    Chicken Caesar Wrap
    Rachel B.

I was craving a chicken caesar salad wrap and saw that they had one on the menu. It was pretty mid. The wrap was kind of thrown together and loose, so it was falling apart and I had to use a fork. There was barely any salad in it and way more chicken. I felt like it was disappointing for the $20 price point. Their baked goods looked good. Maybe I will come back and try something that's a more traditional Jewish deli item.

    My fave!

As a plant based person, wasn't sure what my options would be. Good healthy option. I had a veggie wrap, minus the feta. It had spinach, tomatoes, onions and mushrooms. No sauce to tie it together but a fresh option for my first meal of the day! Pickle bar!!! I'm a fan and may have gone back twice lol! Loved the variety but the full sour was my favorite!! I am obsessed with this bar! They served very large portions from what I could see. My aunt said her food was good. Noted that her omelette wasn't cooked with any seasoning. Also said it too large of a meal for her first meal, which definitely I a complaint I would never have! Lol. Overall cute spot, good food and amazing customer service!

I loved the pastrami sandwich! It's exactly what I needed for lunch! I ordered it with rye, lettuce, tomato, cucumber, mayo, and mustard. The pickle came with it. As you can see from the picture, the sandwich is filled with pastrami slices. The taste was good! Excellent takeout experience.

Mike & Mel's is a solid go-to, especially if you're hopping off the Metro--street parking is limited. The staff keeps things tight: clean tables, a well-kept pickle serving bar, and efficient service. The pickle selection alone deserves applause, ranging from super sour dill to spicy hot--choose wisely. The sandwiches are no joke and easily a full meal. You'll be asked to choose 8 oz or 12 oz... a true moment of self-reflection. How hungry are you, really? They were out of the potato knish, so I opted for the meat knish--and honestly, no regrets. Think potato and corned beef hash wrapped in a crusty dough ball. Add spicy brown mustard and suddenly you're in a tasty delight of savory heaven. Don't skip on the chicken noodle soup in this cold weather - rush chicken breast meat in a light broth - Yummy! Hearty, satisfying, and unapologetically filling--Mike & Mel's delivers old-school comfort with zero fluff.

Deliciousness - 4/5 Happiness - 3.5/5 I'm happy to have a credible Jewish-style deli in the area. Although not nearly amongst the best delis I've been too, it definitely hits the spot in this area. You order at a touchscreen and then they bring it to your seat. I ordered a sandwich stuffed full of corned beef and brisket. Although it was a true mountain of meat (which I love), it was lacking in the flavor in that there wasn't enough differentiation between the corned beef and the pastrami. The fries were very good - perfectly salty and well crisped without losing the potato/starchy taste. I also got a side of breakfast potatoes that I would definitely pass on next time - they were just too heavy and bland to order again. The Russian dressing was nice and pleasing. And a huge shout out to the pickle bar - lots of varieties and all tasty. I also ordered some food to go. I brought home brisket, which had the same issue as the corned beef and pastrami (not enough flavor). But the tongue was good, if a bit too thickly sliced. None of the desserts (cookies and rainbow cake) were memorable. But the FISH was excellent. The lox were nice and fresh and packed a good punch of salty/umami flavor. They went well with the expertly cooked bagels. I also got some sable and it was fantastic. I really enjoyed every part of the breakfast offerings (besides the breakfast potatoes). I will be back for a sandwich when the mood strikes, but I'm more looking forward going back and trying the fish offerings and more bagels, as they impressed a lot.

As much as I wanted to knock this place based off the price, I can't seem to do so. I went here for lunch yesterday and I can say I would come back. I'd also recommend it to others. I had got the brisket melt, a sweet tea, and a cookie all for ~$30.00. The brisket melt was a gorgeous looking sandwich and tasted phenomenal. The cookie was baked perfectly. Hard edges yet soft in the middle. I do wish the sandwich came with fries or something on the side to make me feel like the price was worth it. It's definitely not no potbelly, subway, pret, bozzeli's, or jersey mikes. I'd say it's a once a month or every blue moon place to go for lunch unless you had money like that to spend. I believe the sandwich was ~$20.00 (normally $18.95 but for cheese it was an extra $1.00 which was odd since it's a melt so you'd think cheese comes with it), sweet tea was ~$4.00, and the cookie $2.00. I added the cookie simply based on the price. I knew I didn't want to come back here for a mid-shift lunch so I figured I might as well try the cookie. However, the tastes of the sandwich made me want to come back for a mid-shift lunch. I definitely judged a book by its cover! I'd probably try something cheaper my next go around but when I looked at the cheaper options nothing spoke to me. The staff was very friendly! I have a feeling they would have corrected an order with no problem should an issue had risen. Ambiance was cool. Restaurant was clean and pickle bar was a surprise.

Ordered a pastrami on rye with mustard, and found it to be ok. I had to remove as much of the mustard as possible as it heaped on and took away from my ability to taste the pastrami. The meat itself seemed fine with a decent amount, although I struggled to finish it due to the overwhelming mustard flavor. I may return if nearby, and don't want to hit pot belly.

Convenient location for lunch in downtown DC. Very friendly service. A bit cumbersome ordering system if you choose to eat in: you place your order on the screen and pay by swiping your credit card, then you go and pick your table, then you keep wondering how they will find you. The sandwiches we tried were ok but nothing special. I also tried a Greek omelet that was just ok. Toasted bread that came with it was too soft, two tiny packs of butter ( for which I paid extra $1) were almost fully melted and were a mess to unwrap. Unexpected: there is a free pickles bar with a great choice of different pickles, including my favorites - half sour. Overall rating - solid 3

Since opening, I've been here 3 times for lunch. Each time I ordered a Mikey-sized pastrami sammie. If you've been here, you know what that means. On the initial visit, it was so-so, but it was outstanding on the 2nd and 3rd. The wait has ranged from 40 minutes in the 1st, to 15 minutes for the 3rd, so improving. They've run out of certain offerings and had to substitute. Also, a side order of potato salad was missing on a to-go order. I've been hoping for a Carnegie Deli-type spot for a long time in downtown. I feel that the best delis in the DMV are actually found in Baltimore. I read that Mikey & Mel started out in Fulton, MD, and this makes a lot of sense to me. This is their 2nd location, and an ambitious one at that. More "working out the kinks" needs to continue. However, overall, this deli has some good eats.

History of Present Indulgence: 32 yo M presents to evaluate newly established Jewish delicatessen in the Dupont Circle region of Washington, DC. after a doctor's appointment and craving a sandwich for lunch. Physical Examination: Food - Upon inspection, sandwich specimens present with extreme density and remarkable meat-to-bread ratio. "The Spielberg" was gustatorily evaluated and demonstrated excellent integration of corned beef, pastrami, and the less commonly observed beef tongue. Cheese was Swiss and tangy, crunchy cole slaw along with the Russian dressing balanced the heaviness of the meat combo superbly. Mac salad accompaniment noted as "good" but without any exceptional commentary. The creme-de-la-creme was the self-service pickle station, inclusive of half sours, full sours, hot sours, and chip pickle forms. This establishment feature provoked significant positive emotional response, reported as "elation," "I can't believe I can just have endless pickles," and "oh my god the hot sours are amazing!" Ambiance - Environment presents with appropriate delicatessen characteristics. No adverse atmospheric conditions noted. Pickle bar access unexpected and well appreciated. Service - Fast casual establishment service with added bringing of orders to tables. Amazingly friendly workers noted and enhanced dining experience. Assessment: Premium-grade Jewish delicatessen with potential superiority to previously established gold standard (Katz's in New York). Plan: - Return visits a must - Will bring family and friends to establishment - Sampling of bakery offerings including black & white cookies, bagels, rugelach, and unspecified pastries recommended for follow-up visits - Comparative analysis with Katz's advised to establish definitive hierarchical placement in Jewish delicatessen taxonomy

    Overstuffed Chopped Liver Sandwich
    Shenise F.

Mikey & Mel's Deli is the latest transplant that has made its way to DC. I would have never thought this part of the city would be jam packed on a Saturday, but I quickly understood the popularity. After ordering on the kiosk, seating is first come first served, so be prepared to order your food to go if you can't find a seat. I loved how the menu had sandwiches named after celebrities like Larry David and Seinfeld. I had the opportunity to order several items off the menu and here is what I chose: - Black & White and Sprinkle Cookie - The Seinfeld - Chopped Chicken Liver Overstuffed Sandwich (3/4 lbs) - Everything Bagel with Lox Spread - Chocolate Chip Pancakes Even though I came hungry, I still walked away with a take out bag. I highly recommend that you checkout this establishment for yourself. Don't forget to check out the unlimited pickle bar and pack up a few for the road.

    Pastrami Reuben

It was my first time in D.C. and my first visit to Mikey and Mel's Deli. When I walked in, I noticed the self-service kiosks but decided to go to the counter for some guidance. I was immediately greeted with a warm smile from Monea, who went above and beyond to make me feel welcome. She patiently answered my questions, offered great menu insights, and, with help from Ricky, recommended a few of their popular items. I ended up ordering the Pastrami Reuben and a side salad, and they didn't disappoint. The Reuben--served on fresh rye with Russian dressing--was stacked high and packed with flavor, even though I only got the half-pound portion. Before sitting down, I discovered what might be the highlight of the experience: the famous pickle bar. It had everything--horseradish, sour, half-sour, hot pickles--you name it. A fun and delicious touch that really sets the place apart. KJ brought my food to the table and checked in to make sure everything was just right. Later, I noticed Brittany moving through the dining area, helping guests, answering questions, and making sure everyone was taken care of. The teamwork between the front counter, dining area, and kitchen was seamless and professional. Every interaction--from Monea and Ricky's friendly guidance to KJ's attentive service and Brittany's energetic hospitality--made this visit exceptional. The entire crew worked together to create a genuinely welcoming environment. Great job to the Mikey and Mel's Deli team. Keep up the great service, the smiles, and the teamwork--you've got a winning formula that makes people want to come back.

    Pastrami sandwich on rye
    Joshua K.

I recently got a pastrami sandwich to go via a food-ordering app and was able to get my order hot and at the exact time of my order. The pastrami was amazing-the perfect amount of fat, cure, flavor, and salt. The sandwich also had a good amount of pastrami for the price, and the bread was solid. However, my pastrami sandwich did not come with deli mustard despite me clearly indicating it my order. Additionally, the sandwich did not come with a pickle on the side, which is a must for any pastrami sandwich at a Jewish deli. I would much rather have had the pickle than the small fruit salad I got with the sandwich. Nonetheless, Mikey and Mel's is a great recent addition to the DC Downtown restaurant scene. I look forward to my next time getting Mikey and Mel's!

The space is gorgeous; I love all the plants, and the light brown, light blue, and white color combination for their furniture makes the space look classy and modern. The light brown leather couches are comfortable, and I love the way they circle around the tables to create a natural, cozy booth. Our food was just as beautiful as the space. The Restaurant Week menu comes with an appetizer, main, and dessert. Given how indecisive I can be (and how expansive the normal menu is), I was grateful to have my choices narrowed down a bit. I started off my meal with the octopus. The octopus was remarkably tender and not overly chewy, and had a delightful char that gave it a slightly smoky flavor. They double downed on the smokiness with their burnt chili oil, which, alongside the lemon and salsa verde, gave the dish a wonderfully balanced smoky, savory, and slightly acidic flavor. The crushed potatoes had a lovely crispy shell on the outside and served as a great base for the tender octopus. The main course was probably the easiest choice of the evening -- I'm absolutely obsessed with branzino, so the second I saw it on the Restaurant Week menu, I knew that was what I had to get. The fish is beautifully broiled, with a nice, crispy skin and super tender, flaky flesh. It's topped with a few pieces of roasted garlic and a wedge of lemon. The fresh lemon juice, as well as the lovely side salad, offered a great pop of freshness to bring the whole dish together. And finally, for our dessert, I chose the chocolate torta. This wonderful dessert is remarkably rich and decadent, with a strong dark chocolate flavor. It's topped with a lovely marsala date sauce and scoop of sheep's yogurt ice cream, but still doesn't feel overly sweet. The sheep's yogurt in the ice cream offers a bit of tanginess, and I loved the addition of the candied walnuts for a bit of crunch.
