So this place is outstanding. So this bar is based on a woman Lucy Mercer she happens to be the mistress of the late president FDR. It's heavy on the price for sure but that burger I ate was tasty. I would go back if asked. The waiter was so pleasant also I very tall guy I wish I remembered his name we got a small flute on champagne because we were sending off a friend of ours. It was outstanding.

The Lucy Mercer Bar is located upstairs within Minetta Tavern which opened very recently in the Union Market area. I'm always looking for a new speakeasy/cocktail bar, so I was excited to try this out. Please note, there is a no phone policy meaning no pictures. I came during a Sunday evening when it first opened a little after 5pm. Reservations are recommended. It is beautifully decorated making you feel like you've been transported to the prohibition era. Since I was coming after brunch, I wasn't too particularly hungry so my friend and I ended up ordering the bread basket and I also had the Ninjinsky--a rye based cocktail that was absolutely delicious and perfectly crafted. Overall I loved the ambience and all the vibes. Glad to have a new spot to grab delicious cocktails.

Located on top of the Minetta Tavern this "secret" speakeasy is probably the coolest place I've been too. It's such an unexpected place and before you come they create such confusion, you have no idea what you're getting yourself into! On their voicemail we heard a man trying to pick up women and then a woman saying if you're husband is here to give her a call to confirm haha. There are no photos allowed in the place only leading up and the staff are so helpful getting you to your table and taking photos before you enter. I will confirm the volume of the music is loud but the environment gives elevated and sexy. We ordered a virgin margarita, some beautiful cocktails, the gourgeres, the fromage platter and bread basket. I would skip the gourgeres it was so hollow and felt like I was eating plastic. The fromage platter was absolutely amazing and the bread basket was more a small tea plate of bread but was fresh. Portions for the $$$ kind of feels like they're stealing from you so I will not be back for the food. However, I will be back for the ambiance and a mocktail! This place really is giving Washington DC Speakeasy and I love it!

Incredible ambiance and vibes! Make sure to get a reservation on the couches by the fire. The cocktails were delicious.

Not to be confused with Free State Distillery in Upper Marlboro (though many also call it Arthur…read moreWheeler Spirits haha), this place is located just off of the main street in chinatown, and it's surprisingly lowkey. It's a basement bar with a bit of a dive vibe, but it's hard to ignore the nautical, blue crab theme throughout. Turns out that one of the owners is a Marylander, which is cool to see reflected in the decor in a place in dc, even though it is next door. They have a happy hour and they have a great variety of drinks in general. It's bring-your-own-food (BYOF) and there are a bunch of delicious looking Asian spots nearby, including upstairs. It didn't start getting crowded until closer to 10, which, as I said, is surprising for this part of town to me. Everywhere in Chinatown is not going to be packed and busy, and this place is here to remind you of that. Stop by if you're looking for a more chill vibe. Staff are pretty cool.

I had a delicious orange crush drink and my friend had a sangria. The bartenders are extremely chill and nice; they only come up when you need it which is nice for good conversation. Cocktails have become trendy and mostly a lazy combination of a spirit, simple syrup and a fancy-sounding ingredient. Not here. Each combination is crafted and tastes delicious. One sign of a good cocktail to me is that it has balanced flavors that somehow combine well together to create complexity that works. It did here. Our bartender was knowledgeable and guided me well after I shared my preferred spirit and flavor profile. The martini I had was off-menu and well prepared. Nostalgia for days of yore when only a handful of places in NYC were known for "cocktails" - not every happy hour menu in town. We did get the happy hour pricing ($12/drink) and yes, 20% gratuity was included. The service was stellar so I would've done that anyways and had no problem with it being mandatory. I will add - someone complained about the incense smells and when I first walked in, it did smell odd. Over time, I saw our bartender switch it out and the second fragrance was more inviting.

The host thought that I was the talent, initially. I wanted to say not at all or you'd have an EMPTY house as soon as I cracked my first note. Haha. I sat down at the bar and then realized that this was a totally unrelated event but I figured this is where I was supposed to be and stayed to listen to some live music and enjoy the vibes! My bar tender was super friendly and amazing! It was fun chatting it up with him and he even shared some treats from his childhood with a couple of us left at the bar! Super kind for that! I ordered some food and a drink while listening to the ultra talented Ms Valentina Maria!! This was such a great experience and I can't wait to return again for more live music!

I'm not a bar person, so when I hear "bar" I (probably unwarrantedly) think dark; obnoxiously loud; sticky floors etc. so this visit was just up my alley as it was none of that: Bi-level seating, super clean, loud but not obnoxiously so, with great staff. Since I wasn't indulging in alcohol, the bartender made me a "ginger shot" that I could go back for every night. So so delicious and refreshing! A nice spot to hang for a meet-up or to enjoy a cold one or several.
