Last year, I got a chance to attend a Yelp event that was held at Art and Soul. Since this restaurant had been on my radar for quite a while, I was glad for the opportunity to attend the Yelp event as it gave me an opportunity to sample their food. What I sampled tasted good. This past Saturday, we finally got here. We came by for an early dinner and were seated and greeted in a prompt fashion. We noticed that their bar was doing a good business but the dining area only had one other occupied table. Right away, we noticed that the chairs sat low to the ground. As a short person, I felt like I was a little kid sitting at the adult table. Plus, the table was wobbly. We found out just how wobbly it was when my husband cut his burger in half which caused my glass of water to splash some on the table. All in all, not a comfortable way to eat. Our server came to our table in a timely fashion and took our drink orders. My husband had an O'Doul's non-alcoholic beer while I ordered a drink (I think this was the name) "watermelon sugar high". As for the drink, in addition to watermelon, it had a lime wedge and a big sprig of basil. The end result was that the basil overtook the watermelon. For dinner, I ordered "Seared Branzino" which consists of: "asparagus au gratin, smoked potato and corn". My husband ordered the "Angus Burger" which consists of: "cheddar cheese, steak sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickle spear". For his side, he chose fries. My branzino was properly prepared. The fish was flakey and moist while the skin had a nice crunch to it. Underneath the fish was the asparagus au gratin which had melted mild cheddar on top of it. Under the asparagus was the mashed potatoes which didn't even have a hint of smokey flavor. In addition to the corn, were what looked like (and tasted like) very tiny tomatoes. The asparagus was properly prepared as it was tender crisp plus the portion was generous. Overall, the fish and the asparagus were the stars of this dish. My husband thought his burger was moist. He ordered it "medium". The one thing he didn't like --- the roll didn't stand up well as it started to disintegrate as he ate. While working for the agency with the 3 letters this used to be our go-to for work functions. Looks like I posted pictures back then and never left a review so here we go! My better half loves to have FUN, if it's not fun, we aren't doing it. To make our fourth memorable he decided to staycation at Yotel right in the heart of Capitol Hill. Yotel took over this establishment and kept the name. We ate twice here, which were both two different perspectives. The bartender who helped us on day one was super attentive and our meal came out fast! The manager was present, vocal and immediately greeted us when we sat down. The second time around we had breakfast and that was a little bit challenging as they were busy and overwhelmed. We got seated with no menus and it definitely took a while before we were greeted by our server. The menus for whatever reason were all missing but two according to our server. And the prized chicken was not available. When our food arrived my honey waited a long time before butter was brought out to him upon request. A few hiccups and definitely in need of more wo/man power on weekends but overall I'd come back in hopes they would make amends of the less than ideal second impression. Ambiance is chill, casual. Ladies leave the gowns at home. Let's get into it! Deviled Eggs - Super GOOD! Crab topped ones were the star of the egg flight. Chefs salad - Very Good even with blue cheese that I'm not fond of. Stopped in here for a quick bite to eat. The restaurant is inside a hotel so there is lots of space. It was open and bright and the decor was modern. We sat outside on the patio. The service was slow, but otherwise fine. I ordered the wedge salad without blue cheese and add chicken. It came out with no chicken on it. They must have realized it, because the next time I saw someone they brought me a sliced chicken thigh on another plate. The salad had good flavor and I enjoyed it after the chicken came. I walked accross the street from my own hotel for some quiet time away from the group I was with. First impression was that this place was great! I didn't see a whole lot of patrons, quite music playing, empty seats in the bar. My friend met me at the bar and we both ordered an angus burger. It sounded perfect. I guess neither of us paid close enough attention to the menu when ordering. The meals came out fairly quickly and I finished about half of it. It was so filling. It came with fries that were amazingly delicious. My friend just picked at her burger. I asked her is she wanted to take it back to the hotel and she said that she didn't like it. Both my burger and hers had a BBQ sauce on it that she didn't care for. I didn't like it much myself but still finished about half of it. Malik, our waiter, was busy as he was the only person working the bar that afternoon. While we didn't need anything aside from refills on our drinks, it was still unusual to not be asked more than once if we needed anything while in the restaurant for several hours. The environment was very relaxing and we were able to talk amongst ourselves until a couple came in and sat down next to us. I love coming here, especially to relax with the awesome bartenders who always make my visits worthwhile. However, on this particular day, I decided to take food home instead of cooking dinner, and unfortunately, my experience was disappointing. I ordered the Seafood Jambalaya with modifications, as my partner does not eat pork or chicken. When my order arrived, something told me to check it--and I'm glad I did. The meal alone cost $30, yet the packaging didn't reflect that value at all. I expressed my concern, and the manager on duty, Jamal, offered a solution, but it still didn't satisfy me. Instead of addressing the issue properly, they simply brought me extra pasta and noodles--which was not what I needed. Chef Robert then came over to discuss the modifications and stated that he included "8 shrimp" in my dish. However, when I got home and checked, there were only 5 shrimp--and to make matters worse, the Seafood Jambalaya is supposed to come with crabmeat, yet mine had NONE! If I had dined in, I guarantee the portion would have been larger. The to-go containers were ridiculously small, more fitting for an appetizer or dessert, not a full entrée. HELL NO. Thankfully, they were nice enough to refund me, but you cannot fool a foodie and a loyal, paying customer who frequents Art & Soul all the time. I honestly regretted not going with my gut and taking my business elsewhere, but I didn't want to waste money twice. This is a convenient location across from my hotel. They specialize in American food with a modern twist. I ordered an arugula salad and a red snapper dish. The fish was really good but later found out because it was just barely cooked (slightly raw), so the chef came out to apologize and made a new one for me. They were really trying to just cook it, making it slightly undercook. Nevertheless, the remake of the dish was fantastic with nice fluffy fish. They also made squash fries and pumpkin ice cream, which was really unique. They also served brunch, which I came back to try and it was really good as well. I had a drink at Art and Soul's bar this week when I was in DC for work. The bar area isn't huge, and it feels very much like a hotel lobby bar (it's inside Yotel). But the service was good and the wine they opened up for me as good, too. Not a bad place to grab a drink if you're staying at the hotel or are in the area, but just be aware there will be three businessmen on calls with their laptops at a table. For what I thought would be a great place to have lunch, I was proven wrong very quickly. I ordered a burger and instead of fries, I opted for a salad. The burger was supposed to be medium and it was well done and very dry. I don't send food back to the kitchen so I tried to make the best of it. There was literally only 4 patrons in the restaurant for which I feel is a busy part of the city during lunch hours. The ambiance was great, I just wish the food matched the vibe of the restaurant. Simply delicious. Not much more to say about the food. It was a simple breakfast that was delicious because that sausage was so good. Actually, I don't know how I would rate the deviled eggs vs the sausage since toast is toast (although that wasn't just white bread from the toaster) and the eggs are were over-easy but nothing special. I would love to tell you that the eggs were so good because these chicks received weekly massages and 30 minutes in the hot tub every day but I assume they are just eggs as far as I know and I didn't get to meet any of the chicks that produced them so... Oh, and by chicks I mean chickens. If that sausage was not hand-rolled or made in-house, I would love to know where they came from. Else, I'll have to make another visit. The lunch food is excellent! We didn't have reservations but sat at the bar and the service was fabulous. Attentive but not overbearing, the salmon is excellent! Money downside is ambiance - it isn't very warm and I didn't care for the decor. The hotel lobby is basically in the restaurant and I just didn't feel like it was intimate. This place is located in the Yotel next to the lobby. It's across from the Hyatt Regency and trust me the food here is a lot better. The Hyatt is pretty bland compared to this awesome restaurant. It's Good to make reservations ahead of time. There was even a violin player entertaining everyone for breakfast. My friends and I shared the crab deviled eggs and I had the BLT Benedict. It was delicious! Came with a side salad and overall was just such a great breakfast. My friend had the chicken and waffles with jalapenos. Amazing! Such a cool presentation. My other friend had the breakfast sandwich which was good for him and it's what he wanted. Great food here! To top it off, the hostess was the most friendly lady in the world. She just made sure we were taken care of and she was friendly and welcoming and a bit playful. Loved her! Did not catch her name but she had what sounded like a Caribbean accent. Visited Art and Soul after searching happy hour specials local and near the capitol building and I was pleasantly surprised. The bar has plethora of options from bar side sitting, tables and out door options. Although outdoor cannot serve food. All items are placed at the bar too. I ordered everything off happy hour and had a wine, the wings and the truffle fries. My wine was good not the best Cabernet I had but it was the house and priced reasonably. My favorite item was the truffle fries. They were well seasoned are large portion and delicious. I did order them extra crispy though and they didn't have the "crunch" factor I wanted and needed but overall still yummy. The wings were smoked well but lacked seasoning. I got the dry rub wings which were supposed to be lemon pepper and got the mumbo sauce on the side. The wings were cooked well but the seasoning flavorful profile was lacking. However the mumbo sauce was able to assist and bring it to the next level. Overall the service was great and food came in a timely manner. They're in walking distance from the Hyatt so they're a convenient choice. When we walked up to the hostess stand, they all looked at us crazy. It seemed like they had an issue that we were a table of two with no reservation but they were pretty empty and we were able to be seated right away. The wait for someone to come over took forever. Two groups came in and left unserved before the waiter came to our table- that's how long the wait was. We considered leaving but really didn't want to walk around. When the server finally showed up there was no mention of the wait and he took our order. The food came out so fast... I was shocked. The chicken and waffles were very good. The herbed cream cheese is worth the calories. Delicious!! No capers, but it was chopped olives. Also the pickled onion was a perfect balance!.Staff is amazing!! Went here for brunch to catch up with one of my girlfriends and some highlights were: - the restaurant is inside of the Yotel (yes yotel lol) hotel, which has a self parking garage. The restaurant will validate your ticket if you ask, and they will provide you a follow up ticket to insert after your original ticket when leaving, which gives you a discounted amount to pay of $14! The gag is, it's only $14 if you leave within 2 hours.... We stayed at the restaurant late so I ended up paying $23 lols - We decided to do the brunch tasting menu, which is $38 dollars per person. With that, you have the ability to choose one starter (we got the blueberry and oat bread - so delicious, it's like having a blueberry muffin, but with a blueberry jam/spread than actual blueberries), a main dish (we got the farmers breakfast, it was very filling) and then one dessert (we got the cinnamon roll but without the frosting - it can be too overwhelming with it included). - The waiters were very attentive, but not so much that it felt like they were helicoptering our table, which was appreciated. - I love how the inside decor was formally casual, so it set a relatively relaxed vibe to enjoy a nice brunch and good company. I think I've found my favorite brunch in DC! My friends and I had an extraordinary experience at this beautiful restaurant located super close to the Capitol Building. We tried the brunch tasting menu, which is an incredible deal that comes out to less than $40 per person. I began with the blueberry bread, and when I tell you that it was the best sweet treat I've had this decade! It tasted like the perfect combination of cornbread, pound cake, and a cookie. The whipped butter on top elevated it to an even higher level. That bread went directly onto the list of best bites in DC. Wow! The Brussels sprouts and kimchi bowl was super tasty with a delicious sauce throughout. The farmers breakfast was super standard in the best way. Biscuits and gravy lived up to the hype, and the chocolate ganache tort was the perfect way to end the wonderful meal. It was rich and decadent! The restaurant is beautiful and very spacious. We were surrounded by two large birthday parties and still felt like we had the restaurant to ourselves! Our waiter Victor was funny and very charming too. A group of friends and I ate there today for lunch and we were incredibly disappointed. The restaurant was almost empty, and it took about 20 minutes for a party of 7 to be seated. I'd understand if the restaurant was full, but there was only 1 other table. Next, the waitress took very long to take our drink and food orders. Then, when they did take the drink orders, they came back and told us none of the specialty drinks we requested from the menu were available. Also, they never brought my friend the coke he ordered. When we finally got our food, it was terrible. My burger was way overcooked. My other friend ordered a wedge salad and it wasn't a wedge, more over, they added pickled onions which was not on the menu and was not requested and they did not include cherry tomatoes that was listed in the menu. Even better, when they brought the tomatoes, they weren't cherry tomatoes, they were large sliced tomatoes. They never offered desert and it took way too long for us to get the bill. We sat at an empty table for about 10 minutes with no wait staff insight. Finally, the staff was openly arguing next to our table about setting up an event space and whether it should be set up today or tomorrow. Everything was terrible and over priced. read more

We needed to find a place that could accommodate a last minute reservation for a group of 8 and our hotel recommended this place that was at the hotel next door. The cocktail list was somewhat limited, but I had the vanilla fashioned which was quite good. For my entree I had the duck confit which was served on chickpeas. It was good, but not terribly exciting. For dessert they had house-made ice cream on the menu for $3 a scoop. I thought I'd get a scoop since I didn't want a big dessert but our server said I'd have to order three scoops? And the flavors were chocolate, vanilla and strawberry...so again, nothing too interesting and I definitely didn't want three scoops so opted to just skip dessert. 3.5 stars. A decent tea with a few improvements I would suggest- it seems like they haven't been doing tea that long and need to hone things a bit. Really enjoyed the scones (appreciate that you get two!) and the pineapple curd especially. Wish there had been some sort of clotted cream rather than butter- this is very important to most tea aficionados. Both scones, but brown sugar scone in particular was delicious. They were warm so we ate them first. (I always go scones, sandwiches, desserts, ESPECIALLY if the scones are warm.) The tea sandwiches were delicious although they differed from the items listed on the menu- for example, our "beet sandwich" was actually apple and cheddar. Which is fine; just let us know. There were a few things like that- what we were told was peach jam was apple; items missing some of the ingredients off the menu, etc. Lots of little surprises! The desserts as well were delicious & they were all pretty creative. There is the choice to add macarons or truffles for $5, so we did that. They didn't have any truffles but the macarons were good. I don't love the idea of add-on tiny desserts to tea though; I think those should have been part of the tea service and it should just be a few dollars more or something. I do think the price point is already a little high for the amount of food you get- $65 ($70 with the macarons before tax and tip) is close to what the Ritz or Peacock Alley, or other very upscale hotels charge. It's just 4 sandwiches, 3 small desserts, scones and one type of tea. I don't think it's quite that price level yet. The tea itself: not a large selection, only one black tea. They do have CBD infused teas if you're into that- that is cool and new. I had the Earl grey blend and the tea had a nice flavor but it was very weak, and also the person who brought it out poured it into our cups before it had steeped properly so the first cup was basically just hot water. It never seemed to brew properly after that and was just weak the whole time. They used tea bag, not loose leaf, and used the same bag for multiple pots. The wait staff were very attentive & professional throughout the whole tea, so this was a strange, probably inexperience-related misstep. The most important negative is the parking validation- after being assured by the restaurant we just needed to tell the parking guy, he refused to grant us the $14 price and made us pay $23. He said we should have had a ticket- which we didn't know where to get, but he said it was too late since we had already entered. The whole thing was very unclear & put a damper on the end of the day. Decor was nice and the ambiance was good. Staff were mostly great except for the parking snafu. They had a violin player which I usually like but I could have done without the multiple happy birthday riffs and encores . Love live music at a tea though, it's a fun idea. "Meh" is the best way to describe it. It seems like a lot of people really love this place but I wasn't impressed. My friend picked it out from a Yelp search while we were wandering around DC. When we arrived, I realized it was in the lobby of a hotel ~red flag~ Usually - not always, but usually - restaurants located within hotels kinda suck. Why? I've found from my own experience that hotels are more concerned with quantity over quality. They have a captive audience who are likely to pay above average for below average food. They usually buy their food in bulk so they can keep up with the constant cycle of new guests resulting in once frozen, unfresh foods. While not every hotel restaurant is like this (I've certainly experienced a couple that are fabulous), Art and Soul did give me that vibe. The chicken sandwich was lackluster. The meat seemed undercooked and not fresh. My friend got a breakfast sandwich. The cheese wasn't even melted. The mac and cheese was subpar - lacked flavor and was super oily. It was all edible. Not much else to it though. The bartender seemed like she thought we were a bit of an inconvenience. In all fairness, it was a pretty packed house though. I wasn't upset with the experience but I also wouldn't return. There's far better places in DC at about the same price (or less). read more

Okay, so I found this place through TikTok and naturally I wanted to try it but knew that I had to see what my fellow Yelpers had to say. Well, at the recommendation of Yelpers I ordered my entree and I was thoroughly PLEASED! Service: This staff along with our waiter Bobby (I am sorry if I got it wrong) was absolutely amazing. Very hospitable service from the front door to the table and literally everyone, whether they handed you a plate or refilled your water, was so hospitable. Thank you to the entire staff who worked brunch today. Drinks: I ordered this beauty called the Tropicana and let's just establish that this is one of the BEST cocktails I've had in a really long time. The balance of passion fruit juice and rum created the perfect summer drink. It was good enough to make you feel nice at your table but balanced enough for you to stand lol I thoroughly enjoyed it. Perfect 10 Food: So, this is why I removed a star. Sadly the deviled eggs were not as appetizing as they looked. They lacked the right flavors and had a strong mayonnaise taste over any other seasoning and spices. I'm still not sure what the crab meat brought to the dish because I didn't taste anything. Unfortunately, I stopped after one egg and knew I wasn't going to finish the rest. Entrée: And here is where my fellow Yelpers came in great. Few gave great details about the short rib hash while others talked about the chicken and waffle. I decided to trust the few and you did not disappoint me. This dish had such a sweet and savory balance which gave a burst of flavor in every bite. The kale, short ribs, potatoes, and poached eggs were prepared to perfection!!!!!! PERFECT 10! I decided on a side of breakfast potatoes after the waiter informed us that there wasn't much potatoes added to my dish. I'm glad I did because those potatoes were scrumptious! Ugh! I highly recommend it for brunch and if you're a meat lover, try the short ribs hash. If you're vegan, my friend had a delicious avocado toast made to accommodate her dietary needs. I was starving so I went to the bar for quick dinner with my book and really liked it. The bartender was very nice and attentive. The Mac and cheese was pretty tasty and the cornbread was pretty standard. The chicken Cesar salad was good but the chicken itself was a little undercooked. You are paying for presentation, and not food. The taste is decent, but not for the price. I paid $50 after tax/tip for a dish with about 4 ounces of meat. Didn't even fill me up. Breakfast is also ridiculous. $25 for a few pancakes that taste like it came from a dollar store mix. Even if it didn't, we are talking about less than $1 worth of product for sub-standard tasting pancakes. Every single person I saw was using coupons provided by the hotel. I would be surprised if anyone pays full price here. read more

The food is on the expensive side. I got a burger for $30, which even from west coast standards is expensive. The chef has changed so all the beautiful pictures I saw on the internet of the food were not what I found when I ate at the restaurant. They don't even have printed menus, a waitress is carrying a small paper where the menu is written. The restaurant was pretty empty when we went there. The food is just ok, nothing exceptional. The bill came to $150 for 3 ppl, and only 1 person ordered an alcoholic drink, no appetizers, just entrees. With so many better options in the DC area, I would give this restaurant a hard pass read more

Food was okay. Service was okay. Ambiance also just okay. We had a 10a reservation for brunch. The waitress was a tad snippy, felt as though we were being rushed to order. We ordered drinks those were good. We ordered appetizers they didn't come till after our meal. Very disappointing as we kept waiting for them and we're rushed to order our meal to then have the apps never come. The food was subpar, for as many things that said made in house tasted more store bought or out of a container. The apps finally came after we had already began eating our meal. She claims the kitchen has a new system and they never got our ticket. Don't believe that but okay. The blueberry bread and pancakes were the best thing. The maple sausage tasted regular. The Braised Short Rib Hash is a definite winner. A bed of delicious sweet potato and caramelized onions with a generous serving of chopped braised short rib meat, sautéed kale, topped with two eggs (the menu suggests poached but I changed to over easy), Chipotle Hollandaise (the right amount of peppery earthiness flavor to counter the tangy sauce) and spring greens.... Delicious!! We also ended up ordering more Blueberry Bread, that was warm, gooey, very sweet, and delicious. read more

Making a reservation was easy. Server was one of the best severs I've ever had! Thank you Victor. The food was great. It was so good I forgot to take photos of all the food. I went to brunch.
