still pretty attentive to us. We got seated right away, but the place did get busier as the Tuesday night went on. Huge points to the nice bathroom in the basement. (Mints???) If you want a well crafted cocktail, this is your place! I tried an old fashioned and the black Manhattan! Amazing!! Perfect for a date night, solo night out or out with friends! Not only is this a cocktail bar, they have food. I wasn't hungry but the menu looks so good. I visited on a Wednesday last week after work. They're open at 5 pm and stay open late. I love this place and can't get over how it's still one of DC's best kept secrets. The space is as cozy as can be and is the perfect hideaway, especially as the cold weather rolls in. The lounge and bar is adorned with candles and there is a comfortable mix of bar and table seating. It's a great place to have intimate conversations and enjoy a fantastic, craft cocktail. The team they have in place behind the bar are total professionals but they're all also incredibly personable and cool. Another perk is that they serve food and they do so pretty late into the evening. I've typically just enjoyed light bites like the shrimp cocktail and lamb kebobs, but they also have hearty entrees (one of my friends always orders the burger and loves it!) The low lighting and decor gave a really cool vibe and truly helped us unwind after a long week at work. We each got a different martini - dirty, Cosmo, and espresso - each was expertly made, and so delicious! For appetizers, we got the fingerling potatoes and chicken skewers. I was in DC for the NGMA. I stopped here to meet some colleagues. I had some crab cakes, chicken kabobs and a wisky sour. The crab cakes were tasty but the kabobs not so much. The place was a vibe, music nice, people good. But the host, Sadique (might not be spelled correctly) not pleasant at all. She came our table (2 people) and demanded that we leave because she needed our table. I was taken back because I hadn't read anywhere that their was a time limit. We we there about 30 minutes after we had finished our drinks and food. I wish I had spoken to the manage or before I left. We started out with a larger group in a private section and then branched off and got a table of our own. The experience their didn't end well and I wouldn't go back. read more

Their daquiri with rum washed with milk and honey, lime sorbet, and maraschino is the best one I've had...ever. I also enjoyed the Planter's Punch. My friend who enjoys more stiff drinks enjoyed their Old Fashioned and Hanky Panky. Beer, hard cider, sour, and food are also on the menu. The atmosphere is classy, yet inviting and the bartenders are accessible and passionate. Parking can be tough in this part of town, but we usually find street parking along Leroy Place NW. read more

I randomly discovered The Golden Age when a friend was in town, we met here for a few drinks, I instantly fell in love with the ambiance and music. Last night was my second visit, this time solo. I could've easily had a few drinks and vibed out to the music, but not only was the bartender not very friendly (perhaps bcuz I wanted to use Apple Pay), but I was rubbed the wrong way when he charged me full price for my drink when it was clearly happy hour until closing. Nonethless, I'll give this place another try as it has the potential of becoming my go-to neighborhood bar. read more

Sidle in through the door, be greeted with MF DOOM - All Caps and rotary belt-powered fans. Gainfully candle-lit, every manner of couple intertwined, tuxedoed, jacketed, denim-on-denim, uniformed, backpacked, a societal deck of cards accordioned and bridged together. The chef-slash-gas-station-attendant-slash-true-equalizing-font-of-addled-calm and the cheesemonger-slash-anecdote-spinner-slash-honed-in-gestalt-flavor-puppeteer sling upsettingly great food to unsuspecting groups of twenty-somethings and first and second dates that'll probably not go anywhere long-term, not because of this place and likely despite it. A man, a savant, in a spinner cap and an ironic t-shirt decants a cocktail that is on fire between two metal steins, and immediately pivots to synthesizing a Ramos Gin Fizz in an impossible 5 minutes and 44 seconds just to prove a point. It bubbles up past the top of the highball and remains aloft, anti-Icarus, until after last call over two hours later. Fernet fills and departs glasses, never ordered, never questioned, forever welcome, smacking the palate into a state of Socratic irony. Inhale life, exhale death. You are a machine that converts meaningful cocktails into dumb stories and urea. Bathroom's downstairs, by the way. Not convinced? First, we loved David, who served us at the bar. Second drinks were amazing. Third great vibes! We sat at the bar which I love to do. Arrive 7p no reservation and had the option to sit at the bar or a table. We chose bar okay. This is one of the newer additions to the DuPont circle area and so I decided to try them out for a quick happy hour outing. It's a cocktail lounge but it feels like taking a trip back to the past due to the old school elegant decor, long bar, the dim lighting, and overall vintage architecture. It was pretty early so there weren't too many other customers but the crowd quickly grew. Service was excellent the bartenders were very personable and without being asked provided the menu highlights and some of their personal favorites. The menu features a wide variety of cocktails ranging from Japanese highballs to Negronis and daiquiris, essentially something for every palette. They also offer a few different wines, beers, and non-alcoholic a beverages. There was also a pretty decent food menu offering featuring a few different soups and salad options, charcuterie type platters, small plate options like Mac and cheese or lamb chops, and full on entrees like their dry aged steak sandwich, half chicken, or hot beef sandwich. I tried out the shrimp cocktail small plate, a glass of Chardonnay, and one of their "waking the witch" cocktails. The shrimp cocktail was solid and the cocktail really good, well balanced not overly sweet or bitter with the right amount of vodka. Overall this is the perfect spot for a date night, after work happy hour, or just a night cap outing so I definitely recommend giving them a try. read more
