When first impressions matter. What can I say when first impressions matter. I had an opportunity to expose new friends and colleagues to OCEAN PRIME DC. I was attending a conference in DC when about 14 people wanted to have a great dinner. As they were struggling to figure a place to go, I of course suggested, Ocean Prime. I took a chance to call Tim but was not sure with such a short notice request if they could accommodate. They absolutely did in space. Alexander quickly heard my request and scrolling into action. Made sure that my group was well. Taken care of the first impression was truly magnificent... But I would expect nothing less from the absolute best. A highlight of was seeing Tiana, whose Infectious smile and memory that amazes even the most astute person in action. She remembered everyone's name at our table, despite not being our official serve. It is this type of hospitality that keeps Ocean Prime head and shoulders above other fine dining establishment in DC.
The establishment was downtown DC and the customer service and staff is amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant if you like a delicious food, great atmosphere, and reliable service this is the restaurant for you. The picture don't do justice for the experience and food. Went for a Birthday celebration food was well seasoned.
Ocean Prime: How Tiana Turned a High‑End Dinner Into a Full‑Blown Culinary Adventure Takeaway: The food was outstanding. The private room was beautiful. But Tiana? She elevated the entire night like she had a PhD in hospitality and a minor in mind‑reading. The 73rd Birthday Mission We needed the perfect steakhouse for a 73rd birthday celebration -- something upscale, polished, and worthy of a family‑and‑friends get‑together. Ocean Prime was the unanimous choice. Ten of us, private dining room, big night ahead. My wife and I pulled up to valet at the same time as another couple. The valet attendant greeted us like he'd been waiting all day just for us. He even parked our cars together right in front -- a small touch, but it set the tone. We walked inside, talked to the hostess, and then...the night changed. Enter Tiana -- The Greatest Waitress I've Ever Had A few minutes later, a woman approached with the biggest, warmest, most welcoming smile I've ever seen in a restaurant. She introduced herself: "Hi, I'm Tiana. I'll be taking care of you tonight." Not serving us.Not waiting on us.Taking care of us. That's when I knew we were in good hands. She walked the four of us to the private dining room, gave us time to settle, then introduced the wine and drink menu. And then she did something I've never seen done at a table of ten: She asked for everyone's names. All ten. And remembered them. All night. Not once did she slip.Not once did she say "sir" or "ma'am."She addressed every person by name like she'd known us for years. That alone elevated the experience -- but she wasn't done. The Drinks: A Masterclass in Descriptions Before taking drink orders, she told us: "If there's something you want that's not on the menu, I'll check with the Chef." Who does that?Tiana does. She recommended the Berries & Bubbles to a few of us and described the Smoked Old Fashioned like she was narrating a food documentary. I went with my classic: a White Russian . Drinks arrived. Everyone was happy. The Food: Ocean Prime Doing What Ocean Prime Does Orders included: Grilled Oysters Lobster Linguine Creamed Spinach Deviled Eggs Rack of Lamb Parmesan Truffle Fries New York Strip Ribeye with Oscar Style Dynamite Roll Kid's Crabcake Brussels Sprouts Parmesan Broccolini Loaded Baked Potatoes Bread Service Everything was beautifully plated and tasted outstanding.The Parmesan Truffle Fries?Some of the best any of us had ever had. One steak came out well‑done instead of medium -- corrected immediately, no hesitation. I sampled the sides around the table. Every single one was a hit. I asked the group how their meals were -- nothing but smiles and nods. Dessert: Tiana's Final Touch When dessert time hit, Tiana went into full celebration mode. She surprised the birthday guest with two desserts: Ten‑Layer Carrot Cake Warm Butter Cake with Ice Cream And "Happy Birthday" written on the plate He lit up like a kid. I ordered the Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie -- I enjoyed it, but everyone else at the table loved it. The Carrot Cake was good, but the Butter Cake?Outstanding. Worth the hype. Final Verdict Ocean Prime already delivers a high‑end dining experience -- but Tiana transformed it into an unforgettable culinary adventure. Her professionalism, warmth, attention to detail, and ability to remember ten names without missing a beat made the night feel personal, special, and elevated. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit. And yes -- I will be requesting Tiana again.
Came in for a celebration, I really appreciated the card on the table and the fresh roses! Super cute! Our waiter was amazing, even brought me an extra scoop of ice cream. Overall our dinner was great. The lobster pasta was so good, the steak (NY Strip) lacked a bit of seasoning and it wasn't hot. I would suggest a finishing salt or perhaps an add on like the garlic butter or just something to take it up a notch. Other than that we had a great time, and we'll definitely be back especially for the lobster linguine!
Another DC staple restaurant. Despite being open for a while I finally went. We opted for the early price-fix menu. I was not disappointed. The server suggested everything. He said everything was great and everything I had was great. From the caesaer salad, to the salmon, to the warm butter cake. Go to be seen, eat well, and have a great time!
We need to address the elephant in the room...how did I not know how FABULOUS Ocean Prime is?! I entered the venue with a bustling bar and intimate restaurant. I started at the bar while awaiting the rest of my party. I enjoyed a glass of brut rose and complimentary popcorn. The popcorn is nothing short of amazing! The bar staff couldn't be friendlier and accommodating. When transitioning to dinner, I left to an intimate environment where our server was attentive and humorous. I ordered the Lobster Linguine, perfectly seasoned and flavorful. Goodness! I then indulged in an espresso martini which rounded out the perfect dinner. I cannot wait to return.
Ocean Prime is a fine dining chain that I can count on no matter the location. I've been in several cities but mostly frequent Chicago because that's where I live. This DC location is top notch! Our server was excellent and very attentive and even recommended an alternative ride share app to use. T addictive truffle popcorn was amazing as usual and entrees were delicious and well plated. It was my friend's birthday so she got a dessert on the house, also delicious. This was our best meal of trip, thanks for being elegant and consistent!
Saturday dinner here. I had noticed this place while leaving a dinner a couple weeks ago and put it on the list. I made a reservation for 8:30 and we showed up right on the dot. We were sat shortly after in a large booth which I highly prefer over the half chair half booth seating. We started with the French onion soup and Caesar salad. The soup was really good - the broth wasn't sweet but dark and flavorful. The Caesar was the standard issue. After reminding our waiter 3 times we finally got a bread basket which came with a small bread loaf, thin flat breadsticks with everything seasoning, and small pretzel sticks that were halved. The butter was also a nice touch - whipped butter. Seeing as it was my birthday dinner - I decided to splurge and ordered the special Japanese A5 Wagyu steak - 6oz. The steak melted upon touching the mouth. Highly recommended. Wow. We also added a twice baked potato, and chophouse corn as sides. I liked these as well - the potato was massive. For dessert I ordered the 10 story carrot cake and a cup of coffee. The cake was intense and I liked it a lot. The coffee was botched and the grounds seeped into the coffee and the coffee tasted horrible. Overall - very good. 4/5
Came for a birthday dinner and had a wonderful dining experience! Tried the Berries & Bubbles drink that's handshaken side table. It was sweet and light. Also ordered the Ocean role which was really fresh and good. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu which was nice since it was our first time dining there. She even brought us a free glass of champagne when the cook of the steak wasn't right. The steak was fixed within minutes and we enjoyed our meal, ending with the warm butter cake.
I had high expectations for Ocean Prime in Washington, DC, but unfortunately the experience did not live up to the reputation or the high prices. Despite having a reservation, we were still made to wait, which was not a great start to the evening. One detail that also stood out was that bread was never brought to our table before the meal, even though we noticed other tables were served bread. The wait for the main course was also much longer than expected. When the food finally arrived, it was disappointing across the board. The sea bass was only half cooked, the Brussels sprouts were burned, and the lobster spaghetti lacked flavor entirely. At that point, we decided not to even bother trying dessert. Service overall was average, nothing particularly attentive or memorable. The dining room is elegant and well decorated, with a stylish atmosphere, though it is a bit dark. Unfortunately, between the loud conversations, background music, and poor acoustics, the space felt much noisier than enjoyable. Given the high prices, the overall experience simply did not justify the cost. With so many excellent dining options in Washington, DC, this is not a place I would recommend.
Love Ocean Prime the more and more that I come. I almost always sit at the bar and all of the bartenders are great. Super attentive. Constantly moving finished plates away. Keeping your glass filled. And really friendly. It's almost always the same guys there as well and they remember faces. I tried a lot of food from their lounge menu during this visit and everything was delicious. My favorites included the, prime beef sliders, lamb lollipops, crispy fish tacos and the calamari. I also tried the mumbo shrimp and the ocean roll and I thought they were just ok. Probably wouldn't order again. Stop into Ocean Prime for lunch or happy hour. It's beautiful and cozy inside. And parking isn't too bad as well.
Stopped in for Winter Restaurant Week 2026 and was not disappointed....the food was great, service was top tier and Ocean Prime is perfect for girls night, date night, or solo outing. I'll be back for their early dinner menu during the week!!!
While in DC we had dinner twice as the service and food were delicious. First dinner we stuck to seafood tried scallops as appetizer able to order a half order. Spicy tuna sushi and fish dinner. Great privacy in booth very good vibes and ambience

It was far too beautiful of a day to stay indoors. I knew happy hour at Ocean Prime in downtown DC was the perfect way to enjoy it. I had an absolutely wonderful experience as Shakira and JP took great care of us at the bar. And the cocktails, food, and dessert were ALL delish, as usual! Oh and I had one of the best Manhattans... Good company, great service, and yummylicious indulgences. Beautiful Aesthetic and Great Highlights, but Service and Consistency Missed the Mark Ocean Prime offers a stunning, upscale atmosphere with a gorgeous aesthetic that makes for a very pleasing night out. Unfortunately, our overall experience didn't quite live up to the beauty of the restaurant, largely due to subpar service and some inconsistent dishes. The Service: This is where the experience really fell short. While the support staff did a great job keeping our water glasses filled, our actual server was largely inattentive. Getting our initial orders in was fine, but once the plates hit the table, our server vanished--never coming back to check on us or ask if we needed anything until we were completely finished. We actually had to flag down other servers just to get basic things like salt and pepper. It's especially disappointing given the price point and expectations here. At restaurants of this caliber, I usually see managers checking on guest's table, throughout the night but we didn't see anyone. To top it off, the tip scale starts at 20%, which is hard to swallow when the service provided was so completely lacking in attentiveness. The Food (Hits and Misses): Teriyaki Salmon: This was one of the highlights of the night. Cooked to a proper medium, the salmon was fresh and delicious, paired with a jasmine rice sauce that was flavorful without being overly salty. Scallops & Risotto: The scallops themselves were cooked well, but the pairing with the risotto didn't work. The flavors just clashed and didn't complement each other well, leaving us disappointed with that dish. Mac & Cheese & Brussels Sprouts: Both were underwhelming. The mac & cheese lacked depth and flavor, and adding salt and pepper didn't do much to rescue it. The Brussels sprouts needed a lot more attention some weren't fully charred, leaving them tough and lacking in flavor. Ocean Prime has a wonderful vibe and a few standout items like the salmon, but between the lackluster service and several misfired dishes, it's hard to give it a higher rating. With a bit more attention to hospitality and kitchen consistency, it could easily be a top-tier D.C. spot. read more

I absolutely love this restaurant! I have only been a few times for happy hour, but every time has been great. The interior is beautiful. The bartenders and staff are friendly. The cocktails are delicious. And the food is tasty! Parking is not that great in the area (as expected in the city) but there is a parking garage close by. I have enjoyed everything I have ordered but the shellfish Cobb salad and black orchid cocktail is a must! I definitely plan to return! read more

Went to Ocean prime as a vegetarian and was impressed by their quinoa option which was one of the three vegetarian options they had so I'll stop. The drinks were great, the vibe is busy and loud, the food is good, the service is acceptable and the desserts are definitely the best. read more
Came here late on a Saturday night with no reservation after watching a Drunk Shakespeare show and the classy ambience, service, and vibes were amazing. This is a perfect late night dinner date spot. The oysters (particularly the West Coast variety) were incredible. We also had martinis and the Parmesan truffle fries which were delicious.. maybe the best fries I've had in the area, cooked and seasoned to perfection. Our waitress was very accommodating when we asked for extra olives and placed orders for more food. I can't wait to go back! read more
Group of 5 celebrating professional achievement. Service by Mila was awesome; caring, professional and sweet. Had a Seafood Tower of; Oysters (delicious Rose @ Garnet), Shrimps, Crab Legs, and Lobster. Then we had spectacular Raviolis, Sea Bass, and Filet Mignon. However the Strip Steak was bad; dry, tasteless, seemed old. Took a few bites and has gastric consequences that night. They did not charged for it though. Nicely prepared Martinis and two nice bottles of Pouilly-Fuissé. Plus we appreciate very much the details for my friend's celebration. Even the GM came by. Thanks to a great team. read more
Anni 2025 Hubby and I visited on March 1st, 2025!! I was so excited to finally try this place. I've only heard great things about this establishment, and it was all accurate!! This place is beautiful! Easy to locate and eye catching! Once seated, we were assisted by Theresa who was magnificent. She provided great customer service. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, answered all of our questions, and made great recommendations. Collectively, we ordered the following. Teriyaki Salmon: Very good!! Cooked perfectly. Early Dining Menu: Caesar Salad, 8oz Filet - Prepared Perfecto!! Well plated, seasoned, and tender. Hot Toddy: So comforting. Crème Brulèe: A Hit!! Sorbet (Lemon): Flavorful Hubby and I enjoyed this experience, and look forward to returning asap !! read more
Heard a lot of great things about this place so I decided to check it out for lunch! Service was ok-- everyone was super friendly but I think they gave us wrong menus? At least I didn't get the lunch menu... which was sort of strange. Ambiance is fantastic-- it's a super pretty restaurant! Noise levels were a bit high though for lunch. - Dynamite roll: 10/10 (honestly some of the best rolls I've had in DC! Loved the crispy spicy mayo crab bites on top. The roll itself was good too.) Overall, I definitely want to be back to try their other dishes! read more

Had a wonderful experience. I booked the reservation day of, including special accommodations since it was my girlfriend's birthday. A special birthday menu/sheet was on the table upon our arrival to our seats. Our waiter, Rafael, 5-star hospitality service. He gave us a thorough overview of the menu and the daily specials. Ocean Prime is easily one of my all-time favorite restaurants an absolute 10 out of 10 every single time. I am in love with the Teriyaki Salmon. It's my go-to every time I visit--perfectly glazed, tender, and full of rich, balanced flavor. It's so good it almost feels like a little secret I don't want to share. Everything I've tried--from the starters to the sides to the cocktails--has been fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Came here before watching Anjelah Johnson's comedic tour at the Warner Theatre (which is a few minutes away walking distance). Decided to sit at the bar since it was Party of 1. Ambience is very nice. Service was great and professional. Food was to die for. Lamb lollipops were my fave. Nicely seasoned. Medium rare. Melt in your mouth. Charred to perfection. I also enjoyed the Parmesan popcorn. Deviled eggs, on the other hand, were a little underwhelming though. Braised beef ribs & scallops (Surf n Turf) were pretty decent. I usually don't order dessert but the crème brulee was amazing! Practically inhaled it. Highly recommend. Looking forward to going to their other locations as well. read more

We chose Ocean Prime to host our small wedding celebration and we are so happy we did. My husband and I got married last weekend in a small ceremony with just our family. We wanted to have an intimate dinner after and ocean prime exceeded our expectations. We had a group of 15 and reserved a private dining space. Our wedding finished up a little early and most of our party arrived at the restaurant 35 minutes before our reservation but they still sat everyone immediately and began drink orders. When we arrived all our guests were seated and happy. We were immediately greeted with congratulations from staff and the event coordinator, Ebony, greeted and informed us they left gift bags for us. We did a four course menu with appetizers, starters, entrees, and dessert plus extra sides for the whole table. They had champagne waiting in the room as we requested and the dinner was off to a great start. Our server, Gustavo was great. He was tentative and made sure to bring the chef in to speak to one our of our guests with an allergy. The food was AMAZING. We had crab cakes, fried calamari, and goat cheese ravioli as table appetizers- all were so delicious. For starters, everyone had a choice of caesar salad or lobster bisque and for dinner everyone chose from a roasted chicken dish, 16oz ribeye, and scallop parmesan risotto. We also added the truffle mac and cheese and truffle fries as extra sides. We were all amazed at how good every dish was. Then for dessert, everyone chose from a chocolate peanut butter pie or warm butter cake with ice cream- again each delectable! Our guests were literally raving about the food and service. We had such a lovely evening and it was the perfect wedding dinner. We were there for over 2.5 hours and never felt rushed and enjoyed every second of our dinner. As mentioned above, they gave my husband and I two gift bags which included champagne, cookies, and candles. Truly so thoughtful! The service was excellent! I visited during the holidays for happy hour, and the festive atmosphere was fantastic. Every dish was delicious, but my favorites were definitely the calamari, lamb, and beef sliders. The tequila cocktail was also a delightful treat! Highly recommend. I would visit again! read more
Ocean Prime offers a sumptuous dining experience wrapped in a cocoon of understated elegance. The ambiance strikes that elusive balance between intimate and inviting--low lighting creates a sense of warmth without rendering the menu a mystery to one's eyesight. It's a setting is designed to make you linger, and linger we did. The Chilean Sea Bass was the star of the evening for me: exquisitely tender, delicately buttery, and served in a generous portion that insisted I skip enjoying in the warm butter cake at our table. My dining companion indulged in an entree of Wagyu Beef, luxuriously paired with lobster and crab. The dish was everything one hopes for--succulent, rich, and flawlessly executed. Service, however, was where the evening lost a bit of its shimmer. While our waiter was pleasant enough, he proved inattentive, disappearing for long stretches after taking our order. The lack of follow-up and the delay in settling our check were out of step with the otherwise polished experience. Still, Ocean Prime's culinary finesse and inviting ambiance more than warrant a return visit from me. The service misstep cost it a perfect score. So I give it four out of five stars. read more

Ocean prime is an upscale steakhouse. It provides a fine dining experience from the food to decor to service but it is well worth the splurge. I tried the following: repasado paper plane (5/5; delicious. Very well balanced, tasty and strong) and 16 oz ribeye with bearnaise sauce (5/5; perfectly cooked and seasoned. The bearnaise sauce paired perfectly. I wish it came with some kind of side considering it cost $70 but it is a four $$$$ restaurant). Overall, my steak and drink were amazing and I would definitely come back if I was craving a delicious steak in DC. read more

We decided to give Ocean Prime a try for my friend's birthday. We went to make reservations and they have a disclaimer that anyone who doesn't show in your party, will incur a $25 charge. With that being said, you do have to have a card on file to book. When we first entered into the restaurant, it looked very upscale with nice lighting and friendly staff. Our waiter was friendly, attentive, and answered all our questions regarding the menu. For appetizers, we went with the deviled eggs which wasn't the most popular amongst the table. We'd give it a 3/5. The table automatically came with bread and the truffle popcorn, which was pleasantly tasty. For my main dish, I ordered the ribeye medium Oscar style and my steak was cooked medium well in my opinion. Being that it was still good I decided to keep it and eat it anyways. For my side dish I ordered the cream spinach, which was also really good. I did try my friend's mac & cheese which I liked and lastly, I ordered a creamy espresso martini, which wasn't what I expected, but it wasn't bad. Overall, the atmosphere and experience is very nice. It's a plus that you can get great pictures in the ladies restroom lol read more

The food here was amazing. I really enjoyed the king crab legs. I got them warm and they came with a butter dipping sauce. The ribeye was flavorful and the mac and cheese was good. The sushi here was surprisingly good as well. I liked both the ocean roll and the dynamite roll, but my favorite was the dynamite roll. I liked how it came with extra fried shrimp on top. They also made a good Manhattan cocktail. The service was great and I liked the dark, elegant ambiance. read more
Fine Dine Me Always Please! Ocean Prime will always be a favorite in my book of the many fine dining experiences in DC. In 2000 while living in Ohio, I dined at The Ocean Club and the rest is history. This business will always be a favorite of mine. While I don't always check in and post pics, last night while with a "foodie" I was able to take pictures without judgement. Ambiance is upscale, service is great! Let's get into it! Crab Cake - Delicious Perfect! Chilled Crab Cocktail - Perfect Shrimp Cocktail- Perfect 10 oz Filet with Black Truffle Butter- Perfect Bacon Creamed Spinach- Perfect Jalapeño Au Gratin- Perfect Sautéed Mushrooms-Perfect Butter cake - Perfect Sorbet and Vanilla- Perfect Highly recommend. I had yet another phenomenal dining experience at Ocean Prime for my two-year anniversary--this time, hosted by Demetrius, who provided top notch service. Again, our table was decorated beautifully, with personalized touches to celebrate our special occasion. Birthday Recap ... Thank you @oceanprimedc for making my mom's birthday special. The wait staff was phenomenal and the food was amazing. For background, Ocean Prime accommodated my last minute reservation for a large party size. The event's coordinator offered one of the party rooms without a deposit or credit card. They were able to modify food options for my nephew who has food allergies. And, Ms. Tiana was the absolute best! She took the time to learn everyone's name for a more personable dining experience. I highly recommend Ocean Prime for a large party or to celebrate a special occasion. read more
