This bar has been such a standout ever since it opened! I still remember their ginormous cocktail menu, but am still very happy with their offerings now. My go-to has been the Venezolana, which has a base of a dark rum and a combination of tropical fruit. Don't be fooled, however, this is not a fruity drink! I love the balance and it's always fun to see the fancy ice with the bar's name in the middle. Don't sleep on their snacks! My fav have been their chorizo empanadas. The black bean dip is also tasty. Aside from what I consume, I ALWAYS leave feeling good about the service. Their bartenders are skilled and aren't overbearing. I've missed these so much since leaving CA) Some of my favorite things about Serenata was, - the customer service was amazing. The bartenders and the owner were so friendly. I definitely want to make this my staple to go and grab drinks. - they offer a house mezcal shot that they pour into your mouth for just $5... you can't beat that and it's fun and tasty - the chilaquiles was good for bar food. We went to try some seasonal coquito. The dark chocolate one is soooo good. The only thing was we asked for the tasting "tree" and were told by the bartender they weren't doing them, but saw them give a customer one of the trees 30min later, so idk what happened there but I would have liked to try all 3 flavors. We waited for a really long time to order, searched for a table to sit with our buzzy thing that tells you when your drink is ready, and then waited for our drinks. We had about an hour before our dinner reservation, and we needed pretty much that whole hour to get and drink one round. I know they were swamped, but the service wasn't very friendly. Finally made it to Serenata and certainly wasn't disappointed. The cocktails are delicious, the snacks are tasty, and the bar seating and aesthetic makes you feel like the night is young and anything is possible. For snacks we ordered the chicken empanadas and the pandebonos. They were both good, but the chicken empanada was amazing. They have interesting rules that could affect your visit - you must be seated in order to sip on any alcohol. So, if you don't have a seat, you can't drink drinks with alcohol. This past Sunday, I was chilling with one of my girlfriends grabbing coffee around 1pm and catching up, and we kept hearing this great music come from the other side of the sidewalk. We saw this lovely person jamming to the music and just giving off great vibes, so we had to check it out! Turns out this wonderful person works for Serenata and was hanging outside selling their to-go alcoholic beverages so we had to try it! I've been doing the at home cocktail kits from Serenata for the past two months and can't believe I have written any reviews yet. First of all support this Afro/Latina owned business housed in La Cosecha in NE DC. The kit is such a bargain for $65 bucks (excluding tip) for three pairs cocktails and snacks for a great date night. The bartender AJ is a great teacher and always up To teach you more about what you are drinking. It's even more special when liquor brand ambassadors attend and you can learn more about certain types of liquor. I've attended the at home cocktail kit for rum, elderflower liquer, whiskey, cachaça, and the list goes on and on. I'm planning on continuing to attend classes I'm interested in and can't wait to go back to Cosecha to try more of the drinks when the pandemic passes. read more

The ambiance of the bar is nice and the drinks look cute, but the service is eh. The bartenders are rude, they just want to give you your drink and go. While serving food I expected some type of dining experience or care for the customer. The bartenders never check back on you unless you wave them down. The drinks are strong, but not a well balanced cocktail. The food is disgusting to be honest. I'm not a picky eater at all. We got the bean dip and empanadas. The bean dip was served cold, I understand if it comes that way but if the customer is expressing they dislike it atleast offer to replace it with something else or some type of solution/care. The bartender was like well that's just how it comes. The empanadas were interesting. Cheesy cauliflower, but came with a sweet and sour type sauce. Didn't pair well. Tasted like frozen food. The tortilla chips I swear are from the Trader Joe's next door. I was a server and bartender for 5 years. The service was mid, and the food trash. Better off going the other Mexican restaurant in La Cosecha that serves excellent food, great cocktails and friendly service. I honestly didn't want to even pay for the food we didn't finish but could tell the bartender didn't give a fuck. So we just paid and left. I've given Serenata 3 chances. Came here to grab a few drinks. A few drinks turned into a flight of well-made cocktails. Apparently they are offering flights every month highlighting a different Latin country. This month was Puerto Rico. I had three drinks which consists of ingredients and flavors representing Puerto Rico and each tasted amazing. My favorite was the Coquito; they put their own spin on it creating a sort of Tres Leches Egg Nog type of creation. I thought it was truly unique and most importantly, it tasted good. Not only were they highlighting different Latin countries each month, they offered a passport program where you prepay and get a free flight or drink each month (they stamp you once you use it) and you also get other perks which are totally worth it if you're an avid drinker. Is it just me or when you see the décor and set up of a place don't you automatically get vibes of what your experience will be like? Sexy, classy, excellent customer service especially based off the prices. Well Serenata definitely DID disappoint. I met a group at the bar for a friend's birthday on a Friday evening. I arrived around 530 and about 4 others were there prior to me. It wasn't busy yet. We all had seats at the bar. It took about 10 minutes before someone came to greet me and provide water. I was made aware that there were no happy hour specials and they only had 3 small plate items to order for food. I decided on a drink and the corn empanadas based off of the bartender's recommendation. Fast forward 40 minutes later and still no food. So I inquired with a different bartender. He replied "I got you" and went back to the system to re-enter my order I assume. There were a couple of things that bothered me about my experience. First, there were other individuals who arrived after me, ordered after me (same food item) and closed their tab and still I did not receive my food. After another 20 minutes (a total of 1 hour waiting) I asked once again about my food. The second bartender whispered to the original bartender who took my order. At that point I was beyond annoyed and hungry. I just told them to cancel my food order and provide me my tab for the 1 drink I ordered. When the original bartender brought me my check, he apologized. I stated matter of factly, you haven't even checked on me for the last hour. He had nothing to say. I still stuck around to celebrate my friends birthday and continued to observe. Come to find out Geoffrey (first and worst bartender) was the bar manager. Not only did he never resurface to check on me but also decided he would navigate the bar without a mask. Gregory the second bartender tried his best to rectify the screw ups of Geoffrey but had a hard time. Gregory did provide me with a comped empanada plate in the end that I took to go. I did observe Gregory repeatedly notifying Geoffrey of new customers and reminding him to provide them with menus and water. Laurel was another bartender working that evening. I literally did not have not one interaction with her but can tell you that she literally worked her butt off the entire time and her customers were never unhappy! The kicker for me was at the end of the night when we started leaving and closing out tabs, we learned that the bar manager had put everyone on one single tab and then was scrambling to try and get it rectified. Multiple people in the group bought the birthday girl a drink or two. Well good ole Geoffrey hit her with 3 different tabs at the end of the night totally over $100 once everyone else had left to cover whatever wasn't properly taken care of. Pros: Both indoor and outdoor is vibe! Great for date nights. Great looking and tasting craft cocktails. Cons: Extremely poor customer service, extremely limited food menu with no option to get outside food and stay at the bar to eat. I would go again for a date night but I would definitely request Laurel or Gregory. I advise management to revisit customer service etiquette for an establishment trying to uphold a chic ambience. read more

Decided to check this place out after seeing a tik tok video about it! I made a reservation prior and had no idea it was located in La Cosecha so we were running late past the 15 minute grace period, however they still accommodated us. So FYI, serenata is located in the food hall of La Cosecha which has different restaurants and bars present. Parking is located at a garage behind the food hall called union market parking... which is free for 2 hours. The garage was located near an apartment building and was very tricky trying to get out of but if using the stairs, it should be fine. The drinks we got were pretty good, definitely try the Daniella and the best margarita 2.0. The other drinks were really strong and pretty bitter. So i would definitely stick with those 2 drinks and they are very pretty drinks and good for pictures! The bbq chicken empanadas we ordered were not good to me, my bf actually enjoyed them! But i only was able to eat half, i think it's because of the texture of the food. The chicken was giving me tuna vibes. However, overall Serenata had a nice vibe and ambiance. I wouldn't mind going her by myself or for a date night but not really good for big groups (more than 4 people) as it's just a bar with about 16 or so seats. The bartender was great and the staff was very friendly! Will definitely return. But eat first because the food menu is pretty limited with 5-6 items. Let me start this review by saying the staff was great! They clearly have a set of rules they have to follow and they do their best to follow them. They were attentive and accommodating. My issues came with the prices! I asked for their cigar city IPA (priced at $9 on their menu) and they said they were out but they had Tecate, which is a well known basic beer on the level of Budweiser or Corona. So I said, cool I'll take that. I'm not against drinking bargain beers. Turns out that they are charging $10 per beer for something I can buy a 12 pack for at the local grocery store for the same price. I know to expect a markup at such an establishment and the cocktail prices made sense for DC but I had to write a review about these ridiculous beer prices. DON'T ORDER TECATE! read more

I have tried this place twice, and will not be back a third time. My first visit, a few months ago, I sat down at the bar with a friend. Within 30 seconds of us sitting down, a bartender ran over from the other end of the bar and demanded to see our IDs. I actually did not have mine with me (I should have had it but keep in mind I'm over 40), and the bartender loudly told us we had to go. The interaction was very rude. A couple months later, I was eating with my family in the "food court" area. I was surprised to see an option for ordering drinks from Seranata through the phone app, wondering why the bartender didn't mention last time that we could have sat outside of the bar as an option. Also, there were non alcoholic drinks on the menu, so if the issue was my lack of ID, those could have been offered as well. Even though I was still annoyed with my last encounter here, my husband and I ordered cocktails, since we heard they were good. We spent over $30 on two drinks, both of which tasted mostly like mixers, and which were served in plastic disposable cups giving the drinks a plastic-y taste. Mine was supposed to have mezcal in it, which I could barely detect. You get to try a few places in the vicinity without leaving the building. I think that's perfect for date night on the cold weather months. Anyways, I had the Daniella cocktail and the empanadas. My friend had a beer and the croquetas. We exchanged a bite of each other's food and I loved the sauce from the croquetas with my empanada. My cocktail was gorgeous and tasted amazing! The service was pretty good. No one was overbearing and everyone was friendly. Water glasses stayed refilled all evening.
