Love St. Anselm! The ambiance is very relaxed, a good place to go for any occasion. Those biscuits with pimento cheese, the crab deviled eggs, and steaks - I dream about them. Went with a friend on a Friday afternoon; we were immediately seated (we did have reservations). The restaurant did get incredibly busy at one point, and our server apologized for it, but to be honest, I never felt neglected. I also saw that everyone worked as a team to help one another. We started with the Buttermilk Biscuits and Pimento Cheese, Blue Crab Deviled Eggs, and the Beet & Ricotta salad. First time dining at St. Anselm. It was for a birthday celebration. We had a 5pm reservation and were seated right away. I'm glad we did, since it did not take long for the place to fill up. One of the best meals I've had in awhile. We went here for the viral scratch made biscuits w/pimento cheese. They met the hype, maybe the best biscuits and pimento cheese I've ever had and I spent 10 years living in South Carolina. The server was a very well versed older white guy who helped us multiple times with the menu. The thick cut bacon with the pimento cheese on the biscuit was one of the best bites of my life. The steak I had was cooked perfectly, and had great flavor/texture. My girlfriend got their roasted chicken which was good, it came with a house bbq sauce that tasted just like Peter Lugers steak sauce. I stole it immediately for my steak. Definitely ask for it if you go here and get the steak. The restaurant has a great interior atmosphere, it's dark and kind of feels like an old timey vibe. He ordered a bloody Mary and I had their espresso martini with Bailey's and it was pretty good. For starters, we had their blue crab deviled eggs which were hearty but needed a little more seasoning. We did get a side of smoked paprika which did help. For our main, I had the huevo rancheros with a side a hashbrowns. It was tostada with avocado, sunny side egg, cheese, and a salsa. I did add some hot sauce to kick it up and it was really good. The crispy tostada did not get soggy from the salsa which was nice and I see why it's a recommended weekend brunch dish. We asked for some jam and honey, and all of it was divine. We also ordered some fried okra, which was good even though I'm not really a fan of okra. This was crispy and paired well with the sauce provided. For our entrees I opted for the whole dorade fish, which was accompanied with marinated tomatoes and pickled fennel. Seasoned perfectly and all the flavors paired so well together. My dinner date opted for the ribeye, and it literally melted like butter...perfection. I sat at the bar again and the bartender came over. I ordered a German Pilsner and started to look at the menu. I had a good idea what I wanted...but I looked anyway. I really enjoy the wall hangings and vibe of this restaurant. All kinds of different wall hangings, heads from the hunt, various posters and prints. It's the most unique place I have ever eaten. I decided on the NY strip and the fried mashed potatoes. I have never had fried mashed potatoes so I thought why not. The beer is going down fine...I was on the thirsty side. I order another brew and the food arrives. The potatoes are piping hot. The steak looks great. I let everything cool off a bit. The steak had a perfect sear on it. I want to visit the kitchen someday to see how they do that. It's cooked perfect; I asked for medium rare. The potatoes are ok, not quite my thing. Still good though. I finish everything and I'm out. Ambiance was great, dim lighting and candles on the tables. It has a vintage tavern feel in decor and feels very warm and inviting. They had an excellent selection of beers on tap and by bottle. Visited St. Anselm in October with my brother, Jeffery, after he mentioned wanting a great steak dinner. I searched around, found this spot with fantastic reviews, and made a reservation. We chose to sit outside, and even though it was a bit chilly, their heated outdoor area made it comfortable--almost too warm at first, but the staff happily moved us to a better spot. We decided to share the 38 oz Tomahawk steak, and wow--absolutely the right call. Perfectly cooked medium rare, tender, flavorful, and topped with a rich compound butter that melted right into the meat. Truly melt-in-your-mouth quality. Not a single bite made it into a doggy bag. We added a few sides to round out the meal, and the standout was the mushroom dish--can't recall the exact name, but it was excellent. I even snapped a picture of it because it was that good. Service was friendly and attentive throughout. We also enjoyed a couple of adult beverages; their Old Fashioned was solid (though I'll admit, not quite as good as mine!). All in all, a fantastic evening with great food, great service, and a cozy outdoor setup that let us dine al fresco late in the year. Although my ribeye was delicious, the other two people i dined with had their steaks WAY undercooked and couldn't eat the majority of it. Because our server didn't come back and check right away, we didn't even have the opportunity to send the food back so we tried to salvage dinner with dessert.
