I recently took my close friend out for lunch to St Anselm. I got the Cheeseburger and he got the Fried Chicken Sandwich. Their french fries were out of this world. The French fries were also very well seasoned and the cheeseburger was on point. I've been told how fresh all of their ingredients are but now I know. This was amazing. Cheeseburger is only on their lunch/brunch menu. They do not have it on the dinner menu. Service was fantastic.

Good, but maybe not as good as it's been? Sunday night party of 6. Slightly uneven. Service was weird. Our waiter and main busser were obviously arguing through the meal. My son's ribeye was a fatty mess. Inedible. Sent back. The Wagyu was great. Our waiter seemed to be hearing impaired. The bday celebration was botched. The food was delicious and it's a great value, but after today, I won't be rushing back.

While visiting DC for work, I craved the best steak in the area. A few places popped up, but this place caught my attention based on reviews, photos, and the time it would take me to get there from the metro. Coming from the Navy Yard it was about a 10-15 train ride with a short 5 minute walk to the restaurant. The restaurant gave "high class" but with affordable prices. Almost like an upscale bar if that makes sense. The gentleman who waited on me was very attentive and gave one major recommendation, I needed to get their buttermilk biscuits. So, of course I did. They were huge, fresh, and delicious. They do come with a pimento cheese but I was not a fan so I used butter. Either way they were great. I for my entree I got the prime ribeye paired with the pan fried mashed potatoes. It was a lot of food but I had no steak left over to take back to my hotel. I finished my meal with the rainbow sherbet. I spent just about $80 and it was well worth it. The side was large and honestly I could've done without. Not because they weren't good but my steak was just that good without. I will be visiting again.

We had a great experience as a last minute brunch in a group of 5. We had fantastic service and no complaints in food. If you're dropping in for brunch, definitely get the biscuits and crab deviled eggs for the table. I also had the smoked salmon (you can probably skip this one).

The stellar reviews have it right. This is my go to place for steaks. A tight menu where everything is carefully prepared and delicious. Ordering. Many of the steaks and sides are quite large and easily feed two. The 16 oz ribeye is the best example. Tender, juicy and aged on site to perfection. The sides are easily enough for two. The pan fried mashed potatoes are not to be missed. The mushrooms are a perfect complement for the steaks and the creamed spinach is delish. Before you get to all that, you must MUST order the biscuits that come with a whipped pimento. I'm a southern boy and no one does a better biscuit. Sorry momo. The staff is attentive and on it. Just a great all around experience. Maybe someday I'll leave room for dessert.... But I doubt it.

Cozy & chic American tavern in Union Market area. I had been wanting to visit for a while and the meal did not disappoint. A friend and I went last minute on a warm Friday night & got seats at the bar. We ordered the buttermilk biscuits, crispy Brussels sprouts, crispy Bobo chicken, and steak fries. My favorite was the buttermilk biscuits -- perfectly flaky and incredible with pimento cheese. The chicken was baked to perfection. Excellent service and cool vibe inside. I loved the low lighting and Americana decor. The botanical specialty wine was a lovely NA option, super delicious and refreshing. The vintage plates were a sweet touch, and our waitress kindly gave us some free sherbet

We were walking by and decided to stop in for happy hour. It was our first time and we were impressed. Our server was fantastic. We had lots of questions for him and he had all the answers. It was a beautiful afternoon and sitting outside was wonderful. While leaving, we passed through the interior and it had completely filled up. It was warm and cozy and filled with people. It was lovely inside. We only had a couple of drinks. Their happy hour was great. An interesting array of food and drinks at good prices. I wish we had been hungry to try more of the food. We had a really good time and hope to return again soon.

I finally see what all the hype was about! 5 stars for the biscuits alone. The service was also quick and friendly for our table of 5. We got a good mix of things on the menu and everything was delicious! I didn't love the portraits of the civil war ghosts watching me eat my meal, but I know it's part of their whole Americana vibe.

I was highly recommended St. Anselm by friends and it completely lived up to the hype. Our server was phenomenal and made great recommendations. The space is dimly lit and a really fun speakeasy vibe. All our food came out hot and delicious. The biscuits were the best we had in DC. They were buttery and flakey. The Wedge salad was perfect for two people to share as we each had our own lettuce head. I'm still dreaming of that thick cut bacon. Oysters were cooked in a garlic butter and served warm. Really well done! For the main we split a 32 oz porterhouse steak and cooked exactly to medium rare. We had them pre slice it in the back. Perfect sear and that filet melted in my mouth. The pan mashed potatoes cooked in bacon fat had incredible flavor and I loved the crispy edges. This is not your boring mashed, it's the best. For dessert and everything is made in house, the ice cream cake was so good, loved the hot fudge and Oreos on top. The carrot cake was just okay. It had a lot of nuts and raisins. I'd get the ice cream cake again for sure. Highly recommend this restaurant and is arguably one of the best in DC. We will be back!

I've been living in Union Market for about a year now and walk past St. Anselm all the time, but I'll admit, the menu never really pulled me in since I'm not a huge steak person. I stopped by once a few months ago just for drinks and ended up leaving to eat at a nearby Mexican spot. Fast forward to now, and I finally gave it a real shot (pretty much no other choice ) when my best friend chose it for his birthday dinner. We arrived around 9:15pm, knowing the kitchen closes at 10, so we had to jump right into ordering. I love tequila, but none of the cocktails really spoke to me, so I kept it simple with a tequila + elderflower + soda water which was refreshing and clearly did the job because I ended up having two . The table ordered biscuits as an appetizer, but since I'm gluten-free, I sadly sat that one out. For entrées, we ordered the lamb leg steak, ribeye, and branzino, plus shared sides of sweet potatoes, mushrooms, and creamed spinach. I had never had a lamb leg steak before and was pleasantly surprised - it was so good, especially with the sweet and savory sauce on top. And listen... I am NOT a mushroom person , but somehow those mushrooms ended up being my favorite side of the night. Absolute shocker. For dessert, the group shared an apple crumble, which they loved. Warm fruit desserts aren't my thing anyway and also, gluten-free struggles , so I passed. Beyond the food, the service really stood out. Our server was attentive, friendly, and gave great recommendations. Even when the manager came by to let us know we were approaching kitchen close, it was done kindly and patiently which is always appreciated when you're racing the clock . The space itself is pretty large, the bar area felt lively, and I really loved the rustic, tavern-style vibe. It's cozy without feeling cramped and has great energy. Overall, I'm glad I finally gave St. Anselm a proper chance. Despite my hesitation as a non-steak lover, I really enjoyed the experience and definitely plan to come back, next time for brunch and dinner .

Great business meal experience! Saying business as the atmosphere was lovely and our waitress was very professional. We ordered the bacon appetizer and it all got eaten. Along with that app we got the biscuits and jelly, would order again. The oysters were delicious. For dinner we shared a t bone steak with a few sides. Def enough food for three people. Can't wait to go back!

Came to St.Anselm for brunch. They serve brunch until 3:00. I had heard that there food is a must try. The restaurant feels like a steakhouse with dim lighting. The is a bar and seating right next to their open kitchen. Our server was very pleasant and has great recommendations. You have to try the buttermilk biscuits! Light and flaky with just enough texture on the outside to give it a little crunch. I ordered the chocolate chip pancakes for my meal. I was only expecting two pancakes but the order came and it was three pancakes that were pretty big. I could not finish them. If they have the toasted marshmallow ice cream as an ice cream flavor, make sure you try it! They serve with toasted marshmallows which added a bonus touch to the ice cream.

First, I have to say kudos to the ownership/management for keeping this restaurant as popular as it is. I first dined here back in 2018 or 2019 and decided to give it another try in 2025 and it was completely packed! So packed, in fact, that we had to wait about 15 minutes past our reservation for a table to open up. (Shout out to the host/waiter for giving us a complementary glass of champagne for the extra wait time!) We ordered the biscuits, of course, the giant prawn, the Wagyu steak, and the fried mashed potatoes. The biscuits were good, but I wish they also gave you a sweet topping like honey or some type of jam in addition to the pimento cheese spread. The pimento cheese is really rich so after a few bites, I was over it and wanted something sweet to break up the savoriness. The giant prawn was also good, but I should have ordered the salmon (or yellow tail) collar instead because I do remember that fish collar being very flavorful the first time I dined here. The steak was good and tender, though very small in portion. I would've liked a few more bites. Lastly, the fried potatoes were a miss for me. They were very dry and could've used a gravy or ample butter. I would not order this again. All in all, good, but not great.

Do they have outdoor heaters on the patio?

    What is their corkage fee?

Is this kid friendly for lunch or an early dinner?

Yes! The music can be a little loud but it is accepting of families

No, no happy hour. But the bar opens at 4pm (an hour before dinner service) and stays open between brunch and dinner on weekends (3-5pm).

Nope. But there is ample free parking in and around the Union Market District area.

    Yes
