Amazing service and amazing food! We were in town for a week and went there for 3 meals and loved it!!

I am in DC for a conference, so obviously solo dining can always be an interesting experience. I decided to give Ted's Bulletin a try as I was craving some classic comfort food after a long travel day. First off, service was phenomenal. I felt so welcomed and received equal amounts of attention compared to those groups of people who may have a larger bill. The inside was cozy and casual. I ordered the classic Ted's grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese was so incredibly melted and perfectly toasted. The tomato soup had a delicate, not acidic and not salty taste. It was just right. I also got the marshmallow cupcake to go, which unfortunately I did not grab a picture of because I was too busy enjoying it! A great spot if you want a good meal with a casual environment, given DC is a fine dining city. read more

We were in the area for an errand, but the shop didn't open until 12pm, so I had about 15 mintues to kill. I had not had coffee yet that morning, so I was on the hunt for my coffee fix. Google led me to Ted's, which is both a sit-down restaurant, but also a cafe/bakery in the front. I had an iced Americano, and asked for a tiny, tiny splash of half & half. I also had a strawberry "poptart". The "poptart" was pretty good. When my coffee came out, it was white. Literally, white. It was whiter than the iced chai latte with whole milk that my husband had gotten. I had to send it back. I asked for it just black this time around, because I just didn't trust them to get "a splash" right. They were willing to do it, which was nice. The coffee was good, but it just wasn't what I had originally wanted. read more

Usual "american fare". And a burger is just a burger (you have to work hard to make a bad one). What I have found really annoying is the hidden fees... 5% just because, and since there are no paper checks you have to look to see it. Tip options are 18%, 22%, 25% (apparently inflation also affects percentages!) But hey, what not do a bit of math? A 15% tip is great, they already charged me a cheeky 5%, and an additional 10% is easy to calculate! Owners: stop screwing your customers. Reflect the cost of your good in the menu. Don't hide it behind fees, taxes, tips and whatnot. Consumers are fed up. read more

Came here for the first time with hubby on a weekend. We ordered the fried pickles appetizer, seasonal ted tart (cherry blossom), mushroom gyro, and chicken and biscuits. Total came out to approximately $54, not including tip. What's Hot - Quality. Delicious. Their fried pickles appetizer is so good! My husband and I have tried our fair share of fried from numerous restaurants. This place is the top contender. The pickles are large slices, not overly battered, and served with a buffalo ranch sauce. Their buffalo ranch sauce definitely has a spicy kick, which my husband and I enjoyed. My mushroom gyro was so good! It was nicely seasoned, had a nice texture, and had a fair amount of vegetables included in the wrap. My husband and I enjoyed their fries, which are not too salty and have a nice texture. My husband really enjoyed his chicken and biscuits. He was disappointed that there was no spice from the hot honey that coated the biscuits. However, he loved the texture of the biscuits. The biscuits were soft and tender. They tasted freshly made. - Menu. That they serve breakfast all day is much appreciated, because my husband and I love breakfast. They have a good variety- something for everyone, including vegans. - Portions. Very good. My husband and I left full. Good value for money. - Location. Within reasonable walking distance from the U Street metro, which is helpful. - 5 percent service fee. It's in fine print on their menu, but it appears they change a 5% service fee so that their staff are paid a minimum wage. - Reservations. I made reservations and upon arrival, we waited less than a couple of minutes to get seated. Definitely recommend making reservations, because this place appears to be very popular and gets busy quickly. What's Not - Service. Inattentive and do not pay attention to details. Our waitress was not good. To start, we ordered water for drinks and our appetizer arrived first. After our appetizer arrived, I had to pull another wait staff aside and ask for water. Additionally, I finished my water glass and no one refilled it. My husband also asked for an additional side of fries. The waitress substituted the hash browns with the fries and we were charged $2 extra for that. I'm uncertain if substitutions are explained and included in their menu, but we were surprised by the substitution charge. - Acoustics. Terrible. The noise in this restaurant carries, so on days when it is busy, it gets very loud in here. Additionally, they play loud music. Combine the loud music with the noise of the customers makes it very difficult to have a conversation here. Definitely a detractor. My husband and I agree that this not a place we would return to for dine in. We will only order takeaway. Final Answer Willing to come back, but to order takeaway and not dine in. read more

Gotta love Ted's. Been to two different spot and the vibe is very different here at 14th St. Much more casual and relaxed. Came with my wife, daughter and younger niece. Menu had something for everyone. I had the grilled shrimp tacos which were very nice. Could have had some more heat to them, but that's ok, I should have noticed the milder ingredients. Staff were attentive and spot on. Would come again. read more

Was impressed by my initial visit. I've been an occasional customer at Cap Hill, so my first time to try another location of Ted's (there are 8 now). Ages ago, I used to live in an apt. on 14th Street, 3 blocks from here. Ted's was nowhere on the radar screen then. My, how this neighborhood has changed. Ordered the crab cake benedict. It's high quality, topped with a splendid, homemade hollandaise sauce (not from a mix). Split the order with hub; plating was lovely. Hash browns were golden crisp and cappuccino was delicious, plentiful. Very good customer service, too. read more

i can't speak of the food -- only that from friends i've heard it's very good. But! I can say they make the best strawberry milkshake around. It's served in a proper milkshake glass with whipped cream and rainbow sprinkles. AND the metal cup with leftover. Really a delight. And made from fresh, true strawberry ice cream. More people should have strawberry milkshakes for breakfast, and if they do they should start at Ted's. read more

We stopped in for brunch and thankfully we had a reservation because they were busy and bustling. After a short wait we were seated. The menu has lots of yummy options to pick from. We selected the chicken and waffles and grilled chicken. The chicken was white meat and said to be juicy and flavorful, the waffle was said to be on the drier side and some extra hot honey was helpful. The grilled shrimp tacos were lacking flavor and not enjoyable. Definitely not something I would order again. The server was attentive despite being very busy in his service area. My sister told me this was the place to go for breakfast in DC, and she was right. Ted's Bulletin was packed when we arrived, so there was a long wait, but we decided to sit at the counter instead. That turned out to be a great choice. Our server at the counter took good care of us, and the food presentation was very nice across the board. I ordered the pancakes with chicken sausage, and everything came out hot and well prepared. I have to say, though, the cinnamon rolls were calling my name. If my diet would have allowed it, I would have ordered one on the spot they looked incredible. They also had house-made Pop-Tarts and other pastries that looked really good. My sister had the Huevos Rancheros , and she really enjoyed her meal as well. The place was so busy that by the time they called our name for the original table, we had already finished eating and were ready to leave. On the way out, we saw more of the Pop-Tarts and baked goods on display, and it just confirmed that this is a spot worth visiting. If you're coming to DC and want a great breakfast or brunch spot, Ted's Bulletin is definitely a place you should put on your list. I'd give them 5 stars. read more

1. It took forever for us to have our order taken. Not the servers fault it was more of a staffing issue that day as only one person was manning the bar area during a busy happy hour. 2. Chicken Tenders batter was too thick and mushy. Truffle fries (Had no truffle flavor at all) must have been a busy day indeed in the kitchen as well as they may have forgotten to season the fries properly at least. Nothing else to say. read more

Continuing my alphabet series onto letter T representing prior to 2018 is Ted's Bulletin. On a personal note, I had surgery 12 days ago, which was a success and healing well, but still in hospital due to gastro-issues as a result of this which greatly delayed my release but I should be within days of being out of here. Also, when I tried to go to Yelp, I'd get access denied, but nurse last night said they were doing an update, so maybe it'll work after update. So, I'll crank out a review or two while I can until I get blocked again. I visited Ted's Bulletin on 14th Street twice both in 2014. Both experiences were pretty positive. May 2014 was a date, where I got a pop tart milkshake. We sat at the nice bar area drinking our delicious milkshakes. My mom visited me around Labor Day weekend 2014, and we had brunch here. I got something carb-y as I recall like waffles, pancakes with a couple of sides. It was very good. It was Pop Tart themed, which is what Ted's is known for. If I'm DC or other location, I'd be happy to go back to Ted's. read more

Ted's is a nice place, beautiful interior with only one negative drawback. First, I had the fish and chips with the Tipsy Toast Crunch milkshake, it was great. The tartar sauce is strangely sour, almost like a sour ranch. I appreciated that the fish was not oily. The milkshake was fantastic, the right amount of cinnamon and fireball whiskey. My husband had the meatloaf, which was equally quite good, but his Keylime pie milkshake he said, was too much of a clash of flavors. The only drawback, and the reason why the most they will get is four stars, is for the BS 5% service charge. They even put it in fine print so you won't see it. Which is a shame because it's my policy to deduct that from the tip. Restaurants are only doing this to gouge people, and it's absolutely wrong. read more

First and foremost, the food is always delicious! Keith was a great server and provided great hospitality. The ambiance of the restaurant is unmatched and gorgeous. Despite this, the restaurant does now have a 75 minute time limit. My family and I, on Mother's Day, came in for a 12:15pm reservation. At 1:10pm, less than 60 mins into our reservation, a manager named Gio walked past our table 3 times, constantly eyeing us as if to rush us out, before rudely asking us to leave saying that there were "other reservations." Never have I or my family experienced something like this before. He was unbelievably rude and entitled and, for frequent customers such as my family, this was not only upsetting but appalling treatment on such a holiday as Mother's Day. read more

Ted's Bulletin never disappoints! The service is always friendly, and the food is fantastic with huge portions. We started with the fried calamari--spicy from the sliced red chilis, which I personally love. For mains, we had the steak and cheese sandwich (tasty and a good size) and the NY strip steak, which was cooked perfectly medium rare. For dessert, we went with the carrot cake--huge slice and so good! The interior is really nice too--I love the ceiling, and we always sit in a booth, which is super comfortable. We come here all the time, and I usually grab something from their all-day breakfast menu too. Always a solid choice. read more

we started out with the halloumi kale salad, and then the steak Fritas. Both of these dishes were delicious. The steak free test was so tender melted in your mouth before warned. You must like a garlic to enjoy this dish.. lucky for us we did. For me, the highlight of the dinner was the boozy shake that they made . Being Dairy free I typically cannot partake in these.. but they had dairy free ice cream and milk to make these. I had a boozy, vanilla caramel milkshake, and it was so delicious. Literally the best thing that I've had in a really long time.. Don't wanna lose track of the food because it was also very very good. The milkshake just stole the show from me. I had never heard of this place when it was suggested we grab lunch here. Great choice! Our server was training a new employee so we had 2 people wait on us. Our main sever did not hesitate to make suggestions based off our questions and you could tell he wasn't just rambling. We selected a few appetizers - calamari, jalapeño poppers and fried pickles. The fried pickles were lightly breaded and great! I was deciding between the ahi tuna bowl (see the photo) and the shrimp tacos. Server suggested the bowl and it did not disappoint. Fresh tuna. So good and light. The jalapeño pineapple margarita was good. I also made the choice to buy a gluten free brownie from the front counter. Heavenly. All their desserts looked really good. I dined here at about 5pm on a Thursday....no crowd, no wait. It was pretty empty and therefore our food came out fast. I started with a Cesar salad and for my main course I ordered the seared branzino. It was ok, but didn't have a lot of flavor.... I added salt, pepper and squeezed some lemon to help. It was paired with potatoes and broccolini (originally came with Brussel sprouts but I swapped it for broccolini). The food wasn't bad but I've definitely had better with more flavor. The person I was with ordered the baked chicken and she loved it. My drink was very tasty, I ordered the blackberry cucumber mojito. Yummy! The service was great. Ann was our waitress and she was very nice and attentive. I'm not sure about the parking since I took an uber. The ambiance was very casual good for a quick bite or casual dining. From the moment we sat down, he brought the perfect mix of friendly energy, quick service, and that "I've got you" kind of attentiveness that makes brunch feel like an event. My coffee cup somehow never made it past halfway before he magically appeared with a refill and was honestly impressive and very appreciated. I've been to this beloved DC brunch spot once and really enjoyed it, this was years ago though. My fiancé and I decided to return on a recent long weekend DC trip. I highly recommend making a reservation for this spot because it gets really packed. On this visit, my fiancé ordered the French toast with scrambled eggs and added some chicken sausage. I got the blueberry cheesecake Ted tart. I'm a sucker for locally made poptarts and remember loving theirs the first time I got it. On this trip, I didn't care for it as much. I think I wish they had warmed it up or brought it to me on a plate instead of a baggie. My fiancé felt like the French toast was more toast-like and barely soaked in any egg. We did enjoy the scrambled eggs. The hashbrowns had a nice crunch on top, but the rest was ok. And the sausage was very dry. Unfortunately, this visit was a bit of a hiccup, but maybe we just ordered the wrong thing. I'd still come back to order something different. read more

Ted's is amazing. This was one of our favorite places on our trip to DC. I missed coming here on my last trip but after going this time, Ted's will be a must-visit anytime I am in DC. Picture a historic building housing an upscale but down to earth diner and you will understand what Ted's is. It is located in a neighborhood and has a neighborhood joint kind of appeal. Service was friendly and we were made to feel like regulars despite being a long way from home. I get the feeling that there are a lot of locals who visit regularly. It just feels like that type of spot. My youngest got a massive strawberry shake to accompany her meal. They put it in a glass like normal but also sent the metal cup with the excess. For the price of one, she got two. Needless to say, she was thrilled. I got a club sandwich because I love club sandwiches. It was delicious. One would think it would be easy to make a good club but one would be wrong. Ted knows what is up and did a great job. Finishing out our meal was a homemade pop tart that we all tried. Best pop tart ever. PS - They have at least one IPA on tap. Get one with your club and thank me later. Come to Ted's. You will be happy you listened to me. read more

By far one of the tastiest versions of salmon benedict I've ever had! Norway Benedict, substituted crispy tater tots for the traditional toasted mcmuffin. Fresh smoked salmon, creamy hollandaise, perfectly poached eggs and dijon frisée salad made for a gorgeous, delicious breakfast. Washed down with a smooth caramel latte. Whew had a great time here with even better food. We split the cinnamon roll as an appetizer which was fresh warm and amazing. The glaze is excellent! I had the chicken salad which was excellent. The salad was big filling and chicken was well seasoned. The eggs were like deviled in my salad. Others had chicken and waffles and loved it and someone else had the club sandwich. Decided to try with a small side of the noodles that were prepared in a tangy Asian marinade. Really enjoyed the bowl. Friends liked their food too.
