Being right in Dupont Circle makes it perfect whether you're planning a night out or just looking for a quality sit-down after being in the area. The outdoor patio was easily one of my favorite parts, comfortable, serene, and ideal for actually enjoying a conversation without feeling rushed or crowded. The drinks were done right. You can tell there's intention behind them. Everything felt well-balanced, properly made, and consistent with the overall polished atmosphere. It's the kind of place where you don't second guess your order. The experience felt elegant but still relaxed. Nothing felt forced, just a well-executed restaurant that knows exactly what it's doing. Doyle is such a cool upscale bar and restaurant at DuPont circle, super close to the metro. We stopped by to enjoy the beautiful floral ambiance outside but the inside is just as impressive. It was also quite empty on a weekday evening after work so you might not need a reservation if you're stopping by at that time. Note that they don't have a happy hour menu. I got the dancing queen cocktail, which was so so delicious and refreshing. Then we ordered a charcuterie plate which was enough to share for 2, maybe 3 with 1 or 2 other appetizers. What a cool bar with midcentury vibes and an Irish twist! Enjoyed our break in this very cool spot on Sunday afternoon. Loved the tasty bar snacks, but most surprising was an incredible twist on an Irish Coffee called the Senor Sheridan. If you bottled the chocolate maltiness of an Irish Car bomb but made it coffee... you have this amazing concoction! Service here was prompt and everyone had a smile on their face. Service was excellent; we received water quickly, with our orders taken shortly thereafter. I had three Madras cocktails, all of which were delicious--strong, flavorful, well-balanced, and refreshing. The server provided our table with a complementary trio of bar snacks, which were not safe for me to consume, unfortunately (wasabi peas and a duo of nuts). They acted like serving us was an inconvenience. We made a reservation (you need one to get in) and they still made us wait. Our server was very slow and didn't provide any recommendations for drink or dinner. We ordered a charcuterie board, it was delivered to the wrong table 2x. The server spilled my drink all over my purse, sweater and dinner. Never brought me another drink. Our server also didn't have manners. He was not polite and would hand us our food/drinks instead of placing them on the table. He never removed empty plates. The tables were very small and everything we ordered was crammed. The struggle to find a bar open on a Monday in DC is real. So we ended up at Doyle last minute to celebrate my friend's birthday. So last minute we literally made reservations as we were driving to DC. The outside is decorated so beautifully with florals and a mural. Unfortunately, the patio was closed, and it was rather muggy that day anyways so we got a table inside. We got seated at a small table, but the birthday girl wanted the sofa/couch booth area. Our waiter, Betty, was the sweetest and let her choose whichever table she wanted. (Honestly this review might just be about our waiter because the service she provided us, was over the top) We sat down and took a while to order our drinks! They gave us complimentary nuts and almonds; definitely was not expected. I don't remember the name of our drinks, but they were pretty delicious. Since our waiter knew it was my friend's birthday, she brought out a complimentary crème brûlée. I didn't request it or anything. The sweet sweet lady decided to give us the dessert on her own. Then he made very aggressive declaration that people needed to pool in pods of 8 so there would only be 5 checks. We didn't even all know each other so most simply did not order a drink. First of all, I'd like to thank Jordan for his warm hospitality. He was kind, friendly, and helpful. I love the DuPont Circle Hotel, so having the Doyle right downstairs is a real treat. I enjoyed eating at the bar solo and chatting with some of the others around me who were also enjoying themselves. The entire venue is bustling and full of life which makes you feel like you are somewhere cool. I had a Hendricks Martini craftily made by Jordan. He offered me an array of bar snacks and I happily accepted. After a few sips, feeling the stress of train travel melt away, I ordered the crispy tuna rice. I had an extremely disappointing experience at the Doyle Hotel. I was splashed with sticky syrup at the bar, soaking my clothes, hair, and body. Instead of offering a sincere apology or showing any real concern, the manager coldly dismissed it, saying, "most people don't complain about these things." He also asked how I'd like to handle the situation as if I was the one responsible for finding a solution. He then suggested I take my clothes to the dry cleaner... as if I could just take off my pants and go to my event half-dressed. That response completely missed the bigger issue: I still had to go about my evening with stained clothes and sticky hair. The lack of tact especially after we made it clear we were just stopping in for a quick pre-drink before heading to an event was unacceptable. Accidents happen, and of course I know the bartender didn't spill anything intentionally. In fact, he was the only one who showed any genuine concern. But the manager's cold tone, his complete inability to manage the situation, and his lack of a sincere apology especially coming from a reputable bar with prices that imply a higher standard of service made the whole experience unpleasant. It felt as if he assumed we were looking for a discount, when the reality is that we were simply expecting basic hospitality. I would've happily paid the full bill and tipped well had someone simply acknowledged the inconvenience and taken ownership. Instead, I was offered an insulting 10% off and no real resolution. You expect better from places like this that market themselves as reputable service-oriented. Sadly, that standard was nowhere to be found here. read more

Excellent cocktails in the district in the once up and coming DuPont Circle. Located inside the DuPont Circle Hotel is Doyle's the name of the chain that owns the hotel and the former name of the actual hotel. Doyle's offers indoor and outdoor seating, both with views of DuPont Circle which for happy hour offers a great venue for people watching. I love my Grey Goose Martini, shaken and with three olives! I have come here during the day and once recently at 945. I was told the kitchen was closed, but after some cajoling I was accommodated and allowed to order their pork belly dim sum and charcuterie meat board, both delicious and worth coming for again and again. The bar has a wide arrange of top shelf liquors. And if your nice you can ask for a shot of Pappy Van Winkle--the unicorn of bourbons--which is kept downstairs. read more

How long has this place been here? No idea, but I wasn't aware until recently when my friend suggested it and of course I had to look it up on Yelp. I believe it was previously called Bar Dupont. Around 6:00 p.m. on a Thursday evening it wasn't super crowded but started to fill up fairly quickly. We sat in the bar area with great views of outside - perfect for people watching. I would describe the ambience as upscale casual! This is certainly not a cheap date spot but if you want to impress somebody, this is a good choice. They had some happy hour specials. The cocktails were good and the truffle fries, amazing. Service was great overall. People seem to come here alone, in groups, for meetings, and dates. Located inside the Dupont circle hotel, so you already know parking in this area isn't the easiest. I would suggest metro or uber/lyft. read more

I used to come to the Doyle often for their happy hour (incredible truffle fries and oysters!), and the service has always been warm and accommodating. My most recent visit was just a few days ago, when I stopped in for a nightcap: since it was a Sunday night and I didn't feel like having alcohol, I asked the waitress whether the bar did mocktails. She asked me whether I had a specific one in mind (I didn't), and then assured me that the bartenders could tailor one to my taste. She was right: the bartender whipped up a mocktail that was so delicious -- and so beautiful! -- that I had to go up and ask what was in it (it was some combination of cucumber water, lime, and ginger beer). And all for $7! I'll definitely be back for more mocktails (and probably cocktails) soon, and would definitely recommend for anyone who's looking for a really delicious, thoughtfully-made, non-alcoholic drink. read more
