Yellow Cafe absolutely lived up to the hype. We had read great reviews before visiting, but we were still a little unsure. The moment we arrived and saw the place packed with people, we knew we had picked a winner. Since it was our first visit, we asked the cashier for recommendations, and they pointed us toward the Smoked Amba Chicken Pita, BBQ Lamb Shoulder Pita, and Shatta Batata. Every recommendation was excellent. The standout was easily the BBQ Lamb Shoulder Pita. The lamb was incredibly tender, full of flavor, and paired perfectly with the fresh pita and toppings. It's an absolute must-order if you're visiting. The entire experience--from the lively atmosphere to the outstanding food--made this one of our favorite meals in DC. We'll definitely be back the next time we're in town.
Very nice location! I stopped in after doing some shopping in the Union Market area to grab a pick me up drink -- their Halawa Honey Latte with oat milk is so smooth, nutty, and not too sweet. They were pretty packed out and were able to turnaround orders pretty quickly. I would definitely be back!
I've been a number of times to the yellow in Georgetown, but this was my first time to the union market location. It's nice that they have a pick up window to make it easier for online orders because even around two an hour before they close there was still a line out the door. It was moving pretty fast, so not as big of a deal. There's a decent amount of indoor seating, and I felt like the turnover of tables was pretty high with open seating, so not too hard to find a seat. I ordered the BBQ lamb shoulder pita which is also apparently rated one of the seven best sandwiches in North America. I can understand it. It was actually really good. A lot of good flavors. I felt like it was going to be not filling in the beginning, but was actually quite filling and had good meat depth in the pita. They pitas are made in house, so small imperfections make it more original. It is a little bit saucy so definitely grab some napkins, but it's a ton of flavor and definitely makes sense why it's one of their signatures. A popular Middle Eastern inspired Cafe. It has two branches in DC with slightly different menus. I have been to both places for breakfast/brunch. Tried the pita, the labneh, the Zaatar Croissant and the Roselle/Malabar tea. The tea was my favorite. Very refreshing, with a hint of spiciness. The pita was huge; each weighed about ~6oz so one piece is generally enough for one meal. It was freshly baked and very fluffy and relatively thicker than the pitas in most restaurants. The labneh was just normal. The Zaatar Croissant was stuffed with lots of labneh and coated in Zaatar. The Zaatar smelled amazingly but did not have much taste. The labneh went well with the croissant. In short, it is an interesting cafe but not a must-visit place if you are traveling in DC -- even if you are a fan of Middle Eastern food like me:)
Cute Middle Eastern cafe near Union Market! There was a bit of a line, but it moved fairly quickly. I had the soft serve labne with pomegranate molasses, EVOO, and sea salt, which was a pretty unique combination. It was decent, but the price felt steep ($9) for the amount of ice cream given. I don't think I'd have this again if I were to go back, but the other items (harissa BBQ cauliflower pita, etc) looked super good. Overall, I would give this a 3.5/5; the soft serve wasn't bad but I didn't love it enough.
I may or may not have stopped by Yellow simply for their soft service ice cream! I had the Labna flavored soft serve which is basically like vanilla yogurt. It comes topped with pistachios and baklava flakes. The best part? They pack more of those toppings within the cup, so you're getting even more chewy baklava goodness distributed throughout. Now, $12 for ice cream is a bit crazy, but so is buying anything in DC. It was also bustling in there so basically I need to return for their dinner!

About a 30minute wait. Once seated though service was fast and friendly. We decided to share a couple of dishes which is definitely the way to go. I recommend the octopus + soujek kebab and you have to order the hummus for the pita alone if nothing else - their pita is GOOD. And we finished the evening with the baklawa and pitaschio labne which was DIVINE, I'd go back for that alone. I'll admit having only tried their breakfast menu, the kebab prices caught me off guard especially when I realized it would be $20-30 for ONE kebab and everything else would be a la carte including any rice or flatbread. The quality is definitely worth the price though.
We were recommended this place and super excited to try! There was a line when we arrived around 11am on a Saturday but it moved pretty quickly. We were hoping to try the Za'atar croissiant but they had sold out by that time, so definitely go early to get the best selection! It was packed but we easily found a couple seats and food came out super quick as well. We had the smoked amba chicken + BBQ lamb shoulder pitas and were really impressed. The BBQ lamb was amazing! We also tried the apple cider soft serve w/ candied almonds, which was yummy and refreshing. We finished it off with the pistachio basbousa (an olive oil cake)... I found it to be a bit too oily for my taste, but overall we loved the food and are so so happy to support Palestinian-owned businesses.
Everything was amazing. Friends and I had the lamb humus (which might have been the best of the best of what we ordered), the chili crisp labne, pitas with both, then the lamb, chicken, and steak kabobs with the habibi rice and the flatbread underneath, and finished it off with the twist soft serve. All the food was insanely insanely good, all home runs. Only minor minor complaint is I wish they had more dessert offerings than just the soft serve.
Yellow has been on my list for a long time but I never wake up early enough to make it for breakfast without running into a line. Decided to drop by randomly one morning recently and finally got to try the daytime menu items. When I saw the menu ahead of time, I knew I had to try the Za'atar croissant - croissant filled with a lot of labne. Labne is my favorite, this croissant was definitely not lacking in labne or in flavor. The only thing I wish is that there was a warm option. I also had a little sweet option for later and had the chocolate halawa. The crunch on this thing is what was most memorable. It was sweet but not too sweet or overpowering and light enough it made you feel like you weren't breaking your diet goals too badly. Overall, I'd love to try some more menu items, was a little thrown off that they seemed a bit less special coming directly from the display, but they were still yummy!!

I get it. I get the hype. I get the inclusion in the Michelin guide. The line, the close the door policy, the area where parties packed like little sausages waiting for a table, or their order to be called, it was all worth it. If I'm honest, they had me at French techniques and middle eastern flavors but it helped that a friend's friend recommended Yellow, and the Union area in general. To be honest, I almost skipped it entirely after seeing the line, but I'm glad I stuck it out. Although I couldn't make out the menu until my time to order I was proud of what I ended up with- the halawa honey, a smooth balanced coffee for the coffee lover seeking a sweet treat, and the smoked amba chicken pita. I now feel inclined to go back and try everything on the menu. From this brief introduction alone, I feel Confident that anyone who bear the line will be rewarded. read more
Saw this restaurant pop up on "Somebody Feed Phil" so I had to check them out since we were close to a location. Since it was later in the day, they were out of some of their baked goods items. So we grabbed the bbq lamb shoulder wood-fired pita sandwich and shatta batata tots to share. The sandwich was big in size, so you can easily share it. My daughter and I shared it and we both liked how filling it was and the ingredients were fresh. The lamb was super tender and the combination of flavors were amazing. The tots were also seasoned well. It also came with a tasty creamy dipping sauce. I did wished they were cut in layers like a hasselback potato like I saw on the show. I thing texturally it would have been more interesting than the current tots which had chunky pieces of potato in squares. For the drinks my sister got the coconut cardamom and I got the peanut dalgona. The peanut dalgona drink is the drink to get. I loved the flavor profile and the creamy topping. The place was busy. At the end of the day reservations aren't required. It's sit where ever available. Overall we had a great time. We would come back again. read more

Finally made it here! We were originally going somewhere else but changed mine.. ended up at Yellow. Since we were early, we were able to fit seating somewhat easy. Ordered Baklawa mocha, coconut cardamom, strawberry rose muffin and jammy egg. All were 10/10! Would def come back for more! read more

Was actually on my way to get ice cream somewhere else and decided to stop into Yellow Union Market instead. So glad I did! I got the jammy egg croissant, the coconut cardamom latte, the strawberry rose croissant, and the baklava latte, and everything was incredible. Such a cute spot with great food and drinks. I'll definitely be back! read more
Popular for good reason. The dessert here is super unique, delicious and affordable- all great additions for the DC area. Lines can be long during peak hours but well worth the wait. The service and line goes fast anyways. Seating can also be hard to find but there are lots of places to take your dessert to go. Would recommend highly! read more

This was the one restaurant I shortlisted before our DC trip. I also wanted to try their different dishes Georgetown location, but unfortunately we never made it out to Georgetown. But this location was one I wanted to visit because of the kebabs. Glad it delivered, both on food and service (overall service was really good during this trip). The pita bread was excellent. It wasn't your traditional pita. It was closer to pizza bread. I asked if it was what they use for their Not Pizzas at their Georgetown location. It wasn't. Our server wasn't sure what the difference was but there was a difference. It was great by itself but even better with the hummus. We tried the lamb kebab and the butcher's steak kebab. I'm not sure if the butcher's steak changes. Ours was picanha. It was perfect. Get the habibi butter rice. We got ours crispy for an extra $2 but you don't have to. They don't have a kids menu. Our server recommended the soujek with the tahini on the side. It was like a sandwich. He liked it. I usually don't order dessert but I read so many great reviews for their famous labne soft serve I had to try it. Very good. The crunchy baklava at the bottom was a nice treat to contrast the creaminess of the soft serve. Lastly, I'll also recommend the Arak Lemonade. If you like sumac you'll like this lemonade. I was staying in the NoMa area and wanted to check out the Union Market but ended up seeing this place for a spot to get a quick bite and coffee. I arrived around 11am so I just missed their breakfast. However, I was still excited to check this spot out as they serve Lebanese fare. It was packed inside as there were people there working remotely and just meeting up with friends. I ended up ordering the smoked chicken pita, iced Halawa honey latte, and to go a coconut almond arak pastry. I was able to find a seat at a communal table with other that were working remote and waited for my name to be called. I received my drink first which was this iced latte that was sweet but nutty. The flavors just went together so well it was a great pick me up for my early travel and adventure in the city. Next up was the smoked chicken pita which had crispy potatoes, pickles, and labne. First, let's get into that pita. It was so soft and buttery and piping hot. I truly enjoyed the soft pita with the smoked flavorful chicken. The crispy batatas or potatoes was a great contrast to the juicy chicken and crunchy pickles. Everything meshed so well together. I ended up eating my pastry later that afternoon in my hotel and it had this sweet coconut almond filling, that reminded me of frangipane. I definitely bookmarked this spot to visit whenever I'm back in DC, definitely will try to hit this place a bit earlier or even later in the afternoon. read more

I was so excited to try Yellow! I had only heard good things, and I have to say that it lived up to the hype. I got a pita chicken sandwich and a decant pastry with pistachio and cherry. I also tried a fancy signature iced latte. Everything was amazing. I especially loved the pastry. I definitely want to go back and try some of their other goodies. They are often packed! I went during off hours to avoid a line. And I took my food to go to avoid scouting out a table. read more
THIS WAY HABIBIS INDEED. gosh the arab representation in DC is UNREAAAAAL. As a SoCal native, seeing all the immense support for levantine and palestinian businesses in the DMV is an absolute fresh air, and all you gotta do is TASTE THE FOOD!! The lebna soft serve is so so delicious, reminiscent of tart frozen yogurt... but the pomegranate molasses is just perfect with it. BUT THE COOKIE???? I had planned to grab something quick from Union Market. I had never heard of 'Yellow,' but the line out of the door and the Yelp reviews led me there. I loved my sandwich and my hot cider. I would go again! Pro Tip: Read carefully when reading the reviews. Some are for a restaurant with the same name on Georgetown. read more

I was in the union market neighborhood and stopped by Yellow to see what the hype was about. It's like a cafe with grab and go feel paired with an open kitchen restaurant with a seating area for heavier foods. I felt kinda awkward standing around waiting for my drink order while all the seats were taken in the larger half of the space. The wait wasn't too long. I'm not a coffee connoisseur so take this review with a grain of salt. My Halawa Honey (tahini + brown sugar + honey) iced latte was good, but had like a grainy texture in every sip. I'm sure it has healthy properties and maybe would try it warm next time. read more
This is the best restaurant in DC. The ambiance is incredible, the service is perfect, the food is to DIE for. We started with cucumber salad, arayes (my personal favorite) and fattoush. We got some labne and carrot hummus with the pita (which is the fluffiest I've ever had). Then we went INTO the mains with swordfish, steak, halloumi, and vegetable kebobs. We added some falafel and battata harra which you cannot miss. When we felt like we couldn't eat any more, we finished with every kind of labne soft serve (the baklava one is my favorite). I LOVE this place and I need it to deliver kebabs stuffed into the massive pitas for lunch. read more

I have been to yellow multiple times and when people say it's really good it's actually really good! My favorite has to be the lamb kebab and you have to pair it with their habibi butter rice and a side of their spicy hash brown tots! Also great to pair with their carrots, sumac cucumbers, and olive sides as these even out the richness of the entrees. The waiters are so friendly and accommodating and overall the ambiance is top tier! Make sure to visit them during their daytime cafe too as they have lots of coffee drinks and pastries! Oh and their pita sandwiches! Parking here is not bad there is a lot in front of union market that you now have to pay for and another garage near by. You can try your luck at the spots in front of the warehouses. On a weekend it might be more crowded by weekday we got one now problem. read more

Let me preface this by saying that we live in NYC, so we are used to amazing coffee shops. This is also limited to their coffee. A friend mentioned their pita sandwiches are great, but we didn't try it. Overall, OK. We even went twice to try different drinks; nothing out of the ordinary. On a positive note, the place is fairly spacious. Considering the other options in terms of coffee shops around the area, though, this is probably one of the most decent ones. read more

This place is packed! It was a nice bright day and decided to go try Yellow cafe as people have been raving about it. I ordered the BBQ lamb pita sandwich. Unfortunately, it took almost an hour to come out. They initially told me it would take about 20 mins but when I went to the cashier, they said another 5, then another 5 again! In total I waited about 45-50 mins for 1 pita sandwich (,: Once it did arrive, it tasted amazing! The lamb was super flavorful, the feta added a nice salty component, and the veggies freshened it up. My only note would be to stuff the lettuce and tomato inside the pita so it's not all at the top. When we got to the end of the sandwich, it became too meat heavy. read more
Note: this cafe/restaurant is very loud & very much a young, hip atmosphere; but at the same time multi-generational & family-friendly. Stumbled upon Yellow while exploring the area during the evening. First - I must say that this former factory and industrial area feels like LA and with a revitalized energy and unique reclamation of architecture and public space. Saw an A-Frame sign on the corner "Habibis this way!" and knew this business would be stellar. The speakers installed on the front awnings were playing a mix of hip-hop & world music sounds and arabic lyrics, a few diners sat on the unique yellow seating out front and a north african family with 3 kids strolled to the front, everyone looking at ease with a casual night out. Loved the glass case on the front facade with merch & popped into take a look at their menu & last of their bakery items. The place was packed and people were enjoying wine and gorgeous grilled platters and hummus. The Staff was surprisingly very welcoming for a night club feel. Liked how the yellow tiled counter led to an open kitchen. This business is across the street from I think an Italian restaurant and VanLeeuwen ice cream shop & this was THE spot to be on the block! I went back the next day (11:30 am ish) for an iced Turmeric Honey Latte ($6.50) and it was great. Asked for it with less honey, the coffee was medium and smooth (had asked for decaf, but they might've just only used 1 shot), appreciate the small round ice cubes. Would like to try their kebab sandwiches (pitas looked so fluffy) or pastries like Za'atar Croissant with labne (yogurt) or Halawa Chocolate Chip Cookie next time. The place was pretty busy and many people were eating falafel or kebab sandwiches. They seem a little pricey, but I think it's reflective of the quality - and rent, staff. I came at a time where there were only one or two people in line ahead of me, but when I left, there was already a queue, forming outside behind stanchion. There's something about the crowd that I really appreciate - super diverse, people look relaxed and friendly, non-pretentious, a few young families, also tourists seem very happy to stumble upon there. Appreciate the Free Palestine T-Shirts that a few customers were wearing. I sat outside on the front seats with my drink, a woman came and sat with a book ordered a sandwich and coffee. I wouldn't say that it's the best environment to read or even to work at. Also posting pictures of one of the single restrooms - so much thought in the interior design and appreciate the accessible changing table & yellow cabinet and height of the hook on the door! read more
By now, everyone knows Yellow is delicious and one of the best cafes in DC. The line starts outside, but we didn't wait more than 10-15 minutes. Starting with the positives, the food and drinks are spectacular. Their ingredients and flavor combinations that are so unique to me and very well balanced. As far as room for improvement: I remember having more potatoes in my order -- only recieved about 6 of them, which makes the $7 price tag too steep -- but they are stellar. My honey halva iced latte could have been a tiny bit sweeter as well. But make no mistake: Yellow is incredible. I split the egg pita, batata potatoes, and the labne croissant with another person which was a perfect amount of food. Keep in mind that while the egg pita is filling, it's on the smaller side and may not be enough to fill you up on an extremely hungry day if you don't order anything else. read more

Popped in specifically for their collab with @dolcezzagelato creating the creamiest and nutty pistachio gelato, topped with crispy and lemony phyllo pieces Their gelato is a special right now, so be sure to stop in before October 5! This is a review for Yellow's dinner service, All the Kebabs. The food was great but I wish it was a little cheaper, given it's fairly basic and the atmosphere is basically a cafe. We had two kebabs -- Lamb Kefta ($26) and Rockfish ($32) -- with flatbread below it ($8), the Charred Corn w/ Labne dip and pita ($15), and Pistachio Sundae ($12). Plus the Levantine G&T ($14) and Hamama ($15) cocktails. The kebabs were delicious and nicely cooked. I loved the spicy red spread on the flatbread. They came with some whipped tahini, herbs, sumac onions, and grilled peppers and tomatoes. I liked the Labne dip less; I wanted more corn and spice flavors, and I wanted a thinner pita. But those are personal preferences; the quality seemed good. I loved the sundae and the hamama cocktail; excellent flavors in both. The food was enough for two people to be comfortably full without leftovers. The service and atmosphere don't really go with the prices. I like how the place looks, but it's still a cafe, with lots of exposed wood, stools, industrial ceiling, etc. All the hard surfaces plus loud music made it pretty loud inside. Stopped in last night for a quick treat to help me power through packing for my flight. I ordered the turmeric & honey latte with coconut cold foam, and my girly got the tamarind tea -- both were good. Not too sweet, just right. I really appreciate when I can actually taste the coffee without it being drowned in sugar. Service was solid, especially considering how packed it was. Only downside was the layout -- the cashier is right next to the entrance, which led to a bit of a traffic jam at the door. The ambiance was cozy, but the space definitely feels tight for how popular this place is. A larger location (or better flow) would make a huge difference.
