Really cool vibe accompanied by high energy staff that works well together. I came here with steak in mind but ended up opting for the fish... not a great idea... way to salty and appreciate the willingness to refire...was kinda basic. Extensive wine list may bring me back but not 100% convinced. Perhaps slow down, stop overdressing the food (salt and salad dressing were a tad excessive) and strive for quality along with speed and we may have a winner
Hadn't realized I've been here before but wow, better than I remember! Nothing's changed get those fingerling potatoes with the ranch for sure. The steak and eggs is amazing! That garlic butter is great and it was the perfect medium rare which can be kind of hit or miss at places. The Dutch baby was pretty good but a skip in my opinion, get the buttermilk biscuits instead.
Wow x3 If you love steak, gourmet cocktail, comfort food with a fine dining twist - this is the place. This place definitely lives up to its name! Place: it has more of a casual feeling with some ambience. Feels comfortable with wooden furnitures. Service: I believe we had Micah who was just exceptional- very personable and gave us the perfect recommendations. Fast and prompt service. Food: every dish we ordered was amazing. Cobb salad was really great- but the bacon on top was theee best bacon I've ever had. I've been content with just that order. Amazing oysters- fresh and condiments went very well. Now steak was Cooked to perfection and seasoned well. Now-- I am not a "bread lover" but Micah said the place was known for its biscuit (they charge for it and I would too if it's this good). Told him about my lukewarm love for the bread and he said "I would order it for educational purposes". I like education , especially this kind of education so I did- and yes, it is true. It was theee highlight of the night. Oh it's special. Crispy- and buttery almost like half croissant and half biscuit. The jam and pimemto cheese just out of this world. We actually came home and researched the recipe of "wanna be- st. Anselm biscuit" Definitely one of the best educational experience I've had. Price: I thought it was reasonable. Great portion of food that's why. St. Anselm - thank you and we shall make some excuse to come back to DC to come here again.
First. Get a reservation. This place was packed and rightfully so! It was delicious! We had the Buttermilk Biscuits, Butcher Steak, and Steelhead Trout. All the food was seasoned correctly and served hot. They brought complimentary wine for our anniversary! So awesome! When in the area, I would highly recommend.
I still find myself craving this place! It came highly recommended on TikTok, and it definitely lived up to the hype. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take many photos because my phone was dying, but the hostess was incredibly kind and offered to charge my phone for me in their space. That small gesture made the experience even better. Everything we ordered was absolutely delicious. The biscuits were perfectly done--not dry at all, but buttery, soft, and even better with the pimento cheese spread. The combination was amazing! My steak was tender, juicy, and cooked to perfection, while the broccoli had the perfect crisp texture that added a nice balance to the meal. The restaurant itself has a beautiful rustic yet modern atmosphere. The dim lighting creates a cozy feel, with most of the brightness coming from the natural sunlight that fills the space. Between the incredible food, welcoming service, and inviting ambiance, this spot is definitely one I would return to again.
Loved the biscuits and the potatoes those are a must try. Servers and bartenders are so nice. They also have a really good espresso martini. We were sat in a unique booth that almost made the dining experience feel private which was lovely.
Came last on a Friday, they were able to seat us with no problem. Got the chicken, grilled okra and pan fried mashed potatoes. I wasn't really impressed with the new recipe for the Bobo chicken however the grilled okra and mashed potatoes didn't disappoint. Our waiter also let us try a Madeira to go with the peach crumble. It was a perfect compliment. I love this place, not just for the food but the great customer service each and everytime
Finally got to check out St. Anselm and it did not disappoint! It's a cool vibe for dinner with friends or even a date night. The staff are super attentive to everything going on. They made sure to keep our table clean and gave us new silverware and plates before or entrees arrived. Any food that we did not finish was boxed up and put into bags for us. The manager was actively walking around the restaurant, making sure that every guest were enjoying their dinner. The food was good all around but there are some dishes that outshine the rest. The ribeye and New York strip were very good. The butchers steak I got for my son and he didn't really like it, it was lacking flavor. If you do anything when you go, please make sure to get the biscuits. Hands down THE BEST BISCUITS I've ever had lol. They are the most flaky and buttery biscuits, you can count each layer that these have. Pro tip is to ask for butter and the house made jam. The pimento cheese is good with them but it becomes a little too decadent. Overall I'm happy we made the decision to come here, we will be back soon.
Absolutely loved our meal here. Everything was a knockout. I ordered the chicken and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. You'd assume there's not many ways you can innovate fried chicken but there's was amazing! Other highlights of our meal were the biscuits, the broccoli, the watermelon salad, and the ribeye steak. The service was great and we loved the dark, moody cabin-inspired ambience as well.
Have you ever had a server make your whole night? Abby was that person and more! Her thoughtful suggestions, jokes, and kindness put my birthday celebration over the top! What's more- with just a couple of questions, she was able to pick a perfect wine pairing for me. In addition to the exceptional service, there was stellar food to enjoy ! Everything we ate from the famed biscuits to the deviled eggs to the steaks impressed. I found myself wishing I lived closer so I could get those biscuits on my way home everyday! We sat in a cute curtained booth that felt luxe and comfortable. For the price, St. Anselm is one heck of a restaurant. Glad I got to celebrate there.
For what it is: *Food is good *Service is also good, but my aunts had to educate our waiter on what the term "dirty rocks" meant when it comes to a martini, but he gave us good food suggestions. *Atmosphere screams date night I had the lamb which I have had very few times. I only order it when I think the restaurant can live up to its reviews. I am happy with my selection and was very tasty. I shared small bites with the family and they liked it to. My aunt ordered the Bobo Chicken, THAT is something that should be ordered if you come. What a bite! Tried some steak and really didn't wow me like the chicken, good though. Overall 4-5, I had a very good meal elsewhere earlier in the week so this didn't quite do it for me, but would still recommend coming.
we were in and out in one hour thanks to how delicious this was. took a recommendation from a friend and got the garlic butter steak and salmon collar. both were great. the salmon collar is such value for the money, incredibly tender. the grilled carrots were sweet and in a nutty + balsamic sauce. the tartare was not as good as i thought it would be though vibes were also good -- not super stuck up but clearly had the choreography down.
We ordered the biscuits, oysters, pan fried mashed potatoes, and butcher's steak with a half bottle of their chateau de fleurie. Everything was delicious and I would order it again. We ordered the steak medium rare and it came closer to rare. Restaurant was busy at 7:30pm on a thursday. I recommend making a reservation. It was a bit loud. Service was amazing and so sweet!

Came here after a night around Union Market and our party was SO please with the experience. I referred to yelp for menu suggestions so we got the buttermilk biscuits and they were as good as they look. They are fluffy and delicious and the pimento cheese is to die for. The rest of our menu items were just as good. Everyone was so happy with their orders. We went for a birthday and they kindly brought out a large slice of cheesecake that we were all able to enjoy together. The location itself was also very fun. Lots of fun decorations to spot during your meal. And at the end of the, they give you a little postcard and they gave our party a few extras for us to split up! Would HIGHLY recommend. read more
On our last night in town before flying back home to sunny Southern California, your favorite Yelp Correspondent and his smoking hot wifey chose St. Anselm for our capstone meal of our four day, three night stay in WDC. But based on the slow, glacially paced service and overpriced foods served strictly a la carte, the St. Anselm dining experience left us wishing we were (St.) Elsewhere! We started with the hallmark, oft-praised biscuits, which were suitably flaky and redolent of their buttermilk essence...but when paired with the pimento cheese, you wind up with savory on top of dry, which produces an overly dryer than the Mojave mouthful. Call us unsophisticated rubes, but we both thought the biscuits would've paired better with a sweeter counterpart such as rasberry jam or apple butter. My wife's and my entrees gave us a jarring lesson in portion sizes. We expected her $24 salmon collar to be a petite-sized cut of fresh Atlantic salmon; similarly, we'd estimated my $37 Butcher's Steak to be a somewhat sizable cut of steak. Imagine our stupefaction to find her salmon easily dwarfed my six-bite section of steak!! For a side, we shared the garlic mashed potatoes, which are then pan-fried in bacon grease. Unctuous and extremely filling! Pro Tip- Don't waste your time ordering soda from St. Anselm, because they are quite penurious in how they apportion it- My Diet Coke was brought to me in a tiny 6oz bottle, literally a HALF CAN, for which I was charged a stiff $4. Our server Christian was nice enough, but candidly we were disappointed that it took 25 mins for our drink orders and another 50 minutes for our entrees to arrive. WED night dinner service, even at a buzzy, trendy restaurant such as St. Anselm shouldn't take two hours. read more

We visited from AZ for the 2025 Biannual Scottish Rite conference. We came, and the food is delicious, the Prime T-Bone is cooked to perfection, the buttermilk biscuits, and Mash potatoes are a must. Biscuits are A MUST- easily the best biscuits i've had in my life (and i've dined in SC which supposedly have great biscuits). Butchers steak- medium rare. This was cooked perfectly with wonderful flavor. Date reports it's one of the best of his life. Salmon Collar. I wasn't expecting to be blown away by this one but I was. Again, cooked perfectly with so much flavors. For me it was. a perfect portion size, didn't leave me feeling overly stuffed or hungry. The mashed potatoes also have wonderful flavor and were very smooth! I'd definitely come back and try other dishes. Everything looks delish. Came here for an early dinner and was fortunate enough to get a seat w/ no issue. The decor is an effective mix of nostalgic industrial (yes, perhaps I invented this - fight me) with wilderness taxidermy. Agave - I guess this is supposed to be their take on a margarita. It was filled to the brim with ice, so i suppose I got just a few ounces of an actual drink. In today's climate, I expect every drop of my liquor. Fairly tasty, nothing special. Old Fashioned - now This is how you construct sn Old Fashioned. Flavorful and boozy. Steak w/ creamed spinach - the steak was perfection. Absolutely delectable. Tender and juicy. Grrrreeeattttt food and atmosphere! When you walk in, it has a busy and lively feeling. The service is great. We got the rib eye, lamb, broccoli, pan fried mashed potatoes and the biscuits. Their biscuits are filling, but a must. They are extremely soft and served with a cheese spread. I'm biased, but the ribeye is the bomb! Wow! The best meal I've had in a long time in this area, the lamb leg steak with the not chimichurri sauce but very similar to it was amazing, so flavorful def a must have. Everything had so much depth in regard to the taste, even the roasted sweet potato which is a basic dish tasted elevated. We stumbled upon St. Anslem following a show at the Docks and then an hour of a silent disco. Definitely not a lot of choices for vegetarians, but we did enjoy the mushrooms and the mashed potato pancake. Drinks were solid and it was nice to sit outside on a balmy evening! Held a business dinner here during a weeknight. While the space was popping with people, the servers kindly sat us in a booth with some privacy. The space is moody and perfect for intimate conversations or, if you prefer, more boisterous ones at the bar! Food was good. Highly recommend the biscuits. Came here for brunch with a few friends and we enjoyed our food very much. We ordered the buttermilk biscuits to start and a couple of lattes and coffees. The biscuits are super fluffy and delicious, served with a pimento cheese spread on the side. We also asked for butter and jam on the side for those who wanted something sweet for their biscuits. For entree, I ordered the French toast with blueberries, oat crumble and whipped cream! Definitely went for the sweet side, but it was so good and I'm so glad I got my dish. It hit the spot and was delicious! I'll admit our server missed a few things during service but she was very kind and made it up to us by acknowledging her misses and bringing by a few small cake pops for our table. Who has been gatekeeping this restaurant? I have passed it several times and never knew it was such a gem. I've been here a few times before but last night was one of my all time favorite experiences! We were seated in a booth, and our server was so detail oriented and attentive. We started out with the biscuits which were rich, delicious and came with the creamy cheese spread. We then tried half a dozen grilled oysters, which had the most savory garlic butter on top. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. The two of us also shared a 32 ounce steak and the kitchen was kind enough to cut it up for us so that we could share it better. It basically melted in my mouth - that's how good it was. The cocktails were also good! We had the Floral Julep and Poncha cocktail. Both were refreshing and I liked the egg white foam on the cocktail. Decor is interesting but I love that they use vintage plates for the steak. It was a nice detail! read more

Came in on a busy weeknight with a coworker for dinner. Started at the bar, where the bartender was very helpful and did a great job describing the menu, as well as his wine list. They had various wines available by-the-glass which came in either a bottle or were on tap, which I found interested. After a couple of drinks at the bar we moved to our table. Service at the table was just as helpful. The menu is loaded with many options for vegans, pescatarians, and beefeaters alike! I opted for their Bobo Chicken, which was a nice Peruvian style chicken and it came with an amazing green sauce. The chicken was perfectly charred and tender - lots of great flavor there! I started with their Baby Iceberg salad which came with a slice of their thick, smokey Heritage Bacon. The Bleu Cheese and chopped egg on the salad was great and the combo if it with the bacon and lettuce in each bite was incredible! All of the side dishes looked great, the one I chose was their pan fried mashed potatoes - what a great concept! The slight crust was excellent and dipping it in the green sauce that came with the chicken. Save room for dessert... They have an amazing dessert list! I opted for their homemade pear sorbet and that was outstanding! The ice cream cake was very tempting, but the sorbet was a lighter, healthier option and I was glad I got it. The food was good and as a hunter myself,I really liked the Outdoorsman decor. The service was decent. I had to wait over 10 minutes for the check however the server was knowledgeable about the menu and the background of the restaurant. Wife and had dinner before heading to a concert and both had the butcher steak, acorn squash, and brócoli. We also ordered the biscuits and deviled blue crab eggs (4 pieces). Never had butcher steak before and this was good I ordered mine med-rare and it was cooked perfectly. The biscuits were good wo the pimento cheese and while I tried the cheese and it was ok I didn't need it. My first time eating pimento cheese and tbh not knowing what exactly it is biased my taste buds. The eggs we really good. I could have had another serving. Lastly the bearskin is awesome. Pretty great spot! The neighborhood is a lively area. The ambiance is super rustic, basement vibes as soon as you walk in. Taxidermy, 70s decor, low lighting, and a great view of the cooks in the kitchen. Service was awesome -- super attentive staff and very polite. The pimento cheese biscuits were flaky and buttery and super interesting starter. The rest of the food was awesome -- everything came out fresh and hot. My group and I ordered steak and eggs, a Bodega breakfast sandwich, and chocolate chip pancakes. Portions were huge and filling! Definitely would come back for dinner. read more

No, no happy hour. But the bar opens at 4pm (an hour before dinner service) and stays open between brunch and dinner on weekends (3-5pm).
