Yellow continues to live up to the hype. I stopped in for the skillet with lamb and a croissant sandwich, and both were excellent. The skillet was packed with flavor the lamb was tender, well-seasoned, and paired perfectly with the other ingredients without feeling too heavy. Great, fresh Levantine food. We (vegan and meat eating patrons) visited in the afternoon and ordered the veggie pita and steak pita. The guy helping us suggested the steak although the chicken was their most popular. The steak was very tender and flavorful. I heard the veggie pita also had great flavor. I'm a little hesitant to write this review since everyone is crazy for Yellow but I honestly would give it 3.5 stars. I went on a rainy day to avoid waiting in a long line and probably still waited 10-15 minutes to order! It's a really small storefront and the inside was PACKED. You order at the counter on the left and wait at the counter on the right to pickup which gets very crowded. There's seating on both sides but with people waiting for their food and hovering to grab a table it is incredibly busy! I had no chance of getting a seat as a single diner and think they could really benefit from some barstools along the wall. I ordered the smoked amba chicken pita and the tahini brownie. My food took about 15 minutes to come out which was not bad at all. The pita was really good and the chicken was flavorful and tender. Really enjoyed the sumac onions as well. There's a lot of seating indoors but can be a little hard if you're looking for a quieter atmosphere. They also have a couple of seats outdoors. The pastries were almost barren/nearly sold out, but definitely saw and have had previously the chicken shawarma pita sandwich which was delicious! This time I ordered the Halawa Honey which was a bit too sweet, but it was a nice twist of flavor and you could taste the tahini. So honestly, this review is a little strange to write, as I went on the night (unbeknownst to all of us) that Yellow was doing their final "pizza" service for the foreseeable future. We had a late reservation, and when we got there, the server told us they were holding two pizza crusts just for us because THAT WAS ALL THEY HAD LEFT, never to be made again. So, it won't necessarily help a future visitor, but nonetheless, I am fairly sure everything you get here is darn near guaranteed to be 5-stars. The pizzas were phenomenal, but there was plenty we had that is going to be staying on the menu. All the different mezze we snacked on were wonderful, highlighted by the humble hummus. Which... not so humble here... was incredible. We dipped all our pizza crusts in it, which the menu highly recommended. The cucumber salad was alot a fresh highlight, with a bright dressing, lots of colorful inclusions to excite your eyes, and fresh veggies throughout. Had a very good first experience here. Came around 2pm on a Sunday. Parking surprisingly easy. Counter service line was pretty quick. The wood fired pita was fantastic. The flavors inside paired very well, but the lamb itself, while tender, was pulled and didn't have enough to hold up to the rest of the ingredients. At times felt it was pulled beef it that makes sense. I'd love for the lamb to be almost kebab chunks for it to stand out a bit more. Long line, but definitely worth it. Came in on a rainy day and close to closing time (closes at 3pm on Sundays and Mondays), so one can imagine that the pastries were already swept. They were a few left, so we got an orange blossom oat toffee cookie. It was perfectly balanced with floral notes, tanginess from the orange, and caramel-y sweetness from the toffee. We also appreciated the lattes: halawa honey and baklawa mocha. Never thought to add tahini to my coffee (halawa) and the rose and orange blossom notes were nice touches to the baklawa mocha. You may add sweetener yourself to get it to your preferred level of sweetness. Just going to re emphasize that the food is absolutely incredible, packed with flavors and just made perfectly. It's truly some of the best most flavorful food you can get. Quality of food (and drink) wise, there's truly no notes, from the pitas to pastries and coffee. Now that does not mean there are no notes. Firstly, pricing, coffee and pastry is fair but the sandwiches, $20+ for half a pita is absurd, not even getting both halves of the pita. And then the experience is just so frustrating, there is absolutely no flow of people. The space itself is well curated and has some great seating available, but due to how crowded it gets, it's a truly horrendous experience at times. And while I would say they could have a cap on how many people are allowed inside at once i feel that's a semi unrealistic implementation (though i genuinely wonder if they're over capacity at times). A bit easier to address would be the flow. They have an enter and exit door, but folk keep ignoring the signs, idk how but come on this needs to be fixed. It also does not help that the exit door opens inwards into the crowded restaurant so it's at times nearly impossible to open the door as there's a crowd or even a table and chairs in the way. They're fairly efficient in making the food but there's still a bit of a wait, and the space to wait is not very large despite the constant flow of people so there's always a large mob, and many have to wait awkwardly in between tables and seated customers. Drinks are served and called out separately from food, which makes sense; and they're given without kids so you can add things, also logical. However, the sugar, syrups, milk, and lids and all on the other counter, so you have to cross the counter where food is being picked up and through the mob in order to get to a lid, just praying that you don't get bumped and spill. The food and drink are fantastic, though overpriced for the portions. But something needs to be done about the experience , whether it's the layout, workflow, capacity, whatever, something needs to happen. I mean i will probably go back but I'd recommend getting it as takeout so you can actually enjoy the food, but i cannot say it's an enjoyable experience inside. read more

Such a great place to grab a quick bite for a snack! I shared the burnt eggplant (not) pizza and it was perfect. It had such a smokey flavor to the eggplant and the red peppers gave it a nice tartness. It also came with the chili oil that I asked for on the side since the person I was with doesn't like the spice and it was a great addition for people who like it spicy. It had garlic in it so it was flavorful on top of being spicy. We also tried the tamarind tea and it was VERY sour so we added some sugar and it was perfect. Yellow had been on my radar for a while since its appearance in "Somebody Feed Phil." I knew, when watching that program, that the Breakfast Batatas were an inevitable part of my destiny. So after visiting family in DC, we made sure Yellow was a stop for us before heading to the airport to go home to L.A. To say we were not disappointed is to way oversimplify the joy we experienced eating the baked goods and batata. We loved everything and felt like we were truly indulging in unique treats, done so well, we'd have a hard time finding anything as good anywhere else. No reservations here - You get in the line to order and hopefully by the time you get your food, there'll be a table or space somewhere for you to eat it. (We got lucky.) The house-made pita and hummus...among the best we've head. The Orange Blossom Croissant (I mean I just want to eat those words, and the pastry itself lived up to that desire.) And of course the breakfast batatas, which we got a side of. These were truly a destination food, worthy of going out of your way to eat, and perhaps even build a trip to the D.C. area around just to make sure you experience them. THEY WERE SO GOOD! The drink options are unique too...I had the Halawa Latte to try and stick with the Levantine theme of the place. It was pretty good but tasted a bit more like a regular latte without too strong or noticeable halva element to it. I'd probably try something else to drink next time. The place was crowded, hard to find a seat, and there was quite a wait to get into the single bathroom...so plan your time accordingly so you don't stress if you need to be somewhere else. This place is seriously busy! We managed to snag a table in the middle of weekend brunch rush, and I'm so happy I got to try a bunch of items on the menu. The pita is so incredibly fluffy and goes well with everything. I loved the well seasoned chicken accompanied by lightly dressed veg and a creamy garlic sauce tucked into a fluffy pita pocket. The layered potato tots were both crisp and soft but honestly didn't quite live up to the hype. We also tried the classic hummus with the pita chips, which are real pita bread fried in house. While I enjoyed their thickness and crunch, the portion of chips didn't quite match the generosity of the hummus. Please up your chip game. Hummus was soooo delectably tangy and rich. Loved the fresh evoo and herbs scattered on top--really provided some extra texture and variation. I really wanted to love this place :( yellow's decor and ambiance are very bright and inviting, and the wait staff was so kind and helpful. we split a pizza, which was very tasty, but the ribs fell short in terms of flavor and presentation, and only receiving 3 ribs for the price point felt unnecessary and honestly just not worth it. We also got the affogato, but we had to send it back because the ice cream had a taste that we were not expecting and regrettably didn't care for. The croissant was flaky and so nice. The bagel wasn't your heavy typical NYC style, it was soft and had a really nice flavor. I also ordered the halawa latte, which was really good. Highly recommend as our group was contemplating whether we should go here for breakfast the next day. PS - Seating can be hard to find and breakfast is till 11am only!
