As a tourist, I hate tourist traps. In NW Washington DC, my family and I were staying at a VRBO and we stumbled across this gem of a spot. The moment you walk in the ambiance screams local drinking spot. Wherever I go, I only drink local and they did not disappoint. They shared a Gray Wolf Craft distillery whiskey that was phenomenal. The beer was just as good. However, this review will not do justice without mentioning the food. The Chicken sandwich and the Rueben are both great choices. The pretzel with cheese at night while slowly decompressing after a day of wandering museums is a must. Finally to the bar staff and the customers who entertained a California Central Valley guy, thank you. My wife and I have made the decision to visit DC again within the year and we will stay in the NW so we can be close to Boundary Stone. read more

Came here in a large group for a friends birthday. We had a to wait a few minutes as the previous party was still wrapping up. Once seated we noticed the menu showed brunch entrees are $26. The website shows entrees are $21 so this was a little surprising. The two servers were both friendly and trying their best but the restaurant was packed and they seemed to be the only two servers on the floor. The mimosas are brought around in pitchers and poured for anyone who wants one. All other drinks and food is ordered on the QR code. I got the hot honey chicken benny which is fried chicken, poached eggs, and potatoes. The food was delicious but I would say I not I did not get poached eggs. The chicken was well cooked and there was a good amount of sauce. I loved the potatoes too. This is a very comfortable space. Exposed brick, unfinished wood, small space that is intimate without being claustrophobic or cacophonous. I love burgers, and the burger looks delicious, but figured the habanero honey chicken sandwich was more unique. And I will tell you, for all the heat lovers out there - this sandwich will not disappoint. It is delightful. I roll my eyes at Thai and Indian restaurants anymore with their heat ratings. I make my own hot sauce. This sandwich will punish you. You cannot kiss your date goodnight. Only those who chase that endorphin high from capsaicin pain should venture this way. Today, my social group DMV Does took over the back bar for the Eagles vs Commanders. Who knew this was the popular Eagles bar!!! The patio is a vibe. The inside is electric and fun. The food was good. I had the whiskey bbq wings and fries for the game watch. I also had a lemon drop and am espresso martini. Olivia was the manager who set up the wonderful accommodations! I live across the street and would dearly love for this to be good. But serving me ghostly pink and downright crunchy tomatoes--cmon. Trader Joes is selling perfectly nice hothouse tomatoes less than a mile away. Putting this on my plate tells me no one gives a sh*t, can't be bothered to get on the phone with your supplier or come up with something better to flesh out the house salad. This was not helped by our waitress bringing my wife a similar sounding app instead of the entree she ordered and hacking up a lung throughout the process. I am prepared to grade on a generous curve for a neighborhood joint but I've been coming here since it opened, well before I moved to the neighborhood. The food was genuinely good, but the service left a lot to be desired. We went for bottomless drinks and were overly polite throughout, but still had to repeatedly ask for refills, even walking up to the bar at one point because our server seemed annoyed every time we asked for something. We didn't have silverware when we sat down, and when we asked for forks, the response was a scoff and a sarcastic "sure." We have all worked in restaurants, and to be fair, this might not be the servers' fault. It really seems like a case where ownership or management needs to do a better job setting their staff up to succeed. I came here for trivia night (Tuesdays at 7 pm) and it was a blast. There were a good amount of groups and the categories and questions were fun and relevant. The trivia host was absolutely stellar; he was funny, patient with the teams, and witty which made the experience all the better. The bar music was also surprisingly pleasurable, especially at a casual bar place like Boundary; Mamma Mia always touches my heart. The food was pretty decent. I was able to snag the fish sandwich off the Happy Hour menu. The batter was nicely flavored and the sandwich had all the fixes, however, the cod could have had been seasoned better. Additionally, the fries were pretty average and there was nothing too special about them. Boundary Stone was a great experience and a good place to bring friends to in Shaw. I definitely will be returning and bringing more friends to trivia there. read more

The oysters were delicious and came out with three different sauces. The chicken wings were a little small but the sauce was fantastic. They have a nice patio area so if there is great weather in DC I highly recommend sitting outside. The service was a little slow I felt at times that they forgot about us. Boundary stone is a solid restaurant in the Bloomingdale area. I just wish their food tasted a little better. I recently tried their brunch options with their new unlimited drinks if you arrive around 11AM and that aspect was great. The drinks were flowing and our glasses never went empty. The food however, left a lot to be desired. I ordered the chicken and French toast and the chicken had barely any seasoning and was quite small. My friend and I had brunch there today (first time for me, 2nd time for my friend) and it was amazing! Tucker, the GM, gave us an awesome vibe at the beginning before we even got seated. This place might be on point for drinks, but food it is not. Limited menu, my husband and I ordered iced teas. Had to stop our waitress for refills (and the place only had a few tables being occupied). Split the fish and chips. Our fish was undercooked (not white and flaky inside as it should be, but rather mushy). Fries were okay. I'm not sure if they make their own ketchup, but it had a very funky taste that did not appeal to us. We were going to order dessert, but the entrée was so bad, we decided to go elsewhere for dessert. Décor was nice, and in our opinions, the only thing that they had going for them. There is a 20% gratuity added immediately, so just a heads up. Might be why our server didn't feel the need to be attentive. Also, we were going to make reservations prior to going on a Friday night, but wasn't sure if we'd make it with traffic. We found it wasn't necessary anyway, but if you make reservations, you'll need to put your credit card up. I've been here before and on this occasion found out how awesome it is for private parties. My friend threw her husband a surprise party and Boundary Stone is perfect for it. We had this partitioned room in the back. With the sliding doors in place, we easily hid the partiers to give the birthday man a happy surprise. After he arrived, we opened the sliding doors and had direct access to the bar. Drinks were quickly made and delivered to guests, the food was varied and impressive (vegetarian, chicken, and beef sliders; oysters and shrimp in ice, grilled vegetables, and a charcuterie board) and the setup was great overall! This is one of my favorite places in the Bloomingdale area. A great mix of urban and rustic decor, great American food and amazing happy hour selection. Their happy hour lasts until 7 pm. I always start my order with drinks and a portion of their jalapeño flavored deviled eggs. Would definitely recommend you guys try it too. We order more appetizers depending on how long all of us want to hang out there. Love their wings, sautéed Brussel sprouts, and battered fried pickles. This in itself is plenty of food. Now, after couple of hours of munching on their appetizers, we order our favorite entree i.e. honey hot chicken sandwich and grilled chicken with veggies. Everything is absolutely delicious. If you have more room for desserts then try their chocolate lava cake too. I am sure you will love it. Also, this place is great for sport lovers. They play sports all year long. Boundary Stone has changed a lot since the last time I was here - which doesn't feel that long ago, but time flies so who knows, maybe it's been longer than I thought. Menu, ambiance, everything is vastly different (I think the only thing that is the same is the menu has the honey hot wings/sandwich). If I had never eaten here before I might have come away thinking the vibe/food was not for me versus feeling disappointed. I'll try to be detailed, because I do think Boundary is now going for a different thing that just didn't align with my expectations. Went for dinner since it's down the street and didn't feel like cooking. First, you seat yourself - this feels very Irish pub, but unfortunately I live in the U.S. and this is not the norm in DC, so a sign indicating as much would be helpful. Instead, we stood around waiting to be seated until an employee walked by and was like "....yeah???" with raised eyebrows. She wasn't rude exactly, but are we really the first people to show up and not know we were supposed to seat ourselves? Or, maybe she was just rushed off her feet and knew she would only be getting (splitting?) 75% of a 20% surcharge + whatever the 25% is the restaurant claims is for PTO/healthcare on top of her wages. You order via QR code (which I personally hate; husband prefers); the card with the QR code has a handwritten question/discussion topic which was cute. My daughter immediately asked my husband and me the question (took me a minute to realize why she was asking) and it was a nice personal touch. There is a physical menu on the table, but it's not updated. The item my daughter wanted to order was 'out of stock' via the QR link. We ordered drinks, 3 appetizers, and entrees. I can only recommend one of the items, so I won't name them all. Drinks arrived fairly quickly, and about 30 minutes later all the food was delivered at the same time. Maybe when you're ordering via QR code you're supposed to just keep adding to your order as you finish dishes, maybe you can learn from my mistake. The patty melt was good and would def order again; other apps/dishes were ok (nothing we would order again), but the spinach and artichoke dip app was actually bad. It looked unappetizing, and it just tasted like those cardboard packages of frozen spinach from childhood. Kid loves ketchup and I ordered and was charged for extra ketchup for her entree, but it was not delivered, and no one ever stopped by to ask how everything was/if we needed anything so couldn't ask for it. The upcharge is nominal, but unfortunately this entire experience was so subpar that I'm mad about it. Don't have the option to add extra sauce if staff isn't going to read the ticket and provide it. Or maybe just leave a bottle of Heinz on the tables instead of acting like DoorDash? Interactions with the staff (outside the awkward why are you standing here, OH you wanted to eat here, go find a table conversation) included 1. drinks being dropped off 2. plates being set on the table, which I subsequently had to shuffle around because of course the runner had no idea who ordered what. Checked out on my phone. A 20% service charge is automatically added, which was clearly stated on the menu and fine as supposedly it's to provide a livable wage/time off benefits/healthcare to staff, but I was annoyed that on top of that a 10% tip was defaulted with the usual option to do 5% or more than 10%. There is not the usual 'no tip' option. You have to select custom tip and enter $0.00 if you don't want to leave an additional tip. A tip is for service, and no service was provided. Someone dropping off food I ordered on my phone at the table I sat myself at is not providing service. It is very normal in DC now for restaurants to have a 20% service fee, and I always tip on top of that, but this is my first experience with that at a restaurant that didn't provide standard table service. I do think the prices generally reflected the mediocre quality of the food - it's not like you're paying $30 for an unappetizing entree, though some items did feel overpriced for the quality - but the experience/service, food and ambiance were not what I was expecting based on previous experiences here (literally since they opened) and I was really disappointed. If I go back it'll be because I'm in the mood for wings (hopefully the quality of those hasn't changed). read more

Chicken sandwich is thick and hearty with tons of flavor. I'd say it's a mild-medium in terms of spice. French fries has the perfect crispy and potato ratio. I was a HUGE fan of the fries. The best spicy marg I've had in the city so far! I've been hunting for a good actually spicy spicy margarita since September and I've finally found it. Not only was it good, but reasonably priced as well. The hummus and mozzarella sticks were great also with good portion sizes. Haven't tried dinner yet, but very much looking forward to it.
