We went think we would start off our pumpkin spice season at Ted's Bulletin but they sold out by the time we got there. Then we wanted something else with pumpkin spice and that was also sold out. So we did finally order. I ordered the braised short rib which was delicious. Now the ultimate reason for the rating is because they charged us an automatic 5% service fee and we weren't aware of that. We didn't see it posted or written on the menu and then they want us to pay tax and tip on top of that. It's too much. Which also makes me expect stellar service from the staff. No hiccups, no mistakes, no I'm sorry buts, just great service because I have to pay for it! It is not the responsibility of the customers to pay your staff's wages. Walked in for lunch on a Wednesday and was seated right away. I was honestly surprised by how empty the restaurant was as I was being shown to my table. Once I sat down, I quickly learned why. On a hot August day, the restaurant had no air conditioning. Since I was hungry and on my lunch break, I decided to stay. Thankfully, my waiter was kind and brought me cups of ice to help me stay cool. He explained that they had been without air conditioning on and off for weeks. That is absolutely horrible working conditions, especially in a restaurant with an open kitchen concept. I ordered the pancakes with eggs and hash browns, adding bacon, along with the ginger turmeric drink. The food and drink were a solid 10/10. Unfortunately, the atmosphere was another story. Throughout my meal, several people walked in, realized how hot it was, and walked right back out. Honestly, it was cooler outside than it was inside the restaurant! I was surprised because I've always enjoyed going to Ted's, but this experience was extremely disappointing. I probably won't be returning to this particular location. I've also heard from other patrons that there always seems to be something wrong at this location. The food was excellent, but the conditions made it nearly impossible to enjoy the experience. My mom loved her food (her grits were delicious) but I didn't really enjoy my food. My favorite parts were the toast and bacon. My eggs were VERY plain and weird tasting (even though there's an upcharge for cheese it added nothing) and my hash browns tasted like grease. I decided to give Ted's Bulletin a try as I was craving some classic comfort food after a long travel day. First off, service was phenomenal. I felt so welcomed and received equal amounts of attention compared to those groups of people who may have a larger bill. The inside was cozy and casual. I ordered the classic Ted's grilled cheese and tomato soup. The grilled cheese was so incredibly melted and perfectly toasted. The tomato soup had a delicate, not acidic and not salty taste. It was just right. I also got the marshmallow cupcake to go, which unfortunately I did not grab a picture of because I was too busy enjoying it! We were in the area for an errand, but the shop didn't open until 12pm, so I had about 15 mintues to kill. I had not had coffee yet that morning, so I was on the hunt for my coffee fix. Google led me to Ted's, which is both a sit-down restaurant, but also a cafe/bakery in the front. I had an iced Americano, and asked for a tiny, tiny splash of half & half. I also had a strawberry "poptart". The "poptart" was pretty good. When my coffee came out, it was white. Literally, white. It was whiter than the iced chai latte with whole milk that my husband had gotten. I had to send it back. I asked for it just black this time around, because I just didn't trust them to get "a splash" right. They were willing to do it, which was nice. The second time I got the brunch pasta (with maple breakfast sausage- such a unique offering) and washed it down with a downright heavenly Cinnamon Toast Crunch-inspired boozy milkshake. Love the food so much that I insisted on bringing some out-of-town friends here for brunch on a Saturday. I noted the 75-minute dining limit in the OpenTable confirmation, which we had every intention of respecting, so I was a little miffed when the host came by very soon after we paid (about 45 minutes into the reservation) and asked if there was anything else they could do for us (the polite way of saying "get out, we need your table"). We definitely got the message, kind of laughed about it, and my friend got up to use the restroom before we left. On his way back he saw some of the staff pointing at our table and referring to us as the ones who refused to leave. I would understand if we'd sat there yapping for two hours, but 45 minutes was too soon to put on the pressure. My two friends and I made reservations here on Saturday at noon. Now as someone who works in the industry, I understand brunch on the weekend being busy, but not waiting almost 30 minutes for our reservation especially when we were on time. The cinnamon bun was delicious with a side of bacon and our food came out quickly. But like 10 minutes in to eating we were already being asked if we wanted boxes. For the rest of the meal we were being rushed. I think my group was only there for 45 minutes. Within minutes of paying the check we were told we had to leave because of limited timing. This was the manager rushing us and probably making the server ask us for boxes multiple times. Bad customer service. Our waitress was not good. To start, we ordered water for drinks and our appetizer arrived first. After our appetizer arrived, I had to pull another wait staff aside and ask for water. Additionally, I finished my water glass and no one refilled it. My husband also asked for an additional side of fries. Also, when I tried to go to Yelp, I'd get access denied, but nurse last night said they were doing an update, so maybe it'll work after update. So, I'll crank out a review or two while I can until I get blocked again. I visited Ted's Bulletin on 14th Street twice both in 2014. Both experiences were pretty positive. May 2014 was a date, where I got a pop tart milkshake. We sat at the nice bar area drinking our delicious milkshakes. My mom visited me around Labor Day weekend 2014, and we had brunch here. I got something carb-y as I recall like waffles, pancakes with a couple of sides. It was very good. It was Pop Tart themed, which is what Ted's is known for. Despite this, the restaurant does now have a 75 minute time limit. My family and I, on Mother's Day, came in for a 12:15pm reservation. At 1:10pm, less than 60 mins into our reservation, a manager named Gio walked past our table 3 times, constantly eyeing us as if to rush us out, before rudely asking us to leave saying that there were "other reservations." Never have I or my family experienced something like this before.
